GEORGE FORTENBERRY MEADOWS

George Fortenberry Meadows, 78, of 1106 Parkwood Drive, Siler City died Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Universal Health Care of Ramseur. Mr. Meadows was born February 22, 1932 in Gaffney, SC.

George retired from Delta Airlines after 30 years of service and had worked at NC Travel Agency for several years. He was a member of the First Baptist Church and the Rachel Allred Sunday school class. Mr. Meadows was an avid reader, enjoyed watching football, traveling and going to the beach. George was a veteran of the Korean War where he served as a Staff Sergeant in the US Air Force. He was preceded in death by his parents, Dudley and Zelia Fortenberry Meadows and his brother, James W. Meadows of Gaffney, SC.

He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Patricia (Ramsey) Meadows; one son, George (Chip) F. Meadows, Jr., and wife, Anna of San Antonio, TX; one daughter, Deborah M. Northington and husband, Stephen of Little Rock, AR; grandchildren, Mathew I. Meadows, Weston S. and Kristina A. Northington.

The family received friends Monday, May 24, 2010, 30 minutes prior to the funeral service at the First Baptist Church, 314 N. Second Avenue., Siler City. The funeral was Monday, May 24, 2010 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Tony Capehart and Rev. Jim Wall officiating. Burial was in Chatham Memorial Park, Siler City.

Memorials may be made to First Baptist Church, 314 N. Second Avenue, Siler City, NC 27344; or to Relay for Life, c/o Betty Terry, 519 South Second Avenue, Siler City, NC 27344.

FRANK JAMES FRAZIER

Mr. Frank James Frazier, 57, of Staley passed away Wednesday, May 19, 2010 at Moore Regional Hospital.

A memorial service will be held at 12 p.m. Saturday, May 22, 2010 at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel of Liberty with Rev. Neil Kight officiating. The family will receive friends from 11–12, one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Mr. Frazier was preceded in death by his parents James Frazier, Mary Hayes Frazier and one brother, Larry Frazier.

He is survived by his wife, Tammy M. Frazier; two daughters, Jenna Marie Frazier of the home, Crystal Joyce and husband Tommy of Asheboro; two sons, Christopher Frazier and wife Ashleigh of Wilmington, Travis Frazier of Staley; one sister, Carol Hogan and husband Mitchal of Asheboro; brothers, Calvin Frazier and wife Carolyn of Pinehurst, Jeff Frazier and wife Connie of Staley; two grandchildren, Matty Frazier and Ashley Joyce.

In lieu of flowers, the family request that memorial contributions to be made to Cancer Research c/o Hospice of Chatham County, 401 E. Third Street, Siler City, NC 27344.

Loflin Funeral Home of Liberty has the honor of serving the Frazier Family.

CATHERINE ELIZABETH GLOVER

Ms. Catherine Elizabeth Glover, 97, of West End, died Sunday (05-09-2010) at her residence.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday (05-15-2010) at Spaulding Chapel AME Zion Church with Rev. Oscar Rush officiating.

Ms. Glover was born to the late James and Ella Cagle Glover, September 5, 1912 in Chatham County. She was education in the Moore County School System. She was preceded in death by her parents, sisters and brothers.

JERRY ARTIS SNIPES

Jerry Artis Snipes, 60, of Siler City died Wednesday (04-28-2010) at Alamance Hospice Home in Burlington.

Funeral services were held Sunday (05-02-2010) at 2 p.m. at Knotts Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. David H. Thomas, Sr. officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery.

Mr. Snipes was educated in Chatham County Schools and worked for Dave Thomas farming.

No immediate family survivors.

TERRY MASON

Regional Terry Mason, 55, of Siler City died Sunday (05-09-2010) at UNC Hospitals.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday (05-12-2010) at Lambert Chapel Baptist Church, with Rev. William Harrington officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Mason attended Jordan-Matthews High School.

Survivors include his mother, Peggy Woods; children, Regional Matthews of Sanford, Lamont Farrish, Chylynn Farrish, both of Gibsonville

Gibsonville; brother, Ricky Woods of Goldston; sisters, Linda Johnson of Raleigh, Jackie Woods of Siler City; and three grandchildren.

ELIZABETH WOODY CLEGG

Elizabeth Woody Clegg, 88, formerly of Pittsboro, died Sunday (05-16-2010) at her son’s home in High Point.

The service to celebrate Mrs. Clegg’s life were held at 3 p.m. Wednesday, (05-19-2010) at Chatham United Methodist Church with Rev. Lee Edwards and Rev. Patrick Sinclair presiding.Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Born in Moore County on March 11, 1922, Mrs. Clegg was the daughter of Thomas C. Woody and Eva Lillian Reynolds Woody. She was a homemaker and a member of Chatham United Methodist Church.

Survivors include sons, Tommy Clegg of Pittsboro, HB Clegg of High Point; sister, Dorothy Jean Markley; three granddaughters; and three great-grandchildren.

Memorials may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association of NC, 1305 Navajo Drive, Suite 101, Raleigh, NC 27609.

ROBERT “BOB” MASON

Robert “Bob” Mason, 64, of Siler City died Saturday (05-08-2010) at his residence.

Funeral services were held Wednesday (05-12-2010) at Lambert Chapel Baptist Church with Rev. William Harrington officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Mason was employed with Marsh Auto Parts of Siler City.

Survivors include his wife, Laurie Faye Mason; children, Robin Mason, Barbara Brown, Angela Dark, Robert Lee Mason, Jr.; step-children, LaToyna Brim, Nathaniel Brim; sisters, Cora Alston, Shirley Brown, Shelia Bland; brothers, Clyde Mason, Henry Mason, Lindell Mason; eleven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

ROBERT LEE ATKINS

Robert Lee Atkins, 68, of Siler City died Monday, (05-17-2010) at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

The funeral will be Thursday, (05-20-2010) at 4 p.m. at Siler City Church Of God with Rev. Neal Kight officiating. Burial will follow in Loves Creek Baptist Cemetery.

Mr. Atkins was born February 11, 1942, the son of Mary Hash Atkins. He was born in Pulaski, Virginia and attended Siler City Church of God.

Survivors include his mother, Mary Atkins Hash of the home, and a brother, Paul Atkins of Siler City.

The family will receive friends Thursday, (05-20-2010) from 3-4 p.m. at Siler City Church of God.

DAVID WILLIS WRENN

David Willis Wrenn, 57, of 36 Pine Court Drive, Siler City died Wednesday, May 12, 2010 at his residence.
Mr. Wrenn was born April 28, 1953, the son of C. Willis and Sara (Bruton) Wrenn. He was a native of Chatham County, a 1971 graduate of Jordan-Matthews, attended Appalachian University and graduated from UNC-G. After attending other schools, he earned his CPA. David was vice-president of Wrenn Brothers, Inc. He was very health conscious and had many interests and hobbies including, running, fishing, cooking, especially trout fishing and camping. David was a New York Yankee, Red Skin and Wake Forest fan. He had traveled across the USA and in Europe. He attended Faith Baptist Church, was a Sunday School teacher and very devoted to daily reading and prayer. David was a good Dad, a good listener and always told good stories.
He is survived by his wife, Mary Pat (Robinson) Wrenn of the home; two daughters, Ashley W. Moger and husband, Matthew of Kernersville, Sara W. Skeen and husband, Charles of Asheboro, one son,

Daniel W. Wrenn of the home; parents, C. Willis and Sara Bruton Wrenn; two brothers, Neil A. Wrenn of Siler City, Robert C. Wrenn of Bear Creek; numerous aunts, uncles and cousins.

The family received friends Friday, May 14, 2010 from 6:30-9 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 314 N. 2nd Ave., Siler City. The funeral was held Saturday, May 15, 2010 at 11 a.m. at First Baptist Church with Rev. Clyde Denny and Rev. Gary Moger officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery, Siler City.

Memorials may be directed to Faith Christian School, 5449 Brookhaven Road, Ramseur, NC 27316.

ERIC R. STARKEY
SEPTEMBER 19, 1969 - APRIL 30, 2010

Please join us for a gathering of friends and family to share our memories of Eric Starkey on Sunday, May 23, from 2 p.m. until 5 p.m. at the Pittsboro Senior Center. The center is located at 365 Hwy 87, North.

This occasion is a celebration of Eric’s forty years of life. We will share a meal, listen to music by the Tommy Edwards Trio, and also play some of Eric’s favorite recorded music. Please feel free to bring a side dish to go with the ham and turkey.

Eric is survived by his wife, Theresa; sons, Kyle (14), Brandon (11); father, Dan Starkey of Pittsboro; sisters, Sheila Codd of Concord, Vickie Starkey of Hampton, VA; and his mother, Huguette Starkey of Hampton.

NELL GRAY EMERSON HUMPHRIES MORGAN

Chapel Hill - Nell Gray Emerson Humphries Morgan died Monday, May 17, 2010 at her residence. Nell Gray Emerson Humphries Morgan was born October 11, 1912 to Grey Braxton and Stella Norwood Emerson

Emerson of Bear Creek. She graduated from Bonlee High School (class of 1931). She married Cecil Ray Humphries in 1935 and had a daughter, Rachel Delores Humphries Stevens. They lived in Dublin, Virginia until the time of Cecil's death in 1950, after which, she and her daughter moved to Bear Creek to live with her parents. In 1963, Nell married Carlos Vernon Morgan, who had two daughters, Connie Morgan Conway and the late, Frieda M. Lindley. The couple lived in Siler City and opened the Curiosity Shop, an antique business. Mr. Morgan died in 1976. After retirement, Nell moved to northern Chatham County just below Chapel Hill and lived with her daughter.

Nell was a life-long member of Sandy Branch Baptist Church, active in establishing the training union as part of the church's program. For more than 20 years, she served as Sandy Branch Training Union Director and Sandy Creek Association Training Union Director. She loved her family, traveling, antique collecting and bird watching.

She is survived by Rachel H. Stevens, daughter; Connie M. Conway, step-daughter; her sons-in-law, Charles H. Stevens, Mark Darryle Lindley, and Norman Albert Michael Conway. She is survived by seven grandchildren, Douglas Ray Stevens, Nelson Charles Stevens, Linda Stevens Williamson, Julius Neill Lindley, Martin Anthony Lindley, Darryle E. H. Conway, and Craig Michael Conway. She is also survived by ten great-grandchildren, Leslie Dale Stevens, Noelle Delaney Stevens, Colin Henry Stevens, Samuel Gray Williamson, Julius Neill Lindley II, Morgan Blane Lindley, Alison Blair Lindley, Abigail Morgan Conway, Hannah Marie Conway and Tyler Michael Griffin Conway. She is also survived by her brother-in-law, Thomas I. Humphries.

Memorials may be made to either of the following: Don Moody Fund, Sandy Branch Baptist Church, 715 Sandy Branch Church Road, Bear Creek, NC 27207-9327; or the Rachel H. Stevens Scholarship Fund for Public Health Leadership, University of North Carolina, Gillings School of Public Health, 170 Rosenau Hall, CB # 7400, Chapel Hill, NC 27599-7400.

The family received friends Wednesday, May 19, 2010 from 7-9 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral will be Thursday, May 20, 2010 at 2 p.m. at Sandy Branch Baptist Church, 715 Sandy Branch Church Road, Bear Creek with Rev. Jim Wall and the Rev. Mindy Douglas-Adams officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

JERRY BREWER

Jerry Brewer, 49, of Siler City died Monday (05-03-2010) at his residence.

Arrangements are incomplete at Farrar Funeral Home.

FRANCES S. BOWDEN

Frances S. Bowden, 83, of Staley died Monday, (05-03-2010) at her home.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Thursday, (05-06-2010) AT Olivers Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church with Rev. Thedelmon Cromartie, Rev. Gene Horton officiating.

Mrs. Bowden was a native of Randolph County, a former employee of RamTex, and a member of Olivers Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church.

Survivors include her husband, Marvin Bowden; daughters, Dot Marley of Ramseur, Judy Bowden of Staley; sisters, Roberta Nettles of Staley, Gracie Garner of Liberty, Rosa Harris of Asheboro; and one great-granddaughter.
