David Randolph Kelley, Sr.
November 29, 1947 – May 19, 2013
David Randolph Kelley, Sr., 65, of Elm City passed away Sunday. A funeral service with Masonic Rites will be conducted 7 p.m. Thursday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. A graveside service will be 11 a.m. Friday, with Military Honors in Evergreen Memorial Park. The Rev. Glenn Hill will officiate.
The family will receive friends immediately following the service at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the home.
David was a loving husband and father that will be missed and thought of often with wonderful loving memories that will always make them smile. He was employed by Wrangler for 37 years. David was a member of the Wilson County Shrine Club, Past Master of Wilson Lodge 712, and Past Director of the Wrecking Crew and a member of Sudan Camping Club of the Sudan Shriners. He served our country with honor in the U.S. Army during Vietnam War.
David is survived by his wife, Marjorie S. Kelley of the home; his son, David Kelley, Jr. and wife, Sarah of Cartersville, GA; his daughter, Laura E. Kelley of Raleigh; his mother, Ethel M. Kelley of Wilson and his brother, Daniel Lee Kelley of Wilson.
He was preceded in death by his father, Carlyle Vincent Kelley.

Burlyn Barfield Barnes
March 31, 1928 – July 1, 2013
Burlyn Barfield Barnes, 85, of Wilson passed away Monday. Funeral services will be conducted 1 p.m. Wednesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. The Rev. Joe Shakour will officiate.
The family will receive friends 7 – 9 p.m. Tuesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway and other times at 4424 Kenroy Road, Wilson.
Burylyn is survived by her daughter, Joyce Barnes Bay and husband, Bill of Raleigh; her sons, Wayne Barnes and wife, Susan of Archdale and Tim Barnes and wife, Angie of Wilson; her six grandchildren, Kelli Bay Davis and husband, Brad of Greensboro, Lauren Barnes Nichols and husband, William of Greensboro, April Barnes Perry and husband, Cole of Wilson, Leslie Barnes of Archdale, Holly Barnes Crocker of Wilson and Candace Barnes and fiancé, Thomas Moore of Wilson; one grandson, Barry Barnes and wife, Sheri of Holly Springs; one great-granddaughter, Sophia Davis of Greensboro and two great-grandsons, Jack Davis of Greensboro and Greyson Crocker of Wilson.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Clifton R. “Bud” Barnes; her grandson, Jason Bay; her parents, Burrell and Lula Norris Barfield; three sisters and three brothers.
Vollis Simpson
January 17, 1919 – May 31, 2013
Vollis Simpson, 94, of Lucama passed away Friday. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Tuesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. The Rev. Dr. Sefton Strickland and the Rev. Jerry Andrews will officiate.
The family will receive friends 6 – 9 p.m. Monday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
Vollis is survived by his wife, Jean Barnes Simpson of the home; his daughter, Carol S. Kyles and husband, Jay of Lucama; his sons, Leonard Barnes Simpson and wife, Pam of Summerfield and Vollis Michael Simpson and wife, Brenda of Lucama; his grandchildren, Allison Dunn, Valerie Dunn, Jamison Kyles and Cassidy Kyles and his sister, Eleanor Watson of Lucama.
He was preceded in death by his daughter, Jeanie Simpson and his parents, William Oscar Simpson and Emma Watson Simpson.

Mavis Lamm Davis
July 17, 1922 – May 25, 2013
Mavis Lamm Davis, 90, of Wilson passed away Saturday. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Friday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Maplewood Cemetery. Her son, Pastor Ronnie E. Davis will officiate.
The family will receive friends 5 – 7 p.m. Thursday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway.
Mavis was a born
again Christian, devoted wife and a Godly mom. She loved the Lord Jesus, loved her family and loved people. She was a prayer warrior, soul winner and was a hard worker. She finished her course with honor and was a true champion for Christ.
Mavis was survived by her son, Pastor Ronnie E. Davis and wife, Lori of Winterville and her grandson, Luke Davis of Winterville.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Hoover Davis, Jr.; her parents, Wiley Oscar Lamm and Sena Renfrow Lamm; her sister, Beatrice Williams and her six brothers, Ford, Buck, James, Ralph, Robie and Ray Lamm.

Donald Mack Barnes
September 27, 1944 – June 16, 2013
Donald Mack Barnes, 68, passed away at Duke Medical Center, Sunday, June 16, 2013 with his wife, daughters, son-in-law, sister, nieces, nephews and friends by his side. He was loved and adored by everyone in his life. He was the anchor to a family he cherished and nourished for his entire life. He will be missed terribly by everyone and we will all be struggling to heal the pain of losing such a huge part of our life. Mack had such pride for his heritage, his close group of family, friends and neighbors. He fought so hard to live so he could continue to watch his grandchildren grow. He was so proud to be “Papa” and his grandchildren filled his heart with so much love. He will be remembered by the love of land whether he was farming, hunting, traveling or riding his daughters, grandkids and Buster across fields sharing his knowledge. Mack was a member of the Buck Only Hunt Club in Buckingham, VA and he was an avid farmer. He served his country honorably with the National Guard.
His heartfelt motto was inspired by his love of N.C. State and Jim Valvano especially the infamous declaration of “Don’t give up – don’t ever give up and a day is never complete unless you laugh a little, cry a little and pray a lot”.
A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday in Springhill Presbyterian Church Cemetery, Lucama. Jerry Glenn Crocker, Jr., his great nephew, will officiate.
The family will receive friends and family 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Tuesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the home.
Mack is survived by his wife, Sue Peacock Barnes of the home; his daughters, Robin Barnes Bunn and husband, Turner of Wilson and Donna Barnes Dixon and husband, Chris of Winston-Salem; his grandchildren, Mackenzie “Mack” Ellen Bunn, Cappa Suzanne Bunn, Van Clayton Dixon and Dorothy “Dottie” Barnes Dixon; his sister, Ruby Barnes Newsome of Wilson; his father-in-law, King David Peacock; his nieces, Lisa Michelle Peacock, Linda Winstead, Becky Worley, Theresa Ward and Mary Buendia; his nephews, David Larry Peacock, Jr. Carlton Crocker, Jerry Crocker and Brent Barnes; their families as well as all of Mack’s extended families and his special dog, Buster.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Simon Glenn and Pauline Lee Boykin Barnes and his brothers, Franklin Glenn Barnes and William “Billy” Connor Barnes.

Minnie “Ruth” Leverette, 86, of Florida passed away Sunday. Funeral services will be conducted 7 p.m. Thursday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held 11 a.m. Friday in Maplewood Cemetery. The Rev. Billy Davis will officiate.
The family will receive friends Thursday evening immediately following the service at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
“Ruth” is survived by her daughter, Teresa Collins and husband, Paul; her granddaughter, Cassi Collins; her grandsons, Randy Collins and Corey Collins all of New Port Richey, FL; her sister, Ruby Whitley Lucas of Lucama; her niece, Annette Lucas Sullivan and husband, Kenneth of Wilson and her nephew, Jay Lucas and wife, Lorraine of Lucama.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Eldred Leverette; her parents, Jim and Mamie Whitley; and her brothers, June Thomas Whitley, James Whitley and Earl Whitley.

Vernon Cecil Pate, 80, of Lucama passed away Saturday. Funeral services will be conducted 7 p.m. Tuesday, June 4, 2013 at Joyner’s Funeral Home. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Wednesday, June 5, 2013 in Evergreen Memorial Park.
The family will receive friends Tuesday evening immediately following the service at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.
Vernon is survived by his wife, Sally N. Pate of the home; his daughter, Patricia Woodall and husband, Jeff of Dudley; his son, Vernon Troy Pate and wife, Donna of Black Creek; his granddaughters, Catina Outlaw and husband, Linwood of Goldsboro and Auleana Barnes of Goldsboro; his great-grandchildren, Drew Barnes, Preston Barnes, Jordan Outlaw, Carter Outlaw and Wallace Outlaw and his brothers, Charles Pate and wife, Lucille of Lucama and Kenneth Pate and wife, Gail of Lucama.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Woodard Franklin Pate and Maybelle Best Pate.
