Robie Pearson
January 13, 1924 – July 14, 2013

Robie Pearson, 89, of Wilson passed away Sunday. Funeral services will be conducted 2 p.m. Thursday at Shiloh Pentecostal Holiness Church, 5843 Shiloh Church Road, Wilson. Interment will follow in Bailey Town Cemetery. The Rev. Elwood Long and the Rev. Allen Pearson will officiate.

The family will receive friends 6 – 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway and other times at the residence.

Robie was a member of Shiloh Pentecostal Church where he served as a deacon. He was a building contractor and he assisted in building the present church in 1959. He served his country honorably and faithfully with the US Army during World War II.

Robie is survived by his son, Phillip Pearson and wife, Edna of Bailey; his daughter, Cathy P. Gammon and husband, Ron of Smithfield; his grandsons, Allen Pearson, Harold Pearson and wife, Laura; Cameron Gammon and wife, Erica; and Drew Gammon; his granddaughters, Courtland Gammon and Madison Gammon; his great-grandson, Nathaniel Pearson; his great-granddaughter, Hannah Pearson; seven step-grandchildren and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents; Bartley and Olar Lamm Pearson; Vernell Mercer Pearson wife of 56 years; Ruth Phillips Rose Pearson wife of nine years; seven brothers and five sisters.

Mildred Scott Smith Lamm
April 1921 – July 14, 2013

Mildred Scott Smith Lamm, 92, of Wilson passed Sunday at her home after a period of declining health. Mildred was the daughter of the late C.C. Scott and Lillian Neal Scott. She was preceded in death by her brother, Donald Scott and her sister, Bettie Mae Taylor. Mildred’s first husband, Bruce Smith, passed away in 1971.

Mildred was a lifelong resident of the Scott’s Church Community and a longtime member of Westminster Presbyterian Church. She always enjoyed participating in her church’s activities. Even after her health failed, she attended church in her motorized wheelchair.

She is survived by her second husband of 37 years, James Thomas Lamm and her children, Randy (Jo) Smith, Carol (Charles) Pittman, Seth (Frances) Smith, Cathy (Earl) Sullivan and her sister, Brenda (Billie) Cooper. She is survived by many nieces and nephews and a special niece, Bettie Taylor Jones. She is also survived by six grandchildren and 13 great-grandchildren.

Her favorite hobbies when she was able were working in her garden, traveling, doing her yard work, helping her church family and friends, playing setback, and helping her children and grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held 2 p.m. Wednesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home with her ministers, Dr. Frank Haggard and CLP Vernon Grimes presiding. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park.

The family will receive friends 6:30- 8:00 Tuesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson and other times at the home.

Leona Pearl Caudle Irvin
May 5, 1941 – July 3, 2013

Leona Pearl Caudle Irvin, 72, of Wilson passed away Wednesday at Johnston Memorial Hospital. A graveside service will be conducted 11 a.m. Monday in Maplewood Cemetery. The Rev. Ray Wells will officiate.

The family will receive friends, 6 – 8 p.m. Sunday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway, Wilson.

She and her husband were the owners of The Flower Shop, formerly located in Parkwood Mall.

She is survived by her daughter, Tonya I. Pridgen and husband, Jimmy of Wilson; her son, Scott York of North Wilkesboro; her three grandchildren, Brandon York, Logan York and Madison Price, and her brother, David Caudle of Wilson.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Glyn Corbett Irvin and her son, Todd York.

In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Alzheimer’s Association, 1305 Navaho Drive, Suite 101, Raleigh, NC 27609 or the charity of one’s choice.

Leslie Allen Driver
October 23, 1936 – June 29, 2013

Leslie “Dick” Allen Driver, 76, of Elm City passed away Saturday. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Saturday at Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church, 5921 Bridgersville Road, Elm City. Interment will follow in Cedar Grove Cemetery. The Rev. Clay Cordell and the Rev. Tim McFatter will officiate.

The family will receive friends 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Friday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway and other times at 6027 Sharpe Store Road, Elm City.

Leslie was a loving husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather, brother and friend to all that knew him. He will be missed and thought of often with love. He was a member of the Oak Grove Free Will Baptist Church and served his country honorable with the US Marines.

Leslie is survived by his wife, Nancy Driver of the home; his sons, James Driver and wife, Cheryl of Virginia Beach, VA, Dicky Driver and wife, Kim of Talladega, AL and Dexter Driver and wife, Lora of Pinetops; his daughters, Rebecca Gardner and husband, Bryan of Macclesfield and Tonya Bouldin and husband, John of Rocky Mount; his 14 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; his brother, Leon Driver and wife, Audrey of Wilson; his sisters, Reba Kirby and husband, Charles and Edith Futrell and husband, Bobby of Kenly; his step-daughter, Lori Hinnant of the home; his step-son, Bill Sledge of Roanoke Rapids and his uncle, David Driver of Wilson.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis Edward Driver and Maggie Gurley Driver and his brother, Connie Littleton.

Robert Ralph Kenney
May 8, 1928 – June 26, 2013

Robert Ralph Kenney, 85, of Elm City passed away Wednesday.

Robert is survived by his daughter, Valerie K. Evans and husband, Wayne of Kenly and his grandson, Jamie P. Kenney and wife, Jessica of Stantonsburg.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Pauline B. Kenney.

Ethel Lilian Beech Skinner
January 26, 1924 – June 25, 2013

Ethel Lilian Beech Skinner, 89, of Elm City passed away Tuesday. Funeral services will be conducted 7 p.m. Thursday at Wilbanks Christian Church, 6128 NC Hwy 42 E, Elm City. Interment will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday in Evergreen Memorial Park. The Rev. Bobby White and Rev. Dwight Batts will officiate.

The family will receive friends 5:30 – 6:45 p.m. Thursday prior to the service at Wilbanks Christian Church.

Lily and Junior were married for 55 years. She was a loving mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend; she will be missed and thought of often with wonderful memories and smiles that will touch the heart of her loved ones. She loved her church and church family. She served on the Board and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. Lily loved living life to its fullest: shopping, cooking, gardening and had many other interests.

Ethel is survived by her daughters, Evonne S. Corbett and husband, Melvin of Elm City, Bridget S. Driver and husband, Mickey of Wilson, Patricia S. Webb and husband, Ronny of Macclesfield and Sheila Mae Skinner Banks and husband, Nelson of Elm City; her sons, David Skinner and wife, Debbie of Elm City and Darren Skinner and wife, Tora of Wilson; her grandchildren, Casey Littleton Skinner and wife, Stacey, Dustin Webb, Shannon Lilian Webb, Logan Greer Skinner, Kody Skinner Banks, Chad Parrish and wife, Ashley, Nicole Norville, Tiffany Wooten, Jerry Smith, Kala Durham and Bobby Jenkins; one great-grandchild, Parker Lamm; her sister, Nancy Rodgers of England; her sisters-in-law, Alice, Addie and Lily Beech, all of England, and many nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Junior Littleton Skinner; her parents, John William Beech and Ethel Eaton Beech and her brothers, Kenneth, Leslie, Edwin and Jackie Beech.

Marvin Earl Mercer
August 2, 1950 – June 9, 2013

Marvin Earl Mercer, 62, of Wilson passed away Sunday. Funeral services will be conducted 11 a.m. Thursday at Joyner’s Funeral Home. Interment will follow in Evergreen Memorial Park. The Rev. Johnny Sullivan will officiate.

The family will receive friends 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. Wednesday at Joyner’s Funeral Home, 4100 Raleigh Road Parkway and other times at the home.

Marvin was a loving father, grandfather, son, brother and friend that will be missed and thought of often with joy. He was a member of the Wilson Breakfast Optimist Club and worked with White’s International for 38 years.

Marvin is survived by his son, Jeremy Marvin Mercer and wife, Christa of Wilson; his daughter, Christy Mercer Bissette of Elm City; his grandchildren, Carlynn Alexis Mercer, Cody Alexander Mercer, Jason Andrew Mercer and Regan Michelle Harris; his mother, Lillian Estelle Mercer of Wilson; his sister, Janie Mercer Cockrell and husband, Phil of Wilson; his brothers, Donald Mercer and wife, Vikki of Goldsboro and Claude Mercer, Jr. of Bailey and special friend for many years, Brenda Owens and her family and Marvin’s extended family.

He was preceded in death by his father, Claude Allen Mercer, Sr. and sister-in-law, Judy Mercer.
