Harold Cloninger
KINGS MOUNTAIN - Mr. Harold C. Cloninger, 81, of 400 Maner Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at Kings Mountain Hospital.
Born in Gaston County, he was the son of the late John L. and Ethel Goldsmith Cloninger. He was a retired fabric designer from Minette Mills in Grover. He was a member of Macedonia Baptist Church and a World War II Navy veteran.
He is survived by his wife, Marian Ivey Cloninger of the home; a son and daughter-in-law, J. Scott and M. Kay Cloninger of Kings Mountain; six brothers and five sisters-in-law, John and Fanchon Cloninger of San Antonio, Texas, Bill and Jeanette Cloninger of Shelby, Kenneth and Doris Cloninger of Kings Mountain, Don and Faye Cloninger of Mooresville, Sam and Marie Cloninger of Gaffney, S.C., and Jerry Cloninger of Marion, Ohio; four sister, Grace Broome and Virginia Norris, both of Kings Mountain, Frances Strand of Eau Claire, Wis.; a grandson and his wife, Brian J. and Leah Cloninger of Gastonia; and a great-grandson, Jackson Cloninger.
The funeral will be Friday at 3 p.m. in the Ollie Harris Memorial Chapel of Harris Funeral home with the Rev. David Turner officiating.
Burial will be in Mountain Rest Cemetery.
The family will receive friends one hour before the service at the funeral home.

Randy Wimbush
SHELBY - Mr. Randy Lee Wimbush, 29, of 125 College Road, Apartment E-2, died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at Carolinas Medical Center in Charlotte.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church in Lawndale with the Rev. Billy Houze officiating. Burial will be in Webb Memorial Lawns.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church and at other times at 2030 Kings Road, Shelby.

WOODRUFF, S.C. - Mr. David Cullen O'Shields, 73, of 453 W. Peachtree St., died Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2002, at Spartanburg Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Cornerstone Baptist Church with the Revs. Doug Huntsinger and Carrol Caldwell officiating. The body will be placed in the church one hour before the service. Burial will be in Greenhaven Memorial Gardens.

LINCOLNTON - Mrs. Pauline Anderson Wilkes Czarnecki Idol, 79, of 580 Sherrill Farm Road, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2002, at Cardinal Health Care & Rehabilitation of Lincolnton.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Lincolnton Pentecostal Holiness Church with the Rev. Jerry Goodman officiating. Burial will be in Asbury United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday from 12:30 to 2 p.m. at the church.

'Bill' Lemons
ELLENBORO - Mr. William Martin "Bill" Lemons, 83, of 193 Arbian Drive, died Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2002, at home.
Born Dec. 17, 1918, in Cleveland County, he was the son of the late Radford and Nancy Roberts Lemons. He was a retired self-employed mechanic and member of Mount Olivet Baptist Church. He served in the Army during World War II.
He is survived by his wife, Alice Boone Lemons of the home; two daughters and a son-in-law, Patricia and John Willis and Kathrine Grigg, all of Ellenboro; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Lester M. and Rose Lemons and Buck W. Lemons, all of Ellenboro; two brothers, Carl Ray Lemons of Shelby and Charlie Lemons of Grover; four sisters, Adrean Evans and Ethel Warren, both of Shelby, Thelma Green of Lattimore and Margaret Spake of Charleston, S.C.; 12 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Clay-Barnette Funeral Home. Burial will be in Mount Olivet Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 7 to 8:30 at the funeral home and at other times at the home.
Avia Rice
SHELBY - Mrs. Avia Lee Poston Rice, 86, of 823 Buffalo St., died Monday, Jan. 28, 2002, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.
A native of Cleveland County, she was the daughter of the late Tom and Julia McCombs Rice. She was a member of St. Matthew Christian Fellowship Church and she worked for the Yarborough family for 25 years.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, James Rice; four brothers, Sam Poston, Tom Poston, John Daniel Poston and Elder Virgil Paul Poston; and five sisters, Docia Camp, Katie Borders, Ella Jay Davis, Ellen Poston and Lola Poston.
She is survived by three nieces, Celeste Mitchem of the home and Sarah Louise Barrow and Beatrice P. Eaves, both of Shelby; a nephew, Virgil F. Poston of Shelby; two great-nieces, Lola M. Thompson of Shelby and Linda P. Vinson of Winston-Salem; a friend, Faye McGill of Shelby; and other cousins, nieces and nephews.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at St. Matthew Christian Fellowship Church of God with Pastor Lizzie Poston and Bishop Thomas McCluney officiating. Burial will be in Webb Memorial Lawns.

Arthur Hoey
SHELBY - Mr. Arthur Edward Hoey, 70, of 2320 Mason St., died Friday, Jan. 25, 2002, at Civista Medical Center in La Plata, Md.
A native of Shelby, he was a son of the late John and Amanda Posey Hoey.
He was retired from Carolina Freight after 33 years as a truck driver. He also worked as a taxi driver for Carolina Cab Co. and was a member of Eskridge Grove Baptist Church, where he was a trustee.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Eva Boykins Hoey; two sons, Larry and Charles Hoey; and three brothers, J.B. Hoey, C.J. Hoey and Clyde Hoey.
He is survived by six children from his union to Nellene Brisco Hoey of Forestville, Md., including two sons, John Hoey of Shelby and Robin Hoey of Forestville; four daughters and two sons-in-law, Cheryl and Charles Sowell of Colorado Springs, Colo., Janice Jackson of Waldorf, Md., Kimberly Hoey-Goldring of Hyattsville, Md., and Teresa and Gary Thompson of Washington, D.C.; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Earl Hoey of Charlotte; James and Margaret Hoey, Anthony and Christine Hoey and Emmett and Maeola Hoey, all of Shelby; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Ethel and Benjamin Dawkins and Selma Brewton, all of Shelby; a great-aunt, Lizzie Tate of Gaffney, S.C.; three other sisters-in-law, Helen Hoey, Sarah Hoey and Mary Sue Hoey, all of Shelby; 17 grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be Thursday at 2 p.m. at Eskridge Grove Baptist Church with the Rev. Strickland Maddox officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
