ALCANA PAIGE

Alcana Paige, 81, died Monday (03-22-2010) at Triad Care and Rehabilitation Center in High Point.

A memorial service is planned at a later time.

Mr. Paige was born and raised in Siler City. He retired from Boling Chair with more than 40 years of service, and was a member of Lambert Chapel Missionary Baptist Church.

Survivors include siblings, Shirley, Chris, Grapel, and Henry, all of Siler City.

BOBBY CROCKER

Bobby Newton Crocker, 65, of Siler City died Saturday, (03-27-2010) at Chatham Hospital, Inc.

The funeral was held Wednesday, (03-31-2010) at 11 a.m. at St. Julia Catholic Parish where a Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated by Father Pedro De Oliveira.

Mr. Crocker was born February 26, 1945, the son of Oliver Newton and Sally Ann Wade Crocker. He was a native of Vance County, a route supervisor for Perfection Equipment Company and previously worked for Liles Plumbing. He was a member of St. Julia Catholic Parrish and a Navy veteran, serving on the USS Essex Carrier during the Cuban Missile Crisis. An active member of the Siler City Moose Lodge, he had also served as its Governor. He was preceded in death by his parents.

He is survived by his wife, Marie DiDonato Crocker; daughter, Sally C. Murchison of Siler City; one son, Peter Crocker of Siler City; one sister, Sylvia C. Knight of Prattville, AL; and five grandchildren.

The family received friends Wednesday, (03-31-2010) from 10-11 a.m. at St. Julia Catholic Parish.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St. Julia Catholic Church, 210 Harold Hart Road, Siler City, NC or to a charity of donor's choice.

LINDA FAYE WRIGHT MONTOYA

Mrs. Linda Faye Wright Montoya, 69, of Pittsboro, died Friday (03-26-2010) at her home.

Services were held at 3 p.m. Tuesday (03-30-2010) at Hall-Wynne funeral service, with Pastor Ray Gooch officiating.

A native of Lee County, Mrs. Montoya was born August 12, 1940 to Premon and Thelma Rowell Wright. She grew up in the Bear Creek area. Upon relocating back to Chatham County, she worked at the UNC at Chapel Hill Medical School until her retirement.

Survivors include her husband, John Manuel Montoya; daughter, Sandy Cutler of Moncure; sons, Van Montoya of Mesa, AZ, Jerry Montoya of Pittsboro, David Montoya of Morrisville; mother, Thelma Wright Ferrell of Sanford; sisters, Frances Pryce of Pittsbor, Jeanette Scott of Sanford; and five grandchildren. Mrs. Montoya was preceded in death by her father, and brother, Carl Ray Wright.

Memorial contributions may be directed to either Community Home Care & Hospice, 1414 East Eleventh Street, Siler City, NC 27344, or to the Chatham County Senior Center, 365 NC 87 North, Pittsboro, NC 27312.

KATHLEEN CLARK YORK

Kathleen Clark York, 90, of Ramseur, died Sunday, (03-28-2010) at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Wednesday (03-31-2010) at Holly Spring Friends Meeting, with Rev. Todd Brown, Rev. Ricky Sessoms, and Rev. Leslie Winslow officiating. Burial followed at Parks Crossroads Christian Church.

A Chatham County native, Mrs. York was retired from Kellwood Company and she was a member of Holly Spring Friends Meeting.

Survivors include sons, Elvin E. York, Jr., Wayne C. York, both of Ramseur; sisters, Josephine Hinshaw, Frances Allen, both of Burlington; brothers, Clyde Clark, Frank Clark, both of Siler City, Ralph Clark, of Alamance; three grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to, Holly Spring Friends Meeting Land Fund, 2938 Holly Spring Road, Ramseur, NC 27316.

ALYSSA DAWN BARTH

Alyssa Dawn Barth, infant daughter of Shane and Brooke Green Barth of Siler City, died Friday, (03-26-2010) at Randolph Hospital, Asheboro.

A graveside service was held Tuesday, (03-30-2010) at 10 a.m. at Het Landhuis Cemetery, 1898 Henderson-Tanyard Road, Pittsboro with David Knittle officiating.

She is survived by a half sister, Hannah Barth; paternal grandmother, Vickie Jordan Barth of Siler City; paternal great-grandfather, Robert Jordan of Siler City; paternal great-grandparents, Virginia and Vernon Barth of Siler City; maternal grandparents, Cassius and Debbie Green of Siler City; maternal great- grandparents, Doris and David Knittle of Snow Camp; maternal great-grandmother, Phyllis Stout of Asheboro.

ILA DEE BYRD PARKER BASS

Ila Dee Byrd Parker Bass, 90, of Sanford died Friday (03-27-2010) at Sanford Health and Rehabilitation in Sanford.

Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday (03-28-2010) at Moncure Baptist Church with Dr. Matt Garrett officiating. Burial followed in Lee Memory Gardens.

Mrs. Bass was born in Moore County, December 31, 1919, the daughter of the late John E and Cora Lane Stevens Byrd.

Survivors include sons, Michael Thomas Parker of Moncure, Bruce Carlton Parker of Hillsville, VA, Douglas Bass of Georgia; many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

GENEVA VELMA PRIMM

Geneva Velma Primm, 58, of Siler City died Thursday, (03-25-2010) at her residence.

A memorial service will be held Thursday, (04-01-2010) at 2 p.m. at Joy Baptist Church, with Rev. Rodney Staley officiating.

Mrs. Primm was born February 25, 1952, the daughter of James Otey and Loretta E. Hunt Primm. She was born in Durham, and retired as a nurse for the Veterans Hospital. She served in the U S Army.

She is survived by her mother, Loretta E. Hunt Primm; and a sister, Mischelle P. Blinsmon of Siler City.

ARLENE ANDREW GILLILAND

Mrs. Arlene Andrew Gilliland, 82, of Bennett died Monday, (03-29-2010) at her home.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m. Thursday, (04-01-2010) at Pleasant Grove Christian Church with Rev. Mark Strickland and Rev. Tim Strider officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Gilliland was a Chatham county native, a homemaker, a member of Pleasant Grove Christian Church, and an active member of Tri-County Ruritan Club.

Survivors include her husband, Russell E. Gilliland of the home; daughter, Lela M. Gilliland of Asheboro; son, John Monroe Gilliland of Bennett; step-son, Ethan Gilliland of Bennett; step-daughter, Jollene Frye of Mary Ester, Fla.; brothers, Glenn Andrew of Sanford, Donald Andrew of Bear Creek; six grandchildren and 14 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held from 6-8 p.m.. Wednesday (03-31-2010) at Joyce-Brady Chapel in Bennett.

“JIM” GRIFFIN

James LaFate “Jim” Griffin, J.D., 57, of Chapel Hill (North Chatham County), died Sunday (03-28-2010) at his home.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Saturday (04-03-2010), at Evergreen United Methodist Church with Pastor Jeff Nash presiding. Interment will follow in Chapel Hill Cemetery on Legion Road.

Born April 4, 1952 in Newport News, Virginia, Mr. Griffin was an attorney. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys Bray Griffin and Drewery M. Griffin.

Survivors include his wife, Dorothy Cilenti; sons, Jeremy, Ian, Lucas; daughter, Olivia; sister, Pat Marsee of Norfolk, Virginia; and two grandsons. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gladys Bray Griffin and Drewery M. Griffin.

Arrangements are under the care of Hall-Wynne funeral service of Pittsboro.

HAROLD T. SEAGROVES, SR.

Mr. Harold Thurman Seagroves, Sr., 85, of Old Graham Road, Pittsboro, died March 23, 2010 at his home following an illness of three weeks.

Born July 29, 1924 in Chatham County, he was the son of James Fredrick Seagroves and Donnah Gertrude Dorsett. Harold was a 1942 graduate of Pittsboro High School. In 1943 he volunteered for the US Navy and was sent to Bainbridge Training Base to electrical school. He was later stationed in Florida and where he was put on an LST where he stayed the rest of his naval career. He was promoted to 2nd class electrician, and was involved in several landings in the Pacific.

In 1945, Harold began working as an apprentice at Miller Funeral Home in Sanford. It was during that year and one half that he met his future wife, Yvonne Phillips whom he married in 1948. Harold went to mortuary school at American Academy in New York, graduating in 1949. Following graduation he came back to Pittsboro, and began working with James and William Griffin at Griffin Funeral Home, where he stayed for 9 years. Following a short time of employment with Chatham County, Harold went to work at Walker’s Funeral Home in Chapel Hill. He worked there for 31 years, serving as manager for the majority of that time until his retirement in January, 2010. Following his retirement, Harold again joined the staff of Hall-Wynne Funeral Home, Griffin Chapel, in Pittsboro where he was employed part-time until his death.

Survivors include his children and their spouses: son, Harold T. Seagroves, Jr. and Tabitha of Birmingham, AL; daughters, Denise Seagroves and Leigh of Durham, Robin Seagroves Roberson and Allen of Pittsboro; two step-grandchildren whom he adored, Tanisha and Keanu; and a special friend, Brenda Baldwin. He was preceded in death by his wife, Yvonne P. Seagroves, and also by 8 siblings.

The funeral service for Mr. Seagroves was conducted by Pastor Ray Gooch and Pastor Troy Lesher-Thomas at 3 p.m. Thursday from Pittsboro Presbyterian Church. Interment followed in the church cemetery. Friends visited with the family from 6–8 p.m. Wednesday at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home, Griffin Chapel in Pittsboro, and at other times at his home.

Memorial contributions may be directed to Pittsboro Presbyterian Church, PO Box 713, Pittsboro, NC 27312, or to the charity of one’s choice.

Arrangements for Mr. Seagroves are under the care of Hall-Wynne, Griffin Chapel of Pittsboro.

ANNIE CAMPBELL BEAVER

Annie Campbell Beaver, 92, of Bear Creek, beloved mother, grandmother and aunt, died Wednesday, March 24, 2010 at Chatham Hospital.

She was born in Chatham County. She was the oldest living member of Meroney United Methodist Church and was a former Sunday school teacher. Annie had worked as the manager of the senior citizens center in Bear Creek and A. J. Schneierson and Sons. She enjoyed sewing, working in her flower garden and raising her grandchildren. Annie was preceded in death by her husband, J. B. Beaver, Sr. and a son, Danny Beaver.

She is survived by one daughter, Jane B. Fisher of Kernersville, and one son, J. B. "Joey" Beaver, Jr. and wife, Ann of Bear Creek; granddaughter, Cindy Kelly of Bear Creek; great-grandchildren, Michael and Craig Kelly, Kaitlyn Dark and numerous nieces and nephews.
The funeral was held Friday, March 26, 2010 at 4 p.m. at Meroney United Methodist Church, 10568 NC Hwy 902, Bear Creek, with Rev. Jim Whittaker officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery. The family received friends Friday following the service at the church.

In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Meroney United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 604 Dewitt Smith Road, Pittsboro, NC 27312.

LOUISE HENDERSON PATTERSON

Louise Henderson Patterson, 90, formerly of Mint Hill, NC, died March 23, 2010 at Cambridge Hills Assisted Living in Pittsboro. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, James (Pat) Patteson. They were co-owners of Patterson Tax Service in Mint Hill.

She is survived by her daughters, Markie Pringle and husband Jim of Pittsboro, Donna Takase and husband Hiro of Greensboro, Patricia (Robbie) Dailey and husband Jim of Monroe; five grandchildren, Scott Pringle and wife Tracey of Dana Point, CA, Caroline Pringle of Chapel Hill, Leigh Drye Southard and husband Todd of Greensboro, Jill Drye of Greensboro, Adam Dailey and wife Christa of Monroe; three great-grandchildren, Charlie and Mercer Pringle and Tristen Boling.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks for donations to be made to UNC Hospice, P. O. Box 1077, Pittsboro, NC 27312.

There was a graveside service for family and friends at Sunset Memory Gardens, 8901 Lawyers Road, Charlotte, on Friday, March 26, 2010, at 12 noon.
