Arthur F. Diehl Jr.
Caswell Beach - Arthur F. Diehl Jr., 84 of Caswell Beach, passed away on Tuesday, September 2, 2014.
Mr. Diehl was born
December 7, 1929 in Nyack, NY. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and also attended Ocean View United Methodist Church. Mr. Diehl was a veteran of the United States Marine Corps during the Korean Conflict and had attended City College of New York. He was retired from the Delaware River Port Authority and enjoyed traveling the world. Mr. Diehl was an avid golfer, a member of the Oak Island Golf Club, a Civil War enthusiast, and a die-hard Republican.
Survivors include his wife Barbara Diehl; a son Andrew Diehl; three daughters Janet Ayers, Joanne Diehl, and Susan Diehl; a step-son Eric Davis; two step-daughters Christine Hawk and Jody Davis; three grandchildren, Brendan, Caroline, Gordon; and four step-grandchildren, Matthew, Emily, Samantha, and Sarah.
The funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Thursday, September 11, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Reverend Doug Lawson officiating. A graveside committal service will be held in the Summit Cemetery in Pennsylvania.

Delight G. Vereen
Oak Island - Delight Genevieve Vereen, 81, of Oak Island passed away Tuesday, August 12, 2014 at Dosher Nursing Center.
Mrs. Vereen was born
March 27, 1933, daughter of the late Bill and Ruth Ruark Gay. She was a graduate of New Hanover High School. Mrs. Vereen was a lifetime member of First Baptist Church of Oak Island as well as a member of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years. She was preceded in death by one brother, Bill Gay.
Survivors include her son, Johnie W. Vereen III and wife Jane of Oak Island; two grandchildren, Chad Suttles, Tammy Marlow; and three great grandchildren, Analeigh, Brandon, and Ricky.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Friday, August 15, 2014 in the Peacock – Newnam & White funeral service Chapel with Reverend Charlie Carter and Reverend Gene Tomlinson officiating. Visitation will be held from 6:00 to 8:00 pm on Thursday evening at Peacock – Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service in Southport.

Terry Lee Dayton
Boiling Spring Lakes - Terry Lee Dayton age 68 of Boiling Spring Lakes passed away on Friday, August 15, 2014 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center.
He was born
in Newark, Ohio on May 15, 1946; the son of the late, Willis Warner Dayton and Lula Marie Toothman Dayton; preceded in death by two brothers, Clyde and Gary Dayton. Mr. Dayton was a graduate Frazeysburg High School in 1964 Frazeysburg, Ohio. After finishing high school he entered the United States Marine Corps and served in the Vietnam Conflict. He received several medals and accomplishments and received the Purple Heart.
He worked his way through College and received a BS Degree in Business Management & Marketing from Franklin University Columbus, Ohio. He was employed with General Electric Company and retired after 40 years of service. He was a member of the American Legion Post # 0399 in Dresden, Ohio. His passion was helping and coaching young girls of the Tri Valley Biddy League.
He was a father figure to many and a former member of the Frazeysburg Fire Department. After moving to Boiling Spring Lakes, NC, he was affiliated with the VFW Post 10400 and attended the Full Gospel House of Prayer Church. He loved the outdoors where he loved golfing, hunting, fishing. He loved Nascar racing and loved to drive his Corvette. Terry never met a stranger and loved to tell jokes. His smile and his love for life will live in our hearts forever.
Surviving are his wife of 48 years, Judith (Judy) Shields Dayton of the home; 3 daughters, Teresa (Sam) Rogers of Pataskala, OH, Julie DePriest of Boiling Springs, NC and Angela Dayton of Gahanna, OH; five grandchildren, Jared and Logan Rogers and Brea, Donnia, and Braedon DePriest. A celebration of life will be held on Sunday, August 17, 2014 at 2:00pm at The Full Gospel House of Prayer in Boiling Spring Lakes.
Interment will follow at a later date in Ohio. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to VFW Post 10400, 3161 George II Highway, Southport, NC 28461.

Mark Scott Sherfinski
Southport - Mark Scott Sherfinski, age 45, of Southport passed away Sunday, August 10, 2014 at his home.
Mr. Sherfinski was born
February 3, 1969, son of Ann Smith Sherfinski and the late Roman Gene “Ski” Sherfinski. He worked as a leverman for US Army Corp of Engineers for many years. Mark loved the outdoors, especially fishing, hunting, spear fishing, and scuba diving. He was a member of Bethel Baptist Church. Mark was preceded in death by his father Roman Sherfinski, and sister Lisa Muckelvaney.
Survivors include his mother, Ann Sherfinski of Moncks Corner, South Carolina; son Tyler Scott Sherfinski and his mother Heather L. Dye of Boiling Spring Lakes; stepmother, Reita Sherfinski of Boiling Spring Lakes, special lifelong friend, Tony Gaw of Boiling Spring Lakes; brother in law, Dean Muckelvaney; and many friends who will miss him dearly.
A memorial service will be held at 2pm Saturday, August 16, 2014 at Bethel Baptist Church with Reverend Jeff Saggus officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1-2pm at the church.

Robert William “Bob” Templeman
Boiling Spring Lakes - Robert William “Bob” Templeman, age 62, of Boiling Spring Lakes passed away Monday, August 4, 2014 at his home.
Mr. Templeman was born
August 16, 1951 in Williamsburg, Pennsylvania. He worked as a truck driver and machinist for many years.
Survivors include his wife, Emma Thran Templeman of the home; two sons, Robert Templeman of Boiling Spring Lakes and Brian Templeman and wife Sylvia of Atkinson; one daughter Stacey Oetzel and husband Tom of Bucks County, Pennsylvania; one brother, Bruce Templeman and wife Carol of Boiling Spring Lakes; and ten grandchildren.
Funeral services will be Saturday, August 9, 2014 at 2pm at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral Home Chapel with Father Doug Lawson officiating.
The family will receive friends from 1-2pm at the funeral home.

Robert Johnson Covington
Oak Island - Robert Johnson Covington
Robert Johnson Covington, 84 of Oak Island passed away on Thursday, August 14, 2014 at his home.
Mr. Covington was born
June 1, 1930 in Reidsville, NC. He was a member of Oak Island Presbyterian Church and had retired to Oak Island 14 years ago from Durham. Mr. Covington was a veteran of the US Army having served in the Korean Conflict and was a graduate of Western Carolina University. He was preceded in death by his father James Daniel Covington; his mother and step-father Madge and Wade Carpenter; a son Shannon Covington; a brother and a sister.
Surviving is his wife of 60 years, Frances Covington; a daughter Kim Covington Yontosh and husband George of Raleigh; a grandson Scott Duncan and wife Angela of Cary; two great-grandsons Tyler and Jaxson Duncan; two nieces and one nephew.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00am on Tuesday, August 26, 2014 at Oak Island Presbyterian Church with Reverend Walter Taylor officiating.

Betsy McCoy Snyder
Southport - Betsy McCoy Snyder, 89, of Southport passed away on Monday, August 11, 2014 at Dosher Nursing Center. She was born
November 30, 1924 in Potomac, MD, the daughter of Winnie B. Ford and Guy H. McCoy. She was married to the late John F. (Jack) Snyder, also of Southport, for 53 years.
Betsy was a member of Southport Presbyterian Church, Southport Garden Club, past member of Southport Woman’s Club, and volunteer for NC Maritime Museum at Southport, Friends of the Library and Dosher Memorial Hospital.
Betsy is survived by her daughter and son-in-law, Susan Snyder Toth and Alexander B. (Sandy) Toth of Southport; grandson, Gavin A. Toth, of Charlotte; brother, G. Douglas Ford of Fredericksburg, VA.; and sister-in-law, Florence C. Snyder of Southern Pines.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.
Betsy loved her family, her friends, her gardens, her books and her kitty cats. She will be missed by all who knew and loved her. The family expresses our deepest gratitude and thanks to Michele Lawrence and all the amazing staff at Dosher Nursing Center; your care made all the difference in Betsy’s last days.
