ARCHIE RAY GUNTER
Archie Ray Gunter, 65, of Pittsboro died Wednesday (06-25-2008) at UNC Hospitals.
Services will be held at 2 p.m. Friday (06-27-2008) at the Chapel Mausoleum of Lee Memory Garden in Sanford. Entombment will follow.
Mr. Gunter was a native of Chatham County, a graduate of Pittsboro High School, a veteran and member of Chatham United Methodist Church. He retired from UNC Electric Distribution with 30 years of service.
Surviving is his wife, Shirley Hill Gunter.

IRENE B. FOUST
Irene Bennett Foust, 79, of Staley died Wednesday (06-25-2008) at Randolph Hospital.
Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Saturday (06-28-2008) at Mt. Pleasant Baptist Church with Rev. Roger Riffe officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Foust was a native of Randolph County, retired from Ramtex, and attended Kildee Wesleyan Church.
Survivors include her husband Numa “Gabe” Foust of the home; son, Eugene C. Foust of Staley; daughters, Audrey Elaine Gilmore, Evon Louise Foust, both of Staley; brothers, Floyd Bennett, Donald Bennett, both of Archdale; sister, Eilene Dameron of Sophia; nine grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.
BYRON NELSON “SQUIRREL” JONES
Byron Nelson “Squirrel” Jones, 83, of Pittsboro died Wednesday (06-25-2008) at his residence.
A native of Alamance County, Mr. Jones did logging work, was a tree trimmer and cutter.
Survivors include his children, Irving Jones, Rodney Jones, both of Oregon, L’wana Jones Crone of Oklahoma; sister, Otelier McKenzie of Pittsboro; brother, David Jones of Deep River; and several grandchildren.
At Mr. Jones request, there will be no formal services. Memorials may be directed to Chatham County Council on Aging, PO Box 715, Pittsboro, NC 27312.
KAY BURKE PEEDIN
Kay Burke Peedin, 48, of Rocky Point died Sunday (06-29-2008).
Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Wednesday (07-02-2008) at Castle Hayne Baptist Church with Rev. Billy Fowler officiating. Burial followed in Burgaw Cemetery.
Mrs. Peedin was a native of Chatham County, former resident of Siler City, attended Chatham County Schools, and was employed with BB&T Bank in Siler City.
Survivors include her husband, James “Jimmy” H. Peedin III; daughter, Taylor Ruth Peedin; sons, JonMichael Peedin, James “Jay” H. Peedin IV; mother, Joy Ruth Burke of Siler City; and sister, Sue B. Cagle.

MARGIE ROBERTS SOUTHER
Marjorie Roberts Souther, 80, of Siler City died Thursday, June 26, 2008 at Chatham Hospital, Inc., Siler City.
Mrs. Souther was born September 25, 1927, the daughter of Curtis Baxter and Mittie Mae Mahaffey Roberts. Mrs. Souther was a native of Forsyth County. She was a member of Moon's Chapel Baptist Church, Siler City, where she was a teacher for the Adult Ladies Sunday School Class and a leader of the WMU. Margie worked as a sales associate for G. L. Harris Jewelry for 42 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Vestal D. Souther; her parents, Curtis and Mittie Mae Mahaffey Roberts; and one brother, Curtis Baxter Roberts, Jr.
She is survived by two daughters: Diane Souther Tilley and husband, Cliff of Siler City, Tena Souther Butts and husband, Bill of Greensboro; grandson, Daniel Tilley and wife Heather of Asheboro; and great-grandson, Preston C.
Tilley.
The family received friends one hour prior to the service, Saturday, June 28, 2008 at the church and other times at the home of Diane and Cliff Tilley.
The funeral was held at 11 a.m. Saturday, June 28, 2008 at Moon's Chapel Baptist Church, 175 Moon's Chapel Road, Siler City with Rev. Scott Faw and the Rev. Bruce Brown officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

J. RUSSELL COTTEN
J. Russell Cotten, 85, of Palm Beach Gardens, FL died Thursday (06-12-2008).
Graveside services and burial were held at 10 a.m. Friday (06-20-2008) at the Haywood Independent Bible Church Cemetery with the Rev. Garland Smith officiating.
Mr. Cotton was a native of Merry Oaks, a retired iron worker with forty-five years service and a member of the Iron Workers Local #402.
Survivors include daughters, Barbara Thomas, Cathy Hooker, Brenda Koncoski; six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.
DELORES ANNE BRAXTON
Delores Anne Braxton, 68, of Siler City, died Wednesday, June 18, 2008 at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital in Greensboro. Ms. Braxton was born September 26, 1939, the daughter of Diffie S. and Mable (Johnson) Braxton.
Ms. Braxton was a native of Chatham County and a member of South Fork Friends Meeting. She was a retired poultry farmer. In her spare time, Ms.
Braxton enjoyed baking and sharing fruit cakes. She was preceded in death by her parents, Diffie and Mable Johnson Braxton; a sister, Bonnie Braxton Buie; and a brother, Robert G. Braxton.
She is survived by one daughter: Dana B. Hardy and husband, Terry of Siler City; life long companion, Anthony "Tony" Stout of Siler City; and a step-granddaughter, Crystal Hardy of Siler City.
The family received friends Friday, June 20, 2008 from 6:30-8:30 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral was held at 2 p.m., Saturday, June 21, 2008 at South Fork Friends Meeting, 359 South Fork-Bethel Road, Snow Camp, with Rev. Ricky Sessoms officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

PEARL BREWER WELCH
Pearl Brewer Welch, 92, of Siler City died Friday, June 20, 2008 at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill. Mrs. Welch was born January 31, 1916 the daughter of John Q. and Elizabeth (Fields) Brewer.
Mrs. Welch was a native of Chatham County and retired from Brian Center of Siler City. She was a member of Brush Creek Baptist Church, the Bessie Gilbert Sunday School Class, a former Sunday School teacher and Bible School teacher. Pearl was a member of the WMC, a former member of the church choir and had served in various other positions in the church.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Carl L. Welch, five brothers and two sisters.
She is survived by four daughters: Carol (Tootsie) Perry and husband, William Earl of Siler City, Judy Preslar and husband, Waylon of High Falls, Nanci Evans and husband, Ron of Siler City, Carlene Stevens and husband, Jimmy of Garner; one son, Johnny Welch of the home; seven grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, one great-great-granddaughter; sisters-in-law, Hilda Brewer of Bennett, Lena Brewer of Asheboro; special friend, Shirley Alston; and special niece, Sue Perry.
The family received friends Sunday, June 22, 2008 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City, other times at the family home.
The funeral was held Monday, June 23, 2008 at 1 p.m. at Brush Creek Baptist Church, 5345 Airport Road, Bear Creek with Rev. Ed Lowder, Rev. Don Daniel and Rev. Al Martin officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

DORIS HARGROVE PERRY
Doris Hargrove Perry, 81, of Siler City died Monday, June 23, 2008 at Chatham Hospital, Inc., Siler City.
Mrs. Perry was born February 21, 1927, the daughter of Thomas Albert and Lois (Jones) Hargrove. Mrs. Perry was a native of Chatham County and a member of Rocky River Baptist Church. She was the owner-operator of Doris'
Beauty Shop. She was preceded in death by her husband, Wade H. "June" Perry, Jr.
She is survived by one son, Thomas Jeffrey Perry and wife, Sue of Siler City; grandchildren, Crystal Perry Sharp and husband, Greg of Sanford, Thomas Lester Perry and wife, Nicki of Siler City, Heather Lynn Ward of Siler City, and Cameron Thomas Ward of Siler City.

Louise Harris Mann, 82, of Pittsboro died Tuesday (06-10-2008) in Cambridge Hills Assisted Living.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Friday (06-13-2008) at Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church with Rev. Rex Brooks and Rev. Jim Owens officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Mann was a native of Chatham County, a homemaker, and member of Mt. Pleasant United Methodist Church.
Survivors include her husband, Leon Mann; sons, Jeff Mann, Stephen L. Mann; sisters, Dorothy Thompson of Pittsboro, Hilda Potts of Durham; and two grandchildren.
TOMMY D. LAYTON
Timothy Darrell Layton, 51, of Liberty died Tuesday (06-10-2008) at Wake Forest University Baptist Medical Center.
Memorial services were held at the home at 10 a.m. Friday (06-13-2008), with David Hobson officiating.
Mr. Layton was a native of Randolph County and operated Layton Landscaping.
Survivors include his wife, Cathy Fesmire Layton; son, Michael of the home; and his mother, Josephine “Patsy” Booth Layton.

GLENDA GAIL BURNS BEAL
Glenda Gail Burns Beal, 58, of Goldston died Thursday, (06-12-2008) at her residence.
Funeral services were held at 3 p.m. Sunday (06-15-2008) at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel. Burial followed at Carbonton United Methodist Church Cemetery.
Surviving is her husband, Terry Earl Beal of the home; son, Chad Beal of Oak Island; sisters, Becky Patterson of Broadway, Debbie Burns of Bear Creek; and one granddaughter.
JOSEPH CHARLES DUNN
Joseph Charles Dunn, 90, of Siler City died Wednesday (06-11-2008) at SunBridge Care and Rehabilitation Center.
Graveside services were held at 11 a.m. Friday (06-13-2008) at Chatham Memorial Park, with Mr. Keith Johnson, officiating.
