Swanson, Donald

Donald Swanson, age 72, 520 31st Avenue North, Fargo, passed away Wednesday, March 2, 2005, in his home.

Donald Ernest Swanson was born July 3, 1932, in Linton, ND, the son of Ernest and Ada (Saville) Swanson. He grew up in the Braddock, ND, area and graduated from high school in 1950. Following high school, he worked in a grocery store in Steele, ND. He was drafted into the U.S. Army in 1952, and served in Korea. Upon his discharge in 1954, Donald returned home to Bismarck, ND. He worked at National T Grocery Store in the produce department for four years. He then transferred to Minot, ND, for one year, and then to Harvey, ND, for four years. Donald was united in marriage to Sandra Gardner on June 23, 1963, in Rolla, ND. They moved back to Bismarck where Don worked as a salesman at Morrey Allen clothing store for four years. The couple moved to Newell, SD, where Don worked in a grocery store. They later moved to Mott, ND, where he worked at Dick=s Super Valu. They moved to Rolla, ND, in 1969, where Don worked in the Mercantile Clothing Store for almost 20 years. When the store closed, he went to work at Rolla Super Valu for four years. In 1989, they moved to Fargo, where he worked for SunMart and Osco Drug as a janitor. He retired in 1994.

Donald was passionate about square dancing and gardening, especially flowers. He also enjoyed working on puzzles and playing cards. He was a member of the Bismarck Eagles for over 40 years. Donald=s daughter and grandchildren were the pride and joy of his life.

He is survived by his wife, Sandy of Fargo; his daughter, Tanis Laducer (David Azure) of Fargo; four grandchildren, Amanda, Mathew, Chenoa, and Jessa Laducer; one brother, Kenneth (Jean) Swanson of Braddock, ND; and one sister, Janice (Emil) Vetter of Elgin, ND. He is also survived by one niece, two nephews, one great niece, and two great nephews.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are preferred to Hope Lutheran Foundation or the North Dakota Veterans Memorial cemetery in Mandan.

The funeral will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Hope Lutheran Church, North Campus, in Fargo. A prayer service will be held at 8 p.m. Friday in Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo. Visitation will be from 5-8 p.m. Friday in Boulger Funeral Home, and in the church Saturday one hour prior to services. Burial will be Monday at 1 p.m. in the North Dakota Veterans cemetery in Mandan, ND.

Paulsen, Janice

Janice Lee Paulsen, 60, Fargo, ND, died Wednesday, March 2, 2005, at Innovis Health, Fargo.

Janice Seim was born the daughter of Leonard and Margaret (Simenson) Seim in Sharon, ND. She grew up in rural Finley and graduated from Finley High School in 1962. In 1966 she graduated from Mayville State College with a major in elementary education.

She married her high school sweetheart, Gary Paulsen, on May 31, 1966. Janice taught one year in Hillsboro, ND, before coming to Fargo in 1967. She taught fourth grade for 34 years at Lewis and Clark Elementary School. At Lewis and Clark, she touched the lives of many students about whom she cared deeply. She leaves behind many dear friends who will miss her greatly.

She is survived by her loving husband of 38 years, Gary, of Fargo; mother, Margaret Haugen, Cooperstown, ND; one sister, Peggy Himebaugh, Duluth, MN; one brother, Leonard Seim, Hannaford, ND; two nieces, five nephews, and many loving relatives and friends.

The funeral will be Monday at 1 p.m. in Olivet Lutheran Church, Fargo. A prayer service will be held at 7 p.m. Sunday in Boulger Funeral Home. Visitation will be Sunday from 5-7 p.m. in Boulger Funeral Home, and in the church on Monday one hour prior to the service. Burial will be in Finley cemetery, Finley, ND.

Gerardy, Robert

Robert passed away on Thursday, March 3, 2005, at his home in Fargo at the age of 71, surrounded by his family under the care of Hospice of the Red River Valley.

Robert was born in New Ulm, MN, the son of Raymond and Corra (Olson) Gerardy, on May 23, 1933. He grew up in the Fairfax, MN, area where he attended school. In 1947, the family moved to Rugby, ND, and in 1948, moved to Fargo, ND. Robert continued his schooling and graduated from Fargo Central High School in 1951. He then attended North Dakota State Unversity College of Economics, graduating in 1956. Bob proudly served his country in the U.S. Army from 1956-58 at Fort Chaffee, AR. After his discharge, he returned to Fargo where he worked for the Ford Motor Company from 1958-68, the North Dakota Employment Service from 1968-69, and from 1969-72 at American National Insurance Company. He began working at American Life and Casualty Insurance Company in 1972, where he retired from in 1983.

Bob was an avid golfer and played on the Red River Valley Senior Golf Tour for a number of years. He also enjoyed all Bison athletics, especially basketball and football. Bob achieved a life long dream of attending a game at Yankee Stadium in 2001 with his nephew, Todd. Many good times were also spent at his lake home during the summers. Bob was a member of the Fargo Teammakers, the Fargo American Legion, and a charter member of Holy Spirit Catholic Church in Fargo.

Robert is survived by his loving sister, Rayetta (Kenneth) Senn of Fargo; his nephews, Jeff (Beth) Senn of Moorhead, MN, and Todd Senn of St. Louis, MO; his niece, Mary (Cody) Christenson of Park River, ND; and four very special great nieces and nephew, Christopher Senn, Caitlyn Senn, Samantha Blixt, and Amy Christenson.

VISITATION: 5-7 PM Sunday at Church of the Holy Spirit in Fargo - and also one hour prior to the funeral in the church on Monday

PRAYER SERVICE: 7 PM Sunday in the Church

FUNERAL MASS: 2 PM Monday in the Church

BURIAL: Holy Cross North cemetery in Fargo

Hill, Helen

Fargo, North Dakota

Helen Mary Hill, 85, 1645 9th Ave S., Fargo, died on Thursday, March 5, 2005 in Innovis Medical Center, Fargo, as a result of numerous medical problems.

Helen was born on February 24, 1920 in Drake, ND to John and Elizabeth (Bruner) Rutten. She grew up on a farm near Drake. She moved her family to West Fargo, ND and then to Wild Rice, ND in 1950 where she raised her two children.

Helen worked for Hobby Hut, Finest Auto Trim, the Fargo Holiday Inn, and Dakota Hospital as the night supervisor of housekeeping.

Helen married Edward Hill in August 1964. They made their home in Fargo, ND.

Helen’s health declined after her retirement, however her family and friends were constantly at her side.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Corelius “Con” Rutten, Andrew “Dick” Rutten, Anton “Tony” Rutten; her sister, Gladys “Gladdy” Lux; her husband, Ed; and her son, Richard “Cats” Hill.

She is survived by her daughter Alice K. Hill, Fargo; her sisters, Hazel Knoll, Fargo, Emily Anderson, South Field, MI, Veronica Rutten, Chicago, IL, Grace Fridgen, Moorhead, MN, and Matilda Kinsella, CT; brothers, Paul Rutten, Great Falls, MT, and William Rutten, Fargo; four grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren.

Visitation - 5-7 PM Monday at Boulger Funeral Home and also one hour prior to the funeral in the church Tuesday.

Prayer Service - 7 PM at Boulger Funeral Home

Funeral Mass - 1:30 PM Tuesday in the Church of the Nativity

Burial - Fairview cemetery, Wahpeton, ND

Flaa, Jasper

Jasper Flaa, age 94, formerly of Kindred, died on March 5, 2005 at Elim Care Center, Fargo, ND.

Jasper was born August 10, 1910 in Christine, ND to Ingvald and Petra (Johnson) Flaa, oldest of eight children. At the age of four, the family moved to Norquay, Sask. Canada. In his late teens Jasper moved to the Christine, ND area and worked. He married Dorothy Alber in Kindred, ND on March 16, 1938 and they farmed near Davenport until 1980, when they moved to Kindred, ND. They entered Pioneer House, Fargo, ND in 2001 and in 2004 Jasper moved to Elim Care Center.

He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; four sisters: Pernell, Trevena, and Luverne Stewart of Regina Sask., Muriel King (Perry) New South Wales, Australia, and Francis Dauncey (Morris) Surrey, British Columbia, Canada; two brothers: Ira (Peggy) Vancouver, BC and Allen (Marie) Lake Chapela, Mexico; and several nieces and nephews.

The funeral will be held at 2:00 pm at Kindred Lutheran Church on Tuesday, March 8, 2005. Visitation will be one hour prior to the service at the church.

Burial will be at the Davenport cemetery, Davenport, ND following the service.

Kantarevic, Alija

Alija Kantarevic, age 58 of Fargo, died Saturday, March 5, 2005 in his home.

Alija was born on August 15, 1946 in Bosnia to Ale and Hasiba Kantarevic. He moved to the United States in 1994 and worked with Pan-O-Gold Baking Company for 8 years.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Hasiba.

He is survived by his wife, Hatidza; children, Damir, Bahra and Hatidza (Safet) all of Fargo; his father, Ale of Bosnia; grandchildren, Dejlana and Leila of Fargo and many other friends and family.

The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 8 at 3:00 pm in Boulger Funeral Home chapel, Fargo. Burial will be in Springvale cemetery, Fargo. (Boulger, Fargo).

Werth, Larney

Larney J. Werth, age 58, Fargo, died Monday, March 7, 2005, in MeritCare Hospital, Fargo.

Larney J. Werth was born September 27, 1946, in Lehr, ND, the son of Leonard and Edna (Ley) Werth. He grew up in Jamestown, ND, and graduated from Jamestown High School in 1964. He moved to Fargo where he attended North Dakota State University. He was united in marriage to Gayle Colville on August 20, 1966, in Jamestown. The couple made their home in Moorhead, MN. Larney was employed at the Veterans Administration Hospital in the food service department, and at St. Ansgar=s Hospital in the physical therapy department and also as an orderly while attending nursing school at NDSU. He graduated from nursing school as a Registered Nurse in 1976 and began working at the Veterans Adminstration Hospital in 1977. He served as captain in the 311 Evac in the Army Reserves from 1981-90. Gayle died in 1996. Larney married Doris Duval Nelson on May 9, 1998, in Moorhead.

Larney served as Local 3884's President, and held many other positions of trust in the American Federation of Government Employees, including president of the 8th District VA Council. Larney=s commitment to working people never wavered and his good works endure.

He is survived by his wife, Doris of Fargo; three sons, Andrew (Sherri) Werth, Aaron (Darlene) Werth, and Benjamin (Andrea) Werth, all of Moorhead; two stepsons, Scott (Kris) Nelson of Bullsgap, TN, and Richard (Melissa) Nelson of Fargo; nine grandchildren; mother, Edna Werth of Jamestown; three sisters, Jannett Boss of Aloha, OR, Linda Landsrud of Renville, MN, and Pennie (Ernie) Bobian of Tomball, TX; and one brother, Russell (Betty) of Bowman, ND.

The funeral will be Friday at 2 p.m. in St. Mary=s Cathedral, Fargo. A prayer service will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. in Boulger Funeral Home, Fargo. Visitation will be from 5-7 p.m. Thursday in Boulger Funeral Home and Friday in the church one hour prior to services.

Froelich, Esther

Esther Froelich, Moorhead, Minnesota, formerly of Cleveland, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, March 9, 2005, at the Eventide Living Center in Moorhead, MN, at the age of 94.

Esther was born on March 2, 1911, in Cleveland, OH, where she grew up and received her schooling. After high school, Esther attended a secretarial college prior to her employment at a local hospital. She was united in marriage to Herman Froelich on April 15, 1942. They made their home in Cleveland Heights where they raised their family. Herman passed away in 1990, upon which Esther moved to the Judson Retirement Home. In 2003 Esther moved to the Fairmont retirement Home in Moorhead, MN, to be near her family. For many years, Esther was a member of the Church of the Savior Methodist Church in Cleveland Heights. She had a great love and talent for enameling and made many wonderful keepsake pieces that will be treasured by her family.

Esther is survived by her son, Andy (Nan) Froelich of Fargo, ND; her daughter, Marian (John) Gaydos of Candia, NH; and 6 grandchildren.

Memorial Services will be held at a later date in Cleveland.

Arrangements entrusted to the care of Boulger Funeral Home in Fargo.
