Darrell W. Pearson
March 05, 1935 - September 08, 2012

Mr. Darrell W. Pearson, 77, passed away peacefully on September 8, 2012 in Goldsboro. Born March 5, 1935, Darrell was the son of the late Richard Lafayette and Grace Ward Pearson. Darrell served in the United States Air Force and retired after 24 years, having served several tours of duty during the Vietnam War. Darrell was stationed at several Air Force bases in the United States and around the world including Berlin, Germany and Okinawa, Japan, where he met his wife of 54 years, Sachiko K. Pearson. Darrell retired from the Air Force as a Senior Master Sergeant, and he was a member of the Air Force Retiree Association (Alliance for Retired Persons). He continued working after his retirement from the Air Force with Carolina Phone and Alarms.

A graveside service will be held on Tuesday at Wayne Memorial Park at 2:00 P.M. with full military honors.

In addition to his wife, Darrell is survived by a son James A. (Drew) Pearson and wife Donna of Raleigh; a daughter, Carolyn P. Braswell and husband, Jim of Rosewood; and four grandchildren, Kyle A. Pearson, Matthew A. Pearson, Meredith E. Braswell, and James W. Braswell III.

In addition to his parents, Darrell is preceded in death by a sister, Betty J. Patterson and two brothers, William A. Gaines and Richard L. Pearson Jr.

CMSgt. (Ret.) Mark J. Colby, U.S.A.F.
October 16, 1962 - September 05, 2012

CMSgt. (Ret.) Mark J. Colby, U.S.A.F., 49, passed away Wednesday night at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. He was born icon in Bow, New Hampshire to Constance Smart Colby and the late Halstead Colby and was married to Shirley Roberson Colby.

Private Funeral Services will be held at a later date.

Pauline L. Wiggins
June 20, 1918 - September 01, 2012

Pauline Langston Daniels Wiggins, 94, passed away Saturday morning at Wayne Memorial Hospital. Born in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Cullen and Minnie Pike Langston and wife of the late Willie Wiggins and Luther Daniels.

Funeral Services will be held Sunday at 3 p.m. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with Pastor Jim Willoughby officiating. Burial will follow at Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Pauline was the oldest attending member of Emmaus Baptist Church and a member of the Johnny Sasser Sunday School Class.

She is survived by three step-sons, James Wiggins and wife, Gloria of Goldsboro, Dick Daniels of Dudley, and L.J. Daniels of Concord; three step-daughters, Doris Daniels of Mt. Olive, Joyce Rhodes and husband, Dan of Nahunta, and Betty Daughtry of Goldsboro; a nephew, George Barnes, of Aiken, SC; her special family, Ray and Doris Boyette of Goldsboro and the Staff and friends of Woodard’s Care; an “adopted” daughter, Joyce M. Barnes of Goldsboro; a special “adopted” granddaughter, Teressa Mills of Goldsboro; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be sent to Emmaus Baptist Church, 700 Emmaus Church Road, Dudley, NC 28333.

Herbert B. Grady
March 27, 1963 - August 27, 2012

Herbert Benson Grady, 49, of Dudley, North Carolina passed away August 27, 2012. His parents are HB and Angeline Oliver Grady of Dudley, North Carolina. He was born icon on March 27, 1963. In 1975, Herbert relocated with his family from Linden, New Jersey to Dudley, North Carolina. He graduated from Southern Wayne Senior High School in 1982. He was a graduate of East Carolina University with a Degree in Political Science. He was a true “Pirates Alumnus”. Herbert retired form Wayne County Public Schools due to his illness.

In addition to his parents, Herbert is survived by a sister, Inonda Grady King and brother in law Danny King. He leaves behind several aunts; Annie Lois Parott, Dorothy Jean (Ceasar) Kelly, Clara Markham, Charlotte Gray, Annie McCoy, Sue Grady, Daisy Grady, Cleo Grady, Shirley Grady, and Elise Grady. He leaves behind three uncles: Stephen (Gerald) Grady, Cleo Grady, and Ronald McCoy (Katie) McCoy. Two great aunts: Dora Maye and Readdie Armwood. Uncle Herb as he was called, also leaves a host of nieces and nephews.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday at 11:00 A.M. at Best Grove Missionary Baptist Church.

In Lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to Best Grove Missionary Baptist Church, 1065 Tommy’s Road, Goldsboro, NC 27530.

Noven J. Mathis
August 14, 2012 - August 27, 2012

Infant Noven Juelz Mathis passed away Monday at Vident Medical Center in Greenville.

A graveside service will be held Friday at 11:00am at Wayne Memorial Park.

Noven is survived by his mother, Cedariah Mathis.

Sara H. Gwaltney
September 26, 1916 - August 27, 2012

Sara Dean Herring Gwaltney, age 95, passed away Monday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Born in Wayne County, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Estelle Exum Herring and was married the late Javy Rudolph Gwaltney in 1934. She was also preceded in death by her brothers, Jack, Bruce, Tom (Kenneth) and Paul Herring. She was a faithful member of Dudley Christian Church and graduated from Goldsboro High School in 1933.

A service to celebrate the life of Mrs. Gwaltney will be held Wednesday at 7:00 pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with Rev. Blane Smith and Rev. Doug Dexter officiating. A graveside service will be held Thursday at 11:00 am at Wayne Memorial Park. Family members will greet friends Wednesday evening following the service at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home and at other times at the home of her daughter, Betty Martin, 216 Coral Drive, Dudley, NC.

Mrs. Gwaltney is survived by her sons, Javy and Eva Gwaltney of Sylvester, GA, Andy and Sherry Gwaltney of Pinehurst, NC; daughters, Betty R. Martin of Dudley, NC, Joyce and Garland Hardison of Plymouth, NC, Dean and Thomas Price of Dudley, NC, Nancy and Byron Dunn of Dalton, GA; a special niece, Delores and Manfred Hood of Grantham, NC; sister, Amy Daughtry of Goldsboro, NC; a brother Earl and Marie Herring of Goldsboro, NC; thirty four grandchildren; forty seven great grandchildren; twenty seven great great grandchildren; and one great great great grandchild.

Flowers are welcome and memorial gifts may be directed to the Dudley Christian Church, P.O. Box 859, Dudley, NC 28333.

March 22, 2001 - September 21, 2011

Beatrice Caruso Ulrich, age 83, died Wednesday at her residence. Born in Corona, NY, she was the daughter of the late John and Francesca Mazzola Caruso and wife of the late Heinz “Henry” Ulrich.

Graveside funeral services will be Tuesday at 2:00 pm at the Long Island National Cemetery in Farmingdale, NY.

Mrs. Ulrich is survived by a daughter.

The family is being served by Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.

Evelyn G. Warrick
January 07, 1935 - September 19, 2011

Evelyn Goodman Warrick, age 76, of Autryville, NC, died Monday at Sampson Regional Medical Center in Clinton. Born in Greenville, Florida, she was the daughter of the late Floyd H. and Emma Willis Goodman and wife of the late David “Toot” Warrick.

A funeral service will be held Thursday at 11:00am at Mt. Carmel Church of God of Prophecy in Autryville with Rev. Melvin Warrick and Bishop Warren Barfield officiating. Burial will follow in the Mt. Carmel Church Cemetery in Autryville. Family members will greet friends Wednesday evening from 6:00 until 8:00pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home in Goldsboro and from 10:00 until 11:00am at the church prior to the service on Thursday.

Evelyn is survived by three children, 11 grandchildren, and 20 great grandchildren.

Douglas Carl Vaughn, 59, of Goldsboro, passed away on Sunday evening at Wayne Memorial Hospital. He is the son of the late Jake and Mary Lou Vaughn, and was married to the late Anita Vaughn.

A graveside service will be held Saturday at 11:00 am at Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends Friday evening from 7-9pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.

Mr. Vaughn is survived by his son, Gary Vaughn and wife, Michelle of Las Vegas, NV; a daughter, Christy Vaughn and fiancé, Dwight of Goldsboro; a sister, Kathy Labadie and husband Joe of San Antonio, TX; five grand children, Joshua Novak, Emily Vaughn, Chloe Novak, Camron Vaughn, Avery Vaughn
