Benson, NC: Mrs. Joyce Faircloth Meeks age 67 of 1027 Sunset Dr. died Saturday at her residence. A Graveside Service will be 2:00PM Wednesday at Oak Grove Memorial Gardens in Durham. Officiating will be the Rev. Ron Gurganus.

Mrs. Meeks was born December 23, 1939 in Harnett County to the late Algie and Mae Sessoms Faircloth. She worked with a security guard company and was a homemaker. She was preceded in death by her husband, Charles William Meeks, and son, Charlie Meeks.

Surviving are Daughters and Sons-in-Law, Cheryl & Monty Shaver of Fort Hood, Texas, and Brenda Tyndall & Nelson Phillips of Four Oaks; Grandchildren & Spouses, Ashlee Tyndall & Justin Dauzat, Pete & Jenny Honaker, Jamie & Eric Trask, Andee Ledger, and Ricky Ledger.

Mrs. Mary Alice Adams

October 5, 2007

Angier, NC: Mrs. Mary Alice Adams, age 59, of 4440 G. Piney Grove Church Road died Friday at her residence. Funeral Services will be Tuesday at 11:00AM at the Rose & Graham Funeral Chapel in Benson. Officiating will Rev. Timmy Blair and Rev. Hubert Morgan. Entombment will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Adams was born June 27, 1948 in Johnston County to Ruth Surles Phillips of Four Oaks and the late Valton Young. She was also preceded in death by sisters, Martha Young and Jean Altieri. Mrs. Adams was the head custodian at Yates Mill Elementary School.

Surviving in addition to her mother, include Husband, Bobby Adams; Daughter, Sheila Smith of Fayetteville; Step-Daughter, Amber Marie Stewart of Benson; Sisters, Doris Smith of Dunn and Joyce Anderson of Benson; and Brothers, Billy Young of Faison and Willie Young of Benson.

Family will receive friends at Rose & Graham Funeral Home, Benson, from 7 to 9 PM Monday and other times at the home of Ruth Surles Phillips, 8312 Strickland’s Crossroads Road, Four Oaks.

Mrs. Maxine Horton Barefoot

October 4, 2007

Erwin, NC: Mrs. Maxine Horton Barefoot, age 80, of 102 1st Street died Thursday at her residence. funeral service will be 11:00AM Saturday at Rose & Graham Funeral Chapel in Benson. Officiating will be Rev. Jerome Pope, Rev. Bobby Norris, and Rev. Jim Lee. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mrs. Barefoot was born April 2, 1927, in Johnston County to the late Garland and Theresa Register Horton. She was also preceded in death by Husbands, James Howard Lee and Evitt Barefoot; a Granddaughter, Amanda Lee, and a Sister, Maybelle Clay. Mrs. Barefoot was a Certified Nursing Assistant and was a homemaker. She was a lifelong member of East Erwin Church of God of Prophesy.

Surviving are Sons & Daughters-in-Law, Rev. Jim & Sharon Lee of Raleigh, Ray & Jean Lee of Angier, Rev. Ronald & Ethel Barefoot of Benson, and Donald Bruce & Debbie Barefoot of Dunn; Daughter & Son-in-Law, Barbara & Roy Robbins of Benson; Sisters, LaRue Kearney of Wake Forest, Myrna Barefoot of Dunn, Peggy Barnes of Angier, Gloria Allen of Dunn, Evelyn Fhipps of Dunn, and Delores Stewart of Dunn; Brother, Cortelle Horton of Chester, VA; 12 Grandchildren; and 11 Great Grandchildren.

Family will receive friends at the Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson from 7:00PM to 9:00PM Friday.

Mr. Lynward Elton “L.E.” Johnson

October 3, 2007

Benson, NC: Mr. Lynward Elton “L.E.” Johnson, Sr. age 78 of 2747 NC 50 South died Wednesday at his residence. Funeral Services will be Friday at 2:00PM at the Rose & Graham Funeral Chapel in Benson. Officiating will be the Rev. Calvin Leavitt. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery.

Mr. Johnson was born August 10, 1929 in Johnston County to the late George Elton & Virgie Beasley Johnson. He was also preceded in death by his Wife, Shirley Rhea J. Johnson, and Brother, Waylon Johnson. Mr. Johnson was a farmer, mechanic, and a former deputy with the Johnston County Sheriff’s Department. Mr. Johnson was a member of Holly Grove Advent Christian Church where he served as a past deacon and served in many other capacities.

Surviving include Sons & Daughters-In-Law, Lynward Elton “Junior” Jr. & Phyllis Johnson, Marshall Lynn & Linda Johnson both of Benson. Daughter & Son-In-Law, Gwen & Ricky Green of Benson. Grandchildren and Spouses, Angie & Neil Wheeless, Brian & Nickie Lee, Joni Benson, Kimberly Lee, Crystal & Ashley Stanley, Carrie Johnson & Lynward Elton “Trey” Johnson, III. Step Grandchildren & Spouses, Greg & Angie Peterson, Rodney & Tonya Peterson, Keith & Reba Green, Leticia & Randy Johnson. Great Grandchildren, Madison Stewart, Sydney Wheeless, Lance Benson, Mattie Wheeless, Landen Beasley, Nicholas Lee, James Peterson, Eva Cate Peterson, and Sydney Johnson; Sisters, Iva Mae Lee, Edna Ruth Peacock & Linda Faye Raynor all of Benson; and Special Pet, “Pearl”.

Family will receive friends at Rose & Graham Funeral Home, Benson, from 6 to 9 PM Thursday.

Mrs. Telma Lucas Parrish

September 25, 2007

Erwin, NC: Mrs. Thelma Lucas Parrish, 78, of 835 Maynard Lake Road died Tuesday Morning at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. Funeral services will be Thursday at 1 PM at Rose & Graham Funeral Chapel in Benson. Revs. Keith Goretzka and Billy Nowell will officiate. Burial will follow in Roselawn Cemetery in Benson.

Mrs. Parrish was born in Harnett County to the late W. W. & Ella Jones Butler Lucas on March 29, 1929.

She was a Member of Erwin First Baptist Church, Banner Post 109 American Legion Auxiliary, and the Slinging Seniors Bowling League. She was retired from Belk’s Stores as a sales associate.

Surviving: Husband, Paul Thomas Parrish; Daughters and Sons-in-law, Paula Parrish of Erwin, Pamela & Carter MacFarland of Cornelius, NC, Toni & Robert Hottinger of Harrisburg, VA, Tammy Parrish & Kay Taylor of Charlottesville, VA, Kim & Bill Schneider of Columbia, SC, Six Grandsons, Five Granddaughters and one Great-Granddaughter.

Family will receive friends at Rose & Graham Funeral Home, Benson, from 7 to 9 PM Wednesday.

Mrs. Mary Johnson Blackmon

September 18, 2007

Benson, NC: Mrs. Mary Johnson Blackmon, age 89, died Tuesday at Wake Medical Center in Raleigh. Funeral Services will be 11:00AM Thursday at Rose & Graham Funeral Chapel. Officiating will be Revs. Glenn McCullen and John Shackleford. Burial will follow in Banner Chapel Church Cemetery.

Mrs. Blackmon was born November 20, 1917, in Johnston County to the late Jesse B. and Fannie Barefoot Johnson. She was preceded in death by her husband, O. Shelton Blackmon. Mrs. Blackmon was a member of Fair Haven Church of God and was a homemaker.

Surviving are Daughter, Rachel B. Johnson of Dunn; Sons & Daughters-in-Law, Nathan B. & Glenda Blackmon, Leon & Susan Blackmon and Kenneth & Pat Blackmon, all of Benson; 9 Grandchildren; and 13 Great Grandchildren.

Family will receive friends at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson from 6:00PM to 8:00PM Wednesday and other times at the home of Nathan B. & Glenda Blackmon, 202 S. Wall Street, Benson.

Mr. W. Russell Lamm

September 14, 2007

Coats, NC: Mr. William Russell Lamm age 72 of Coats died Friday at New Hanover Regional Hospital in Wilmington. Funeral Services will be 11 am Monday at the Coats Baptist Church. Officiating will be the Rev. Jesse Mooney. Burial will follow in Oak Grove Baptist Church Cemetery.

Mr. Lamm was born March 13, 1935 in Harnett County to the late Onnie G. and Mattie Denton Lamm. He was preceded in death by his wife, Jean Pope Lamm. Mr. Lamm was owner and operator of W. Russell Lamm Construction Company, and had been in the construction business for over 40 years. He also attended the Coats Baptist Church.

Surviving: Daughter, Lisa Lamm of Benson; Sons & Daughters-In-Law, Andy & Becky Lamm of Whiteville, and Jay & Cathy Lamm of Coats; Sisters, Ann L. Beasley of Coats, and Doris L. Guy of Raleigh; Brother, Hobert Lamm of Fuquay-Varina; Seven Grandchildren; Candace Lamm, Alanda Lamm, Ben Clark, Carly Clark, Lauren Kinton, Blair Kinton, and Samatha Lamm.

Family will receive friends at Rose & Graham Funeral Home, Coats, from 6:00PM until 8:00PM Sunday, and other times at the home of Mrs. Ann Beasley, 318 S. Carrie St., Coats, NC.

Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to one’s favorite charity.

Mr. Charles Lane Campbell, Sr.

September 12, 2007

Greenville, NC: Mr. Charles Lane Campbell, Sr., age 63, formerly of 853 Pine Log Lane died Wednesday. funeral service will be 6:00PM Friday at Rose & Graham Funeral Chapel in Benson. Officiating will be Rev. Glenn McCullen and Rev. Scott Johnson.

Mr. Campbell was born December 25, 1943, in Harnett County to the late Milton Chester and Alice Blanche Betts Campbell. He was a supermarket manager. Mr. Campbell served in the U. S. Air Force during the Vietnam Conflict. He was also a Mason and a member of the Greenville 206 Lodge Ground Point.

Surviving are Sons & Daughters-in-Law, Charles L., Jr. & Jenny Campbell of Angier, Douglas & Nancy Campbell of Raleigh; Scott & Jennifer Campbell of Fuquay Varina, and Christopher & Sonya Campbell of Middlesex; Daughter & Son-in-Law, Christina & Walt Harris of Ocean Side, CA; Daughter-in-Law, Pam Campbell; Brothers, David Campbell of Selma and Martin Campbell of Wilmington; Sister, Carolyn C. White of Clayton; Grandchildren, Ashley Campbell, Kacey Campbell, Mackenzie Campbell, Kylee Campbell, Dylan Harris, Jacob Harris, & Brittney Pernell; Mother of his sons & friend, Becky Campbell; & Special Friends, John & Vickie Born.

Family will receive friends at the Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Benson immediately following the service and other times at the home of Charles, Jr. & Jenny Campbell, 141 Windsor Drive, Angier, NC.

Mrs. Addie Pope Sheppard

September 11, 2007

Hershey, PA: Mrs. Addie Pope Sheppard, age 77, of Hershey, PA, formerly of Coats, NC died Tuesday at Milton S. Hershey Medical Center in Hershey, PA. Funeral Services will be 11:00AM Saturday, September 15, 2007 at the Coats Community Church, Coats, NC. Officiating will be Dr. Jim Cochran and Michelle Sheppard. Burial will follow in the Coats City Cemetery, Coats, NC. A Memorial Service will be held 12:00 Noon Saturday, September 22, 2007 at Derry Presbyterian Church, Hershey PA.

Mrs. Sheppard was born December 22, 1929, in Harnett County to the late David B. & Zelda Byrd Pope. She was a devoted wife and loving mother. Mrs. Sheppard was preceded in death by a son, Robert Luke Sheppard. She was an accounting and business teacher at Bishop McDevit High School, Harrisburg Area Community College, and Milton Hershey Senior High School. She graduated from Coats High School in 1947, and graduated from Elizabethtown College with a BA in Business Education Cum Laude, and received her Master’s Degree from Penn State University. Mrs. Sheppard was also Treasurer of Sheppard and Son Builders, Inc. She retired in 2004. Mrs. Sheppard was a faithful member of Derry Presbyterian Church.

Surviving are, Husband of 58 years, Robert L. Sheppard; Daughters & Sons-in-Law, Lisa S. & Stephen Hackman of State College, PA and Holly S. & Steven Vordenberg of New York, NY; Son & Daughter-in-Law, Jon R. & Michelle Sheppard of Hershey, PA; Sisters, Laura Lassiter of Danville, VA, Glenda Denning of Dunn, NC, Janice Landen of West Jefferson, NC, and Diane Denning of Coats, NC; and 11 Grandchildren.

Family will receive friends at Rose & Graham Funeral Home in Coats from 6:00PM to 8:00PM Friday and other times at the home, 162 Jackson Street, Coats, NC.

Flowers are welcomed; however, memorials may be made to Coats Public Library, 243 S. McKinley Street, Coats, NC 27521.
