MRS. WILLIE MAE “BILLIE” MORGAN
Mrs. Willie Mae “Billie” Morgan, 86, of Morgan Farm Road, Pittsboro, died January 4, 2013 at her grandson’s residence in Pittsboro, following a period of declining health.

The daughter of John A. Harveson and Edith Pennington Harveson, Mrs. Morgan was born June 11, 1926 in Jasper, TN. Mrs. Morgan worked at UNC in Chapel Hill in the print shop, retiring after 20 plus years of service. She enjoyed traveling, especially to the beach. She loved the Lord and reading her Bible was an important part of her life. Mrs. Morgan also loved her family, and her grandchildren and great-grandchildren were the light of her life. She was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church, worshiping there as long as her health permitted.

Survivors include her son-in-law, Vernon Howard of Chapel Hill; sister, Adell Howard of Pittsboro; grandchildren, Tony Howard and wife Pam, Lori Morin and husband Joseph; great-grandchildren, Christian Howard, Amanda Culberson and husband Jake, Hannah Morin, and Brennan Morin.

Mrs. Howard was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Theodore Morgan; daughter, Edna Howard; grandson, Barry Howard; and brother, JC Harveson.

The service to celebrate Mrs. Morgan’s life was held at eleven o’clock Tuesday morning, January 8, 2013 at Lighthouse Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Hall, Pastor Bill Truesdale and Chaplain Steve Jordan presiding. Interment followed in Westwood Cemetery in Carrboro. Friends visited with the family from 6 – 8 p.m. Monday at Hall – Wynne Funeral Home in Pittsboro.

Arrangements for Mrs. Morgan were under the care of Hall – Wynne funeral service and Cremation of Pittsboro.

CHARLES RUSSELL UNDERWOOD
Charles Russell Underwood, age 81, passed away Sunday, January 6, 2013.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, January 9, 2013 at 2 p.m. at Miller-Boles Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Vernon Tyson officiating. Burial followed at Farmville Community Cemetery in Sanford. The family received friends on Tuesday, January 8, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at Miller-Boles Funeral Home of Sanford.

He was born in Lee County, NC on January 13, 1931, to the late James Redin and Floy Harrington Underwood. After graduating from Deep River School, Charlie entered the Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict. Upon leaving the Marines, he embarked on what was to become a remarkable career in the water well drilling and pump industries, helping to provide many cities, towns, and industries with clean water. Even after retiring from the day-to-day operations of his company, Charlie continued to advise and inspire his employees.

Charlie was known for many things: his incredible work ethic, his belief in civic responsibility, and his willingness to help those in need. He was also known for his infectious smile, easy wit and love of good food. Charlie was an avid reader, particularly on his two favorite subjects, history and all things mechanical. He enjoyed collecting and restoring antique trucks, tractors, and engines.

He leaves behind his wife of 54 years, Shelby Wicker Underwood; his daughter Susan and husband Randy Stallings of Wake Forest; his son Russell and wife Carolyn Underwood of Sanford. Charlie is also survived by his sisters, Nancy Hall, Shirley Hall and brother Waylon Underwood, all of Sanford. He was preceded in death by his brother, J.R. Underwood, Jr. Charlie also leaves behind friends, employees, and customers who will miss his ready smile, wealth of knowledge and helping hand.

The family would be pleased that contributions in Charlie’s memory are made to: Patrick Henry Boys & Girls Plantation, PO Box 1398, Brookneal, VA 24528-9905 or to Duke Cancer Institute, Box 90581, Durham, NC 27708-0581 or to the charity of one’s choice.

Miller-Boles Funeral Home of Sanford served the family.

CAROL POE WORRELL
Carol Poe Worrell, 69, formerly of Pittsboro, NC died Monday, December 31, 2012 in Lansdale, PA.

She retired from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill as a Grants Administrator with over 20 years of service. She was a graduate of Central Carolina Community College with an Associate Degree in Accounting. She was also a volunteer EMT for the East Chatham Rescue squad.

Born at Watts Hospital in Durham, North Carolina, she was the daughter to the late James C. Poe and Annie Logan Poe.

She is survived by her daughter, Renee Worrell-Samoil of Ambler, PA and many loving family members and friends.

Please make memorial contributions to the UNC Neuro Fund for Excellence in care of the Medical Foundation of NC, 880 MLK Jr. Boulevard, Chapel Hill, NC 27514.

TAMMY JO MOORE BOOTH
Tammy Jo Moore Booth, 46, of Randleman died Thursday, (12-20-2012) at Moses H.Cone Memorial Hospital, Greensboro.
A funeral service was held Sunday, (12-23-2012) at 2 p.m. at Community Baptist Church, with Dr. Mark Agan officiating.

Mrs. Booth was born in Chatham County on May 16, 1966, the daughter of James I. and Emma Katherine (Burke) Moore. She was a member of Brookdale Baptist Church, a graduate of Jordan-Matthews High School and CCCC in Sanford. Tammy had worked in tax programming for Electro File. She was preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Shirley Deese.

She is survived by her husband: Greg K Booth; two daughters, Caitlyn Booth and Sydney Booth of the home; sisters, Linda M. Forster of Siler City, Sandra M. Linton of Goldsboro; brothers, James L. Moore of Homestead, FL, Sammy G. Moore of Coats, Barry G. Moore of Siler City.

BETTY LOU “BOOTSIE” MABE FERGUSON
Betty Lou “Bootsie” Mabe Ferguson, 82, of Siler City died Monday, (12-24-2012) at UNC Hospitals, Chapel Hill.
A celebration of life service was held Friday, (12-28-2012) at 1 p.m. at Mount Vernon United Methodist Church, with Rev. Jason Dickerson officiating.
Mrs. Ferguson was born in Stokes County, August 31, 1930, the daughter of Gilmer J. and Betty (Moorefield) Mabe. She was a member of Mt.Vernon United Methodist Church and a homemaker. Betty was preceded in death by her parents; brothers and sister, Dennis Mabe, Odell Mabe, Elsie Manuel, Maggie Mabe and Thelma Webb.

She is survived by her husband, Tommy Ferguson; daughters, Cindy F. Thomas of Mooresville, Sallie Ferguson of Siler City; son, Mike Ferguson of Apex; two granddaughters, Alison Thomas and Morgan Thomas; sisters, Polly Case, Eldean Cardwell and Shirley Mounce.

Memorials may be made to Mount Vernon United Methodist Church.

WILLIAM HAROLD HILLIARD
William Harold Hilliard, 54, of Bear Creek died Tuesday, (12-25-2012) at Central Carolina Hospital, Sanford.

The funeral was held Friday, (12-28-2012) at 11 a.m. at Hickory Grove Baptist Church, with Rev. Darrell Garner officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Mr. Hilliard was born November 9, 1958, the son of Walter Harold and Doris (Jones) Hilliard. He was a member of Hickory Grove Baptist Church and employed with Community Cable for 28 years and as a maintenance worker at Southwest Community Recreational Park. He also enjoyed farming. He was preceded in death by his father and a niece, Tonya Thompson.
He is survived by a son, Joshua Hilliard of Charlotte; mother, Doris Jones Hilliard; sisters, Patricia Gaines Wagoner of Bear Creek, Carolyn Hilliard Patterson of Siler City; and five grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Hickory Grove Baptist Church, 17721 NC Hwy 902, Bear Creek, NC 27207.

VIRGINIA BRAFFORD JOHNSON
Virginia Eliza Brafford Johnson, 88, of Siler City died Wednesday, (12-26-2012) at Siler City Care & Rehabilitation.

The funeral will be held Saturday, (12-29-2012) at 2 p.m. at the First Wesleyan Church, 608 North Third Avenue, Siler City, NC with Rev. Eddie McClure and Rev. Jerry Johnson officiating. Burial followed at Chatham Memorial park.

Mrs. Johnson was born in Chatham County on October 4, 1924, the daughter of Edward R. and Nellie (Parrish) Brafford. She was retired from Collins & Aikman, a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church and attended First Wesleyan Church in Siler City. Virginia was preceded in death by her husband, Porter W. Johnson.

Survivors include a daughter, Vivian Johnson of Siler City; son, Roger Johnson of Carrboro; sisters, Elsie Jones of Siler City, Mildred Covert of Pittsboro; and one granddaughter.

Memorials may be made to the First Wesleyan Church of Siler City or to Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church of Pittsboro

DORIS THRAILKILL LEMONS
Mrs. Doris Thrailkill Lemons, 86, died Tuesday (12-25-2012) at Cambridge Hills Assisted Living in Pittsboro.

The Celebration of Life service was held at 11 a.m. Friday, (12-28-2012) at Pittsboro United Methodist Church, with Pastors Ben Alexander and Ray Gooch presiding. Interment followed in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Lemons was born in Chatham County on August 5, 1926, the daughter of Normie and Elsie Seymour Thrailkill. A homemaker for most of her life, she worked as a teacher’s assistant for a time, at Pittsboro Elementary School. She was a member of Pittsboro United Methodist Church where she served as flower coordinator, on the hospitality committee and worked on the PUMC Bazaar.

Mrs. Lemons is survived by her daughter, Resa Webster of Pittsboro; son, Brent Lemons of Raleigh; four grandchildren; and a sister, Marie Smith of Colonial Heights, VA. Mrs. Lemons was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wade; and a brother

J. BOYCE GARNER
James Boyce Garner, 86, of Franklinville, died Sunday, (12-23-2012) at Universal Health Care in Ramseur.

Funeral services will be held at 2 p.m., Thursday, (12-27-2012), at Franklinville United Methodist Church, with Rev. Bob Dowling and Rev. Harold Hammond officiating. Burial will follow at Concord United Methodist Church.

A native of Randolph County, he worked in sales with Dainty Biscuit Company and later retired from the NC Department of Transportation. He was a member of Franklinville United Methodist Church and Coleridge Lions Club. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Nancy “Polly” Hilliard Garner, his second wife, Ruby Cox Garner, parents, Carlie and Clara Yow Garner, brothers, Weldon Garner, Lowell Garner, Joe Garner, and sister, Lucy Burns.

Surviving is a sister, Iris Jones of Ramseur.

RANDY VINSON WIMBERLY
Randy Vinson Wimberly, 59, of Moncure died Sunday, (12-23-2012) at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Funeral services were held Wednesday (12-26-2012) at 2 p.m. at New Elam Christian Church with Rev. Gary Moore officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

He was born in Lee County, the son of Sarah Faye Wimberly Smith the late Ben Wimberly. He was also preceded in death by his daughter, Dana Wimberly and granddaughter, Mackenzie Wimberly.

Survivors include his mother and step-father, Sarah Faye Wimberly Smith and Bill of Moncure; wife, Kay Worrell Wimberly of the home; daughter, Charity Michelle Wimberly of Fuquay Varina; son, Andy Vinson Wimberly of Cameron; sisters, Theresa W. Parker of Moncure, LuAnn W. Turlington of Lillington; brother, Danny Wimberly of Sanford; and four grandchildren.

HILDA WILSON
Ms. Hilda Wilson, 67, of Burlington, died Monday, (12-17-2012) at Hospice Home of Alamance.

A native of Alamance County, she was the daughter of George F. Wilson, Sr. and Raymond Baldwin Wilson now deceased.

Funeral services were held Saturday, (12-22-2012) at New Covenant United Holy Church at 12:30 p.m. with Bishop Harry L. Cohen and Rev. Donald C. Copeland officiating. Burial followed in Terrell’s Chapel AME Zion Church Cemetery.

Survivors include her son, Emmanuel Wilson of the home; brother, George F. Wilson, Jr. of Pittsboro; sister, Maxine Baldwin of Burlington; and adopted son, Lucky Walker of Elon.

JANE ELIZABETH ANDERSON HINSON
Mrs. Jane Elizabeth Anderson Hinson, 71, of Broadway, died Friday, (12-21-2012), at her home.

Burial will be at a later date in San Saba, Texas.

Mrs. Hinson was born on January 18, 1941, in San Saba, Texas to the late Clarence Bryant Anderson and Leonda Behrens Anderson. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dean L. Hinson. She was a retired secretary.

She is survived by two sisters, Bettye McLaughlin of San Saba, Texas and Kathleen Turner of Broadway.

DONALD DUANE HOWARD
Mr. Donald Duane Howard, 79, of Sanford, died Sunday, (12-23-2012) at Central Carolina Hospital.

A memorial service was held Friday (12-28-2012) at 3 p.m. at the Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home Chapel with Chaplain Joel Cameron officiating.

He was born in Newton, KS on February 6, 1933 to the late Peter Howard and Reba Ragland Howard. He was also preceded in death by two brothers. A graduate of the University of Kansas, he worked for the Food and Drug Administration, at G.D. Searle Pharmaceutical Company, and Abbott Laboratories as the director of research and development in the quality control department.

Survivors include wife, Nancy A. Becraft Howard; sons William Howard of Oregon, Pete Howard of Texas, and Dan Howard of Sanford; one daughter Sarah Howard of Washington State; nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

ROSALIE B. LEVINSTONE
Rosalie B. Levintone, 85, of Pittsboro died Wednesday, (12-19-2012).

Arrangements were under the care of Hall-Wynne funeral service and Cremation.

SAMUEL HOWARD CASEY
Samuel Howard Casey, 95, of Chapel Hill died Saturday, (12-22-2012).
