Mrs. Lou Anne Wiggs Hoy age 61 of Oak Island died Monday November 4, 2013 at SECU Hospice House, Bolivia.
Lou Anne was born
in Sacramento, Ca. on February 25, 1952 and was the daughter of Joe Wiggs of Burlington, NC and the late Martha Lazenby Wiggs. Survivors in addition to her father include her husband, Harold Hoy; two children, Leaf A. Hoy of Oak Island, Mary P. Hoy of Mt. Holly, NC; two grandchildren, Emily Anne Hoy and Aurelia Rose Hoy; a brother, Bill Wiggs of Frankfort, Ky.; a sister, Jane Wiggs Kilpatrick of Charlotte, NC.
Lou Anne lived in Valdosta, GA and Jacksonville, FL before moving with her family to Tifton, GA in 1960. She began playing the flute at age 10. By her junior year in high school she was first chair flute, piccolo, and oboe. In addition to her musical talents, she excelled as backstage manager of the high school drama club. She also lent her beautiful alto voice to the choirs at First Baptist in Tifton where she was baptized.
Lou Anne graduated from Tift County High School in Tifton in 1970. She went on to graduate from Cape Fear Tech and worked as a lab technician for NOAA in Rochester, NY; Blue Water Treatment Plant in Alexandria, VA; the EPA in Aurora, NC; and Pfizer Chemical in Southport.
She married Harold Hoy, Jr. on May 28, 1977, in a non-traditional, outdoor wedding on Oak Island by the marsh adjacent to the Intracoastal Waterway. Son, Leaf, arrived in 1978 followed by daughter, Mary, in 1980. Lou Anne shared her musical and artistic abilities with her children and supported their endeavors in music, pottery, singing, and music librarianship.
In her role as wife and mother, she embodied her musical soul, artistic spirit, and a loving heart to all she encountered. She relished her role as Mimi to her granddaughters who will remember their times sharing her glorious spirit as they colored, read pop-up books, shared meals and laughter together.
Lou Anne used her musical talents accompanying Pop in the church choir, was a pit musician supporting multiple area theatre groups, and as the piccolo soloist in the Brunswick Concert Band (BCB). Her work as the BCB music librarian was a passion for many years. She took the original concept the founding BCB members envisioned and would not let it die; revitalizing the original group several times. She aspired to bring music and fine arts to Brunswick County and kept the spirit of Kokopelli alive, letting the melody flow.
“Music speaks what cannot be expressed. Soothes the mind and gives it rest. Heals the heart and makes it whole. Flows from heaven to the soul.” -unknown
