Mary "Tannie" Frances Godwin

Mary Frances “Tannie” Pennnington Godwin, age 81 of 32423 Pennington Road, Albemarle, passed away on September 18, 2011 at Stanly Regional Medical Center, Albemarle, NC.
The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle on Wednesday, September 21, 2011 from 7pm until 9pm.
At other times, the family will meet at the home of her son, Don Godwin, 32423 Pennington Road, Albemarle.
The funeral service will be held at the Seventh-Day Adventist Church, Albemarle at 11 a.m. on Thursday, September 22, 2011, officiated by Pastor Tim Sheridan.
Burial will follow at Kendalls Baptist Church Cemetery.
Mrs. Godwin was born in Guilford County on March 16, 1930, to the late Jettus Edward Pennington and the late Nancy Angeline Niblock.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Bobby Gene Godwin and her brother, Don Pennington.
She is survived by sons; Don and Gary Godwin, both of Albemarle, daughter; Nancy G. Piquant of Simpsonville, SC; sister, Lois Mullinax of Vero Beach, FL; 5 grandchildren and 1 great-grandchild.

Wilma Ross Lambert
(October 31, 1922 - October 8, 2011)
Wilma Ross Lambert, age 88, of Albemarle, passed away on October 8, 2011, at her home.
The family will receive friends at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle on Monday from 6 until 8 PM. At other times, the family will be at the home.
The funeral service will be held at Canton Baptist Church on Tuesday at 11 AM, officiated by Rev. Mark Mabry.
Burial will follow in the church cemetery.
Mrs. Lambert was born in Stanly County on October 31, 1922, to the late Edmund Orestus Ross and Rebecca Penelope Deese Ross.
She is survived by husband of 68 years, Grover Lambert; daughter, Becky Helms and husband David of Marietta, Ga.; grandchildren Robin Helms of Woodstock, Ga. and Mark Helms and wife Rita of Raleigh; and brother, William Ross of Richfield and sister Ramelle Huneycutt of Albemarle.

Marie S. Little
(September 15, 1923 - October 8, 2011)
Marie S. Little, age 88 of Albemarle, passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Stanly Regional Medical Center.
A graveside service will be held on Monday, October 10, 2011 at 4pm at Stanly Gardens of Memory.
Mrs. Little was born in Stanly County on September 15, 1923 to the late Grover Cleveland and Milie Curlee Smith.
She is also preceded in death by her son, Curt Allen Little.
She is survived by a daughter, Susie L. Johnson of Albemarle; grandchildren, Blair Johnson-Schadt and Andrew Johnson both of Albemarle, and Kristi M. Treptow of Charlotte; great-grandchildren, Zachary Drew Baker and Piper Kensey Treptow.
In 2004, she was the recipient of the Order of the Long Leaf Pine Award, which is North Carolina’s highest civil honor.

Margaret Blanton Thompson
(January 10, 1926 - October 1, 2011)
Margaret Ruth Blanton Thompson, 85, of Marshville, NC, passed away Saturday, October 1, 2011, at the Rehabilitation and Nursing Center of Monroe.
Mrs. Thompson was born January 10, 1926 in York, S. C.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Arthur Brayley Thompson in 2007; her father, Earnest Ervin Blanton; her mother, Carrie Margaret Blanton; four brothers and one sister.
The family will receive friends from 1 – 2 p.m., Wednesday, Oct. 5, at Shiloh Advent Christian Church with the funeral service beginning at 2:00 in the church sanctuary.
Rev. Margaret Helms will officiate with burial following in the church cemetery.
At other times, the family will meet at the home of her daughter, Donna Stegall.
Survivors include her son, Arthur Lynn Thompson of Monroe; daughters, Donna Stegall of Marshville and Shirley Threet and husband, Marvin, of DeQueen, Arkansas; sisters, Deloris Watts, Bonnie Carter, Nellie Maness, and Barbara Henry all of Lancaster, S. C.; 12 grandchildren, 20 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-grandchild.

Howard King Smith
(September 8, 1925 - September 23, 2011)
Howard King Smith, 86, of 24389 St, Martin Rd Albemarle, NC passed away on September 23, 2011 at Stanly Regional Medical Center.
He was born on September 8th, 1925 to the late King David Smith and Lillie Forte Smith.
Mr. Smith was a very special person to many people.
He owned and operated Smith’s Supermarket in Locust.
He was a district supervisor with Pet Milk Co. in Albemarle.
He retired in early 1990 from Collins & Aikman.
He was a highly successful cattle farmer all of his life up until retiring in 2003.
Howard served in WWII as a Staff Sergeant with the 350th Infantry Regiment in Italy.
Mr. Smith is survived by his wife of 64 years, Vera Medlin Smith; a son, Walter Stephen (Steve) Smith; Two Grandchildren, Ashley (Neil) Smith and wife Emily Smith; Tara Smith Taylor and husband Adam Taylor; One Great Granddaughter, Kennedy Grace Smith; A brother, Spence Smith and wife Shirley Smith; Three Sisters; Opal Dennis, Dot Howell and husband Thurman, Harvie Ann Laton and husband Alton.
Mr. Smith is preceded in death by two sisters; Evelyn Morgan and Carrie Lee Forrest; Two brother; Harold Smith and Jack V. Smith.
He was a member of the NC and Stanly County Cattleman’s Association and a lifetime member of the DAV.
Mr. Smith loved his church family. He is of the Baptist faith.
The family will receive friends from 6-8pm on Monday, September 26, at Hartsell Funeral Home in Albemarle.
The funeral service will be held at 2 p.m., Tuesday, September 27, in the chapel at Hartsell Funeral Home of Albemarle, officiated by Pastor Larry Austin along with Pastors Ritchie Broadway and Branan Hooven.
The graveside burial will follow at Stanly Gardens of Memory.
