Leo Warren Barbee
(February 28, 1922 - October 4, 2011)

Leo W. Barbee, age 89 of Oakboro, passed away on October 4, 2011 at Stanly Manor of Albemarle.

The family will receive friends on Thursday, October 6 from 6pm until 8pm at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle.

At other times the family will meet at the home of his son, Buddy Barbee.

The funeral service will be held on Friday, October 7 at West Oakboro Baptist Church, Oakboro at 2pm, officiated by Pastor Joe Smith, with a 30 minute state.

Burial will follow at Oakboro Cemetery.

Mr. Barbee was born in Stanly County on February 28, 1922, to the late George Silas and Minnie Melinda Whitley Barbee.

He is also preceded in death by his wife, Virginia Whitley Barbee.

He is survived by a son, Buddy Barbee and wife Karen of Oakboro; daughters, Lisa Switzer and husband Ray of Pauline, SC and Lana Curlee and husband Forrest of Oakboro; grandchildren, Jennifer Cole, Ryan Switzer, Toni Curlee and Cheryl Greene; great-grandchildren, Jackson Cole, Emma Greene and James Greene.

Memorials may be made to West Oakboro Baptist Church Building Fund, 16803 Silver Road, Oakboro, NC 28129.

Gerald Raymond Burt
(December 19, 1934 - October 8, 2011)

Gerald Raymond "Jerry" Burt, 76, of Charlotte passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Presbyterian Hospital in Huntersville.

He was born on December 19, 1934 in Piqua, Ohio to the late Clarence Noreen and Helen Marie Evans Burt.

Services will be held at a later date.

He is survived by his wife, Joyce Elaine Schimmel Burt of the home; sons, Gerald R. Burt, Jr., Keith Burt, and James Burt; daughters, Colleen Place and Helen Maxwell; brothers, Clarence Jr., William, Robert, and Larry Burt; twelve grandchildren; twenty three great-grandchildren.

Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord is serving the Burt family.

Barbara Jean Crowell
(April 25, 1946 - October 1, 2011)

Barbara Jean Smith Crowell, 65, of 35710 Hathcock Road, New London, passed away on October 1, 2011 at Bethany Woods Nursing and Rehabilitation Center in Albemarle.

The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home, Albemarle on Monday, October 3, 2011 from 6 to 8 PM.

At other times the family will meet at her home.

The funeral will be in Hartsell Funeral Home’s Lefler Memorial Chapel on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at 11 AM.

Rev. Joe Smith will officiate and the burial will follow at Stanly Gardens of Memory.

Born April 25, 1946 in Stanly County, NC, she was the daughter of the late Avos Vons Smith and the late Hazel Klutz Smith.

She was also preceded in death by her brother, Avos “Jr” Smith.

She is survived by her husband of 47 years, Roger Franklin Crowell of the home; son, Terry Crowell of New London; grandchildren, Justin, Kari and Lainee Crowell; and brother David Smith of Albemarle.

She was retired from Perfect Fit, Richfield.

Jeffrey Berne Hamilton
(August 9, 1946 - September 20, 2011)

Jeffrey Berne Hamilton, 65, of Concord, NC passed away on September 20, 2011 in Hong Kong while on a business trip.

He was born on August 9, 1946 in Ogdensburg, NY to Rosemary Farrah Hamilton Kyer and the late William James Hamilton.

Jeffrey was a Maintenance Program Manager for Continental Airlines for the past 11 years, he was formerly with US Airways.

He was a veteran of the US Air Force, having served during the Vietnam war and received the National Defense Service Medal, Republic of Vietnam Medal, Air Force Good Conduct Medal, and the Distinguished Flying Cross.

Jeffrey was a member of Mensa, and Masonic Lodge # 720.

A visitation will be held at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord on Saturday, October 1st from 12 until 2 PM. Funeral services will follow in the chapel at 2 PM, with Masonic rites by his Lodge.

He is survived by his wife, Diane Baker Hamilton of the home; daughter, Jasmin Hamilton Keegan and husband Jonathan R. Keegan of Concord, NC; son, William James Hamilton and fiance Marisha Hetman of Raleigh, NC; mother, Rosemary Hamilton Kyer and husband Fred of Fine, NY; sisters, Cathy Burt and husband Rick of Hermon, NY, and Chris Trathen and husband Jim of DeKalb Jct. NY; grandchildren, Kelsey, Elizabeth, Matthew and Patrick Keegan; nephews, Brian Burt, Jim Trathen and wife Kelly, and their children Josh, Caleb and Rylee, Jeff Trathen and wife Sarah, and their children Collin, Johnny and Allison.

Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord is serving the Hamilton family with local arrangements.

Clara Morgan Walter
(April 4, 1927 - September 30, 2011)

Clara Lee Morgan Walter 84 of Cold Springs Road, Concord, NC, passed away on Friday September 30, 2011 at CMC- Northeast.

The family will receive friends from 3 until 5 p.m. on Sunday. October 2, 2011 at Hartsell Funeral Home in Concord, NC.

Funeral services will be held Monday, October 3, 2011, at 2 p.m. at Cold Springs United Methodist Church with a 30 minute state prior to the service.

The Rev. Neil Haynes and Rev. Leon Hawks will officiate. Burial will follow in the church cemetery.

Born April 4, 1927 in Stanly County to the late Ervin and Rosanner Morgan, she was preceded in death by six brothers; Glenn, Hugh, Jack, J.C., Bill, and Lloyd Morgan, two sisters; Pauline Furr and Arlene Murray.

She is survived by her devoted and loving husband of 63 years, Tony A.C. Walter, sons; Wayne and wife Rita and Terry and wife Jackie of Concord; grandchildren, Amy Measimer and husband Tiger, Jeff Walter and wife Carolina, and Aaron Walter all of Concord; three great-grandchildren; Laura, Cameron, and Mackenzie Measimer; one brother, Floyd Morgan of Washington DC and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was a member of Cold Springs United Methodist Church and the Martha Avett Sub group.

She retired from Earl’s Tire Store in 1990 as a bookkeeper and cashier.

She was also a member of the Women of the Moose.

Memorials may be made to Cold Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery Fund, 2550 Cold Springs Road, Concord, NC 28025.
