Sheila Joy Sparks Wiseman
October 29, 1946 – July 8, 2013

On July 8, 2013 called one his angel’s, Sheila Wiseman home. She was taken from this world after a difficult battle with an unexpected illness. The family will receive friends 6 – 9 p.m. Thursday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.

Family will receive friends 6 – 9 p.m. Saturday at Wallace-Wallace Funeral Home, 213 Main Street, Rainelle, West Virginia. The funeral will be conducted 2 p.m. Sunday at Wallace-Wallace Funeral Home.

Sheila is survived by her husband, Thomas Michael Wiseman of the home; her son, Dustin Michael Wiseman of Wilson; her daughters, Dawn Wiseman Holloman and husband, Travis of Wilson and Wendy Wiseman Barkley and husband, Thomas of Wilson; her grandchildren, Kennedy Taylor Wiseman, Hudson Shilo Holloman, Sloane Michelle Holloman, Claire Rhodes Barkley and Graham Thomas Barkley all of Wilson; her brother, Fairley Mitchell Sparks and wife, Carol of Salt Lake City, Utah and her sister-in-law, Betty Wiseman Turner of Greensboro.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Lydia Mitchel Sparks and Enola Electa Sparks; her brothers, James Lee Sparks and Ira Lester Sparks and her sister-in-law, Bonnie Wiseman Evans.

Sheila worked for BB&T; for over 20 years, before that she owned her own beauty shop in Rainelle, WV. She was a wonderful and caring wife, mother, grandmother, and friend. She loved her family very much, was always there for them and words cannot express how much she was loved in return. She will be greatly missed but will live in our hearts and minds forever.

Kimberly Ann Moore
November 15, 1966 – May 22, 2013

Kimberly A. Moore, 46, of Wilson passed away Wednesday peacefully with her family by her side. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday in Evergreen Memorial Park. The Rev. Rusty Russell will officiate.

The family will receive friends 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Friday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway.

Kim was a loving daughter, sister, aunt and a friend to all who knew her. She will be missed and her memory will remain in the hearts of her family and friends. Kim battled cancer since 2004. She worked for Nexans in Elm City for over twenty eight years.

Kim is survived by her mother, Frances Deans Joyner of Wilson; her father, Buddy Moore and wife, Geraldine of Lucama; her sisters, Donna Raper and Amber Waller Harrelson both of Wilson; her step-brother, Timmy Hudson and wife, Paula of Lucama; her nieces, Jessica Bass of Wilson, Brook Shingleton of Snow Hill and Brianna Hudson of Lucama and her nephews, Blake Shingleton of Snow Hill, Seth Waller of Wilson and Julous Hudson of Lucama.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Crystal Shingleton and her step-brother, Jimmy Hudson.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to WCYAA, Batter-Up Buddy Ball, P.O. Box 10, Lucama, NC 27851.

Gertrude Creech Johnson
November 16, 1926 – March 15, 2013

Gertrude Creech Johnson, 86, of Middlesex passed away Friday. Funeral services will be conducted 2:30 p.m. Monday at Middlesex Baptist Church, 11490 W. Stewart Street, Middlesex. Interment will follow in Hollywood Cemetery. The Rev. Steve McCart and the Rev. Roy Jernigan will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Sunday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway and other times at the home.

Gertrude was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law and friend. She will be thought of often and remembered with joy.

Gertrude is survived by her husband, Willie Junior Johnson of the home; her daughter Patricia Lynn Webb and husband, Joe of Saratoga; her sons, James Earl “Bucky” Johnson and wife, Jerri of Middlesex, and Donald Ray Johnson of Goldsboro; her grandchildren, Laura Barnhill and husband John, Brandon Webb and wife, Jessica, Tim Webb and wife, Meredith, Michael Johnson and wife, Caroline, Matthew Johnson, Jeff Currie, Jeremy Currie and Jason Currie and wife, Allison; her great-grandchildren, Evan and Colby Barnhill, and Tuck, Willow and Turner Webb; her sisters, Adell Gardner of Wilson, Daisy Watkins of Wake Forest and Clara Donahoe and husband, James of Pink Hill; her brother Carl Bryant Creech and wife, Anna of Wendell and her sister-in-law, Rochelle Creech of Wendell.

She was preceded in death by her daughter, Judy Kay Johnson; her parents, Olif and Mender Belle Creech; sister, Genobes Hocutt, Nova Henley, Winona Meacombs; her brothers, Linwood Creech and L.Z. Creech; her step-mother, Maybell Price Creech and her step-sister, Kaye Nowell.

Elsie May Walston Temple
September 25, 1923 – February 1, 2013

Elsie May Walston Temple, 89, a resident of Golden Living Center, formerly of Bailey, went to be with her Lord on February 1, 2013. funeral service will be conducted 2 p.m. Monday, February 4, 2013 at First FWB Church, 4865 Nash Street NW, Wilson, NC 27896. Interment will follow in Bailey Town Cemetery. Pastor John Melancon and Pastor Wayne King will officiate.

The family will receive friends 12 – 1:45 p.m. prior to the service at the church and other times at 3111 Edinburgh Drive NW.

Elsie was a wonderful mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was loved by all who knew her and will be missed every day. She was a member of the First FWB Church of Wilson since the early 1950’s. She worked at the Wilson Memorial, Coffee Shop for twenty five years, where she was known affectionately known as “Miss Elsie”.

Elsie is survived by her daughters, Peggy Temple Stott of Knightdale, Eleanor Sullivan DePew and husband, Charlie of Wilson, Faye Temple David of Winterpark, FL, and Pam Temple Melancon and husband, Pastor John of Pinetops; her sons, John Michael Temple of Bailey, and Levie Daniel Temple and wife, Penny of Middlesex; fifteen grandchildren; twenty-two great-grandchildren and one great-great grandchild.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Levie Greene Temple and her parents, Pink Walston and Mattie Elizabeth McKeel Walston.

Dale Cary Bone
July 21, 1943 – December 11, 2012

Dale Cary Bone, 69, of Wilson passed away Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Wilson Medical Center. He was born icon in Nash county July 21, 1943, to Lucille J. Bone and Hubert C. Bone. He was preceded in death by his father, Hubert and his brother, William R. (Billy) Bone.

A Memorial service will be held 3 p.m. Friday at Joyner’s Funeral Home with a private committal. The family will receive friends 5 – 8 p.m. Thursday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.

Dale is survived by his wife, Genia Tyson Bone of Wilson; his mother, Lucille J. Bone of Nashville; his son, Michael Keith Bone and wife, Jill Thomas Bone; his granddaughters, Harper E. Bone and Mia F. Bone all of Chapel Hill; his sister-in-law, Marjorie Bone of Nashville.

Dale received a Bachelor’s of Science from North Carolina State University, graduating in 1964 with a degree in Agronomy and Agricultural Economics. He began farming in Nash County in the mid 1960’s, establishing his business acumen as the nation’s largest cucumber producer by the mid 1980’s. He served as President, Vice President, and Treasurer for the National Council of Agricultural Employers. His involvement with agricultural based organizations was diverse, including The Pickle Packers International, NC Rural Center Agribusiness Consortium, United Fresh Fruit and Vegetable Association, Produce Marketing Association, and NC Sweet Potato Commission, among others. He was also appointed by the North Carolina General Assembly as a Board Member of prestigious Golden L.E.A.F. Foundation. Dale had served on the Barton College Board of Trustees, and was also a Board Member of The Salvation Army and The Arts Council of Wilson. In 1998 he was honored as Entrepreneur of the Year by the North East Entrepreneurial Round Table, and NC Agribusiness of the year in 2005. Most recently he was awarded the National Agricultural Alumni and Development Association’s Ruby C. McSwain’s Outstanding Philanthropist Award.

Although well known as one of North Carolina’s prominent farmers, Dale was also a highly regarded and generous philanthropist. He provided university scholarships for numerous students in the local area, as well as various educational endowments. One of Dale’s proudest and most recent accomplishments was involvement in the creation of Wilson Youth United, better known as The Spot, providing area youth with direction and guidance.

Vincent Bernard Thomas
December 12, 1939 – December 10, 2012

Dr. Vincent Bernard Thomas, 72, of Wilson passed away Monday, December 10, 2012 at his home in Wilson, NC. Born in Wilson on December 12, 1939, to Albert S. Thomas, Sr. and Lena Farris Thomas, he was preceded in death by his parents and a sister, Carolyn Thomas Marley.

Vincent is survived by his wife, Kitty Bernhardt Thomas; daughter, Catherine Thomas Andrews and husband, Graham; son, Charles A. Thomas and wife, Julieanne; grandchildren, Charles and James Thomas, all of Wilson. Survivors also include brothers Allen G. Thomas, Sr. and wife, Lynette and Albert S. Thomas, Jr., and wife, Georgia of Wilson; sister, Mary Thomas Williams and husband, Reynolds of Florence, South Carolina; as well as many nieces and nephews.

Vincent was a graduate of Charles L. Coon High School in Wilson, where he was president of the student body and an outstanding athlete, being named all-state quarterback. College in the southeast recruited him for both football and basketball. He later graduated from UNC-Chapel Hill and the Pennsylvania College of Optometry in Philadelphia. Vincent began practicing optometry in Wilson in 1968 and was the founding member of Wilson Eye Associates. Recognized as a leader in the optometry field, he served as a Trustee of the N.C. State Optometric Society and a member of the N.C. Board of Examiners in Optometry. Vincent participated in many civic and community efforts and was awarded the Distinguished Service Award by the Wilson Jaycees. For his service in furthering eye care in the state of North Carolina he holds the Order of the Longleaf Pine, which is the highest civilian award given to a state resident. As a lifelong member of St. Therese Catholic Church, he served as chairman of the Parish Advisory Council and member of the Knights of Columbus.

Vincent deeply cared for his many patients and was always willing to help no matter when they called. He was a kind and gentle man whose sense of humor was infectious. Vincent loved his family, trips to Wrightsville Beach, and watching his children and grandchildren play ball.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the American Heart Association, 1108 Windermere Drive, Wilson, NC 27896 and the American Cancer Society, 1207 Peachtree Road, Wilson, NC 27896 or to the charity of one’s choice.

The family will receive friends from 6 - 8 p.m. Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway. A Memorial mass will be held at St. Therese Catholic Church, 700 Nash Street W., Wilson, at 11 a.m. on Wednesday, December 12, 2012. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery.

Wymble C. “Pig” Edwards
May 2, 1924 – November 23, 2012

Wymble C. “Pig” Edwards, 88, of Middlesex died Friday. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Monday in Evergreen Memorial Park, Wilson.

The family will receive friends 7-9 p.m. Sunday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway and at other times will be at home.

Surviving are his wife, Peggy Joyce Edwards; two daughters, Hope Glover and husband, Mike of Bailey and Libby Tippett and husband, Art of Middlesex; one son, Buddy Edwards and wife, Michelle of Middlesex; six grandchildren, Amy Brewer and husband, Ryan, Tiffany Glover, Josh Tippett and wife, Kristina, Magan Winstead and husband, Josh, C.J. Edwards, and Olivia Edwards; three great-grandchildren, Kaitlyn Tippett, Michael Brewer, and Brooklyn Winstead.
