Dottie E. Underwood

Dottie Ellis Underwood, age 70, died Sunday evening at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Born in Halifax County, she was the daughter of the late Joe Tom Ellis and Pauline Cannon Ellis and wife of the late Thomas J. Underwood, Sr. She was also preceded in death by a son, Thomas J. Underwood, Jr., two brothers, Wayne Ellis and Joe Tom Ellis and two sisters, Lois E. Faison and Tootsie Allen.
A graveside funeral service will be held Wednesday at 11:00am at Wayne Memorial Park. Family members will greet friends Wednesday at the grave following the service and at other times will be at the home of her son, Glen and Rita Ferguson, 143 Old Vineyard Road, Goldsboro.
Mrs. Underwood is survived by her sons, Ted Gray Underwood and wife, Judy, Glen Wayne Ferguson and wife, Rita; two sisters, Mabel Allen and Claudia Spence; five grandchildren, Wendy U. Kelly, Chris Underwood, T.J. Underwood, III, Brandon Ferguson, LeeAnne Ferguson; five great grandchildren, Stormy Kelly, Danielle Ferguson, Tyler Underwood, Sawyer Underwood and Savannah Kelly; and her best friend, Joann.

Billy Bryant

Billy Bryant, age 69, of Dudley, died Sunday. He was a member of St. Mary Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a former member of the Wayne County Sheriff’s Department.
A service of Christian burial will be held Friday at 11:00 am at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Thomas P. Norris, O.S.F.S. officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.
Mr. Bryant is survived by his wife, Everlinda Bryant; two daughters, Theresa Bryant and Edwina Bryant both of the home; a sisters, Mary Mitchell of Montclair, NJ.
Family members will greet friends from 10:00 until 11:00 am at the funeral home on Friday.

Gilbert D. Warren
December 02, 1951 - October 02, 2011
Goldsboro - Gilbert David Warren, age 59, passed away Sunday morning at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Born in Manchester, CT, he was the son of the late David and Beverly Conner Warren and the husband of In Tok Kim.
He served in the US Navy for 22 years and was a member of the Retired Navy Submariners, DAV, Goldsboro Coin Club, and the Eat to Ride, Ride to Eat Gang.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two daughters and sons-in-law; Linda and Ian Benton of Colorado Springs, CO; and Susan and Jeffrey Turnage of Goldsboro, NC; and four grandchildren.
A memorial service will be held Wednesday at 5 pm at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with Rev. Tom Harper officiating. The family will greet friends after the service at their home.
In lieu of flowers the family suggests that memorials be sent to Kitty Askins Hospice Center, 107 Handley Park Ct., Goldsboro, NC 27534.

Adam D. Gurley
November 20, 1920 - September 25, 2011
Mt. Olive, NC - Adam Daniel “A.D.” Gurley, age 90, went to be with his Lord and Savior Sunday surrounded by his family at his home. He was the son of the late Debro and Nannie Hinson Gurley, and was married to Mollie Lane Gurley for 63 years. Mr. Gurley served as a medic in the United States Army Air Corp. in World War II, was a farmer, and had worked construction with T. A. Loving Inc. He was a member of Mt. Olive Presbyterian Church, Woodmen of the World, Mt. Olive Pickle Kickers, and also cooked lunches with Perry Hall for senior citizens on Wednesday’s at the church.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 1:00 P.M. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home with Revs. Steven Wicks, Chris Carlisle, and Doug Bartlett officiating. Committal will follow at Pineview cemetery. The family will receive friends Tuesday evening from 7-9 P.M. at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home.
In addition to his wife, Mr. Gurley is survived by a son and three daughters, John Gurley and wife, Barbie of Goldsboro, Peggy Kleinfelter and husband, Mike of Greenville, SC, Liz Mitchell of Raleigh, and Alice Ballew of Mt. Olive; grandchildren, Laura Riemensnider and husband, RJ, Adam Kleinfelter and wife, Brooke, Katherine Mitchell, Chris Gurley, Jordan Gurley, Amanda Creech, and Amy Creech; and numerous nieces and nephews who called him uncle “D”.

Donald James “Jamie” Beaman
December 04, 1964 - September 23, 2011
Donald James “Jamie” Beaman, age 46, of Dudley, died Friday. Born in Wayne County, he was the son of Donald Moore Beaman and Virnece Church Beaman of Dudley. He was a Master Welder and excellent mechanic.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, September 29th at 11:00am at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Blane Smith officiating. Burial will follow in Wayne Memorial Park.
In addition to his parents, Jamie is survived by three sons, Tyler Gregory Beaman of LaGrange, Jonathan Braxton Beaman and Ethan James Beaman both of Mount Olive; and a sister and brother in law, Jennifer Beaman Pippin and husband, Wes Stearns of Sherrills Ford, NC.
The family will greet friends Thursday at the graveside and at other times will be at the home of his parents.

Clover Diane Wilson Lancaster, 60, of 653 Davis Mill Road, died Tuesday at Kitty Askins Hospice Center. Born in Wayne Co., she was the daughter of the late Charlie and Retha Allen Wilson.
She was the wife of Bobby W. Lancaster and one daughter.

Norma Toler Williford, 73, of Goldsboro passed away at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. She was the daughter of the late George Ransom and Leona McFatter Toler, and was the wife of the late Randal Lee Williford.
A funeral service will be held at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home chapel on Wednesday at 11:00 AM with the Pastor Steve Singleton and Rev. Ira Williford officiating. Committal services will follow at Wayne Memorial Park. The family will receive friends on Tuesday evening from 7-9 PM at Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home, and at other times at the home of her daughter, Jackie West, 103 Pony Dr. Pikeville.
Mrs. Williford is survived by four daughters, Jackie West and husband, Ronnie of Pikeville, Pat Stewart and husband, Doug of Goldsboro, Rhonda Hawley and husband, Jason of Goldsboro, and Lori Ann Hatch and husband, Rex of Mt. Olive; grandchildren, Tammy and Joel Baker, Randy and Michelle West, Marsha and Michael White, Scott Holloman, Jessica Holloman, Patrick Holloman, Kristin Denning, Riley Hatch, Mindy and Cory Alexander, Chris and Jodie Smeal; great grandchildren, Brett Baker, Brandon Baker, Lee West, Jay Wiseman, Bradley White, Payton Spencer, Hayden Spencer, Alayna McCullough, Cory Alexander Jr., Noah Smeal; brothers, George Toler of Florida, George “Junior” Toler and wife Shirley of Goldsboro, and Bill Toler and wife Joyce of Princeton; and a sister, Barbara Murphy and husband Craig of Goldsboro.
In addition to her husband, Mrs. Williford was preceded in death by her daughter, Jeannie Smeal.

John Wray Slye
June 09, 1921 - January 16, 2011
John Wray Slye, age 89, of Dudley died Sunday at Wayne Memorial Hospital in Goldsboro. Born in Newport News, Va. he was the son of the late John Franklin and Ethel Morgan Slye and was the husband of Della S. Slye.
Being called to the ministry John pastored his first church in 1960 and dedicated his life to service in the International Pentecostal Holiness Church in several churches in North Carolina and in Washington, D.C. Previous to his last church he was pastor of Tabernacle in Goldsboro from 1982 until 1985 and retired from West Moreland Pentecostal Holiness Church in Wilson in 1987.
A Memorial Service will be held Saturday at 11:00 a.m. from the chapel of Shumate-Faulk Funeral Home in Goldsboro. The family will visit with friends at the Funeral Home one hour prior to the service and at other times at the home.
In addition to his wife John is survived by a son Edward W. Slye of Mesa, Arizona, a daughter Patricia Mae Slye Webster of Greensboro, North Carolina, 11 Grandchildren and 16 Great-Grandchildren.
