Harward Dry Efird
(August 27, 1930 - October 6, 2011)
Harward Dry Efird, 81, of Monroe, formerly of Oakboro, passed away Thursday, October 6, 2011, at Presbyterian Main Harris Hospice Unit in Charlotte.
The family will receive friends from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 8, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle.
The funeral service will be at 2:00 p.m. Sunday, at St. Martin’s Lutheran Church, where he was a lifelong member.
Pastor Judy Copeland will officiate.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
At other times, the family will meet at his home.
Mr. Efird was born August 27, 1930 in Stanly County to the late Ira P. Efird and Lona Dry Efird.
Survivors include his wife, Virginia Ledford Efird of the home; two sons, Howard Hayes Efird and wife, Paula, of Florence, SC, and James Wilson “Jimmy” Efird and wife, Janet, of Monroe; one daughter, Susan Efird Van Sickle of Matthews; grandchildren, Jessica Amanda “Mandy” Efird, Andrew Simpson Efird, Nathan Ira Efird, Jacob Wilson Efird, William Tanner Van Sickle, and Cameron Hayes Van Sickle; and one son-in-law, Bill Van Sickle
A graduate of Oakboro High School, he attended Lenoir-Rhyne College.
He was the owner/operator of Western Motor Company in Oakboro for many years.
Mr. Efird was a member of the Oakboro Lions Club, the Oakboro City Fire Department, and was Chairman of St. Martin’s Church Council.

Judy Kay Smith Simpson
(July 1, 1941 - October 9, 2011)
Judy Kay Smith Simpson, 70, of Monroe, NC, passed away Sunday, October 9, 2011, at Carolinas Medical Center – Union of Monroe.
Mrs. Simpson was born July 1, 1941, in Stanly County to the late Brady Franklin Smith and Verona Fay McCoy Hartsell.
The family will receive friends from 6 – 8 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 11, at Hartsell Funeral Home of Midland.
The funeral service will be at 4 p.m., Wednesday, with a 30 minute state, at Crooked Creek Primitive Baptist Church of Monroe.
Elder Charles Broadway and Elder Charles Smith will officiate with burial in the church cemetery.
At other times, the family will meet at her home.
Survivors include her husband of 53 years, Dewell Bernard Simpson, of the home; her daughters, Judy Macemore and her husband, Darren, of Monroe and Joy Hedenskog and her husband, Jason, of Wadesboro; grandchildren, Bradley Price, Dalton Macemore, Kaylan Hedenskog, and Miley Hedenskog; and sisters, Justine Hinson of Mt. Holly and Rachel Gillum of Mocksville.

Mary Alice Graham
(March 5, 1920 - September 21, 2011)
Mary Alice Lawton Graham, 91, of 7145 Little Avenue, Charlotte, NC, formerly of 28185 NC Hwy 73, Albemarle, passed away on September 21, 2011 at Elmcroft Assisted Living in Charlotte.
The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home on Sunday, September 25, 2011 from 6 to 7 PM.
The graveside service will be on Monday, September 26, 2011 at 11 AM.
Rev. Judy Copeland will officiate.
Born in Wilmington, Delaware on March 5, 1920, she was the daughter of the late Charles Balderson Lawton and the late Myrtle Jarman Lawton.
She was also preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, Edward Joseph “Ed” Graham, Sr.
She is survived by her son, Ed Graham, Jr. and grandson, Ed Graham, III, both of Charlotte, NC.
She was a homemaker and was very active with the Olympic Senior Games.
Rev. Farrell Lee Shimpock
(March 23, 1924 - October 6, 2011)
Rev. Farrell Lee Shimpock, 87, of 20808 Converse Road, Albemarle, NC passed away on October 6, 2011, at CMC NorthEast in Concord, NC.
The family will receive friends at Canton Baptist Church on Saturday, October 8, 2011 from 4 to 7 p.m.
At other times they will meet at his home.
The funeral will be at Canton Baptist Church, where he was a member, on Sunday, October 9, 2011 at 4 p.m. officiated by Rev. Mark Mabry and Rev. Yates Brooks.
Rev. Shimpock was born in Cabarrus County on March 23, 1924, to the late Oscar Charlie Shimpock and Lalar Mardecia Hopkins Shimpock.
He was also preceded in death by his sister, Beatrice Shimpock Burris Horn; and brothers, Herman Morrison Shimpock, Troy Daniel Shimpock, and Archie Ray Shimpock.
He is survived by his wife of 65 years, Doris “Dot” Thomas Shimpock; son, Edwin Thomas Shimpock and wife, Lynn, of Oakboro; daughters, Karen Shimpock Lowder and husband, Steve, of Badin, and Angela Shimpock Barbee and husband, Jeff, of Oakboro; grandchildren, Lainie Cribb, Lea Winter, Heather Campbell, Caleb Lowder, Erin Lowder, Charlie Lowder, Ashley Burgess, and Judson Barbee; and 12 great grandchildren.
Rev. Shimpock was a Baptist minister for 62 years and served his country in the US Air Force during WWII.
He served churches in Stanly, Cabarrus, Randolph, Rowan, Davidson, and Montgomery Counties.

Linda Baucom, 68, of Marshville, NC passed away on Tuesday, October 4, 2011 at Autumn Care of Marshville.
She was born on August 8, 1943 in Union County to the late William Clarence and Etta Viola Helms Baucom.
The family will receive friends on Sunday, October 16th at Hartsell Funeral Home of Concord from 3 to 4 PM.
A memorial service will follow in the chapel at 4 PM, with Rev. Scott Patterson officiating.
She is survived by: daughter, Cynthia Williams; son, Robert Connelly; brothers, Howard, Melvin, Thomas, Donald and James Baucom; sisters, Dorothy Maples, Myrtle Mullis, Edith Walker, Mo-He Arrington, Wanda Rowell, and Kay McManus; granddaughter, Amber Williams.
