Mr. George F. Moffitt
PLEASANT GARDEN - Mr. George Freeman Moffitt, 77, of 2020 Neelley Road died Friday, Nov. 7, 1997, at Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital.
Born Aug. 25, 1920, in Chatham County, he was the husband of Mrs. Mabel Moffitt, who died in 1987. He was the son of Mr. Braudy Moffitt and Mrs. Mamie Lloyd Moffitt, both deceased. He was retired from Lorillard Tobacco Co. and was a member of American Legion Post No. 53. He was of the Baptist faith.
Survivors include two sisters, Mrs. Ralph (Betty) Oldham of Oklahoma City, Mrs. Tom (Aubrey) Benson of St. Louis; and other relatives of Burlington.
A graveside service will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Forest Lawn Cemetery.
The family will be at Forbis and Dick North Elm Chapel form 7 to 8:30 this evening, and at other times at the home.
Memorials may be made to a charity of choice.
Mr. Charles Wellons Sr.
ALAMANCE - Mr. Charles Wesley Wellons Sr., 70, of 2957 Elder Lane died at 1:25 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after eight months of failing health and a critical illness of three weeks.
A Goldsboro native, he was the husband of Mrs. Emma Sharpe Wellons, who survives, and the son of Mr. William E. Wellons and Mrs. Mammie Dickerson Wellons, both deceased. A Kayser-Roth employee for 37 years, he was a U.S. Navy veteran of World War II and a member of Trinity Worship Center.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include three sons, Mr. Wesley Wellons Jr. of Alamance, Mr. Gene Wellons of Snow Camp and Mr. Barry Wellons of Elon College; two sisters, Ms. Annie Eanes of Elon College and Ms. Elizabeth 'Lib' Bullock of Raleigh; two brothers, Mr. Winford Wellons of Alamance and Mr. Wilbert Wellons of Goldsboro; six grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters, Ms. Irene Hall and Ms. Blanche Roney; and one brother, Mr. Hubert Wellons.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Trinity Worship Center by the Rev. Darrell Cox, pastor. Burial will be in Alamance Memorial Park. The body will remain at Lowe Funeral Home until taken to the church 30 minutes before the service.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 tonight at the funeral home and at other times at the home.

Miss Anne Collins
BURLINGTON - Miss Anne Marie Elizabeth Collins, 25, of 2304 Hoskins Drive died at 3:30 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, 1997, in an automobile accident in Chatham County.
A Mineola, N.Y., native, she was the daughter of Mr. Paul A. Collins Jr. and Ms. Barbara Jean Litterelle Collins, who survive. A 1990 graduate of Williams High School, she was formerly a nail technician with Barnwell and Co. and Michael Dawns Hair Studio in Graham and was employed by Replacements Ltd. in Greensboro. She was Catholic.
Survivors other than her mother of the home and father of Mineola, include her maternal grandmother, Mrs. Maryann Litterelle of Mineola; and her paternal grandmother, Mrs. Lucyle Keller Collins of Seminole, Fla.
The funeral will be conducted Thursday morning through Cassiday Funeral Home in Mineola. Burial will be in Holy Rood Cemetery in Westbury, N.Y.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 9 Tuesday evening at Lowe Funeral Home and from 7 to 9 Wednesday evening at the Cassiday Funeral Home. The body will remain at Lowe Funeral Home until being taken to Mineola.

Mr. Roy C. Grinstead
HILLSBOROUGH - Mr. Roy Clifton Grinstead, 79, of 402 Lipscomb Grove Church Road died at 6:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, 1997, at Durham Regional Hospital.
A Person County native, he was the husband of Mrs. Minnie Harris Grinstead, who survives, and the son of Mr. Charles Clifton Grinstead and Mrs. Tencie Dixon Grinstead, both deceased. A U.S. Army veteran, he was retired from Burlington Industries and was also a farmer. He was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home include three brothers, Mr. Joe Grinstead of Snow Camp, Mr. Benny Grinstead of Efland and Mr. Bedford 'Dick' Grinstead of Graham; four sisters, Ms. Violet Gray and Ms. Mildred Mayse, both of Durham, Ms. Mary Jane Taylor of Hurdle Mills and Ms. Bobbie Overcash of Graham.
The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Burchwood Cemetery Annex by the Rev. Jim Shaw.

Mr. Douglas N. Smith
MEBANE - Mr. Douglas Nelson Smith, 43, of 1608 Sykes Road died at 11:29 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, 1997, at North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem from injuries sustained in an accident.
Funeral arrangements by McClure funeral service in Mebane are incomplete.
Mrs. Lois Mize Holt
BURLINGTON - Mrs. Lois Mize Holt, 90, of 2903 Milton Holt Lane died at 10:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 8, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after two weeks of failing health.
A Catawba County native, she was the wife of Mr. Roy B. Holt, who survives, the daughter of Mr. Robert L. Mize and Mrs. Carrie Shook Mize, both deceased. She was a member of the Episcopal Church of the Holy Comforter and attended St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Haw River. She was a member of Modern Woodmen of America for more than 50 years.
Survivors other than her husband of the home include three daughters, Mrs. Grady 'Shirley' Fonville and Mrs. Elizabeth Anne Maynard, both of Graham, and Mrs. Jean Turner of Manquin, Va.; one son, Mr. Roy Milton 'Butch' Holt of the home; one sister, Miss Ruth Mize of Greensboro; and one half brother, Mr. Robert Mize; seven grandchildren and seven great grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Miss Edith Merle Mize; and four brothers, Mr. Charlie Eugene Mize, Mr. Edward Laray Mize, Mr. Hugh C. Mize and Mr. Joseph Edward Mize.
The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Bellemont United Methodist Church cemetery by the Rev. Samuel K. Frazier, Vicar, St. Andrew's Episcopal Church in Haw River.
The family will receive friends from 6 to 8 tonight at Rich and Thompson Funeral Home in Graham and at other times at the home.

Mrs. Clarice S. Sutton
HIGH POINT - Mrs. Clarice Sartin Sutton, 92, of 201 Greensboro Road died at 12:40 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, 1997, at the Presbyterian Home of High Point.
An Alamance County native, she was the daughter of Mr. William C. Sartin and Mrs. Georgia Vincent Sartin, both deceased. She was a retired office manager of Sunlight Laundry and Cleaners in Lexington and was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Lexington.
Survivors include a daughter, Mrs. Jerrell Ann Gibson of Lexington; one son, Mr. Robert S. Sutton of Hilton Head Island, S.C.; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four sisters, Ms. Kathleen Blanchard, Ms. Marie Blanchard, Ms. Lucille Garrison and Ms. Gladys Sartin; and a brother, Mr. Moses Sartin.
The graveside service will be conducted at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Stoney Creek Presbyterian Church cemetery by the Rev. Rick Wurst, pastor.
There will be no visitation. The body will remain at Lowe Funeral Home in Burlington until being taken to the cemetery for the service.

Mr. Clarence H. Allred
BURLINGTON - Mr. Clarence H. Allred, 76, of 1817 Bellemont-Alamance Road, died at 11:01 a.m. Monday, Nov. 10, 1997, at Alamance Regional Medical Center after two years of failing health.
A native of Orange County, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Jacqueline 'Jackie' Isley Allred and the son of Mr. Thomas Lacy Allred and Mrs. Melinda Kate Shoffner Allred, both deceased. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II. He was the retired president of Allred Sock and Knitting Machine Inc. He was a member of Bellemont United Methodist Church and attended Antioch Baptist Church.
Survivors include two daughters, Mrs. Ernest (Judy) Pruitt of Burlington and Mrs. Jack (Ann) Holsonback Jr. of Birmingham, Ala.; a son, Mr. A. Dean Allred of Burlington; two brothers, Mr. Jack Allred of Whitsett and Mr. Charles Allred of Burlington; and four grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by two sisters, Mrs. Nan Robertson and Mrs. Edith Williams.
The funeral will be conducted at 2 p.m. Wednesday at Bellemont United Methodist Church by the Rev. Jeff Roberts. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The family will be at Rich and Thompson Mortuary in Burlington from 6 to 8 this evening and at other times at the home.

Mr. Douglas N. Smith
MEBANE - Mr. Douglas Nelson Smith, 43, of 1608 Sykes Road, died at 11:29 a.m. Sunday, Nov. 9, 1997, at the North Carolina Baptist Hospital in Winston-Salem.
Born Oct. 5, 1954, in Alamance County, he was the husband of Mrs. Dee Farrell Smith, who survives, and the son of Mr. Edgar A. Smith, who survives, and the late Mrs. Annie Duel Thomas Smith. He was a truck driver for Chandler Concrete Company and a member of Salem United Methodist Church.
Survivors other than his wife of the home and father of Mebane include a daughter, Ms. Wendy Sykes Blalock of Mebane; three sons, Mr. E.C. Sykes, Mr. Jeff H. Sykes and Mr. Jon Sykes, all of Mebane; a sister, Ms. Judy Bradshaw of Mebane; two brothers, Mr. Mike Smith and Mr. Steve Smith, both of Haw River; and eight grandchildren.
The funeral will be conducted at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Salem United Methodist Church by the Rev. Benji Kelley, pastor. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
