GROVER MILTON JOHNSON, JR.
Grover Milton Johnson, Jr., 62, of 804 E. Raleigh Street, Siler City died Monday, November 2, 2009 at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.
Mr. Johnson was born September 30, 1947, the son of Grover Milton and Gertrude Womble Johnson, Sr. He was born in Lee County, a 1966 graduate of Jordan-Matthews High School, and an Army Veteran of Vietnam. Grover was the co-owner/operator of Elder Printing. He played golf for over 30 years, enjoyed bass fishing and walking for exercise. He was # 1 Paw Paw to his grandchildren. Grover never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand to anyone.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Grover M. and Gertrude Womble Johnson, Sr.
He is survived by his wife, Diane Elder Johnson; one daughter, Jennifer Johnson Nelson of Siler City; grandchildren, Alex and Ashley Nelson; one brother, Dennis Pake and wife, Myrtle of Moncure; one sister, Judy J. Kirkman of Randleman; niece, Charlotte King; nephews, Michael Kirkman, David Elder, Tony Elder; great niece and nephew, Kirby and Eric; great-great nephew, Hayden; beloved cat, Pookie and many close friends.
The family received friends Wednesday, November 4, 2009 from 1-2 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, and other times at the home of the daughter, Jennifer Nelson, 919 Tanglewood Drive, Siler City, NC 27344. The funeral was held Wednesday, November 4, 2009 at 2 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Terry Pleasants officiating.

FRANCES JONES HEADEN
Mary Frances Jones Headen, 85, of Siler City died Wednesday, (10-21-09) at Chatham Hospital, Inc.
Graveside service was held at 5 p.m. Sunday (10-25-09), at Chatham Memorial Park, with Rev. David Bowden officiating.
Mrs. Headen was the daughter of Alston and Cora Pickett Jones. She worked for 17 years as a bookkeeper at Southeastern Hatcheries, retired from Boling Chair Company, and was of the Baptist faith. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde M. Headen.
Surviving is a son, James Robert Headen of Siler City.

MARY KATHLEEN IVEY MORROW
Mrs. Mary Kathleen “Ms Kitty” Ivey Morrow, age 93, formerly of Burlington, died Friday (10-16-09) at the Palms of Mt. Pleasant, SC.
Graveside services were held at 2 p.m. Sunday (10-18-09) in Pine Hill Cemetery by Dr. Marshall Old.
A native of Chatham County, Mrs. Morrow was vice president/treasurer of Burlington Garment Manufacturing and served as hostess at the Burlington Depot for the Burlington Recreation Department. She was a member of Front Street United Methodist Church where she led the music for the Fanny Larkin Sunday School class. She was prececed in death by her husband, LeRoy Morrow.
Survivors include a son, Roger Morrow of Mt. Pleasant, SC; brother, Col. Thomas E. Ivey of Sumter, SC; sister, Joan Ivey Tillman of Siler City; one granddaughter, two grandchildren, five step-grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.

JOHN PAUL ALLEN, JR.
Mr. John Paul Allen, Jr, 68, of Leland, died Wednesday, (10-21-09) at New Hanover Regional Medical Center, Wilmington.
Funeral services were held at First Baptist Church of Leland at 3 p.m. on Sunday, (10-25-09) with Rev. Dwight Jenkins officiating.
Mr. Allen was born in Asheboro, the son of the late John P. and Ruby Jordan Allen. A member of First Baptist of Leland, he was a graduate of Elon College and retired from North Brunswick High School.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy Ann McDaniel Allen; daughter, Katherine Hardie of Leland; two sons, Keith Allen, John P. Allen III, both of Leland; sisters, Judy King, Georgia Maness, both of Star, Linda Sue Overton of Biscoe; and three granddaughters.
JOAN WOODELL
Joan Woodell, 67, of Asheboro died Friday (10-23-09) at Chatham Hospital, Inc.
The funeral was held Wednesday, (10-28-09) at 1 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, with Rev. Sue Flippin officiating. Burial followed in Bennett Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Woodell, was a native of Moore County, a seamstress with B. J. Consoles of Asheboro and of the Methodist faith. She was preceded in death by her husbands, Gerald Woodell, Bobby Heaton, Sr., and grandson, Jeremy Gerald Martindale.
Survivors include daughters, Mary "Chris" Everwine, Terry Bowman, both of Siler City; sons, Jeff Lautzenheiser of Braselton, GA, Bobby Wayne Heaton, Jr. of Siler City; sister, Dixie of Leaf River, IL; 17 grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren
The funeral was held Wednesday, (10-28-09) at 1 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, with Rev. Sue Flippin officiating. Burial followed in Bennett Baptist Church Cemetery.
CHRISTINE PERRY SMITH ALSTON
Christine Perry Smith Alston, age 77, died October 22, 2009.
Mrs. Alston was born on April 8, 1932, in Siler City to Nell Perry Smith and James Lytle Smith. She graduated from Siler City High School and attended Woman’s College (UNC – Greensboro). She moved to Cary in 1965 and became a member of Apex United Methodist Church where she served over the years in several capacities, including the Board of Trustees and the Administrative Board. She had served as President of the Cary Arts Guild and had been a member of the Cary Planning and Zoning Board.
Mrs. Alston was preceded in death by her parents, a brother, Douglas Smith, a nephew, Jim Brewer, a niece, Kathy Smith, and three brothers-in-law, Jack Barksdale, James L. Brewer, Sr., and W. R. Adkins. She is survived by her beloved husband of 56 years, Thomas Cheatham Alston and three sisters, Shirley S. Brewer of Siler City, Nell S. Barksdale of Jamestown and Patricia S. Adkins of Clinton; a niece, Jennifer B. McBee; nephews Jeff Brewer of Chattanooga, TN; David Barksdale of Winston-Salem, and Mike Adkins of Hamilton, OH; plus several great-nieces and great-nephews; and one great-great nephew. She cherished them all.
A memorial service was held at 11 a.m., Monday, October 26, 2009, at Apex United Methodist Church, 100 S. Hughes St., Apex. Visitation was held after the service. Inurnment will take place at a later date.

LOTTIE SINK PYRTLE
Lottie Sink Pyrtle, 79, of 900 West Dolphin Street, Siler City died Wednesday, October 21, 2009 at Siler City Care & Rehabilitation.
Mrs. Pyrtle was born March 24, 1930, the daughter of Robah Samuel and Sarah Catherine (Bullard) Sink. She was born in Forsyth County but spent most of her life in Alamance and Chatham Counties. She was a sewer at A. J. Schneierson and Sons and Sew Special in Asheboro, and a homemaker who enjoyed cooking. Lottie was preceded in death by her parents, Robah Samuel and Sarah Catherine Bullard Sink; a son, Gary Pyrtle; granddaughter, Ashley Pyrtle; brothers, Robah Samuel Sink, Jr., Albert Sink, Billy Ray Sink, Burton Sink, Richard Sink, Fred Sink, Dwight Sink and sisters, Helen Stewart and Alice Creason.
She is survived by one daughter, Julia P. West and husband, Joseph of Myrtle Beach, SC; one son, Randy L. Pyrtle of Staley; three brothers, Johnny William Sink of Collinsville, OK, Roger Sink of Kernersville, Joe Sink of Kernersville; eight grandchildren, Matthew, Michelle, Lindsey, Alanna, Bethany Pyrtle, Caroline Pyrtle, and Nicole and Ashley West.
The family received friends Saturday, October 24, 2009 from 6-9 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral was held Sunday, October 25, 2009 at 3 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Darrell Garner officiating. Burial followed in Oakley Baptist Church Cemetery.

ROBERT WAYNE TRIPP
Robert Wayne Tripp, 55, of Siler City died Monday, 10-12-09) at his residence.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Mr. Tripp was son of John Henry and Nellie Dennis Tripp. He was a native of Chatham County, a member of Merritts Chapel United Methodist Church and a carpenter by trade.
He is survived by his wife, Donna Poe Tripp of the home; son, Robert Wayne Tripp, Jr. of Pittsboro; father, John Henry Tripp and step-mother, Jane, of Siler City; mother, Nellie D. Tripp of Chapel Hill; brother, John Henry Tripp, Jr. of Chapel Hill; sister, Diane T. Lassiter of Chapel Hill; and two grandsons.
LARRY RAY “RED” LINDLEY
Larry Ray “Red” Lindley, 53, of Pittsboro died Thursday (10-15-09) at the Laurels of Chatham.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m., Sunday, (10-18-09) at Loves Creek Baptist Church, with burial following in the church cemetery.
Mr. Lindley was a native of Chatham County and the son of Marvin Lindley and Frances Mann Lindley. He was a retired sheet metal mechanic, and a member of Loves Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors include his wife, Dolly Ellis Lindley of the home; son Jeremy Lindley of Pittsboro; daughter, Ashley Lindley of Pittsboro; father, Marvin Lindley of Durham; brothers, twin brother Barry Lindley of Staley, Ronnie Lindley of Snow Camp, Jerry Lindley of Bear Creek, and Russell Lindley of Siler City.
Memorials may be directed to the charity of one’s choice.
OLA TYSOR NEAL
Ola Tysor Neal, 93, of Silk Hope died Tuesday (10-06-09) at her home.
A memorial service was held at 2 p.m. Friday, (10-16-09) at Pleasant Hill UMC, with Rev. Ray Gooch officiating. Burial was held at 2 p.m. Thursday (10-08-09) at Pleasant Hill Methodist Church.
Mrs. Neal, a native of Pittsboro was a self-employed business owner.
Survivors include a son, Carson V. Neal; two grandchildren, Patric and Megan. She was preceded in death by her husband, Woodrow Wilson Neal and a son, Richard Oren Neal.

HELEN SMITH THRIFT
Helen Smith Thrift, 86, of Gulf died Sunday, (10-18-09) at Central Carolina Hospital, Sanford.
Funeral services were held Wednesday, (10-21-09) at 2 p.m. at Carbonton United Methodist Church with Rev. Ira Smith officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Thrift was the daughter of Pearl and Lessie Phillips Smith. She was a native of Chatham County, a homemaker and a member of Carbonton United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by her husband Norris Thrift and a son, Gary Norris Thrift.
Survivors include a daughter, Gwen Thrift LaBounty of Westfield; sister, Margaret Fields of Gulf; and two grandchildren.
JULIUS C. HEADEN
Julius C. Headen of Pittsboro died Tuesday (10-13-09) at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday (10-17-09) at Mt. Sinai AME Church. Burial followed in the Pittsboro Cemetery.
Mr. Headen was a graduate of Horton High School and a truck driver for Flakeboard.
Survivors include his wife, Mary Bland Headen of the home; daughters, Sonja, LaShonda Lawson, Tonita Cheek; sisters, Carrie Alston, Cladie Green, Betty Smith; brothers, Jimmy Brooks, Roy Headen, Coy Headen, Jr.; and five grandchildren.
EDNA MARIE GLOVER
Edna Marie Glover, 94, of Siler City died Sunday (10-18-09).
Funeral services will be held at 12 noon Thursday (10-22-09) at Corinth AME Zion Church with Rev. Mary Turner officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Glover was a native of Chatham County, a member of Corinth AME Zion Church, and a former employee of B.B.Walker Shoe Company.
Survivors include daughter, Betty G. Tyson; sister, Joyce G. Alston of Siler City; five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
The family will receive visitors from 11-12 noon Thursday at Corinth AME Zion Church.
