William J. Fleming
Southport - Mr. William J. Fleming age 80 of Southport died Friday June 14, 2013.
Mr. Fleming was born
in Hoosick, NY on November 13, 1932 and was the son of the late Joseph and Mary Agnes Dorr Fleming. He was preceded in death by his daughters, Coleen and Mary Cathleen Fleming. Mr. Fleming was an avid golfer and a devoted fan of Notre Dame football. He was a U.S. Army veteran serving in Korea.
He is survived by his wife, Karen Fleming; two brothers, Walter and Joe Fleming.
The family will receive friends Sunday June 16, 2013 from 4-6pm at Peacock-Newnam & White funeral service, 1411 N. Howe Street, Southport.

Elizabeth “Betty” Duncan Martin
Boiling Spring Lakes - Elizabeth “Betty” Duncan Martin, age 74, of Boiling Spring Lakes passed away Friday, June 7, 2013 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center in Wilmington.
Betty was born
February 13, 1939 in Glasgow, Scotland, daughter of the late Fred Duncan and Helen Blackwood Duncan. She graduated Whitehill College in Scotland and afterward came to the United States to become a citizen in her early twenties. Betty retired from Dosher Hospital after 16 years and was a member of the British Club. She loved to dance and always wore a smile. Preceding her in death was her brother Edward Duncan, sister Freda Timmons, and step-son Gene Raymond Martin, Jr.
Survivors include her husband Gene Martin, Sr. of Boiling Spring Lakes; step-son Timothy Martin of Wilmington; two step-daughters Terri Poe and husband Randy of Boiling Spring Lakes and Tracey Carroll and husband Patrick of Wilmington; brother William Duncan of Scotland; sister Mary Duncan Bekusch of Scotland; and six step grandchildren.
Funeral services will be at 11:00 am Thursday, June 13, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Reverend Trent Watts officiating, with a reception to follow at the church.
The family will receive friends on Wednesday, June 12 from 5:00 to 7:00 pm at Peacock – Newnam & White funeral service
In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center, 1414 Physicians Drive, Wilmington, NC 28403.

Donald Louis Bruenner
St. James - Donald Louis Bruenner, 87 of St. James, passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2013 in the SECU Hospice House of Brunswick in Bolivia.
Mr. Bruenner was born
September 11, 1925 in Brooklyn, New York the son of the late Louis and Eline Bruenner. He was a retired Commander in the US Navy. Mr. Bruenner was also a retired executive with Chase Manhattan Bank and had also worked in real estate. He and his wife retired to St. James 16 years ago from New Jersey. He was preceded in death by a sister Shirley Bruenner.
Surviving is one son Steven Bruenner and wife Kim of Sarasota, Florida; a daughter Tiffany Barrett of Southport, two grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.
A graveside service will be held at 3:00 pm on Wednesday, May 1, 2013 in the Northwood Cemetery in Southport with Reverend Jerry Gallagher officiating.

Helen Foust Johnson
Southport - Helen Foust Johnson, 81 of Southport, passed away on Monday, April 29, 2013 at Dosher Memorial Hospital.
Ms. Johnson was born
July 2, 1931 in Snow Camp, North Carolina the daughter of the late Luther and Zola Foust. Ms. Johnson lived on Oak Island for over twenty years. She had worked as a waitress for several years on the Yaupon Pier and at the Ship’s Chandler Restaurant. Ms. Johnson was a loving mother and grandmother who loved reading on the beach. Ms. Johnson was preceded in death by a son Terry Allen, and three sisters Mary Lou, Pearl, and Fran.
Surviving is a son James Dennis Allen of Southport; a brother D.L. of Snow Camp; a sister Margaret of Yadkinville; three grandchildren Tara Ann Allen, Jamie Marie Allen, and Joshua David Allen; and three great grandchildren.
No services will be held and she will be buried in her family plot in Snow Camp, North Carolina.

M. Loraine McKeithan McLamb
Southport - Mrs. Loraine McLamb, born
October 18, 1919 in Little River, SC, passed away April 24, 2013 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center in Bolivia, NC. Loraine was retired from the New York Times. She was preceded in death by her parents, Harry and Annie Evans Jenrette, nine siblings: Gertha Ward, Ora Dare Krushes, Dupree, Annie Caudill, Ellis, Henry, Howard, Thomas, Morris, and survived by her youngest sister, Betty Hart and her three children, step-sister Cynthia Bailey. The brothers and sisters and their respective children shared a tight knit relationship as evidenced by the many homecomings held over the years.
Loraine was married to the late Reverend Jennis McLamb for 16 years and survived by step-sons, Redell, Thomas, Richard, Wilbur and their respective spouses and children. They spent those happy years together in Little River and were long-standing members of Beulah Baptist Church where she was the oldest active member. She cherished her relationship with the McLamb family and the kindness and love they have given her over the years.
She was also preceded in death by her first husband of 49 years, Early Elton McKeithan, son Elton Jr., in-laws Hiram and Dorcas, and siblings, Annie Mae Watts, John Eldridge, Tony and Dorcas Ann Lewis, and their respective spouses and children. Loraine is survived by their son Kenneth Ray and his wife Carolyn, granddaughter Melissa Rae Haugen and her husband Jeff and their daughter Lauren Rae. Loraine is also survived by her granddaughter Tracy McKeithan Rabon and step-grandson Darryl Bennett.
Indeed, Loraine was dearly loved by both of her families and will be greatly missed.
Funeral services will be 2:00 pm Saturday, April 27, 2013 at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral Home Chapel in Southport with Reverend Jesse Stevens officiating. Burial will follow in Northwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service from 1:00 to 2:00 pm at the funeral home.
Loraine’s families would like to thank the staff of Carillon Assisted Living in Southport for the excellent care they provided, which made her last few years comfortable and enjoyable.

Mr. Neil Douglas “Doug” McLaughlin Sr.
Leland - Mr. Neil Douglas “Doug” McLaughlin Sr. age 61 of Leland died Sunday April 21, 2013 at his home.
Mr. McLaughlin was born
in Lumberton, NC on March 24, 1952 and was the son of the late Neil Robert McLaughlin and Margaret Elizabeth Barr McLaughlin. He was a US Army Veteran. He retired from GE Aircraft Division in Wilmington. Mr. McLaughlin was a member of Mt. Olive Baptist Church of Bolivia, NC.
He is survived by his wife, Sandra L. McLaughlin of the home; a son, Neil Douglas McLaughlin Jr. and wife Judy of Winnabow; two grandchildren who knew him as Doug-Doug, Paige and Aaron McLaughlin; six brothers, Ken McLaughlin of Bladenboro, Ronnie McLaughlin and Danny McLaughlin of Rockingham, Gary McLaughlin and Tommy McLaughlin of Bladenboro, Mickey McLaughlin of Stone Mountain, Georgia; three sisters, Sarah “Bell” Meshaw and Faye Carroll of Bladenboro, Linda Bell of Charlotte.
Funeral services will be held Thursday April 25, 2013 at 4pm at Mt. Olive Baptist Church with Reverend Anthony Clemmons officiating.
The family will receive friends at the church on Thursday one hour prior to the funeral service.
Graveside services will be held Friday, April 26, 2013 at 2pm at Richmond Memorial Park, Rockingham, NC.

Mary Elizabeth Salsman
Winnabow - Mrs. Mary Elizabeth Salsman age 91 of Winnabow died Saturday April 20, 2013 at her residence.
Mrs. Salsman was born
in Onslow County on December 18, 1921 and was the daughter of the late John and Lena Hancock Sandlin. She was preceded in death by a brother, Carl Sandlin. She was a member of Lebanon Baptist Church.
She is survived by a daughter, Eleanor Sullivan of Winnabow; a sister, Millie Allen and husband Jim of Swansboro; four grandchildren, twelve great grandchildren, seventeen great great grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.
A memorial service will be held Tuesday April 23, 2013 at 4pm at Lebanon Baptist Church with Pastor Mark Ennis officiating.
A reception for family and friends will follow at the home of Eleanor Sullivan, 499 Halfway Court, Winnabow.
