Douglas “Doug” Richard Otto, 89 of Boiling Spring Lakes passed away on Saturday December 7, 2013 at his home.
Mr. Otto was born
October 30, 1924 in White Stone, New York the son of the late Ferdinand Charles Otto and Helen Josephine Craven Otto. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and had served in the Merchant Marine during WWII, Korea, and Vietnam. Mr. Otto had worked for the NC Department of Transportation Ferry Division on the Southport – Ft. Fisher Ferry, he had also worked at Military Ocean Terminal Sunny Point, Carolina Power and Light, and Wal — Mart. He also ran the charter fishing boat “Misty” out of Southport. Mr. Otto was preceded in death by three brothers and two sisters.
Surviving is his wife Ellie Otto of the home; a son and daughter — in — law Gary and Kellie Parish; a brother Donald Nostrand of California; four grandchildren, Steven Parish, Tiffany Parish, Whitney Parish, and Gary Parish II; and two great — grandchildren Christopher Parish and MaKayla Parish.
The funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am on Thursday, December 12, 2013 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with Reverend Trent Watts officiating. The family will have visitation from 9:30 to 10:30 am prior to the service at the church.

James Ernest “Jamie” Swift
Southport — Jamie was born
in Pasadena, California on March 2, 1953 and died peacefully in his sleep December 1, 2013 in Southport, North Carolina.
He is survived by his mother, Lee Whitney Spangle of Vero Beach, Florida; his brother Maurice Thomas Swift, III “Tom” of Prosperity, South Carolina; and his sister Lisa Swift O’Steen and brother — in — law Mark Howard O’Steen of Jacksonville, Florida; nephews, Chip O’Steen, Cody O’Steen, and T.A. Swift; nieces, Whitney O’Steen, Marcie Swift, Lawrence Swift and Jessica Swift.
A memorial service will be held at 11:00 am Saturday, December 14, 2013 at Peacock — Newnam & White Funeral and Cremation Service Chapel in Southport with a reception to follow.

Ernest “Uncle Lip” Price
Southport — Ernest “Uncle Lip” Price, 77 of Southport passed away on Thursday, November 28, 2013 at his home.
Mr. Price was born
April 24, 1936 in Southport, the son of the late Harry C. Price and Hattie M. Hanshaw Price. He was raised in Southport and was a member of Friendship Baptist Church. He was also a veteran of the US Army’s 101st Airborne Division, he loved fishing, creative cooking, and most of all his family. Mr. Price was preceded in death by a daughter Trina Price, four brothers Carnell Price, Quilla Price, Walter Price, Carlton Price; and two sisters Vashti Jordan, and Eva Knight.
Surviving is his wife Pauline Price; a daughter Vineice Price both of Salisbury, Maryland; a brother Harry D. Price of New Jersey; four sisters Arabella Davis of Southport, Estelle Caine of Michigan, Bessie Hinton of New York, and Beverly Price of Rockingham; one grandchild and a host of nieces and nephews.
A memorial family gathering will be held at Friendship Baptist Church on Thursday, December 5, 2013 from 1:00 to 2:00 pm. Burial will be in the John N. Smith Cemetery.

Edris Georgette Jackowski
Winnabow — Edris Georgette Jackowski, age 74, of Winnabow passed away Tuesday, December 3, 2013 at Lower Cape Fear Hospice and LifeCare Center in Wilmington.
Mrs. Jackowski was born
in Bridgehampton, New York on December 6, 1938, daughter of the late Clarence and Edris Wilde Miller. She worked as a library clerk for many years. Mrs. Jackowski was very proud of her English heritage and how she grew up in The Hamptons, being known as a bonacure. She was a wonderful, loving, caring mother who enjoyed going on family vacations. She also loved her grandchildren and was an animal lover especially her furry grandbabies. She was preceded in death by her husband Robert Steven Jackowski who passed away in 2008, one brother Maynard Miller and one sister Phyllis Wellings.
Survivors include two sons, Keith Jackowski and wife June of Farmingdale, New York and Michael Jackowski of Winnabow; two daughters, Jennifer Gorenstein and husband Eric of Shallotte and Leslie Hopper and husband David of Winnabow; and four grandchildren, Kerri, Matthew, Kevin, and Robbie Jackowski.
A memorial service will be Friday, December 6, 2013 at 2:00 pm at Peacock — Newnam & White Funeral Home Chapel. Inurnment will follow in Northwood Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Thursday, December 5, 2013 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at the funeral home.

Southport — Bubba (Leslie Allen) Tucker
Bubba (Leslie Allen) Tucker of Southport, 61, was called to his Heavenly home on Thursday, November 21, 2013.
Bubba was born
in Lubbock, Texas on February 20, 1952, to the late James Danferd Tucker and Virgie May Downs. He was a loving partner, a loyal friend, and a very proud grandfather.
His interests were wide and varied, but his main sources of joy were his friends and family, music, fishing, and woodworking. If he wasn’t out fishing for flounder, he was playing his guitar or in his workshop. His joy in these activities was always accentuated when shared with his friends.
Surviving with their wonderful memories of Bubba are his love, Karen Mayo of the home; two sisters, Charlotte Wilbeck and husband Tom of Longview, Texas, and Susie Blackwell and husband Ron of Lorena, Texas; two daughters, Nikki Lindorfer and husband Chuck of China Spring, Texas, and Misty Dawn LaBrecque of Wilmington, North Carolina; two nieces, Wendy Reneau and husband Scott of Cypress, Texas, and Jamie Stogner and husband William of Robinson, Texas; and his beloved grandchildren, Jasmine, Savannah, John Tucker, Amber, and Tyler.
In lieu of services, Bubba’s request is that you make sure to tell the people in your life, each and every day, that you love them.

Carl “Moe” Mumford Kirby, Jr
Southport — Carl “Moe” Mumford Kirby, Jr.
Carl “Moe” Mumford Kirby, Jr., 82, of Southport, NC died on Tuesday, December 3, 2013, at home. Moe was born
March 30, 1931 in Monroe, NC. He was the son of the late Carl Mumford Kirby, Sr. and Edith Wells Kirby.
Moe served his country in the U.S. Army and worked as a dental assistant during the Korean War. He attended the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill where he received his undergraduate degree and his degree in pharmacy. Moe came to Southport in 1959 and opened Kirby Prescription Center with his brother Tommy. The pharmacy remained open until the spring of 1994 when Moe retired.
Moe was an avid Carolina fan; he also enjoyed hunting and fishing, and was known to enjoy the “occasional” drink.
Moe is survived by this wife of 34 years, Sadonie Kirby, his son, Carl “Wesley” Kirby of Southport, NC, his brother Tommy Kirby of Tampa, FL, his grandchildren, Carl McKellen Kirby and Gabriella Kirby, his nephew, Tom Kirby and his niece Krista Kirby Singleton. He is also survived by his step — daughter Karen deVaux Jones, his step — grandchildren, Kendall Evan Jones, Krystal deVaux Jones, Kennan Scott Jones and Kaylyn deVaux Jones.
Visitation will be held on Friday, December 6, 2013 from 6 to 8 pm at Peacock — Newnam and White funeral service

Betty Phelps Moore
Oak Island — Betty Phelps Moore
On Sunday, November 17, 2013, Betty Phelps Moore, 76, of OakIsland left her earthly home to live forever with her Lord.
Betty was born
August 1, 1937 in Raleigh to the late John H. Phelps and Lila Nordan Phelps Godwin. Betty was a loving mother, wife and proud grandmother of 6 beautiful granddaughters.
Betty was best known as a tour and travel guide. For 28 years, Betty arranged and led guided tours all over the United States and Canada. Hundreds of North Carolinians traveled the nation with Betty and enjoyed her exciting tours. Even though Betty had officially retired from touring, she led her final tour to Myrtle Beach with her friends from Bethel Baptist in Southport, North Carolina two days before her passing.
Left to cherish her memory is her husband of 60 years, George Donald Moore of the home; sons Don Moore of Garner, Ken Moore and wife Darlene Hinton Moore of Lugoff, SC, and Jeff Moore and wife Sarah Bangert Moore of Garner; and her 6 granddaughters Cameron, Amber, Danielle, Hannah, Ashlyn Moore and Kristin Moore Riggins and Husband Scott Riggins.
Funeral services will be 2pm Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at Peacock — Newnam & White Funeral Home Chapel in Southport with Reverend Jeff Saggus officiating. Inurnment will be at 12 Noon on Saturday, November 23, 2013 at Montlawn Memorial Park in Raleigh, North Carolina.
The family will receive friends from 12 — 2pm on Wednesday, November 20, 2013 at the funeral home prior to the service.
