Lynda Sue Miller

Boiling Spring Lakes — Lynda Sue Miller, age 61, of Boiling Spring Lakes died Thursday, November 14, 2013 at New Hanover Regional Medical Center in Wilmington.

Mrs. Miller was born icon in Pennsylvania on April 3, 1952, daughter of Vivian Noll and the late Robert Noll. She grew up in Waynesboro, Pennsylvania. After marrying, her and her husband Carroll Miller lived in several places, including Wyoming, Colorado, Texas, and North Carolina. She has been a member of various Methodist churches where she was very involved in youth work, church choirs, and teaching Sunday school. Mrs. Miller was currently a member of Ocean View Methodist Church where she was also involved in the food pantry. She enjoyed being a mother and taught her children everything they know. Mrs. Miller was office manager and bookkeeper for her husband Carroll Miller, CPA. She also enjoyed cooking, reading, and crafting. She enjoyed life, people and made everyone feel welcome and loved, to her everybody counted.

Surviving is her husband Carroll Miller of the home; her mother Vivian Noll of Waynesboro, Pennsylvania; two sons, Tony Miller of Arlington, Texas and Matthew Miller and wife Stephanie of Denver, Colorado; one daughter Amanda Sosa and husband Ray of Arlington, Texas; two brothers, Garnet Stevens and wife Sandy of Mercersburg, Pennsylvania and Ray Stevens and wife Shawnee of Boonesboro, Maryland; two sisters, Phyra Hargett and husband Richard of Lithonia, Georgia and Patricia Paull of McSherrystown, Pennsylvania; six nieces and five nephews.

A memorial service will be at 2:00 pm Tuesday, November 19, 2013 at Ocean View United Methodist Church with Reverend Fred Roberts and Reverend Bruce Titus officiating.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the cancer — related charity of your choice.

Argie Mae Sisk Poteat

Southport — Argie Mae Sisk Poteat, 85 of Southport and formerly of King passed away on Tuesday, November 5, 2013 at Dosher Nursing Center where she had been a resident since January.

Mrs. Poteat was born icon November 6, 1927, she celebrated her 86th birthday in heaven, in Stokes County the daughter of the late William Everett Sisk and Razzie Lee Smith Sisk. She was the most wonderful mother in the world; she had very bright eyes, and a smile that would win you over. She was big hearted, generous and a loving person; she was known for helping other residents and her many friends at the nursing center. Mrs. Poteat was preceded in death by her husband Robert V. Poteat, and a sister Pearle Ferguson.

Surviving is her son William R. Shelton of Manhattan, NY; her daughter Deborah Shelton Bolduc and husband Frank of Southport; and three grandchildren.

A memorial service is being planned for a later date at her home in King.

The family would like to thank the staff of Dosher Nursing Center for the care and love given to Mrs. Poteat during her time there.

William John Dempsey

Southport — William John Dempsey 80, of Southport, passed away on Wednesday, April 2, 2014 at Dosher Nursing Center in Southport.

Mr. Dempsey was born icon May 16, 1933 in Ogdensburg, NY the son of the late William John Dempsey and Mary Rite Gagnon Dempsey. He was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church. Mr. Dempsey served in the US Navy during the Korean Conflict. He retired from the US Border Patrol and Immigration and Naturalization Service after 33 years of service, retiring as Deputy District Director in Portland Maine. He was an amateur radio operator who loved boating and fishing.

Survivors include his wife, Rose Dempsey of the home; son, Kevin Dempsey and wife Christina of Centerville, Virginia; daughter, Kathleen Martin and husband George of Charlotte; brother, Mike Dempsey of New York City; six grandchildren, Samantha Dempsey, Eric Dempsey, Laura Martin, Matthew Martin, Bradley Martin, and Andrew Martin.

The funeral mass will be held at 10:30 am on Monday, April 7, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Southport With Reverend Trent Watts officiating.

Jesse Dwayne Mason

Winnabow — Jesse Dwayne Mason

Jesse Dwayne Mason, age 22 of Winnabow died April 2, 2014.

Jesse was born icon August 25, 1991 in New Hanover County and was the son of Larry and Patty Lewis Mason of Winnabow. He was an avid outdoorsman, loving to deer hunt and fish and competitive fox hunting and mudding. He was an excellent auto mechanic. Jesse had a contagious smile and enjoyed so much spending time with family and friends. He was a devoted and caring father. He was preceded in death by his paternal grandparents, Jessie and Ruby Mason; maternal great grandparents, Fred and Gladys Lewis and Wilma Huffman; two uncles, Freddie Lewis and Glenwood Mason.

Survivors in addition to his parents include his children, Reagan Leann Mason of the home and his unborn child to arrive later this year; his fiance’ Alison Murray of the home; a brother, Cody Mason of Winnabow; three sisters, Heather Wilson and husband Erik of Monroe, NC, Teri Bruner of Winnabow, Christy Phelps and husband Adrian of Winnabow; maternal grandparents, Ruby Thomas of Winnabow and Edward Lewis of Bolivia;maternal great — grandfather, Bryant Huffman; loving uncle to, Madison, Morgan, Gracie, Kayla, Mason, Will, Logan, Trever, Alonnah.

Funeral services will be held Sunday April 6, 2014 at 3pm at Highest Praise Worship Center, Hwy 17 and Red Bug Road, Shallotte. Burial will follow in the Mason Family Cemetery, Winnabow.

Pallbearers will be, Ervin “Bubby” Page, Daniel Gainey, Justin Thompson, Jesse Watts, Brandon Reynolds, Nick Howard, Eric Bowling.

The family will receive friends Saturday evening from 6 — 8 at Peacock — Newnam & White funeral service, Southport.

Edith Marie Arnone Fullwood

Southport — Edith Marie Arnone Fullwood

Edith Marie Arnone Fullwood was born icon in Aguilar, Colorado on January 25, 1935 and passed on April 3, 2014.

Edith was born icon to the late Aquilina Pagliuso Amone and Gaetano Arnone. She was the youngest of five children Joe, Orlando, Armando, and Jersey Arnone. She graduated from Aguilar High School and later Trinidad State Junior College where she received degrees in X — ray technology and radiology. She moved to Colorado Springs where she met and married Leon Fullwood who was serving in the United States Air Force. They had two children Armando and Melina Fullwood. After her husband retired from the Air Force, they moved to her husband’s hometown of Southport, North Carolina to raise their family. Edith worked at Dosher Memorial Hospital and then Brunswick County Health Department as a medical lab supervisor until her retirement.

Mrs. Fullwood was an active member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church where she enjoyed singing in the choir. She loved watching football games, going out with friends, spending time with family and enjoyed listening to music and reading too.. She was a wonderful “Nana” and enjoyed playing Monopoly with her grandchildren. She was a wonderful wife, mother, aunt, sister, and friend and will be truly missed by all that knew her.

She is survived by her husband of 54 years, Leon Fullwood; daughter, Melina Fullwood, son, Armando Fullwood and wife Dwanda Fullwood; seven grandchildren; brothers, Orlando Arnone and wife Betty; and Joe Arnone. She also has a large extended family of nieces, nephews, and dear friends that she enjoyed visiting during summers in Colorado. She also has many fond members of Aguilar where she has grew up with a large Italian family.

A Funeral Mass will be held at 12Noon on Friday, April 11, 2014 at Sacred Heart Catholic Church with a reception following at the church. She will be laid to rest in Aguilar, Colorado.

In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

Ms. Pearl W. Mitchell

Pearl W. Mitchell passed away peacefully January 26, 2004, her 90th birthday, at Sunrise of Raleigh. Pearl was a native of Wilkes Co., the daughter of the late John and Lena Wagner.

She was preceded in death by her husbands, Luther Gibbs, Kermit Smith and Lloyd Mitchell, son, Jim Gibbs, stepson, Bill Smith and seven siblings.

Surviving are a stepdaughter, Barbara Church of Raleigh; stepsons, Johnny Smith of Mooresville, Allen Smith of Mocksville; sisters, Ruby McNeill of Wilkesboro, Violet Faw of Millers Creek, Raydell Shepherd of N. Wilkesboro and Mabel McComb of Illinois; grandchildren, Lee Brevoort of Wake Forest, Linda Garrett of Garner, Kim Randall and Rhonda Smith of Mooresville; great — grandchildren, Robert and Kevin Brevoort, Christopher and Lauren Garrett, Zac and Zoie Randall, A.C. and Alex Crosby; several nieces and nephews.

The family extends a special appreciation to the staff and caregivers at Sunrise of Raleigh and Hospice of Wake County. Thank you for every moment of comfort and kindness you gave to Pearl. To Louisa¾the extra care and attention you gave to “Baby Doll” will never be forgotten.

Pearl was a former nurse and in keeping with her desire to help others donated her body to the UNC Medical School.

A memorial service was held Saturday, January 31, 2004 at Sunrise of Raleigh, 4801 Edwards Mill Road.

Mrs. Lila Chavis Johns

Mrs. Lila Chavis Johns of 408 Montague Street in Garner, North Carolina, departed this life at Wake Medical Center on Sunday, January 25, 2004, after a long illness.

She was born icon July 12, 1936 in Wake County, North Carolina.

She is survived by her husband, Mr. Jackie Johns, Sr.; and two sons, Jackie Johns, Jr., and Danny Nelson Johns, all of the home; one God — daughter, Manyonga K. Leach of Raleigh, North Carolina; four sisters, Betty Jean Chavis, Novella Chavis — Manning (Billie), Janet Mickens and Wanda Chavis, all of Raleigh, North Carolina; one brother, Earnest Chavis, Jr. of Raleigh, North Carolina; two aunts, Ida Moore and Lois Caudle, both of Raleigh, North Carolina; one uncle, Elvin Rogers of Knightdale, North Carolina; and a host of nieces; nephews; other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were held at Springfield Baptist Church at 4309 Auburn — Knightdale Road, in Raleigh, North Carolina, on Saturday, January 31, 2004. A burial followed the funeral services at Carolina Biblical Gardens in Garner.
