Lottie Ross
GROVER - Mrs. Lottie Jimson Hamrick Ross, 91, of White Oak Manor died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
A native of Cleveland County, she was a member of the St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church.
She was preceded in death by her husbands, Jacob E. Hamrick and Coot Ross; two daughters, Katie Black and Brunetta Hepburn; one son, Charles Hamrick; and two stepsons, A.C. Ross and Emanuel Ross.
She is survived by a son, Jake Hamrick Jr. of Kings Mountain; two daughters, the Rev. Rebecca Bell of Grover and Retha Huskey of Patterson, N.J.; four stepdaughters, Christine A. Johnson of Blacksburg, S.C., Catherine Jones of Somerville, N.J., A. Evangelyn McLellan of Forestville, Md., and Pauline Pitt of Largo, Md.; four stepsons, John W. Ross of Norfolk, Va., Melvin Ross of Brooklyn, N.Y., Howard Ross of Albany, N.Y,. and King Willie Ross of Columbia, S.C.; 30 grandchildren; 30 great-grandchildren; 13 great-great-grandchildren; a stepgrandson, Larry Ross; 28 stepgrandchildren; 22 stepgreat-grandchildren; 3 stepgreat-great-grandchildren; relatives and friends.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at St. Peter Missionary Baptist Church with the Revs. Larry Dixon and William Thompson officiating. Burial will follow in the Long Branch First Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the funeral at the church.

Hilton Hamrick
SHELBY - Mr. Lloyd Hilton Hamrick, 75, of 111 Perry St., died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
Born in Cleveland County, he was former owner of Hamrick Grocery and Seasonal Plants. He was an Army veteran and served in the Korean Conflict with 180th Infantry, 45th Division. He was a member of Ross Grove Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Nester G. and Vera Blanton Hamrick.
He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth "Lib" Collette Hamrick of the home; a sister and brother-in-law, Lorene H. and Joe Leonard of Lincolnton; and a nephew, Joe Cain Leonard of Lincolnton.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Cecil M. Burton Funeral Home with the Revs. Gene Daggerhart and Cline Borders officiating. Burial will be in Ross Grove Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7:30 at the funeral home and at other times at the home.

Tommie King
LAWNDALE - Mr. Tommie Lee King, 84, of 118 Henry St., died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, at Presbyterian Hospital in Charlotte.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at Lawndale First Baptist Church with the Rev. Billy D. Houze officiating. Burial will be in the Philadelphia United Methodist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends 30 minutes before the service at the church.

'Eddie' Gardner
GOWENSVILLE, S.C. - Mr. Edwin "Eddie" Austin Gardner, 31, of Links O'Tryon, Gowensville, S.C., died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at his home.
Born in Cleveland County, he completed a course of study for mentally and physically challenged students at Lahainaluna High School in Maui, Hawaii. For 10 years he volunteered with his parents in Hawaii's "Youth with a Mission" and "Lightbringers," a program for the homeless. He was a member of St. John the Baptist Roman Catholic Church in Tryon.
He is survived by his mother and stepfather, Annie and "Tommy" Arledge of Links O'Tryon, Gowensville; his father and stepmother, Wayne and Windoll Gardner of Lake Norman; a stepbrother, Jeremy Gardner of the University of North Carolina-Charlotte; his maternal grandparents, Edwin and Catherine Spangler of Shelby and paternal grandmother Sara White Gardner, all of Shelby.
Services will be held at a later date.

Marceille Owens
CHERRYVILLE - Mrs. Marceille "Marcy" Browne Owens, 72, of 118 Paul H. Beam Road, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, at Cleveland Regional Medical Center.
The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church in Cherryville with Dr. Bill Lowe officiating. The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service. Burial will be in City Memorial Cemetery in Cherryville.
The family will receive friends Friday from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Stamey-Cherryville Funeral Home.

Marneese Hampton
BLACKSBURG, S.C. - Dr. Marneese Pershing Hampton, 83, of 201 N. Cherokee Ford Road Extension, died Tuesday, Jan. 22, 2002, at Spartanburg Regional Healthcare System.
A native of Cherokee Falls, S.C., he was the son of the late Lula Moss Hampton and John Hampton. He was pastor of Eastside Baptist Church for 47 years and worked at Burlington Industries from 1934 to 1956. He attended Blacksburg High School and Dan Greer Bible Institute. He was a self-taught musician, playing piano, guitar and mandolin. He was ordained into the ministry by Cherokee Falls Baptist Church on Nov. 28, 1954. He received an honorary doctorate from Covenant International Evangelistic Association and a proclamation and a key to the city from the Town of Blacksburg. He received a proclamation from Cherokee County Council on Nov. 1, 2001, for his service as pastor of Eastside Baptist Church and for Cherokee County.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Maybelle Martin Hampton; four brothers and two sisters.
He is survived by his son, Virgil Hampton of Blacksburg; two daughters, Phyllis H. Rape of Shelby and Sheila H. Smoke of Gaffney, S.C.; a brother, Paul Hampton of Blacksburg; a sister, Betty H. Champion of Blacksburg; six grandchildren, Tim Rape, Lisa R. Bloom and Alex Hampton, all of Blacksburg, and Susanne R. Duncan, Elizabeth S. Connelly and Gladden Smoke III, all of Gaffney; and 10 great-grandchildren.
The funeral will be today at 2 at Eastside Baptist Church with Drs. Kenneth Ridings and Ed McAbee and the Revs. James Talbert, Ansel Center, Horace Scruggs, Bobby Earls and Jamie Ellis officiating. Burial will be in Clingman Memorial Gardens, Blacksburg, S.C.
Pallbearers will be Tim Rape, Andre Bloom, Gladden Smoke III, Bobby Collins, Donnie Hampton and David Hampton.
Honorary pallbearers will be area ministers.
The family received friends Wednesday at Eastside Baptist Church and at other times will be at the home.

Raiford Jolley
CLIFFSIDE - Mr. Raiford Jolley, 67, died Wednesday, Jan. 23, 2002, at Beverly Health Care in Hendersonville.
He was a native of Cleveland County and was a member of Cliffside Baptist Church.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Burton and Quilla McCraw Jolley.
He is survived by two brothers, James B. Jolley and Bobby A. Jolley, both of Forest City; two sisters, Mable Sue Ruppe of Cliffside and Vander McCraw of Mooresboro.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. at McKinney-Landreth Funeral Home with the Rev. Ernie Cole officiating. Burial will be in Cliffside Cemetery.
The family will receive friends tonight from 6 to 7:30 at the funeral home and at other times at the home of Mable Ruppe, 150 Cobb Road, Cliffside.
R.B. Powell
LAWNDALE - Mr. Robert Benjamin Powell, 60, of 1320 Fletcher Road, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at Cape Coral Hospital in Florida.
Born in Cleveland County, he was a retired carpenter and served in the Navy.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Melvin Marvin and Annie Lou Clark Powell; a brother, Ronald Powell; and a sister, Doris Powell.
He is survived by a brother Rodney Powell of Shelby; and a sister, Donna Staymate of Fort Myers, Fla.
The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. in the chapel of Western Carolina State Veterans Cemetery at Black Mountain.

Ethel Shuford
LAWNDALE - Mrs. Ethel L. Shuford, 85, of 3846 Harris Creek Road, died Monday, Jan. 21, 2002, at her home.
Born Dec. 17, 1916, in Cleveland County, she was a daughter of the late Robert Eli and Bessie Ada Peeler Shuford. She retired from the dietary department at Broughton Hospital. She belonged to Palm Tree United Methodist Church, where she was a member of United Methodist Women.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by three brothers, Lawrence Shuford, Norris Shuford and Garland Shuford; and three sisters, Macie S. Lee, Cora S. Crowder and Lucy S. Freeman.
She is survived by a daughter and son-in-law, Adele and William Huegele of Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; two grandsons, William Todd Huegele and Richard Anthony Huegele; and two great-grandsons, Andrew "Andy" Huegele and Kevin Huegele.
The funeral will be Thursday at 3 p.m. at Palm Tree United Methodist Church with the Revs. Mike Harrill and Bill Smith officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.
The body will be placed in the church 30 minutes before the service.
