Luke Stephen Phillips
Southport - Luke Stephen Phillips, born
March 29, 2013, died December 13, 2013, beloved and happy son of Seth and Katherine Phillips, and adored brother of Adeline Anne Phillips.
He is survived by his paternal grandparents, Charles and Deborah Phillips, and by his maternal grandfather, James Robert Jennings; by his five uncles and aunts; and by his paternal great-grandparents. Luke was preceded in death by his brother, James Robert “Bo” Phillips, and by his maternal grandmother, Anne Dunn Jennings.
A service with the family was held in memoriam in celebration of Luke’s resurrection life.
In lieu of flowers, Seth and Katherine request that gifts be made to The Adeline Anne Phillips College Fund, in care of Dr. Charles W. Phillips, The Maclellan Foundation, 820 Broad Street, Suite 300, Chattanooga, Tennessee 37402.
George Robert Latzy
Southport - George Robert Latzy, of Southport, NC, passed away Thursday, December 12, 2013.
He was born
to the late George A and Elizabeth Latzy, March 1, 1926, in Mingo Junction, Ohio. He was married to his beloved wife, Connie for 66 years and 11 months. George was a manager with the Ohio Bell Telephone Company for 42 years. He was passionate about history, particularly the Civil War and loved to visit battlefields. He also loved to read, ride his motorcycle, and had many hobbies including woodworking and pottery.
George is survived by his daughters, Victoria (Devone) Edge of Leland, NC and Jennifer (Greg) Entler of Columbus, Ohio. He is also survived by his beloved grandaughter Crystal Edge and his three grandsons, Aaron Edge and Adam and Eric Entler.
In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting that donations be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice and Life Care Center.
Friends may visit 10am Monday, December 16 at the Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral Home, 1411 N. Howe St. Southport, NC. A memorial service will follow at 11:00am.

Col. Charles Henry Sunder
Southport - Col. Charles Henry Sunder, US Army retired, age 87 of Southport, passed away on Friday, December 13, 2013. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Monday, December 16, 2013 at Peacock – Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service. The funeral mass will be held at 11:00 am on Tuesday, December 17, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Reverend Trent Watts officiating.
Helen Kolhonen
Southport - Helen Kolhonen, 94, of Southport, formerly of Simsbury, CT passed away peacefully Dec. 12, 2013. Born April 24, 1919, in Boston MA, she was preceded in death by her loving husband of 65 years, LTC “Kal” Kolhonen, USA, Ret.
As a military wife, Helen moved frequently but could instantly transform the newest quarters into a home. She excelled at fine sewing, baking, shopping and rocking babies.
She is survived by daughter Ellen Simon and husband Steve of Southport, treasured granddaughters Susan Simon of Montpelier, Va. and Paige Clark and husband LCDR Andrew Clark, USN of Tampa, FL.

The family will receive friends Sunday, Dec. 15, 2013 from 1-3pm at Peacock-Newnam and White Chapel in Southport. Interment will be in Peabody, MA on December 18, 2013.

Frances L. Lancaster
Bolivia - Frances L. Lancaster, age 92 of Bolivia passed away Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Chatham Hospital in Siler City, North Carolina.
Mrs. Lancaster was born
in South Hampton County, Virginia on April 18, 1921, daughter of the late Walter Thomas Lassiter and Martha Emily Newsome. She was a member of Antioch Baptist Church in Bolivia. Mrs Lancaster retired from JP Stevens and resided in Roanoke Rapids for 56 years. She was preceded in death by her husband Jesse W. Lancaster, Sr. after 56 years of marriage; three sisters, Bessie Jenkins, Hattie Mae Killebrew, and Eunice Bell, and one brother Linwood Lassiter.
Survivors include one daughter, Judy Morgan and husband Bunkey; four sons, Warren Lancaster and wife Marie, Doug Lancaster and wife Phillis, Mitchell Lancaster and wife Cheryl, Tom Lancaster and wife Brenda; two sisters, Helen Eason and Marie Evans; eleven grandchildren, Ramie Morgan, Terry Lancaster, Jimmy Lancaster, Lisa Schons, Tony Morgan, Tommy Lancaster, Jamie Sieden, Larry Lancaster, Shannon Morgan, David Lancaster, and Brady Lancaster; 21 great grandchildren; and 5 great great grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 2:00 pm Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Antioch Baptist Church in Bolivia with Pastor Jake J Thornhill, Jr. officiating. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior, from 1-2pm at the church.

Carlos Nathanial Simmons
Sunset Harbor - Carlos Nathanial Simmons, age 81, of Sunset Harbor passed away Sunday, December 8, 2013 at his home.
Mr. Simmons was born
in Duplin County, North Carolina on June 18, 1932. Mr. Simmons was a veteran of the United States Army where after serving 32 years he retired with the rank of Colonel. Mr. Simmons was awarded several medals including three Bronze Stars with oak leaf clusters and one Silver Star as well as a Gallantry Cross.
A service will be held at a later date.

Douglas “Doug” Richard Otto
Boiling Spring Lakes - Douglas “Doug” Richard Otto
Douglas “Doug” Richard Otto, 89 of Boiling Spring Lakes passed away on Saturday December 7, 2013 at his home.
Mr. Otto was born
October 30, 1924 in White Stone, New York the son of the late Ferdinand Charles Otto and Helen Josephine Craven Otto. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and had served in the Merchant Marine during WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. Mr. Otto had worked for the NC Department of Transportation Ferry Division on the Southport – Ft. Fisher Ferry, he had also worked at Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point, Carolina Power and Light, and Wal-Mart. He also ran the charter fishing boat “Misty” out of Southport. Mr. Otto was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Surviving is his wife Ellie Otto of the home; a son and daughter-in-law Gary and Kellie Parish; a brother Donald Nostrand of California; four grandchildren, Steven Parish, Tiffany Parish, Whitney Parish, and Gary Parish II; and two great-grandchildren Christopher Parish and MaKayla Parish.
The funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Reverend Trent Watts officiating. The family will have visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 am prior to the service at the church.

James Ernest “Jamie” Swift
Southport - Jamie was born
in Pasadena, California on March 2, 1953 and died peacefully in his sleep December 1, 2013 in Southport, North Carolina.
He is survived by his mother, Lee Whitney Spangle of Vero Beach, Florida; his brother Maurice Thomas Swift, III “Tom” of Prosperity, South Carolina; and his sister Lisa Swift O’Steen and brother-in-law Mark Howard O’Steen of Jacksonville, Florida; nephews, Chip O’Steen, Cody O’Steen, and T.A. Swift; nieces, Whitney O’Steen, Marcie Swift, Lawrence Swift and Jessica Swift.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service Chapel in Southport with a reception to follow.

Ernest “Uncle Lip” Price
Southport - Ernest “Uncle Lip” Price, 77 of Southport passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2013 at his home.
Mr. Price was born
April 24, 1936 in Southport, the son of the late Harry C. Price and Hattie M. Hanshaw Price. He was raised in Southport and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. He was also a veteran of the US Army’s 101st Airborne Division, he loved fishing, creative cooking, and most of all his family. Mr. Price was preceded in death by a daughter Trina Price, four brothers Carnell Price, Quilla Price, Walter Price, Carlton Price; and two sisters Vashti Jordan, and Eva Knight.
Surviving is his wife Pauline Price; a daughter Vineice Price both of Salisbury, Maryland; a brother Harry D. Price of New Jersey; four sisters Arabella Davis of Southport, Estelle Caine of Michigan, Bessie Hinton of New York, and Beverly Price of Rockingham; one grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews.
A memorial family gathering will be held at Friendship Baptist Church on Thursday, December 5, 2013 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. Burial will be in the John N. Smith Cemetery.
