Vern Honeymann

A funeral mass for Vern Honeymann, 82, will be Monday, June 20, 2016 at 10:00 a.m. at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in New England with Father Biju Chitteth celebrating. Burial will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery in New England.

Vern passed away Wednesday, December 31, 2015 at CHI St. Joseph’s Health in Dickinson.

Vern was born March 29, 1933 in New England, the son of William L. and Magdalene (Bambusch) Honeymann. Growing up, he attended St. Mary’s Catholic School in New England through the ninth grade. In 1952, Vern went to serve our country with the United States Navy. He served in the Korean War from 1952-1956 and in the Vietnam War from 1963-1965 when he was honorably discharged. After the Navy he went to work for Boeing aircraft until he retired in 1995. Vern returned to New England where he was active with the American Legion and the Anton Ulijohn Post #0066. He was also a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Vern enjoyed model trainsets and he was a collector of model airplanes, state flags, hats and belt buckles.

Vern is survived by his sisters, Susan Brooks of Coeur d’Alene, ID, Caroline Camp of Covington, PA, Yvonne Fettig of New England, Mary Ann (Bill) Kelly of Klamath Falls, OR and Kathleen (Leo) Heck of Avon, MN, and numerous nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, William and Magdalene Honeymann; brother, Richard; sisters, Arlene Olsby and JoAnn Edwards.

Gertrude "Trude" Tuhy

The funeral Mass for Gertrude “Trude” Tuhy, 83, of Killdeer, will be 10:30 a.m., Saturday, June 18, 2016 at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church, Killdeer with Father Darnis Selvanayakam celebrating. Burial will follow the service in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Cemetery, New Hradec.

Visitation for Trude will be from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Friday at St. Joseph’s Catholic Church with a rosary & vigil service being held at 6:00 p.m.

Trude passed away Monday, June 13, 2016 at CHI St. Alexius Health - Dickinson surrounded by her loving family.

Gertrude “Trude” was born November 17, 1932 in Dickinson, the daughter of Anton J. and Helen (Jablonsky) Sadowsky. Growing up on the family farm/ranch near Manning, she attended New Hradec Catholic School through the eighth grade and Model High in Dickinson, graduating with the class of 1950. Trude married George Tuhy on May 29, 1951 at Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic church in New Hradec. The couple started their married life farming near South Heart. They were blessed with six children, Dan, Jane, Tom, Mary, Bob, and Ann. In 1965 they moved their family to a ranch north of Dunn Center and became a part of the Killdeer and Dunn Center communities. George and Trude became residents of Killdeer in 1991 and Trude made her final home at Hill Top Home of Comfort in October 2014. Trude enjoyed gardening, playing piano, sewing, reading, cooking her famous chicken noodle soup and baking. She found great pleasure in feeding her husband, children and grandchildren. Trude volunteered and helped in her community and her church as a member of South Heart St. Mary’s Altar Society, Killdeer St. Joseph’s Church secretary, St. Joseph’s Altar Society, taught Sunday school, served as a lector, and a Eucharistic Minister. She also served on the FHA Board, worked at the Killdeer Public Library and Western Livestock. Trude greatly enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and one of her greatest pleasures was visiting with family and friends. Her Catholic faith was important to her and she loved attending Mass. She will be remembered as a ‘prayer warrior’ and a care giver. She will be greatly missed by her family and friends who cherished her.

Gertrude is survived by her husband, George; children, Dan (Nancy) Tuhy of Dunn Center, Jane (Art) Perdue of Minot, Tom (Suzi) Tuhy of Dunn Center, Mary (Bob) Wheeling of Killdeer, Bob (Darlene-fiancé) Tuhy of Dunn Center, and Ann (Kim) Knutson of Dunn Center; 15 grandchildren, Steven (Danielle) Tuhy, Kelly (Jimmy) Fritel, Rachel (Travis) Kuehl, Shane Tuhy, Jeffery (D’Ann) Erickson, Katie (Shawn) Donahey, Karolyn Tuhy, Sean Tuhy, Mandy Wheeling, Jacob Wheeling (Fiance’ Brittany Bartsch), Kristi Knutson, Kelsey Knutson, Kristin (Rory) Faulkner, Jamie (Jake) Meidinger, Erik Tuhy; and 13 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Anton and Helen Sadowsky; brothers, Pete and Bob Sadowsky; sisters, Alice Flemming and Lydia Scherman.

Gene Buehner

A funeral service for Gene Buehner, 81, of Dickinson, will be 10:00 a.m., Friday, June 17, 2016 in the Stevenson Funeral Home Chapel in Dickinson with Pastor Tim Voth officiating. Burial will take place in the Dunn Center Cemetery.

Visitation for Gene will be 1:00 p.m. – 5:00 p.m., Thursday, June 16th at the funeral home.

Gene passed away Tuesday, June 14, 2016 at CHI St. Alexius Health Dickinson.

Gene Richard was born on December 27, 1934 at the McGown home in Killdeer, the son of Richard and Gladys (Knudsvig) Buehner. He attended school at Connolly No.2 North of Dunn Center where he grew up. Gene was a farmer/rancher his entire life. On November 11, 1955 Gene married Marlene Unterseher at the Zion Lutheran Church in Beulah, ND. To this union, Gerald Kevin was born. In 1962, the couple purchased the Herbert Hoffner farm nine miles north of Dunn Center, where Gene lived until his retirement. While living on the farm, Gene and Marlene took in Darrel Gilge, who became very close and Gene thought the world of him. Darrel spent many summers spending time with Gene. Gene later moved to his final home in Dickinson. Gene was an avid cowboy and loved ranching and being outdoors. He was noted as a good horseman. He always enjoyed attending livestock sales and visiting with the ranchers. Gene especially loved his grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Gene is survived by son, Kevin (Cheryl Lynn Tabor) Buehner of Dunn Center; three grandchildren, Cody (Jessica) Buehner, Austin (Emiley) Buehner, and Amos Buehner (special friend, Nicole) all of Dunn Center; four great-grandchildren, Eliza, Woodrow, Beau, and Grace.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Richard and Gladys; and brother, James.

Carol E. (Padden) McKinley

A graveside memorial service will be held Saturday, June 25, 2016 at 2:00 pm at the Fairview Cemetery in Camp Crook, SD.

Carol Electa (Padden) McKinley, was born on September 28, 1932 in Camp Crook, South Dakota to the late Easton and Sylvia Padden. Carol departed this life on April 18, 2016, at Munster Med Inn in Munster, Indiana surrounded by her family.

Carol graduated from Carter County High School in Ekalaka, Montana (1950). Carol graduated from the Holy Rosary Hospital’s nursing program in Miles City, Montana. Carol worked many years as a registered nurse. Carol married Gerald “Mac” McKinley in 1953 in Belle Fourche, South Dakota. They lived in Lansing, Illinois and were married 25 years when Mac passed away from cancer in 1978. To this union, four children were born which were Jim, Dan, Sylvia and John.

Carol was preceded in death by her husband Mac; her parents Easton and Sylvia Padden; siblings Paul Padden and Betsy May Kuntz.

Carol leaves to cherish her memories: one brother Benny (Dorothy) Padden; one brother-in-law Val Kuntz; one daughter, Sylvia (Jim); three sons, Jim, Dan (Cindy) and John; seven grandchildren Danielle, Samantha, Laurie, Taylor, John, Kyle and Sadie; devoted neighbors, Ray and Tracy VanWitzenburg and a host of family and friends.

Elsie Huether

A memorial service for Elsie Huether, 97, of Dickinson will be 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, July 30, 2016 at First Congregational Church, Dickinson, ND with Pastor Janel Kolar officiating. Burial will follow in Dickinson Cemetery.

Elsie passed away Saturday, January 2, 2016 at St. Luke’s Home in Dickinson.

Elsie Louise Schuetzle Huether was born on a ranch near Plevna, Montana on February 16, 1918. She died January 2, 2016 at St. Luke’s Nursing Home in Dickinson at the age of 97. In 1937, she was married to Rueben Huether and became a farm wife near Regent, North Dakota. They lived on this farmstead until 1953, working hard to develop it into a good living for themselves and their 3 children who were born during that time. Along with all the farm duties and raising children, Elsie served as a substitute teacher, was a 4-H leader and active in community organizations and the Zoar Congregational Church in Mott. At one time she even became a lady barrel racer in the Regent rodeo.

Elsie and her family moved to Dickinson in 1953. In Dickinson she was able to pursue her interests in sewing, crafts, art, stained glass, and gardening. She was active in leadership roles in the Dickinson Methodist Church and later the Dickinson Congregational Church. In the late 1960’s, she served as a North Dakota Democratic delegate to Washington, D.C. and then as a delegate and state chairperson at the 1968 National Democratic convention. She took leadership roles in the Badlands Art Club. She was a charter member of the Germans from Russia Heritage Society and served on its first board of directors. She helped develop and maintain the Stone House German historical museum in Dickinson. Elsie helped run several family businesses.

Elsie and Rueben traveled to many foreign countries and throughout the United States. During several of these travels, Elsie did research on a family ancestry book she authored. In the course of her extensive genealogy research she met many relatives.

Her husband, Rueben, and son, David, preceded her in death. She is survived by two daughters; Darleen (Don) Hjelmseth, Missoula, MT and Bonita (John) Paulson, Valley City, ND; one daughter-in-law, Mary Conlin Huether, Independence, OR; seven grandchildren; Jacqueline Hjelmseth (Scott) Fennell, Fort Thomas, KY, Jana Hjelmseth (Richard) Baker, Denver, CO, Jon (Liz) Hjelmseth, Bellingham, WA, Ami Paulson (Tony) Peruzzo, Mound, MN, Kris (Shannon) Paulson, Grand Forks, ND, Tara Huether (Fred) Roberts, Seattle, WA, Jasmine Huether, Portland, OR; eleven great-grandchildren; Madeline and Graham Baker, Daniel, Anna and Lily Fennell, Leigh Hjelmseth, Logan and Kadin Cole, Frederick and Liliana Roberts, and Aria Peruzzo; one brother, Reuben (Beverly) Schuetzle, Green Valley, AZ and one sister, Helen (Ruben) Oberlander, Miles City, MT; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Memorials may be made to the First Congregational Church, Dickinson, ND 58601.

Evelyn Austin

Funeral services for Evelyn "Nan" Austin, 80, of Marmarth, will be 2:00 p.m., Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at Stevenson Funeral Home, Baker, MT with Terry Bagley officiating. Burial will take place in Riverside Cemetery.

Evelyn passed away Sunday, May 22, 2016 at Fallon Medical Complex, Baker, MT.

Louise Anderson

A funeral Mass for Louise Anderson, 54, formerly of Belfield, ND will be at 1:00 p.m., Friday, June 10, 2016 at St. Bernard’s Catholic Church, Belfield with Father Bill Ruelle celebrating.

Ellen Rustad

Funeral services for Ellen Rustad, 95, of Baker, will be 10:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 25, 2016 at American Lutheran Church, Baker, MT with Pastor Bruce and Reba Kolasch officiating. Burial will take place in Bonnievale Cemetery.

Ellen passed away Friday, May 20, 2016 at Fallon Medical Complex, Baker, MT.

Hattie Steffan

A funeral Mass for Hattie B. Steffan, 91, of Dickinson will be 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, May 24, 2016 at Sts. Peter & Paul Catholic Church in New Hradec with Father Bill Ruelle celebrating. Burial will take place in Sts. Peter and Paul Cemetery in New Hradec.

Visitation for Hattie will be 1:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m., Monday, May 23 at Stevenson Funeral Home with a rosary and vigil service being held at 6:00 p.m.

Hattie passed away Friday, May 20, 2016 at St. Luke’s Home in Dickinson.

Hattie was born December 26, 1924 in Dickinson, the daughter of Frank W. and Mary L. (Novotny) Tuhy. Growing up she attended country school through the eighth grade and went on to graduate from South Heart High School. Hattie married Mansevtus Steffan on July 3, 1944 in Sts. Peter and Paul Catholic Church in New Hradec. They soon purchased a farm, making it home where they raised their eight children, Judy, Gordon, LaVonne, Galen, Joan, Leon, Neal and Nancy. In 1971, Mans and Hattie retired from the farm. Hattie was a devoted mother. Hattie will be remembered for the wonderful noodles she would often make. Hattie enjoyed family gatherings and time spent with her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She was an active member of St. Patrick’s Catholic Church and was a member of the Christian Mothers.

Hattie is survived by her sons, Gordon (Stephanie), Galen, and Neal (Rhonda); daughters, Judy Anderson, LaVonne Bullinger, Joan (Dave) Kudrna, Nancy (John) Stockert; 19 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Dorothy Tuhy.

She was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Mans; son, Leon; sons-in-law, Larry Bullinger and Chuck Anderson; daughter-in-law, Mavis Steffan; grandson, Shawn Chavez; sister, Amalia (Mollie) Kubas; and brothers, Vince, Laudie and infant Charlie Tuhy.
