Bruce C. Coker
Dudley — Bruce C. Coker, 70, of 236 Eagles Nest Road, died early Monday morning, September 27 at his home.
He was the son of the late Leon and Carma Holmes Coker and brother of the late Nelson Coker and Alton Ray Coker. He was a retired employee of Goldsboro Milling Company.
A funeral service was held on Tuesday, September 28 at 7 p.m. from the chapel of Tyndall Funeral in Mount Olive with the Rev. Blane Smith officiating. The family received friends following the service
Burial was at 10 a.m. on Wednesday, September 29 in the Seven Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery in Seven Springs.
Coker is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Tammy C. and Jeff Bova of Dudley; two grandchildren, Heather Bova and Kristen Bova of Dudley; two sisters, Christine Coker Greene of Mount Olive and Aileen Coker Hamm of Rocky Mount; and two brothers, Jimmy Coker of Dudley and Melvin Coker of Mount Olive .
Vivian Bass Merritt
CHEVERLY, MD — Mrs. Vivian Bass Merritt, formerly of Mount Olive, NC died Monday, September 27 at Prince George ’s Community Hospital in Cheverly, MD.
She was the widow of Nathan Merritt and the daughter of the late Jessie and Lillian Carr Bass. She attended and was graduated from Carver High School in Mount Olive .

Henry H. Whaley
GRIFTON — Henry Harding Whaley, 83, of 6202 Whaley Road, Grifton, died Monday, September 20 at Lenoir Memorial Hospital in Kinston.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Mable Whaley; a daughter, Brenda Beamon; a sister, Barbara Jones; a brother, Roy Whaley; and a grandson. Whaley was a member of Grifton Pentecostal Holiness Church .
A funeral service was held Friday, September 24 at 11 a.m. from the chapel of Howard & Carter Funeral Home in Kinston with the Rev. Jobie Heath officiating. Burial followed at Pleasant Hill Christian Church Cemetery in Jones County .
He is survived by three daughters, Renee Foley of Wendell, Judi Brighthust of Pink Hill and Trina Kite of Kinston; one son, Wade Whaley of Grifton; one stepson, Ray Cannon of Carrolton, Ky.; three sisters, Myrtle Heath of Richlands, Dorothy Gaskins of Kinston and Irene Miller of Jefferson; one brother, Orvis Whaley of Jason; 14 grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren.
Geraldine P. Ham
Geraldine Elizabeth Peed Moore Ham, 90, of 1625 Old Mount Olive Highway died Friday night, September 24 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro .
Born in Martin County, she was the daughter of the late Thomas W. and Mabel Peed and was the widow of Grover Moore and Luther Ham. Formerly of Williamston and Robersonville, she operated several stores and cafes.
A memorial service was held Sunday, September 26 at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home at Goldsboro . The Rev. Rose Hicks officiated.
She is survived by a son, John Wilson Moore of Grifton; two daughters, Virginia H. Jones of Smithfield, VA and Faye H. Talton of Goldsboro; 25 grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

Thomas Carlton Parks
Thomas Carlton Parks, 56, of Zion Church Rd., Mount Olive, died Friday, September 24. He was a millwright worker with Prestage Farms.
A funeral service was held Sunday, September 26 at 3 p.m. from the chapel of Tyndall Funeral Home with the Rev. Cliff Harwood officiating. Burial followed in Pineview Cemetery .
Parks is survived by his wife, Barbara Cox Parks; his mother, Dollie Mae Hill Strickland of Nashville; one son and daughter-in-law, Michael Carlton and Paula Parks of Mount Olive; one daughter, Angela P. Remines of Seven Springs; one sister, Annette Owens of Maccelsfield; and three grandchildren, Justin, Brittany, and Emily Remines.
He was preceded in death by his father, J.C. Parks, and one brother, Billy Ray Parks.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society.

James E. “Eddy” Strickland, 58, died Sunday, November 21 at Kitty Askins Hospice in Goldsboro after a battle with melanoma skin cancer.
A funeral service was held Wednesday, November 24 at 2 p.m. from the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home at Goldsboro . The Rev. Sherwood Lassister officiated. Burial was in Emmaus Baptist Church Cemetery at Dudley .

Goldsboro — Hilda Gray Bass Beltman, 79, of 2710 Langston Dr. died Monday, November 22 at Wayne Memorial Hospital . Born in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late William Leslie and Ellen Pearl Johnson Bass.
A graveside funeral service was held Wednesday, November 24 at 11 a.m. from Wayne Memorial Park with the Capt. John Leidy of the Salvation Army officiating.
Arrangements were handled by Shumate-Faulk Faulk Funeral Home & Crematory.

Linda Starnes Cutlip, 61, of 547 Pineview Cemetery Rd. died Sunday, November 21 at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro . She was born
in Coddle Creek to Carl Starnes and the late Annie Arlene Craig Starnes.
A funeral service was Wednesday, November 24 at 2 p.m. from Trinity Baptist Church . The Rev. Jack Sauls officiated. Burial was in Pineview Cemetery .

in Wagram on November 7, 1922 and was the last of eight siblings.
A funeral service was held from Asbury United Methodist Church on November 13 at 11 a.m. Burial was in Jacksonville Memorial Gardens Cemetery with Masonic Rites and military honors.
