Brenda Fulghum Honeycutt
June 26, 1939 – March 25, 2012

Brenda Fulghum Honeycutt, 72, of Bailey passed away on Sunday. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Bailey United Methodist Church, 12437 Green Street, Bailey, NC. Interment will follow in Bailey Town Cemetery. The Rev. Eldrick Davis will officiate.

The family will receive friends 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Monday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at 5832 Pine Street, Bailey, NC.

All loved Brenda and she will be thought of often by her family and friends with memories that will warm their hearts. She was a member of the Bailey United Methodist Church; she gave her time freely as she was a volunteer for Meal on Wheels for many years and also a member of the Wilson County Shrinnettes.

Mrs. Honeycutt is survived by sister, Barbara Fulghum Williams and husband, Ralph of Bailey; brother, Howard Ray Fulghum and wife, Nelda of Raleigh; nieces, Susan Fulghum Folckemer and husband, John of Holly Springs, Julie Williams Wood and husband, Keith of Bailey; nephew, Greg Fulghum of Winston Salem; great nieces, Melissa Folckemer of Charlotte, Makenzie Wood of Bailey; great nephews, Josh Fulghum of Charlotte and Braden Wood of Bailey.

She was preceded in death by her husband, William Douglas Honeycutt and her parents, Julius R. Fulghum and Patty Eula Lamm Fulghum.

The family would like to express how deeply they appreciate all the love, support and prayers during Brenda’s illness.

Cathy Lynn Bryant
September 27, 1978 – March 25, 2012

Cathy Lynn Bryant, 33, of Bailey passed away Sunday. Funeral services will be conducted 12 p.m. Wednesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. The family will receive friends prior to service from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. Interment will follow in Bailey Town Cemetery. Pastor Kenneth Bryant and Chaplain Ed Creech will officiate.

Cathy was a loving daughter and sister that will be greatly missed.

Cathy is survived by her parents, James and Frances Bryant of Bailey and her brothers, Stephen Bryant of Virginia and Paul Bryant of Bailey.

She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Doyette and Almorine Bryant and Joseph and Mary Williams; brother, James Doyette Bryant and an aunt, Leigh Bryant.

Arrangements are by Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway.

Brooklyn Grace Smith
August 9, 2011 – March 1, 2012

Brooklyn Grace Smith, 6 months, of Wilson passed away on Thursday. Funeral services will be conducted at 3 p.m. Sunday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. The Rev. Johnny Hendricks will officiate.

The family will receive friends 6 – 9 p.m. Saturday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway and other times at 6719 Hemlock Court, Sims.

Brooklyn is survived by her parents, Stephen Mike and Sonya Lynn Horton Smith; sister, Hayley K. Smith of Bethel, CT.; maternal grandmother, Janet Poythress Raetz and husband, Robby of Middlesex; maternal grandfather, Eddie Horton of Wilson; paternal grandparents, Wilhelmine D. and Jim Mortensen of Lauderdale, MS; great-grandmother, Doris F. Poythress and great-grandfather, William P. Horton.

Winifred Mercer Walls Johnson
September 26, 1922 – February 11, 2012

Winifred Mercer Walls Johnson, 89, of Wilson died Saturday. Graveside services will be conducted 11 a.m. Tuesday in Evergreen Memorial Park. The Rev. Dan Jones and the Rev. Tom Watkins will officiate.

The family will receive friends 7 – 8:30 p.m. Monday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.

Winifred was a graduate of Bailey High School and East Carolina Teachers College, class of 1943. She taught school in Wilson for 21 years and 9 years in Nash County. Her memberships included the Wilson Woman’s Club, a lifetime member of the North Carolina Educators Association and the local Wilson County Retired School Personnel, the American Contract Bridge League, and the Wilson Duplicate Bridge Club. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, where she taught a kindergarten class in the Sunday School for 24 years.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Merrill Walls, Sr. in 1989.

Surviving are her husband, A. Dwight Johnson; daughters, Linda Walls Ward and husband, William H. Ward of Wilson, Cindy Walls Booth and husband, Richard K. Booth of Raleigh; son, Charles M. Walls, Jr. and wife, Linda of Wilson; six grandchildren, Edwin Ward of Wilmington, Angela Ward of Raleigh, Caley and Harrison Booth of Raleigh, and Matthew and Steven Walls of Wilson.

The family would like to give a special thanks to WilMed Hospice, her caregivers at home, Mary Simms, Grace Thomas and Marie Best, and her long time friend and caregiver, Maureen Felder.

Memorials may be directed to First United Methodist Church, P.O. Box 1423, Wilson, NC 27894-1423.

Wilbert David Watkins
August 7, 1928 – January 16, 2012

Wilbert David Watkins, 83, of Wilson died Monday. A graveside service will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Evergreen Memorial Park. The Rev. Jerry Nelson will officiate.

The family will receive friends following the service and at other times at 4517 Riverbirch Road, Wilson.

Mr. Watkins is retired from the City of Wilson and was a member of Farmington Heights Church of God for over 50 years.

He is survived by a godson, Melvin Barnette and wife Rhonda of Wilson; a cousin, Betty Melton and husband Earl of Kenly; a god-granddaughter, Staci Stone and husband Daniel of Wilson and a god-grandson, Matthew Barnette of Wilson.

He was preceded in death by his wives, Lillie Watkins and Grace Watkins and his parents Johnny and Annie Pittman Watkins.

All memorials in his memory may be directed to Farmington Heights World Missions, 910 Raleigh Road Pkwy, Wilson, NC 27896.

Arrangements are by Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway.

Lonnie Carl Boykin, Jr.

December 7, 1944 – December 17, 2011

Lonnie Carl Boykin, Jr., 67, of Sims died Saturday. Funeral services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Sims United Methodist Church. Burial will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. The Rev. Barbara Tyre will officiate.

The family will receive friends 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Monday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway and other times at the home.

Mr. Boykin started his career as a carpenter with Triangle Construction Company with 25 years of service, and finished his career with ST Wooten Corp. of Wilson. He served in the past as a member of Sims Volunteer Fire Department and Sims Town Board. In addition to his love of building, Mr. Boykin enjoyed visiting the Outer Banks and the many lighthouses of North Carolina.

Mr. Boykin is survived by his wife of 45 years, Sandra High Boykin; a son, Christopher C. Boykin and wife, Lou Ann of Sims; a daughter, Wendy B. Sullivan and husband, Steve of Wilson; two grandsons “Poppy’s Boys”, Tanner and Taylor Sullivan; his mother Bertha B. Glover of Sims; two sisters, Edith Hartley and husband, W.R. of Brogden, and Barbara Ann Campbell and husband, Melvin of Amherst, Va.; two sisters-in-law, Nelda Fulghum and husband, Ray of Raleigh and Jean High of King; and a special “sister”, Ernestine Glover of Bailey.

He was preceded in death by his father, Lonnie Carl Boykin, Sr., his step-father, Duncan Glover and a brother-in-law, Jerry High.

Ellen McKeel Ellis
January 28, 1929 – March 6, 2013

Ellen McKeel Ellis, 84, of Wilson passed away Wednesday. A graveside will be conducted
10 a.m. Friday in Maplewood Cemetery. The Rev. Wayne Whitley will officiate.

The family will receive friends 6 – 8 p.m. Thursday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway and other times at 6413 Gardner’s School Road, Stantonsburg.

Ellen was co-owner and operator of Clyde Ellis’s store at Holden’s Crossroads for over 30 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be missed by all that knew her.

Ellen is survived by her daughter, Betty Ellis Baker (Alan) of Stantonsburg; her brother, Luther McKeel Jr., of Greensboro and her grandchildren, Alison Ford (Shawn) of Wilson, Al Baker (Robin)
of Wilson, Joshua Ellis of Colorado Springs, Colorado and Peyton Ellis of Kinston, and three great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Clyde P. Ellis and her son, Preston Ellis.
