MICHAEL CURTIS KENNEDY
Mr. Michael Curtis Kennedy, 56, of Liberty, died Saturday, (01-02-2010) at his home.
Memorial services were Saturday, (01-09010) at 11 a.m. at Holly’s Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Mark Ainsworth officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Kennedy was the son of the late Melvin Ray Kennedy. He was also preceded in death by his son, Jody Ray Kennedy and stepfather, Eldon Frazier, Sr.
Surviving is his wife, Bridget Piper Kennedy; daughter, Jada Kennedy Garrett; mother, Margaret Kennedy Frazier; brothers, John Kennedy, Jackie Kennedy, Richard Kennedy; stepsister, Susan Chambers; stepbrother, Lynn Frazier and two grandchildren.
PHYLLIS JEAN SLYCORD RUIZ
Phyllis Jean Slycord Ruiz, 50, of Ramseur, died Tuesday (01-05-2010) at N.C. Memorial Hospital in Chapel Hill.
Memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Saturday, (01-09-2010) at Holly’s Chapel Pentecostal Holiness Church with Rev. Mark Ainsworth officiating.
Mrs. Ruiz was a Moore County native and a retired employee of March Furniture.
Survivors include her husband, Jaime O. Cruz of the home; son, Lucio Chase Cruz of the home; daughter, Kimberly Dale Stevens of Randleman; brother, Phillip Slycord of Ramseur; sister, Cindy Scott of Seagrove; grandmother, Devonia Ritter of Carthage; and one grandchild.
ROBERT L. WELCH, SR.
Robert L. Welch, Sr., 82, of Raleigh, died Sunday, (01-03-2010).
A Mass of Christian burial was held Thursday, (01-07-2010) at 11 a.m. in Saint Raphael Catholic Church.
Mr. Welch was a native of Akron, Ohio, the son of Leo A. and Rose Callahan Welch. He served his country in both the US Navy and Army, and was a graduate of Kent State University and Akron University School of Law. He practiced law, and later joined the Federal Government Navy Finance Center. He was a member of VFW Post #1062 and the American Legion.
Survivors include his wife, Carmel Barreca Welch; son, Robert “Leo” Welch, Jr. of Raleigh; daughter, Claudia Webb; sister, Mary Margaret Shea of Akron, OH; brothers, Don Welch of Cuyahoga Falls, OH; and one grandson.
CLEOPHEUS HEADEN
Mr. Cleopheus Headen, 88, of Pittsboro died Tuesday, (01-05-2010) at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.
Funeral services were held Saturday (01-09-2010) at Union Grove AME Zion Church.
Mr. Headen was born in Chatham County October 24, 1921, the son of the late Willie and Idela Marsh Headen.
Survivors include daughters, Katrina H. Johnson, Rev. Patricia Headen, Brina Raines, Pamela H. Reeves, all of Pittsboro, Carthinia H. Alston of Sanford, Michele H. Mitchell of Fayetteville; at grandchildren, 23 great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren.
JEAN ROSENTHAL MANDEL
Jean Rosenthal Mandel of Fearrington Village, formerly of Tuckahoe, NY, died Tuesday (01-05-2010) at The Arbor at Galloway Ridge. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Mandel.
Following cremation, entombment will be in the mausoleum of Ferncliff Cemetery in Hartsdale, NY.
Mrs. Mandel worked in the advertising industry in New York for many years. She was a creative artist, drawing, working in ceramics, and photography. She was preceded in death by her husband, Howard Mandel.
Surviving are a stepson, Mark Mandel; and three grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to UNICEF, a local children’s hospital, the World Wildlife Fund, or the local Humane Society would are suggested.

JACK H. WHITE
Jack Harding White, 91, of Ramseur, died Thursday, (01-07-2010) at Randolph Hospital in Asheboro.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Tuesday (01-12-2010) at the First Christian Church in Ramseur with Rev. Garry Arnett and Rev. Adrian Pugh officiating. Burial followed in Sunset Knoll Cemetery in Ramseur.
Mr. White was a native of Chatham County, a retired salesman with Keith's Hardware, Ramseur Building Supply, and was a member of the First Christian Church. He was preceded in death by his wife Dixie Craven White.
Survivors include daughters, Jacqueline White Rawlings of Franklinville, Ann White Spencer of Charlottesville, VA; and one granddaughter.

ARCH GILL CLARK
Arch Gill Clark, died Sunday, (01-10-2010) at Rex Hospital.
Services were held at Bells Baptist Church, Apex, Wednesday, (01-13-2010) at 2 p.m..
Mr. Clark was born August 3, 1924, the son of the late Vione and Ernest Clark in Chatham County. He retired from his position as Surplus Manager at UNC in 1991, and was a farmer. He was preceded in death by his brothers Fred Clark, Roy Clark, and sister Louise Lasater.
Survivors include his wife Lois; son, Reuben of Cary; daughters, Sharon Webb of Merritt Island, FL, Ruby Thornton of Holly Springs; and seven grandchildren.

MICHAEL CUNNINGHAM
Michael Paul Alex Cunningham, 30, of Siler City, died Sunday (01-10-2010).
Funeral servics will be held at 3 p.m. Thursday at Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church with Rev. Ray Gooch officiating. Interment will follow in the church cemetery. Friends may visit with the family following the service.
The son of Philip and Rose Norton Cunningham, Michael was born in Leesburg, VA on February 24, 1979. He was a farmer and had worked as a paramedic and scrub nurse.
Survivors include his wife, Ginger McLaurin Cunningham, of the residence; parents, Philip and Rose Cunningham of Cary; sister, Jenny Parker of Cary; brothers, David Cunningham of Fredricksburg, VA, Christopher Cunningham of Wilmington; grandparents, Mary Ledlie Cunningham of Waynesboro, PA, and Irene McLaurin of Siler City.

DAVID ROBERTSON SUGG, JR.
David Robertson Sugg, Jr., 62, died Sunday (12-06-09).
A memorial service will be held at Gracepoint Church, 1089 East Street, in Pittsboro at 2 p.m., Saturday, (01-16-2010) by Pastor Terry Dorsey.
A native of Edgecombe County, he was born February 2, 1947, the son of David Sugg, Sr., and Phoebe Jane Harris Sugg. A US Navy veteran, he served on the USS Sunfish during the Viet Nam war. He was the owner/operator of David Sugg Plumbing of Apex.
Survivors include daughters, Jennifer Sugg of Bynum, Amy Sugg Burke of Pittsboro; sister, Phoebe Jane Sugg Wahab of Bath; and one step-grandchild. David was pre-deceased by his parents and a brother, Edgar Sugg.

ROY IVORY BOWDEN
Mr. Roy Ivory Bowden, 57, of Rockland County, NY died Sunday (01-03-2010) at his home.
Funeral services were held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday (01-12-2010) at Rocky River Missionary Baptist Church with Rev. Frederick James officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Bowden was a native of Chatham County.
Survivors include his mother, Mrs. Pauline Jeffreys Bowden of Siler City; sister, Mrs. Brenda Rose of Holly Springs; and brother, Randy Bowden of Louisville, KY.
MRS. SADIE WITHERSPOON
Mrs. Sadie Witherspoon, 91, of Bennett died Tuesday (01-05-2010) at her home.
Funeral services were held Friday (01-08-2010) at Glovers United Church of Christ with Rev. Smith officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Witherspoon was a housewife and member of Glovers United Church of Christ.
Survivors include a sister, Mrs. Lucille Brower of Bennett.
FRANCES OLDHAM WILLETT
Frances Oldham Willett, 68, of Sanford died Monday (01-11-2010) at her home.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m. Wednesday (01-13-2010) at Rogers Memorial Chapel with Pastor Todd Brown and Rev. Wes Register officiating.
Mrs. Willett was born in Lee County, the daughter of the late Garfield Beal Oldham and Lillie Mae Hart Oldham, and was preceded in death by a sister, Catherine Burns.
Survivors include her husband, Ernest Willett; sons, Ronnie Willett, Randy Willett, both of Gulf, Bobby Willett of the USS George Washington; daughters, Carrie Hooker of Goldston, Tabitha Clack of Dallas, TX; and six grandchildren.
