Howard W. Cain
Boiling Spring Lakes - Howard W. Cain, 84, of Boiling Spring Lakes passed away Sunday, August 31, 2014 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.
Mr. Cain was born
in Ohio, son of the late Hubert Cecil Cain and Mabel Sherer Cain. He was preceded in death by his wife Edith Cain and daughter Margaret Cain.
Survivors include his daughters, Kathleen Poland of Washington, Pennsylvania, Patricia Palmer of Richland, North Carolina, and Linda Guthrie of Newport, North Carolina; 8 grandchildren, and 9 great grandchildren.
Graveside Services will be held at 2pm Thursday, September 4, 2014 at Cape Fear Memorial Park.

Arthur Eugene Barber
Oak Island - Arthur Eugene Barber, 82, passed peacefully at home Thursday, August 28, 2014.
Surviving is his beloved wife of 50 years, Patricia Geddie Barber; a son, Wilbert Eugene Barber (Julie); and a daughter, Mary Louise Barber. He was blessed with four grandchildren (Alec, Alana, Kathryn& Lauren) and a granddog, Marlin. He was a Godly man and relished in the simple things.
A memorial service will be 2pm Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral Home Chapel in Southport.
The family will receive friends and family from 1-2 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to be made to Liberty Hospice or First Baptist Church of Oak Island, NC.

Velma Ruth Justice
Bolivia - Velma Ruth Justice, 88 of Bolivia, passed away on August 29, 2014 at Ocean Trail Nursing Center in Southport.
Mrs. Justice was born
September 6, 1925 in West Virginia. Survivors include two sons and two daughters.
No services will be held.

James M. Warren, Jr.
Oak Island - James Melton Warren, Jr., 55, of Oak Island passed away Wednesday, August 20, 2014 at his home.
Mr. Warren was born
in Dunn, North Carolina on September 23, 1958, son of Varie Lee Warren and the late James Melton Warren, Sr. Mr. Warren was a retired firefighter from Yaupon Beach Volunteer Fire Department where he had served for 39 years and had formerly served as chief. He also served as a Reserve Deputy Sheriff’s officer for 19 years, was a member of Oak Island Moose Lodge, and was an avid poker player. Mr. Warren was co-owner and operator with his brother Mark Warren of Warren Brothers Auto Services.
Survivors include his mother Varie Warren; one brother, Mark Warren; three daughters, Heather, Meredith, and Elizabeth Warren; and her two sons, Gage and Gavin Sessoms all of Oak Island.
Funeral services will be 11am Saturday, August 23, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Oak Island with Reverend Charlie Carter officiating. Burial will be at 4pm at Banners Chapel Advent Christian Church Cemetery in Benson, NC.
The family will receive friends from 6-8pm Friday, August 22, 2014 at First Baptist Church of Oak Island.
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the James Warren Memorial Fund, 408 Trott Street, Oak Island, NC 28465.
The daughters would like to give a special thank you to Dr. Tom Holland for providing extraordinary care and guidance through their dad’s courageous battle.

James Ray Mansfield ~ Supply
James Ray Mansfield, age 54, of Supply passed away Wednesday, September 3, 2014 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.
Mr. Mansfield was born
November 12, 1959 in Robeson County. He retired from the United States Army after 21 years of service and serving in Desert Storm. Mr. Mansfield worked for several years with Mansfield Brothers Heating and Air. He was a member of Bible Baptist Church in Holden Beach and loved to fish. He was preceded in death by his father Ray Mansfield.
Survivors include his mother Ann Mansfield of Oak Island; two sons, Jimmy Mansfield of Wrightsville Beach and Matthew Mansfield of Southport; two brothers, Sandy Mansfield and Perry Mansfield, both of Oak Island; one sister, Sheila Mansfield Bell of Oak Island; and four nephews, Jamie Bell, Sidney Mansfield, Brandon Mansfield, and Drew “Buckshot” Mansfield.
Funeral services will be 11am Saturday, September 6, 2014 at Bible Baptist Church with Reverend Chris Swiatocho officiating. Burial will be 2pm Tuesday, September 9, 2014 at Sandhills State Veterans Cemetery in Fayetteville, NC.
The family will receive friends from 10-11am Saturday at the church.

Frederick John Tompkins, Jr.
Bolivia - Frederick John Tompkins, Jr., age 79, of Bolivia passed away Monday, September 1, 2014 from injuries sustained in an automobile accident.
Mr. Tompkins was born
August 6, 1935 in Brooklyn, New York, son of the late Frederick Tompkins, Sr. and Dorothy Buckley Tompkins. He worked as an airline mechanic for Pan Am Airlines for 33 years. Mr. Tompkins was a member of Sunset Harbor Baptist Church in Bolivia.
Survivors include his loving wife of 52 years, Jo-Ann Barberio Tompkins, two daughters, Deanna Whalen and Debbie Gushue and husband Frank, whom he loved like a son; half brother, Barry Tompkins; one grandson Frederick Gushue; and three step grandchildren, Frankie Jr., Eric, and Nicole Gushue.
A memorial service will be held 11am Friday, September 5, 2014 at Sunset Harbor Baptist Church.

LaVada Helton Bevel
Southport - LaVada Helton Bevel, 95 of Southport passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2014 at Ocean Trail Nursing Center.
Mrs. Bevel was born
February 25, 1919 in Alabama, the daughter of the late Oliver and Mexie Helton. She was a member of Southport Baptist Church and a member of the Order of The Eastern Star in Alabama. Mrs. Helton had volunteered with the American Red Cross and was one of the Dosher Memorial Hospital “Gray Ladies”. She was preceded in death by her husband Morris E. Bevel, a son Morris E. Bevel, Jr., two brothers, Leo and Roy Helton, and a sister Sylvia Williams.
Surviving is her daughter Patricia “Pat” Smith and husband Tommy of Holden Beach; a son James H. Bevel and wife Sue of Wagner, OK; six grandchildren Donna S. Campbell, Ellis Daniel Sellers, Deborah B. Cooper, Ray Bevel, Jimmy Bevel, and Stephanie B. Rowley; six great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; and a daughter-in-law Harriett W. Bevel.
The funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm, Saturday, September 6, 2014 in the Peacock – Newnam & White funeral service Chapel with Reverend Gene Tomlinson officiating. Burial will follow in the Northwood Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 6 to 8:00 pm Friday evening at the funeral home.
The family would like to thank the staff of Ocean Trail Nursing Center for the excellent care given to Mrs. Bevel during her stay there.
