Wayne Madden Walker – Southport
Wayne Madden Walker, 98 of Southport, passed away on Saturday, November 29, 2014 at Dosher Nursing Center.
Mr. Walker was born
July 24, 1916 in Pennsylvania, the son of the late Wendell and Mabel Walker. Mr. Walker has been a farmer and had worked for the Mohawk Area Schools in Pennsylvania. He was a member of Ocean View United Methodist Church and the Oak Island Lions Club. Preceding him in death was his loving wife LaGene Walker; a son Arnot Walker; a brother; and a sister.
Surviving are his five children; Gerry (Gayle) Walker of Oak Island, Karen Henzel of Boiling Spring Lakes, Rebecca Malik of Willow Springs, Linda Walker of Florida, and Dwight (Barbara) Walker of Lake Tahoe, California; 10 grandchildren, Gayleen (Carl) Smith, Greg (Leigh) Walker, Grant (Amy) Walker, Eric Henzel, Marc Henzel, Laura (Eric) Wilson, Naveen (Amber) Malik, Maksim Malik, Ayesha (William) Waggaman and Ryan (Danielle) Walker; and 15 great grandchildren, Brittany (Aaron) Holmes, Madison Walker, Lindsay Walker, Evan Walker, Kate Walker, Natalie Henzel, Aiden Wilson, Jack Wilson, Oliver Malik, Archie Malik, Gavin Hildreth, William H Waggaman V, Samuel Waggaman, Delaney Waggaman, and Asher Walker.
A memorial service will be held at 12:30 pm on Sunday, December 7, 2014 at Ocean View United Methodist Church with Pastor Fred Roberts and Reverend Jim Shaver officiating.
In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Ocean View United Methodist Church, Music Fund, 8400 E Oak Island Dr, Oak Island, NC 28465.

Marilyn Jean (Lynn) Clark
Oak Island - Marilyn Jean (Lynn) Clark age 59 of Oak Island, NC passed away on Friday, November 28, 2014 at her residence.
She was born
in Boston MA, on May 17, 1955, the daughter of the late Michael Murphy and Jean Atwood Murphy and was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Clark.
Mrs. Clark was a devoted mother and grandmother. Lynn loved both Oak Island as well as her Boston hometown and is loved and survived by many family and friends in both states. She will be greatly missed.
Surviving are her loving family, a daughter, Kirby Lynn Clark; two sons, Michael Clark and his lovely wife Jamie and Sean Clark; two sisters, Janice Murphy and Marcia Curtin; four grandchildren, Alison, Jenna, Dylan and Molly; in addition to numerous aunts, uncles, nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be 11:00 AM Monday December 1, 2014 at Peacock Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service 1411 North Howe Street Southport.

Julian Bryson “Jerry” Giles
Southport - Julian Bryson “Jerry” Giles, 85, of Southport died Saturday, November 22, 2014 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.
Mr. Giles was born
November 30, 1928, son of the late Marvin and Mary Bryson Giles. He worked building boats on the Yacht Basin in Southport. He owned and captained several boats, but his favorite was “Capt. Dick” that was named after his father-in-law. Mr. Giles was preceded in death by his wife Peggy Arnold Giles and three brothers.
Survivors include one brother Marvin S. Giles of Detroit and one nephew Carroll “Buddy” Giles of Virginia Beach, Virginia.
Funeral services will be 2pm Thursday, December 4, 2014 at Peacock-Newnam & White Funeral Home. Burial will follow in Old Smithville Burying Grounds.
The family will receive friends one hour prior, from 1-2pm at the funeral home.

Kenneth Wickman
Boiling Spring Lakes - Kenneth Michael Stemac Wickman, 34 of Boiling Spring Lakes, passed away on Thursday, July 24, 2014.
Mr. Wickman was born
December 30, 1979 in Michigan the son of Dawn Mercier.
Survivors include his mother; his loving wife Shannon Wickman of the home; a son Trenton Levi Wickman; two step-sons Anthony Boylan and Nicholas Boylan; a step-daughter Makayla Boylan; a twin brother Kevin Wickman; and two sisters Ariel Mercier and Audrey Mercier.
A memorial service will be held at a later date.

Ronald Stanley Hilton
Southport - “After fighting cancer for the past 6 months, Ronald Stanley Hilton (a.k.a. “Nor”) went to be with his Lord Jesus Christ on Thursday, July 17, 2014. Mr. Hilton finished his battle with cancer in the SECU Hospice House of Brunswick.
A native to Charlotte NC, Mr. Hilton was son of the late Elmer S. Hilton and Mildred Dunn Hilton.
Mr. Hilton lived a life of excellence, was resilient, resourceful, and followed his dreams at all cost. In 1972, he was honorably discharged as a sergeant of the United States Marine Corps. After spending 39 years with Southern Bell, Mr. Hilton retired and accepted a position with the NC Department of Transportation as a mate on the Southport / Fort Fisher Ferry in Southport NC. Mr. Hilton’s family and friends are very proud of his recent certification to operate vessels up to 1600 gross registered tons.
Surviving are a son; Bryan Hilton and wife, Sheree, a sister; Patti Freeman and husband Chuck, two brothers; Alan Hilton and wife, Debbie, and Gary Hilton and wife, Donna, two grandchildren; Zack and Caleb Hilton, aunt; Ann Williams, several nieces and nephews, their children, and a host of many friends.
The family would also like to express their appreciation to the SECU Hospice House of Brunswick staff and volunteers, Bob and Pam Tolle, Sandy Mitchell, George and Marybeth Ray, and Chris Pittman who have all been an incredible example of true community and love.
A celebration of Mr. Hilton’s life will be held at 2:00 PM Sunday, July 20, 2014 at Peacock Newnam & White Funeral & Cremation Service Chapel.
The family will receive family and friends an hour prior to the service at the funeral home.

Kathleen Marie Steele
Caswell Beach - Kathleen Marie Steele, 70 of Caswell Beach, passed away on Thursday, November 20, 2014 in the SECU Hospice House of Brunswick.
Mrs. Steele was born
January 14, 1944 in Chicago, Illinois, the daughter of the late John Kenneth and Antoinette Diemer. Kathy was a lifelong lover of people, pets, and a good laugh. She was a loving daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, friend, and teacher. After graduating from college in 1964 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, she began her teaching career in elementary education, and at her wedding in 1965, her first-grade class was in attendance. When Kathy’s first son was born
in 1968, she set her teaching calling aside for her life’s most important work. She gave birth to three more children and settled in Syracuse, New York, which would be her family’s home for 25 years. In 1980 Kathy returned to teaching at Holy Cross School, her children’s school, where she taught for the next 17 years and in 1989 was awarded the St. John the Baptist De La Salle Award by the Diocese of Syracuse Catholic Schools, for outstanding teaching and “Extraordinary Commitment to the Ideals of Catholic Christian Education.” While at Holy Cross, Kathy and Scott welcomed Hoa Nguyen into the Steele family. In 1997, with her children through college, Kathy moved with her husband to Oak Island, North Carolina to begin the next chapter in her life. Over the next two decades, Kathy shared her love for life and gift of gab with her beloved island community of Caswell Dunes. It is said that Kathy has never met a stranger. She played bridge weekly, enjoyed entertaining her friends, volunteered at Southport/Oak Island Animal Rescue, substitute taught, published a children’s book titled The Legend of the Angel Wing Shell, and made a vacation paradise for her children and grandchildren.
Surviving is her husband of 49 years, K. Scott Steele; two sons John Scott Steele of Penn Yan, NY and William Kirk Steele and wife Carrie of San Antonio, TX; three daughters, Susan Elaine Leight and husband Andrew of Easton, MD, Kathleen Ann Kreutner and husband Erik of Charleston, SC, and Hoa Nguyen of Syracuse, NY; three brothers Jack Diemer and wife Shirley, Michael Diemer and wife Sharon, and Robbie Diemer; a sister Barbara Baldizar and husband Robert; and eleven grandchildren, William, Kaden, Chloe, Ansley, Tommy, Sophie, Anna Kate, Mary Clare, Owen, Adam, and Kayleigh. She also leaves behind her beloved dog Marley and joins her much-loved late daughter in law Valerie Spanneut Steele in everlasting peace.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 pm on Monday, November 24, 2014 in the Peacock – Newnam & White funeral service Chapel with Lower Cape Fear Hospice Chaplin Reverend Mickie Norman officiating.

Commander Robert M. Terry (Retired)
Caswell Beach - Commander Robert M. Terry (Retired), age 85, of Caswell Beach passed away Monday, November 17, 2014 at Dosher Memorial Hospital.
He was born
in Santa Ana, California on June 26, 1929, son of Charles E. Terry and Alice Terry Gunnison. Mr. Terry was a graduate of University of Colorado and was in the first Navy SEAL/UDT Team and remained in that service until his retirement in 1972.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Marina W. Terry; four daughters, Lisa A. Terry (Rocky Wilson), Lynda B. Terry (Eugene Curry), Maureen Terry and Ellen M. Terry (Ben Sawyer) and five grandchildren.
A private service is planned for a later date.
