Mt. Olive - Ms. Geraldine Barksdale of 412 S. Churst St. died Friday, May 24, 2013 at Kitty Askins Hospice Center.
She was the daughter of the late Maryland Edwards Jr. and Odessa Powell Edwards and was born
on September 17, 1952 in Duplin County.
Life Celebration Service will be held Saturday, June 1, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Best Chapel FWB Church with Rev. Clifton Jones Jr., officiating. Burial will follow in Cobbs Cemetery.
She is survived by her husband Charles Barksdale; loving memories will be cherished by her children, LaShonda Barksdale of Goldsboro, Devona Stokes of Mt. Olive and Travis Barksdale of Philadelphia, PA; three grandchildren; four sisters, Gloria Armwood of Mt. Olive, Mamie Smith of Goldsboro, Mary Harper and Deborah Bell of Dudley; two brothers, Ronnie Moore of Laurinburg and Ricky Moore of Goldsboro and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Viewing will be held Friday, May 31, 2013 from 3:00-7:00 p.m., at Garris Funeral Home Chapel. The family will receive friends from 6:00-7:00 p.m. and at other times at 126 E. Main St., Mt. Olive.
Mary Shavers Armwood
(January 9, 1938 - May 22, 2013)
Faison - Mrs. Mary Shavers Armwood died Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Wake Medical Center.
She is the daughter of the late Irene Smith and was born
in Duplin Co. on January 9, 1938.
Homegoing Service will be held Friday, May 31, 2013, 2:00 p.m., at Smith Chapel FWB Church with Rev. Antonio Blow, officiating. Burial will follow in Cobbs Cemetery.
She leaves to cherish her loving memories to her husband, Thomas Armwood of the home; two granddaughters, Christy Brewington Flowers and Mary Brewington of Mt. Olive; five grandchildren; son-in-law, Christopher Brewington of Mt. Olive and a host of other relatives and friends.
She has been reunited with her daughter, Clarice Brewington.
Viewing will be held Thursday, May 30, 2013 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at Garris Funeral Home Chapel. The family will be present from 6:00-7:00 p.m. to receive friends.
Inez H. Royall
(Died May 16, 2013)
Mt. Olive - Mrs. Inez H. Royall of 208 Maple St. died Thursday, May 16, 2013 at Wayne Memorial Hospital.
She was born
July 27, 1931 in Wayne County, the daughter of the late Annie Marie Holliday Lawson. Inez Royall was married to the late Granger B. Royall.
She was a devoted member of the Mother's Board, Pastor's Aide and Mission Circle of Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church in Mount Olive.
She is survived by four daughters, Doris R. Turner of the home, Cassandra R. Potter of Durham, NC, Wanda B. Royall of Brooklyn, NY and Shelia R. Bennett (Fred) of Durham, NC; three grandchildren, Rachford Potter Jr. of Queens, NY, Twinetta Taylor of Rockville, MD and Kamal Bennett of Durham, NC; one great grandchild, D'Andre Taylor of Rockville, MD; six brothers, James Holliday (Lauren) of Mount. Olive, Jimmy Holliday, Thomas Holliday and Charles Holliday of Brooklyn, NY, Kenneth Holliday and Bobby Lawson of Goldsboro; two brothers who preceded her in death, David Holliday (Annie Mae) and Earl Stallings (Marie); a devoted Godson, James Carlton and a devoted Goddaughter, Joyce Bryant; a host of cousin, nieces, nephews and friends.
Viewing will be held Monday, May 20, 2013 from 3:00-7:00 p.m. at the funeral home. A graveside service will be held at Carver Cemetery at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2013 with Pastor Larry B. Faison, presiding.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Mount Gilead Missionary Baptist Church in her memory.
Alfonza G. Bizzell
(March 3, 1961 - May 11, 2013)
Albertson - Mr. Alfonza G. Bizzell, 52 of 117 Seth Turner Rd. died Saturday, May 11, 2013 at Vidant Duplin Hospital.
Born in Baltimore, MD., he is the son of Doris Branch Bizzell and the late Vance Bizzell.
Life Celebration Service will be held Thursday, May 26, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at Salem Chapel Freewill Baptist Church, Pink Hill with the Elder McArthur Farrow officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Branch Cemetery.
He leaves to cherish loving memories to his mother, Doris Bizzell of the home; one sister, Miriam Robinson of Baltimore, MD; two brothers, Vance Oliver Bizzell of Albertson and Minso Bizzell of Faison and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.
A time of viewing and reflection will be held Wednesday from 4:00 -6:00 p.m. at the Garris Funeral Home Chapel and one hour prior to funeral service on Thursday at the church.
George Dewitt

Warsaw - Mr. George Dewitt, 72 of 1773 US Hwy 117 S. died Monday, January 7, 2013 at his home.
Born in Duplin County, he is the son of the late Thomas Dewitt and Annie Mae Hodges Dewitt.
Homegoing services will be held Saturday, January 12, 2013 at 11:00 a.m. at First Baptist Church of Warsaw with Rev. Theodore Thomas officiating. Burial will follow at Devotional Gardens in Warsaw.
Mr. George Dewitt leaves to cherish his memories, one daughter, Debora (Robert)Gibbs of Camden, South Carolina; one grandson, Tyler Gibbs of Camden, South Carolina; one brother, Leroy(Christine) Dewitt; of Warsaw; two sisters, Retha Mae Lowe and Annie Ruth Carlton both of Warsaw; two sisters in-law, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends including a special friend, Helen Lowe.

Born in Duplin Co., he is the son of the late James Winston and Luberta Hodges.
Homegoing Service will be held Thursday, January 10, 2013 at 2:00 p.m. at Prayer of Faith Church with Bishop Chester Aycock, officiating. Burial will follow in Carver Cemetery.
His love and legacy will forever be cherished by his wife, Delores Powell Hodges of the home; one daughter, Frances H. Born in Duplin Co., he is the son of the late Ben and Lucy Miller Garner.
Life Celebration Service will be held Sunday, January 5, 2012 at 2:00 p.m. at Smith Chapel Missionary Baptist Church, Warsaw. Rev. Herman Bell will officiate. Burial will be held at a later date.
He leaves to cherish loving memories to his wife, Mattie Sutton Garner; three daughters, Minister JoAnn Garner, Angela Denise Garner and Evangelist Joyce Ann(Andre)Garner Moses of Goldsboro; one brother, Ben Garner Jr. of Baltimore, MD; two sisters, Carolyn McNeill of Baltimore, MD and Christine Parks of LaGrange, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.

He was born
January 21, 1921 to his parents, the late Jim and Jane Flowers Leach in Wayne County.
Homegoing Service will be held Thursday, January 3, 2013 at 1:00 p.m. at St. Luke Disciple Church of Christ with Elder L. D. Melvin, officiaing. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park, Dudley.
He is survived by his wife, Georgia Mae Leach of the home; two sons, James Leach of the home and Kenneth Leach of Mt. Olive and several nieces and nephews.
Viewing will be held Wednesday, January 2, 2013 from 3:00-7:00 with the family present from 6:00-7:00 p.m. at Garris Funeral Home.

Born in Duplin Co., he is the son of the late Frank McIver Sr. and Minnie F. Miller.

He leaves to cherish loving memories to his wife, Joeanne Peterson McIver of Kenansville, four sisters, Mildred J. Platt of Washington, DC, Elmiree McIver of Kenansivlle, Peggy S.
