ROBERT RILEY FERGUSON, JR.
Robert Riley Ferguson, Jr. of Siler City died Friday, February 15, 2013 at his residence.

Mr. Ferguson was born March 30, 1922, the son of Robert Riley and Ina Bolding Ferguson. “Bobby” was a native of Haywood County but has been a resident and a dairy farmer in Chatham County since 1950 until his retirement in 1987. Prior to farming, he worked as a machinist at the shipyard in Newport News, Virginia and served in the US Air Force. He was a member and past deacon of Hickory Mountain Baptist Church and a charter member of the Silk Hope Ruritan Club. He enjoyed spending time with his family, boating, fishing, and helping his neighbors.

He was preceded in death by his wife of 64 years, Georgia; his mother and father; brothers, Albert and Buford; sister, Anna Lou Fincher, along with several nieces and nephews.

Surviving are his children, Sherry F. Kidd and husband Billy of Siler City, Michael R. Ferguson and wife Kaye of Greensboro, Diane F. Aker and husband Wayne of McLeansville; grandchildren Rob Kidd and wife Beth, Kelly K. Eldridge and husband, John, Jeff Ferguson, Greg Smith and wife Amy, Jann S. Oakes and husband, John (Monk); four great-grandchildren; four step grandchildren; six step-great-grandchildren, along with many nieces and nephews.

The family received friends 2 to 3 p.m. on Sunday, February 17, 2013 at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, 230 North Second Avenue, Siler City. The funeral service followed at 3 p.m. in the Smith & Buckner Chapel with Rev. Jim Wall officiating. Burial followed at Chatham Memorial Park.

The family wishes to express a special thanks to caregivers Ann Brooks and Darleen Koons-Culberson for the constant and superior care over the past two years. Also, a special thanks to Dr. James Davis and Liberty Hospice.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to “Caregiver Fund” c/o Wells Fargo Bank, 413 North Second Avenue, Siler City, NC 27344.

J. H. “RED” BROWN
Mr. J. H. “Red” Brown, 86, of 338 Lewis Brown Road, Bennett, passed away Friday, February 15, 2013 at Chatham Hospital in Siler City.

Funeral services were conducted Monday, February 18, 2013 at 3 p.m. at Pleasant Grove Christian Church where he was a member with Rev. Mark Strickland officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery with military honors provided by the Randolph County Honor Guard.

Mr. Brown was a Randolph County native and a Veteran of WW II. He went in after the Hiroshima bombs. He was a member of the “Old Timers Bench Club” at Routh’s Grocery and had retired from Glendale Hosiery in Siler City. He was an avid collector of antiques, loved to bird hunt, and garden. He not only loved to garden, but he loved to share his garden. Mr. Brown had a great love of music, directing the choir at his church for over 45 years. He served in many areas at his church including Sunday school teacher, church treasurer, and was a member of the Men’s Fellowship. Mr. Brown was preceded in death by his parents, the late Reuben J. and Melissa Purvis Brown, and brothers, Wilburn and Stacy.

Survivors include his wife, Jearline Hancock Brown of the home; daughters, Rita Brown Holt and husband Steve of Bear Creek, Angie Brown Fields and husband Buddy of Goldston; brother, Clifton Brown and wife Mary Etta of Siler City; sister, Leah B. Short and husband Clarence of Bennett; grandchildren, Beth H. Caviness and husband Jacob of Bennett, Joshua Holt of Bear Creek, Amber Fields of Goldston; and great-grandchildren, Reid Caviness and Anna Claire Caviness of Bennett.

Visitation was held Sunday, February 17, 2013 from 6-8 p.m. at Joyce-Brady Chapel, 3833 Chatham Street, Bennett, and other times at the home.

Joyce-Brady Chapel served the Brown family.

LACEY MAY CARPENTER
Sanford - Lacey May Carpenter, 20, passed away Monday (02-04-2013).

A Celebration of Life service will be held at 6 p.m. Thursday (02-07-2013) at San Lee Chapel.

Lacey attended Southern Lee High School.

Survivors include her mother, Leslie Andrews and step-father, Nathan of Mt. Pleasant, SC; father, Chad Carpenter of Norwood; siblings, Chelsey, twins, Bryce and Skyler Rae; maternal grandfather, Albert “Bompo” Gonzales; maternal grandmother Margaret; paternal grandparents, Papa Rick and Marlene.

Memorial contributions can be made to Rogers-Pickard Funeral Home to assist with expenses.

LAURA REBECCA HALL THOMAS
Laura Rebecca Hall Thomas, 78, of Olivia died Thursday, (02-07-2013) at her home.

The funeral was held Sunday, (02-10-2013), at Olivia Presbyterian Church at 2:30 p.m. with Rev. George Walton presiding. Burial followed at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Thomas was born in Lee County, on February 1, 1935, to the late Peter James Hall and Jennie Belle Cameron Hall. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband, A. G. Thomas; a daughter Brenda Thomas and brothers Franklin, Daniel James and John A Hall.

She is survived by her son, Larry Thomas of Olivia; daughters, Bonnie Duggan, Dale Spivey, both of Olivia, Betsy Wells of Sanford; brother, Paul Hall of Thomasville; sisters, Annie Belle Holt of High Point, Shirley Reinert of Thomasville; and five grandchildren.

WILLIAM J. DAVIS
William Joseph Davis, 64, died Tuesday, (02-05-2013), at UNC Hospital.

A memorial service was held Saturday (02-09-2013), at 7 p.m. at Hall-Wynne Funeral Home.

Bill was born March 20, 1948, to William and Bertha Casamento Davis in Washington, DC. He graduated from Norwich (NY) High School and attended Mohawk Valley Community College. He worked for the past 13 years at the Pittsboro Waste Water Treatment Plant. He is preceded in death by his parents William and Bertha, and a sister Alice Virginia.

Survivors include sons, Jason of North Prairie, WI, Ryan of Madison, WI; brothers, Bernard Davis of Vestal, NY, John Davis of Clifton Park NY; sisters, Mary O’Hearn of Tampa Florida, Barbara Dunning of Weedsport, NY, Gloria Pricci of Sterling VA; and one step-grandson.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the Disabled American Veterans are encouraged.

RONALD LEE FENTON
Ronald Lee Fenton, 47, of Sanford died Sunday, (02-10-2013), at his home.

Memorial services were held at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home on Wednesday, (02-13-2013) at 3 p.m. with Pastor Eugene Powers officiating.

He was born in Columbia, Missouri on May 2, 1965 to Elaine Sexton Biggs of Columbia, Missouri and the late Richard Lee Fenton. He was an automotive manager for Perry Brothers Tire Service in Sanford.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Phillips Fenton; mother and step-father, Elaine and Robert Biggs; brother, Rick Fenton of Columbia, MO; sister, DeAnn Fenton Mooney of O’Fallon, IL.; and step-brother, Bobby Biggs of High Rolls, NM.

NANCY B. NOYES

Nancy Brown Noyes, 66, of Siler City, died Friday, (02-08-2013) at First Health Moore Regional Hospital in Pinehurst.

Funeral services were held at 1 p.m. Monday, (02-11-2013), at Loflin Funeral Home Chapel, Ramseur, with Rev. Russell Brownsworth officiating. Burial followed at Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, Bennett.

Nancy was a Chatham County native, a member of Mt. Zion United Methodist Church, and a retired beautician. She was preceded in death by her parents, Paul and Alice Scott Brown, and brother, Wayne Brown.

Survivors include a daughter, Marlo Cox Williams of Siler City; son, Barry James Cox, of Siler City; sister, Patsey Sanders of Seagrove; brother, Donald R. Brown, of Bennett; and three grandchildren.

Memorials may be made to Mt Zion United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, c/o Linda Brown, 6812 Joe Branson Road, Bennett, NC 27208.

LUCY HELEN WHEELER PHILLIPS
Mrs. Lucy Helen Wheeler Phillips, 89, of Sanford, died Friday, (02-08-2013) at Sanford Health & Rehabilitation Center.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, (02-12-2013) at 6 p.m. at Bridges-Cameron Funeral Home.

She was born in Franklin County on April 14, 1923 to the late Henry Harvey Wheeler and Lucy Wheeler. She was also preceded in death by her husband Ernest Bonoster Phillips.

Survivors include a son, Ernest Phillips of Sanford; daughters, Beverly Davis of Fayetteville, Peggy Dalghren of Florida; six grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren; and several great-great-grandchildren.

ETHEL PUGH BALDWIN
Mrs. Ethel Pugh Baldwin of Pittsboro died Sunday, (01-20-2013) at her home.

Funeral services were held Saturday (01-26-2013) at Mitchell Chapel AMEZ Church, with Rev. James Davis III officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

She retired from Boling Chair Company

Survivors include her children, Lynn Baldwin, Jr., Herman L. Baldwin, H. Clifton Baldwin, Genis E. Baldwin, Pamela A. Baldwin, Vernon G. Baldwin, Dr. Phillip M. Baldwin, R. Samuel Baldwin; siblings, Virginia Degraffenredt, Mabel Marsh, Odell Pugh, Jr., Ernest Pugh; eight grandchildren, eight step-grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

WILMA GRAY BURNS HEARN
Mrs. Wilma Gray Burns Hearn, 85, died Thursday (02-07-2013) at the Laurels of Chatham.

The celebration of life services was held at 2 p.m. Sunday (02-10-2013) at Gum Springs Baptist Church, with interment following in the church cemetery.

Mrs. Hearn was born August 7, 1927 in Chatham County, the daughter of Garland Burns and Kate Brown Burns. Mrs. Hearn was a homemaker, but had also worked at UNC Hospital, as well as providing home health care. She was a member of Gum Springs Baptist Church.

Survivors include sons, Jerry Long of Chatham County, Stanley Richard Long of Garner, Johnny Allen Hearn of Durham; daughters, Cindy Gray Hearn Wadsworth of Manhattan, KS, Garleen Renee Hearn of Jacksonville, FL; nine grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren.

Mrs. Hearn was preceded in death by her parents; brothers, Graham Garfield Burns, Clayton Brown Burns, David Dodson Burns; sister, Hazel Burns Farrell; two grandchildren and a great-grandchild.

MARY FLORENCE JOHNSON SCOTT
Mrs. Mary Florence Johnson Scott, 87, formerly of Bear Creek, died Monday, (02-11-2013) at Siler City Center.

Graveside services will be conducted Thursday, (02-14-2013) at 2 p.m. at Brush Creek Baptist Cemetery with Rev. Don Davis officiating.

Mrs. Scott was born in Richmond County and had worked in poultry processing.

Survivors include daughters, Edna Conoly of Bear Creek, Emma Smith of Moncure; sons, David Lee Scott of Sanford, Colon Scott, Jr. of Gulf, James Allen Scott of White Hill; eleven grandchildren and 23 great-grandchildren.

Visitation was held Wednesday, (02-13-2013) from 6-8 p.m. at Joyce-Brady Chapel and other times at the home. Offer

IN LOVING MEMORY OF GLORAS HAYES PICKARD
Gloras H. Pickard, 93, entered into eternal rest February 1, 2013. She lived in Siler City since 1957 before moving to Sanford in the late 90s.

Her survivors include daughters, Gloras Elizabeth Dawson of Myrtle Beach, SC and Alice Bruton Wieland of North Myrtle Beach, SC. She has five grandchildren and six great-grandchildren. Surviving sisters are Betty Hayes and Danny Furr, both in Wilmington.

Private memorial services will be held with immediate family at a later date this month.

JOHNSIE BROOKS ELMORE
Johnsie Brooks Elmore, 93, of Bear Creek died Wednesday, February 6, 2013 at Siler City Care & Rehabilitation.

Mrs. Elmore was born in Chatham County on April 6, 1919, the daughter of Herbert Lee and Laudis (Fox) Brooks. She was a member of Bear Creek Baptist Church where she was a member of the Adult Sunday School Class and the WMU. She worked in the cafeteria at Chatham Central High School and had been a cook at Harpers Crossroads Seafood Restaurant.

Johnsie enjoyed working in her flowers and spending time at the beach. She was preceded in death by her husband, C. Hoyt Elmore; sons, Joseph D. Elmore and Bobby L. Elmore; her parents; brothers, Everette and Lendon Brooks; sisters, Martha Ann Moffitt and Mattie Lewis Beal.

She is survived by one son, Billy H. Elmore and wife, Sara of Siler City; sisters, Bertha B. Dowd of Siler City, Mary Kate B. Gunter of Siler City; brother: Howard Brooks of Siler City; daughter-in-law, Joyce Hash Elmore of Bear Creek; grandsons, Craig, Timmy, Robbie, Richie, Chuck, Anthony and Andy Elmore; thirteen great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

The family received friends Saturday, February 9, 2013 from 11:45 a.m. – 12:45 p.m. at Bear Creek Baptist Church, 1278 Bonlee-Carbonton Road, Bear Creek. The funeral was held Saturday, February 9, 2013 at 1 p.m. at Bear Creek Baptist Church with Rev. Bob Wachs and Rev. Troy Johnson officiating. Burial followed in the church cemetery.

Smith & Buckner Funeral Home assisted the family.

SARAH FRANCES DIXON WHITE
Mrs. Sarah Frances Dixon White, 78, of Sanford, died Monday, February 11, 2013 at the Cleveland Regional Medical Center in Shelby, NC.

Mrs. White was born August 17, 1934, in Siler City, to the late Wade and Myrtle Dixon. She was preceded in death by her loving husband MDG (Retired), Charlie Luther White.

She is survived by her three daughters, Phyllis Ann Paysour and husband George of Shelby, Deborah Lynne Frazier and husband Chuck of Fayetteville, Sandra Kay Howells and husband Robert of Sanford; three sisters, Laura Carlton of Siler City, Emogene Gaines of Sanford, and Linda Eller of Mount Holly; six grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.

Visitation will be at Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City, on Thursday, February 14, 2013 from 7 to 9 p.m.

Graveside services will be at Oakley Baptist Church, Siler City, at 11 a.m., Friday, February 15, 2013. Arrangements are by Smith & Buckner Funeral Home, Siler City.
