Susan Fierko Albicker

Southport - Susan Fierko Albicker, age 61, of Southport passed away on August 26, 2013 at the SECU Hospice House of Brunswick, NC after a courageous 2-year battle with cancer.

Susan was born icon on January 16, 1952 to Francis Fierko and the late Anna Bezak Fierko in Philadelphia, PA. She began her career as a classroom teacher in New Jersey and spent over 25 years as an administrator at Minnieland Day Schools in Virginia, where she touched the lives of countless students and teachers. Susan’s life was devoted to raising her family, helping others through volunteer work including the church choir and food pantry, and living each day to the fullest. She loved to sing, dance and spend time at the beach.

Susan’s kind, generous and fun-loving spirit was contagious to all who met her.

After spending 29 years in Woodbridge, VA, Susan recently retired to Southport, NC with her loving husband of 30 years, Robert Albicker. Susan will be cherished and missed by her husband and their two daughters, Katherine and Kristen Albicker of Richmond, VA, and her loving dog, Ginger. She is also survived by her sister, Jane Nightingale and her family of Princeton Junction, NJ; her brother, Francis Fierko and his family of Orlando, FL; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

The family invites you to gather to remember Susan at 10:30 am on Thursday, August 29, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church at 5269 Dosher Cutoff S.E. in Southport, NC followed by a Mass of Catholic Burial at 12 Noon.

In lieu of flowers, Susan’s family would like you to make a donation in her name to either the Sacred Heart Catholic Church Food Bank, or to the SECU Hospice House, 955 Mercy Lane, Bolivia, NC 28422, to honor Susan’s generous and giving spirit.

Agnes Marie Casto

Boiling Spring Lakes - Agnes Marie Casto of Boiling Spring Lakes died Friday August 23, 2013 at her home.

Mrs. Casto was born icon in Wyden, West Virginia on February 7, 1935 and was the daughter of the late Delbert and Sadie Ramsey. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Charles Wayne Casto. While residing in West Virginia she was a member of Big Union Baptist Church. She was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church of Bolivia.

She is survived by a son, Gary Casto and wife Murri of Boiling Spring Lakes; a daughter, Diane Griffy and husband John of Boiling Spring Lakes; a sister, Patricia Holcolmb of Brookesville, Florida; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Wednesday August 28, 2013 at 6pm at the chapel of Peacock-Newnam & White funeral service with Reverend Jack Edge officiating. The family will receive friends one prior to the funeral service at the funeral home.

A graveside service will be at 10:00 am Saturday, August 31, 2013 at the Walnut Grove Cemetery in Dille, West Virginia.

Lillian E. Astoske

Southport - Lilian E. Astokse of Southport died Friday August 23, 2013 at SECU Hospice House, Brunswick Facility.

Lillian Astoske born icon Sept 4, 1930 in Brooklyn NY married to the love of her life John for 62 years. She is also survived by a Son John ( Jay ) and wife Ginger grand daughter Diana Laster and the apple of her eye and her # 1 baseball player Derek Astoske
Daughter Jane and boyfriend Kai Nielsen and her grand dog Elliott,
Son Pete wife Susan grand daughter Megan Murphy-Menezes and grandson Jordan Astoske. She and her husband John owned and operated Sweetreat Ice Cream Shop in Southport for 25 years

A memorial service will be held Tuesday August 27, 2013 at 2pm at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Reverend Trent Watts officiating.

Kenneth C. Gove

Oak Island - Mr. Kenneth C. Gove 82 of Oak Island died Friday August 23, 2013.

Mr. Gove was born icon September 28, 1930 in Hastings, MN. To the late John E. Gove and Felicitas Reichling Gove. Mr. Gove graduated form Hastings High School in 1948 and St. John’s University in Collegeville, MN. In 1953, he was a US Army Veteran serving during the Korean War as SGT. First Class with the 47th Infantry Division. He was employed by the Equitable Life Assurance Society of the US from 1953 to 1989. He relocated to Oak Island, NC from Charlotte, NC in August 1989. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southport where he served as a Communicant and was a charter member of the Knights of Columbus of Sacred Heart Council #12537.

He is survived by his wife, Charlene H. Gove, sons, Thomas C. Gove and wife Teri of Ownings, Md., John C. Gove and wife Lucie of Charlotte, NC, Joseph C. Gove and wife Colleen of Charlotte a daughter, Catherine G. Smith and husband David of Woodstock, Ga., three grandchildren, Kelsey, Quinn and Olivia, A sister, Charlotte Sieben of Hastings, Mn., a brother, Raymond G. Gove of Long Prairie, Mn. and 3 grandchildren. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers, Stanley and Gordon.

Funeral services will be held Tuesday August 27, 2013 at 11am at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Reverend Trent Watts officiating. Interment will follow in Cape Fear Memorial Park

The family will receive friends at the church on Tuesday from 9-10:30 am.

Joan Winders Autenrieb

Bolivia - Joan Winders Autenrieb, age 72, of Bolivia has completed her journey and has gone to be with the Lord on Friday, August 23, 2013 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.

Joan was born icon in Wallace, North Carolina on June 29, 1941, daughter of the late Ben Winders and Kathleen Johnson Winders. She worked in accounting for Bald Head Island and was a member of Mill Creek Baptist Church where she loved her bible study group WSGW/WOM (Women Studying God’s Word and Women On Mission). She also enjoyed making weekend getaways to Atlantic City. Joan was a courageous woman and an inspiration to many. She loved her family and her best friend Judy Foster who was with her through the good times and the bad. In addition to her parents, she is preceded in death by a daughter Tenna Jill Autenrieb, two brothers Graham and Larry Winders, and one sister Margaret Ann Rivenbark.

Survivors include her daughter Vedena Crowningshield and husband Dan of Wilmington; one grandchild Shawn Patrick and wife Robin of Currie; two great grandchildren Skylar and Hunter Patrick; and a brother-in-law Clayton Rivenbark.

Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Tuesday, August 27, 2013 at Mill Creek Baptist Church with Reverend Jack Edge officiating.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 to 8:00 pm Monday at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service, Southport.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made in Joan’s memory to Mill Creek Baptist Church, c/o Women Studying God’s Word and Women On Mission;1099 George II Highway, Winnabow, North Carolina 28479.

Jean Milley Reynolds

Southport - Jean Milley Reynolds, age 91, of Southport passed away Thursday, August 22, 2013 at Mariner Healthcare in Wilmington.

Mrs. Reynolds was born icon in Western Bay, Newfoundland on October 12, 1921, daughter of the late Eugene Milley and Lydia Follett Milley. She married Warren “Bub” Reynolds in 1945 and moved to Newton, North Carolina. They also lived in Auburn, Alabama as well as Holiday, Florida before making their final home in Southport, North Carolina. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers and one sister.

Survivors include her daughter Wanda Luey and husband John of Southport and two grandchildren, Nathan Luey of Methuen, Massachusetts and Charlotte Luey of Los Angeles, California.

There will be no local services. Burial will be in Florida National Cemetery at a later date.

Memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, North Carolina 28401.

Charles E. Kierstead

Southport - Charles E. Kierstead, age 86, died August 17, 2013 at Carillon Assisted Living in Southport, North Carolina.

Charles was born icon April 2, 1927 in Eastport, Maine, son of Walter and Ida (Dodge) Kierstead. He grew up in Eastport, Maine and retired from the United States Air Force after serving 20 years in 1964. He then resided in Brunswick, Maine and worked for the town until he retired. Charles and his wife Inez moved to North Carolina in 2001, living for a brief time in Huntersville, North Carolina and Southport, North Carolina. His final five years were spent at Carillon Assisted Living in Southport, North Carolina. He is predeceased in death by his parents and brothers Alfred, Phillip, Douglas and sisters Winneford, Beatrice and Barbara.

Mr. Kierstead is survived by his wife Inez Kierstead of Southport; daughters Rebecca Hager and husband Irvin Hager of Cornelius, North Carolina and Southport, North Carolina, and Jan Hollrith of Albuquerque, New Mexico; 4 grandsons Walter (Salty)Brine III of Manhattan, New York, Charles Brine of Cornelius, North Carolina, LT Adam Hollrith and his wife Christina of Monterey, California, and Nathan Hollrith of Savannah, Georgia; and great grandson Archer Hollrith of Monterey, California; brothers David and John and sister Geraldine.

Charles was a devoted husband, loving and caring father and grandfather. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him and loved him.

Though he spent his final years in North Carolina his true love was Maine.

Interment will be at Southport Presbyterian Memorial Garden at a later date.

A very special “Thank You” goes to Lower Cape Fear Hospice and all his loving caregivers at Carillon Assisted Living.
