RUTH PHILLIPS WILLETT
Ruth Phillips Willett, 87, of 813 Sheffield Drive, Apt. 24, Siler City died Monday, June 15, 2009 at her residence.
Mrs. Willett was born July 14, 1921, the daughter of Everette and Addie Phillips Phillips. She was a native of Chatham County and a retired registered nurse with Chatham Hospital. She was a graduate of Durham's Nursing School and a member of Edward Hills Friends Meeting. Ruth was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Willett and a son, Frank W. Willett.
She is survived by one son, Dennis M. Willett and wife, Kay of Siler City; one sister, Edith P. Pearce of Siler City; three grandsons and ten great-grandchildren.
The graveside service will be Thursday, June 18, 2009 at 1 p.m. at Edward Hill Friends Meeting, 92 Ed Leonard Road, Siler City with Josh Conrad officiating.

DANNY RAY PARTIN
Danny Ray Partin, 56, of Henderson died Monday (06-01-09) at Maria Parham Medical Center.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday (06-05-09) at New Elam Christian Center in Moncure, with Rev. Moore officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Survivors include his wife, Martha Louise Partin of Henderson; sons, Danny Ray Partin II, Eric D. Johnson, both of Henderson; brother, Fred Partin of Moncure; sister, Estelle Holder of Durham; and five grandchildren.
NORMA NEEMS HORTON
Mrs. Norma Neems Horton, 66, of Chapel Hill, died in her home, Thursday (06-04-09).
Services were held at 3 p.m, Sunday, (06-07-09) at the Church of Living Water with Pastor James Mitchell presiding. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
A native of Orange County, Mrs. Horton was the daughter of A.V. and Texxie Squires Neems. She was the owner/ operator of Norma’s Housekeeping cleaning service, and a member of the Church of Living Water in Staley.
Surviving are her husband, Brodie Horton of the residence; sons, Bobby Horton of Siler City, Tom Godwin of Durham; daughters, Jennifer Golat of Pittsboro, Sherrie Mooney of White Cross, Lucy Godfrey of Mebane; one brother and three sisters; and two granddaughters.
CHESTER LEON NEAL
Mr. Chester Leon Neal, 68, of Pittsboro died Thursday (06-04-09) at his home.
Services were held Wednesday (06-10-09) at 1 p.m. at C.E.Willie Funeral Chapel in Pittsboro, with wake at 12 noon.
HENRIETTA MARIE SCURLOCK
Ms. Henrietta Marie Scurlock of Pittsboro died Sunday, (05-24-09) at her home.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Saturday (05-30-09) at St. Matthews AME Zion Church in Pittsboro. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Scurlock attended Chatham County schools, was a member of St. Matthews Church, and the Helping Hands Club.
Survivors include a son, Robert Lewis Scurlock, Sr.; sisters, Sarah Rogers, Linda Cheek, both of Pittsboro, Margaret Clinkscales of New York; brother, George Scurlock of Pittsboro; and two grandchildren.
JIMMY DAVID HART
Mr. Jimmy David Hart, 62, of Bear Creek died Friday (05-29-09).
Funeral services were held Monday (06-01-09) at Metchell Chapel AME Zion Church, Pittsboro with Rev. Kenneth M. Brooks officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mr. Hart was a graduate of J.S. Waters High School, and a member of Mitchell Chapel Church. He served in the U.S. Army and was employed with UNC Chapel Hill.
Survivors include his wife, Shirley Scurlock Hart; sons, Scott Hart, David Hart, both of Charlotte; mother, Rev. Annie P. Hart of Pittsboro; sisters, Arneta Wicker of Durham, Linda Hart of Greensboro, and Elder Sandra Void of Pittsboro; and one grandson.
DOROTHY JEAN ABERNETHY PETTY
Mrs. Dorothy Jean Abernethy Petty, 79, of Concord, died Saturday (05-30-09) at her residence.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Chatham Memorial Park, Siler City.
Mrs. Petty was a native of Charlotte, the daughter of the late Bruce Abernethy and Jean Catlin Abernethy. She was a homemaker and former co-owner of Petty Trucking. She later worked for Phil Cline Trucking and West Atlantic Trucking. She was preceded in death by her husband James H. Petty and sons, David and James, Jr.
Survivors include daughters, Katherine “Kitty” Hunter of Concord, Nancy Pierotti of Greensboro; brothers, Bruce Abernethy of Dallas, TX, Russell Abernethy of Charlotte; three grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

MINNIE M. BURNS
Mrs. Minnie Robert Dixon McCormick Burns, 90 of Bear Creek died Monday (06-08-09) at The Laurels of Chatham.
Services for Mrs. Burns were held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, (06-10-09) at Mays Chapel Baptist Church, with Pastors Val Chadwick and Eric Davidson presiding. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
A native of Chatham County, she was a daughter of Charles Franklin and Katie Mae Smith McCormick. She was a retired seamstress, and a member of Mays Chapel Baptist Church.
She is survived by her daughter Nadine Overby of Bear Creek; brother, James McCormick of Delaware; sister Nellie Holder of Pittsboro; one granddaughter and two step-grandchildren;

DONNA ANNE CARLE
Donna Anne Carle, 55, of Pittsboro died Friday (06-05-09) at UNC Hospital in Chapel Hill.
She is survived by spouse, Jeffrey Hassler.

CALVIN WESLEY CROSS
Calvin Wesley Cross, 57, of Sanford died Monday, (06-08-09) at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.
Graveside service will be Thursday, (06-11-09) at 11 a.m. at Pleasant Grove Christian Church Cemetery, Bennett with Rev. Scott Yow officiating.
Mr. Cross was the son of Eula Brown Cross. He was a native of Chatham County, a self employed mechanic and heavy equipment operator.
Survivors include his wife, Brenda (Faith) Cross; daughters, Amy Blackmon of Sanford, Angie Johnson of Greensboro, Lora F. Hardin of Sanford; sister, Katie C. Moore of Goldston; and eight grandchildren.
The family received friends Wednesday, (06-10-09) from 7-9 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home.
HAZEL WEBSTER LINDLEY
Hazel Webster Lindley, age 84, of 1261 White Smith Road, Siler City died Thursday, June 4, 2009 at Coventry House of Siler City, Siler City.
Mrs. Lindley was born June 19, 1924 the daughter of Kiah and Dora Ann Cook Webster. She was a native of Chatham County, a member of Sapling Ridge United Methodist Church and retired from Glendale Hosiery. Hazel was preceded in death by her husband, Varney Lindley.
She is survived by nieces, Jeanette C. Phillips and husband, Lewis of Siler City, Norma Moore and husband, Vernon of Burlington, Karen Fahy and husband, Tom of Alexandria, VA, Vera Jones and husband, Carl of Graham; nephew, Bobby Webster of Annandale, VA; and sister-in-law, Bernice Webster of Burlington.
The family received friends Friday, June 5, 2009 from 6-8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral will be Saturday, June 6, 2009 at 11 a.m. at Sapling Ridge United Methodist Church, 5016 Silk Hope-Gum Spring Road, Pittsboro with Rev. Brian Wellborn and Rev. Jim Murphy officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

REBECCA (BECKY) ALLEN FRESHWATER
Mrs. Rebecca (Becky) Allen Freshwater, 59, of Siler City passed away Thursday, June 4, 2009.
A graveside service was held on Sunday at 4 p.m. at Chatham Memorial Park with soloist Jodie Dupree and Rev. Donnie Barbour, Rev. Dan Hudson and Rev. Jim Whittaker officiating.
Becky was the daughter of the late Mary Poe and Norman Ross Allen. She was also preceded in death by two brothers, Thomas A. Allen and Steve R. Allen.
She is survived by her husband, Kenneth Freshwater; two daughters, Angela Willett and husband, Tim of Siler City, Kristin G. Freshwater of the home; two granddaughters, Briana and Morgan Willett; four sisters, Marie Wicker and husband, Worth of Liberty, Phoebe Hembree and husband, John of Murphy, Sylvia Strickland and husband, Sam of Raleigh, Debbie Allen and Jack Grace of Marietta, GA; three brothers, Leonard Allen and wife, Louise of Bear Creek, Virgil Allen and wife, Mary of Siler City, and Winfred Allen and wife, Bonnie of Siler City.
Pallbearers were Earle Allen, Lee Allen, Chad Allen, Jamie Strickland, Daniel Strickland and Kevin Jones. Honorary pallbearers were Stevie Allen and Jody Allen.
Loflin Funeral Home of Liberty served the family.
R.L. “BUDDY” JORDAN, JR.
R. L. "Buddy" Jordan, Jr., 66, of 18887 NC Hwy 902, Bear Creek died Monday, June 8, 2009 at Central Carolina Hospital in Sanford.
Mr. Jordan was born February 26, 1943, the son of Rufus Louis and Iola Westbrooks Jordan. He was a native of Caswell County, retired from Klopman Textiles, and a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church. Buddy was preceded in death by his parents, Rufus L. and Iola Westbrooks Jordan, a sister, Sarah Williams, and grandsons, Zemriah and Trevor Brown.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Beck Jordan of the home; one daughter, Teressa J. Brown and husband, Justin of Siler City; one son, Rufus Earl Jordan of the home; three sisters, Josephine Jordan of Bear Creek, Joyce Ritter and husband, Steve of Liberty, Pat McClelland and husband, Carl of Liberty; six brothers, William Jordan and wife, Sandra of Sanford, Wayne Jordan and wife, Linda of Bear Creek, James Jordan of Franklinville, Larry Jordan and wife, Cherry of Bonlee, Gary Lee Jordan and wife, Janice of Asheboro, David Jordan and wife, Pam of Coleridge; and grandsons, Chris, Trent and Curtis Brown.
