TREVA GAIL BATCHELOR BRADY
Treva Gail Batchelor Brady, 68, of Sanford died Thursday, (01-03-2013), at Central Carolina Hospital.

Funeral services were held Sunday, (01-06-2013) at 3 p.m. at Turners Chapel Church with Rev. Bruce Mac-Innes officiating. Burial followed at Cool Springs Baptist Church.

Mrs. Brady was born in Lee County on October 12, 1944, to the late Ocie Batchelor and Bessie Petty Batchelor. She was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Carl Gene Brady; daughters, Sandy Gail Inscoe, Wendy Brady Broeker, both of Sanford; brothers, Bobby Lee Batchelor, Donnie Batchelor, both of Sanford; sisters, Elizabeth Faye West and Karen Ashworth, both of Sanford.

DOROTHY LILLIAN CHAMBERS CHANDLER
Dorothy Lillian Chambers Chandler, 81, died Sunday, (12-09-2012), at Galloway Ridge.

A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. Saturday, (01-12-2013) at The Gathering Place at Fearrington Village, 26 Swim and Croquet.

Dorothy was born in Charlotte, December 26, 1930, to Paul Clifford Chambers and Olga Elizabeth Hurt Chambers, who preceded her in death, as did her husband, Lynn Fage Chandler and brother, Paul Clifford Chambers, III. She graduated from Queens College in Charlotte and completed her Masters in Art at Georgia State Univ.

Surviving are daughters, Lillian Carol Chandler of Pittsboro, Elizabeth “Beth” Lynn Chandler of Arvada, Colorado; sister, Mary Alice Chambers Smith; and two granddaughters.

Memorials may be directed to a charity of your choice in her name.

LELA H. GILMORE
Mrs. Lela H. Gilmore, 94, of Sanford, died Friday, (01-04-2013), at Sanford Health and Rehabilitation Center.

The funeral was held Monday, (01-07-2013), at 3 p.m. at Edgewood Presbyterian Church with Rev. Dr. Bill Hayes officiating. Burial followed at Spring Hill United Methodist Church, Lillington.

Mrs. Gilmore was born in Harnett County, on February 18, 1918, to the late Malcolm Holder and Annie Morrison Holder. She was preceded in death by an infant daughter and a son, James D. Holder.

Survivors include a grandson, and three great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.

DOROTHY PAIGE-ROGERS
Dorothy Paige-Rogers, formerly of Siler City, died Sunday (12-30-2012) in Los Angeles, CA.

A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Survivors include a daughter Romana; sisters, Jean Durham, Helen Dorsey; and brothers, James and Bill Paige.

WILLIARD EDWARD DUNN
Willard Edward Dunn, 80, of Bear Creek, passed away Friday, (01-04-2013) at the home of his daughter.

Graveside services were held Sunday, (01-06-2013) at 3 p.m. at Oakley Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mr. Dunn was a Chatham County native and worked at Boling Chair Company.

Mr. Dunn was preceded in death by a son, Charles Edward Thomas.

Survivors include a daughter, June Bray of Bear Creek; son, Willam Earl Thomas of Pittsboro; brothers, Clarence Dunn of Moncure, Roland Dunn of Sanford, Buck Dunn of Goldston; sisters, Linda Alnupt of Cameron, Bonnie Cashwell of Clinton; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

NANNIE CRUTCHFIELD EMERSON
Mrs. Virgil Nannie Lee Crutchfield Emerson passed away Thursday (12-27-2012) at her home.

Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Monday (12-31-2012) at Mitchell Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church with Rev. Anthony J. Davis officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

A native of Chatham County she was a daughter of the late Gaston and Annie Marie Crutchfield. She was a member of Mitchell Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church, the Order of the Eastern Star Chapter #617 where she was Past Worthy Matron and the G Wesley Allen Order of the Golden Circle #324. After retiring from Collins and Aikman, she worked with Pittsboro Christian Village.

Mrs. Emerson was preceded in death by her brother Levie Crutchfield, her parents and a grandson, Stephen Alfonzo Emerson.

Survivors include her husband, Raymond Howard Emerson of the home; sons, Alfonzo Emerson of Sanford, Howard Emerson, Hermon Emerson, both of Greensboro; daughters, Peggy Emerson Hagans of Virginia Beach, VA, Laura Emerson of Greensboro, Janice Emerson of Pleasant Garden; three siblings, Perry L. Crutchfield of Raleigh, Lizzie L. Ratliff of Graham, Henry W. Crutchfield of Greensboro; thirteen grandchildren, eleven great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

KIMBERLY ANN COX
Miss Kimberly Ann Cox, 32, of Carthage passed away Sunday, (01-06-2013) at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, (01-10-2013) at 2 p.m. at Pine Mountain Friends Church with Rev. Robert L. Kidd officiating. Burial will follow in the Church cemetery.
Miss Cox was a Moore County native and worked as a poultry house technician.
Survivors include daughters, Makayla Garner, Ashlyn Phillips; sister, Caroline Wood of Bear Creek; brothers, Matthew Cox, Daniel Cox; and grandmother, Kathleen Phillips of Bennett.

Visitation was held Wednesday, (01-09-2013) from 6-8 p.m. at Joyce-Brady Chapel, and other times at the home of her sister at 12410 Siler City Glendon Rd., Bear Creek.

GORDON S. JENKINS
Mr. Gordon S. Jenkins, 64,

Of Pittsboro died Saturday, (12-15-2012) at UNC Hospitals in Chapel Hill.

Funeral services were held Thursday (12-20-2012) at St. Bartholomew Episcopal Church with Rev. Dr. Wilburforce Munda. Burial followed at the church cemetery.

Survivors include sisters, Sarah J. Hill of Chapel Hill, Jacqueline J. Sanders of Raleigh; brothers, Michael E. Jenkins of Glen Burnie, MD, Norris A. Jenkins of Pittsboro, and Larry T. Jenkins of Sanford.

HAROLD DAVID HORTON
Harold David Horton, 59, of Siler City died Wednesday (12-19-2012) at his home.

Funeral services were held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Corinth A.M.E. Zion Church

Mr. Horton was a native of Chatham County, a graduate of Jordan-Matthews High School and a truck driver for Reives Trucking.

Survivors include his wife, Ella F. Horton; sons, Ahmand R. Horton, Jared J. Horton, both of Siler City, David Horton, Jr. of Japan; sisters, Robin S. Headen of Greensboro, Judy H. Williams of Siler City; brother, Tony Marsh of Bear Creek; and eight grandchildren.

JAMES ROGERDALE BROOKS
James Rogerdale Brooks, 69, of Siler City died Sunday, (12-23-2012) at his home.

Funeral services were held Friday at 2 p.m. at Jordan Grove A.M.E. Zion Church with Rev. Willard Neal. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Brooks was a native of Chatham County and a member of Jordan Grove A.M.E. Zion Church.

Survivors include a daughter, Bonita Branch of Upper Marlboro, MD; son, Keith Rodney Graves of Lithonia, GA; sisters, Stella Burnett of Siler City, Eva Glen of Greensboro; brothers, Roland Brooks, Larry Brooks, of Siler City, Robert Headen of Durham; and two grandchildren.

JOSEPHINE H. GLOVER
Josephine H. Glover of Snow Camp died Thursday (12-27-2012) at Hospice and Palliative Care Center of Alamance-Caswell.

The funeral was held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Evans Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church with Rev. Kenneth Swann officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

She was preceded in death by siblings, Katie H. Williams, Talbert Headen, Jr., Gladys Headen Brooks and Jerry Headen

Survivors include daughters, Samantha G. Glover, Josette Glover-Evans; sisters, Hazel H. Alston of Pittsboro, Emma Craven of Siler City; brothers, L.T. Headen of Siler City, Grady Headen of Lithonia, GA.

JOHNNIE CLINTON SCOTT
Johnnie Clinton Scott, 89, of Siler City died Tuesday, January 1, 2013 at the home of his daughter.

Mr. Scott was born in Chatham County on November 28, 1923, the son of Johnnie Herbert and Annie (Cox) Scott.

He retired from Gold Kist after 22 years of service. Clinton was a member of The Siler City Chapel and was an Army veteran of WW II. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mollie Gaines Scott; brothers, Billy, Clarence and Ernest Scott and a sister, Tessie Dinkins.

Survivors include one daughter, Janie Scott Riggsbee and husband Mark of Bonlee; one son, Mark Scott and wife, Janet of Bennett; two brothers, Lester Scott and Russell Scott, both of Bear Creek; grandchildren, Brad and Abby Howard of Bonlee, Wendy Johnson of Siler City, Dana Scott of Bonlee, Tina Harrelson of Bennett; and two great-grandchildren, Ashton Rollins and Aidan Johnson.

The family received friends Thursday, January 3, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. Other times the family was at the home of the daughter, 223 Edwards Hill Road, Siler City.

The funeral was held Friday, January 4, 2013 at 2 p.m. at the Siler City Chapel, 166 South Third Avenue, Siler City with Dr. Tommy Steele and Rev. Darrell Williams officiating. Burial followed in Chatham Memorial Park with military rites by the Randolph County Honor Guard.

Memorials may be made to Liberty Home Care and Hospice, 401 East Third Street, Siler City, NC 27344.

MERLE LOUISE COBLE FOX
Merle Louise Coble Fox, 90, of Staley, passed away on Tuesday, January 1, 2013.

A funeral service was held Friday, January 4, 2013 at 7 p.m. at Shady Grove Baptist Church. Burial was private. The family received friends on Friday evening in the Family Life Center following the service.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Coy Fox.

Surviving is her daughter, Nancy Fox White of Staley; son, Ronnie Fox and wife, Cheryl of Whitsett; grandchildren, Jennifer Fox Overcash, Nikki Kelly and Quent White, seven great-grandchildren; and a very special friend, Connie Rush of Sunset Beach.

EUGENE HARRIS FOUST, JR.
Eugene Harris Foust, Jr., 91, passed away peacefully on Thursday, January 3rd, 2013 in the care of Randolph Hospice.

A memorial service honoring his life was held at Mt. Vernon Springs Presbyterian Church at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning January 5, following interment in the Church cemetery. The family visited with friends from six o’clock until eight o’clock in the evening on Friday at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home in Siler City.

A native of Chatham County, Mr. Foust was born December 5, 1921 at Mt. Vernon Springs to the late Eugene Harris Sr. and Arabella Foust. He enjoyed telling people about the two springs; one whose waters aided health and the other beauty. He graduated from Bonlee High School in the Class of 1939 and served his country with the United States Army Air Corps in WW II. He married his wife, the late Mamie Lee Andrew in 1947 and they were married 49 years. He is survived by their daughter, Elizabeth F. Mason, her husband Rodney C. Mason of Asheboro and their two sons, Huntington Foust Mason, of Raleigh and Harris Carrington Mason of Asheboro. He is also survived by his nieces and nephews and by those of his wife, all of whom have been good to him.

Gene and Mamie Lee made their home in Siler City. He worked for years as the Parts and Service manager for Edwards Motor Company. Mamie Lee taught home economics at Jordan Matthews High School. They were charter members of Siler City Presbyterian Church and devoted most of their volunteer time to the congregation. Gene was a member of the volunteer fire department and he delighted in seeing his young grandsons riding on the Fire Department trucks during the Town’s Fourth of July Parade. He also worked in his large backyard garden and enjoyed sharing its bounty. After retiring, he ran a small picture-framing business from his workshop. He remained up-to-date with the news of local and national events by visiting almost every day with his friends at Kenny’s and at the Farmer’s Alliance Store. He came to live near his daughter and her family in Asheboro in August of 2011, residing at the Mountain Top Apartments where he appreciated the kindness of his fellow residents and the staff.

Gene was preceded in death by his brothers, Ben Stroud Foust, Charles Ryan Foust, John Headen Foust and his only sister, Sarah Elizabeth Foust Smith. Please make memorial contributions to the Siler City Presbyterian Church, 720 West 3rd Street in Siler City, North Carolina 27344.

CHARLES JAMES JOHNSON
The Honorable Mayor Charles James Johnson, 59, of Siler City died Saturday, January 5, 2013 at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.

Mr. Johnson was born in Chatham County on November 10, 1953, the son of the late James “Shag” and Barbara “Bobbie” (Jenks) Johnson. He was a graduate of Jordan Matthews High and attended UNC-Chapel Hill. He was the owner of Confidential Tax Services and Johnson Real Estate and Investments for 35 years. Charles was a member of the Siler City Rotary Club where he was named a Paul Harris Fellow, the UNC – Chatham Hospital Board, Chatham County Arts Incubator, Chatham Trades, Chatham County Literacy Council, Chatham County Council on Aging, Chatham County Democratic Party along with many other community organizations. Charles was a member of Loves Creek Baptist Church where he taught the Unity Sunday School Class.

Charles was an avid Tar Heel fan and Rams Club member. He enjoyed traveling, golfing, and sunny days at the beach.

He is survived by his wife, Lisa (Andrews) Johnson; children, Amanda Johnson, Kim Johnson, Charles Johnson, Jr. and wife, Ana, Laura Collins and husband, Chad, Megan Moore and husband, Chance, Derek Andrews; grandchildren, Brittany Phillips, Nathan Phillips, Katie Johnson, Colton Collins; mother, Ernestine Perry; grandfather, Robert Goins; siblings, Margaret Jones, Linda Williams and husband, Justin, Brenda Hadley and husband, William, Mark Johnson and wife, Lorie, Glenda Branson and husband, Dennis; numerous nieces, nephews, aunts, uncles and granddogs.

The family received friends Tuesday, January 8, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at First Baptist Church, 314 North 2nd Avenue, Siler City. The funeral was held Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 3 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Siler City with Rev. Bob Boyd and Rev. Jim Wall officiating. Burial followed in Oakwood Cemetery, Siler City.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Siler City Rotary Club Scholarship Fund, United Way of Chatham County, West Chatham Relay for Life or the Boys & Girls Club of Chatham.

Smith & Buckner Funeral Home assisted the family.
