Hazel F. Widick
Hazel Florine Widick, age 89, passed away on December 4, 1998 in Tuscon.

She was born Hazel Florine Goesch on February 6, 1909 in Farnam, Nebraska where she attended public school. She received her teaching certificate from Kearney State Teachers College and taught school briefly before settling into her role as loving wife, homemaker, cherished mother, and devoted grandmother.

On June 30, 1932 she married Merle Clayton Widick and together they raised their three children in Pinedale, Wyoming where they moved in 1936. She subsequently lived in different communities in Wyoming until moving to Tuscon in 1988.

She was devoted to her family, and never missed a grandchild's or great-grandchild's band concert, soccer game, graduation, or wedding. Her family was more important than anything else, and they will miss her terribly.

She is preceded in death by her husband Merle; son, Dennis; brother, Wilbur; and her parents. She is survived by her son Donald (Claudia) Widick; daughter, Carolyn (Lyle) Rolston; brother Courtney Goesch; 11 grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and two great-great-grandchildren.

A memorial service celebrating her life will be held Tuesday December 8 at 10:30 a.m. at St. Alban's Episcopal Church, 3737 N. Old Sabino Canyon Road.

Maurice Gene Widick
Spec 4 Maurice Gene Widick, son of Mr. & Mrs. Maurice (Bill) Widick of Moorefield died in action in Vietnam Sept. 15, 1967.

He was born in Gothenburg Sept. 5, 1946. He made his home with his parents until called to the service on November 22, 1965. He attended school in Farnam graduating with the class of 1964.

He leaves to mourn his passing his parents, M.C. (Bill) & Mildred Widick and three brothers, Frank at home, Bruce and Marsha of Kearney and Ralph, Madeline and children of Farnam. Grandmother, Mrs. Lottie Devine of Gothenburg. Grandfather, Mr. G.C. Widick of Farnam besides many other relatives and a host of friends.

Military services were held at the Farnam School gymnasium Sept. 22, 1967. Gene was buried beside his brother, Kent, who was killed in a tractor accident in July 1966.

Gene will be remembered by all who knew him for his cheerful and friendly personality.

Merle Clayton Widick
Merle Clayton Widick, the oldest son of Grover and Rose Widick was born April 22, 1910, at Smithfield, Nebraska. In 1923, the family moved to Farnam.

On June 30, 1932, Merle was married to Hazel Goesch.

In 1936 they moved to Pinedale, Wyoming, where they lived until 1963. At the time of his death he was living in Sheridan, Wyoming, where he was employed by the State Board of Equalization.

He leaves to mourn his wife, Hazel, two sons, Dennis of Bonneville, Utah, Donald of Rawlins, Wyoming, a daughter, Carolyn Rolston of Lander, Wyoming, his father, Grover Widick, three brothers, Maurice, Ellis and Orvale, a sister, Elaine Williams, all of Farnam, eleven grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

His devotion to his family and his friendliness and gaiety leave many pleasant memories for his family and friends.

Services were held at the Methodist Church in Farnam on May 5th with Rev. G. J. Herring officiating. Music was by Mrs. Audrey Kotschwar and Mrs. Deloras Nickerson with Mrs. Evelyn Davis, accompanist. Pallbearers were Ralph, Frank, Dan, Bruce and Reynolds Widick and Ronald Williams.

Interment was in Farnam cemetery with Masonic Rites at Graveside by Gothenburg Lodge No. 249 AF & AM.

Mildred Widick
Mildred Widick, 70, of Farnam, died Sunday at the Gothenburg hospital. She was born June 5, 1917, near Farnam to Frank and Lottie Gamill Devine.

She was married to M.C. (Bill) Widick on June 1, 1936, in North Platte. She was a member of the HOP Extension Club in Farnam and the Eagles Auxiliary of North Platte. She attended the United Methodist Church at Farnam.

Survivors include her husband M.C. (Bill); three sons and their wives, Ralph and Madie of Farnam; Bruce and Marsha of Malcolm; Frank and Cheryl of Moorefield; one brother Herald Devine of Portland, Ore.; one sister, Leila (Mrs. Roland) Gruber of Gothenburg; and eight grandchildren.

Mrs. Widick was preceded in death by two sons, Gene, who was killed in Vietnam, and Kent; and one sister, Eva. A memorial has been established to the Nebraska Boys Ranch of Alliance or the donor’s choice.

Services will be 3 p.m. Tuesday at the United Methodist Church at Farnam with the Rev. Charles Leypoldt officiating. Burial will be at the Farnam cemetery.

Ina Wilcox
Ina Mae Stoner was born April 18, 1888, at Sutton, Nebraska, and passed away at Kearney , Nebraska, on July 6, 1968, at the age of 80 years, 2 months and 18 days.

When a small girl, she moved with her parents to a farm south of Moorefield and then to a farm near Farnam.

On October 1, 1920, she was married to S.C. Wilcox. They then moved to Farnam in 1923 where they resided till her death.

She leaves to mourn her passing: her husband, S.C. Wilcox, one daughter, Mrs. Bernice Schnitzer of Omaha, one son, Russell Wilcox, one sister, Mrs. Esther Chittock of Santa Ana, California, two granddaughters, Marla and Sheila Wilcox and many other relatives and friends.

Roy Williams
Roy O. Williams, the youngest child of Eliza and E. C. Williams was born on a farm near Lexington, Nebraska, February 22, 1894. He attended country school.

In 1916 he moved to Colorado where he was engaged in farming and where he married and raised a family of one daughter, Irla, and one son, George.

Roy Williams returned to Farnam in 1941 settling at Farnam where he lived until failing health forced him to enter a care home. He passed away at a hospital in Gothenburg, Nebraska, June 20, 1968, at the age of 74 years, 3 months and 28 days.

He is survived by his daughter, Irla Goetschel of Fort Morgan, Colorado, a son, George Williams of Brush, Colorado; two brothers, Bert and Ed both of Farnam, Nebraska and many nieces and nephews.

Glen L. Wintermute
Glen L. Wintermute, a former resident of the Farnam area, died June 14, 1999, at St. John’s Center in Kearney. He was 93.

He was born June 2, 1906, to Benjamin and Mary Ellen Hansell Wintermute on a homestead south of Hay Springs. He grew up in that area close to the “Old Jules” family. He attended a rural school until moving to Kearney, where he attended Emerson Elementary. He graduated in 1927 from A.O. Thomas High School in Kearney.

On Jan. 1, 1937, he married Ruth M. Hicks in Farnam. They lived around Midwest, Wyo., where he had been homesteading and working in the oil fields.

The couple returned to the Farnam area in 1942, where he farmed and ranched until retiring in 1978. They then moved to Kearney.

Mr. Wintermute was a member of the Kearney First United Methodist Church and Open Circle Sunday school class, the Farm Bureau and “Old Cowboys” Nebraska Cattleman Association. The Wintermutes received several conservation awards for farming practices.

Survivors include his wife; a sister; and nieces, nephews and friends.

He was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.

Memorials are suggested to First United Methodist Church.

Services will be at 1:30 p.m. today at the church with the Rev. Ron Roemmich officiating. Burial will be in the Farnam cemetery.

Mabel Adkisson
Mabel Rose, daughter of Milton and Emma Rose, was born November 8, 1884, at Clay Center, Kansas. She passed away in the Cozad Hospital April 8, 1967 at the age of 82 years and 5 months.

As a small child she moved with her family to a farm south of Farnam. On November 3, 1902, she was united in marriage to John Adkisson. To this union 12 children were born. Her husband, mother, father, four brothers, three sisters, three sons, and one daughter preceded her in death.

Those left to mourn her passing are three sons and five daughters; Harry of Hastings, Dale of North Platte, Harold, Edna Hathaway, Stella Lehman, Zella Messersmith, and Hazel Williams of Farnam and Lula Stapp of Cambridge. There are 19 grandchldren, 25 great grandchildren, 2 sisters; Hazel Crow of Riverside, Calif., and Velda Grogan of Lucerne Valley, Calif.

Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. at the Farnam Methodist Church with the Rev. Conley Hinrichs officiating. Music was provided by Mrs. Anton Kotschwar, Mrs. Delores Nickerson and Mrs. Raymond Smith. Pallbearers were Russell Wilcox, Tom Vickers, Roger Goltl, Larry King, Raymond Tillotson and James Horn. Burial was in the Farnam cemetery.

Lois Lelia Anderson
Lois Lelia Anderson, 83, of Gothenburg, died Nov. 26, 1998, at North Platte following complications from knee replacement surgery. She was born on July 11, 1915, near Orafino to Milo J. and Goldie E. Kilburn Nickerson.

Her grandparents, James H. and Clarissa A. Stevens Nickerson and James W. and Estella M. Konkle Kilburn, as well as all eight great grandparents were early pioneers in the Orafino area of Frontier County.

Mrs. Anderson grew up in the Orafino community, attending the local rural schools and Orafino High school. During the 1930s she worked as a waitress and as a housekeeper for various families.

She was married on July 11, 1940, to Lyle S. Anderson at Bird City, Kan. In 1945, the family moved to the old Charles Swift farm southwest of Gothenburg where she lived for the last 53 years.

In 1941, she obeyed the Gospel and has been constant and steadfast in her faith in the Lord. For many years she taught Bible classes at Church of Christ services. She loved little children and had a special gift for working with them.

She was a devoted wife, a kind and loving mother, a good neighbor and friend, and was always honest in all her dealings. She valued hard work and ambition above most things in life and set a good example for her family, rising often at four in the morning to get an early start on her work. She raised a large garden and canned much of the family’s food. She was not a joiner or a leader in community affairs, preferring to spend her spare time with her family and church work. She was a very good cook and made the best pies and cookies. She also loved flowers and planted as many as she could care for. She will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved her.

Survivors include a daughter, Joleen (Sydney) Kite of Gothenburg; a son, Gary L. of Missoula, Mont.; two sisters, Gladys M. (Gordon) Cross of Farnam and C. Maxine (John) Yakich of Denver; three grandchildren, Bryan E. Kite, Valene M. (Ryan) Roseke and Aaron L. Kite; three great grandchildren and many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband Lyle; her parents; a sister, Helen G. Sheffield and four brothers, Donald, Harold, Delmar and Gene.

Wilbert D. Anderson
Wilbert D. Anderson, 74, of Brady, died March 12, 1999, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.

He was born March 31, 1924, at North Platte to Henning G. and Alice C. Sreaves Anderson. He attended Wickstrom School.

On Dec. 14, 1949, he married Norrene E. Bratten at Svea Dal Covenant Church. He farmed in Wild Horse Valley for most of his life. He also worked for the State Department of Roads from 1971 to 1977. Then he worked operating the road maintainer for the Lincoln County Road Department from 1977 to1989 when he retired.

Mr. Anderson was a member of the V.F.W., Svea Dal Covenant Church for 60 years and Gideons International

He accepted the Lord as a teenager and served the Lord all his life.

Survivors include his wife, Norrene of Brady; five daughters, Linda (Monty) Bowman, Carolyn (Boyd) Hicken and Michelle (Bryan) Hecox, all of Gothenburg, Jeanette (Scott) Thomas of Ft. Collins, Colo., and Joyce (Jack) Miettinen of Grand Island; a sister, Jewel (Forrest) Johnson of Farnam; three brothers, Ray (Alyce) Anderson of Holdrege, Delmar (Pauline) Anderson of Brady and Wendel (Marilyn) Anderson of Omaha; eight grandchildren, Kerri (Chip) Blowers, Kaysie Bowman, Lindsey Thomas, Ashley Thomas, Stacy Hicken, Ross Hicken, Jackie Miettinen and Jordan Miettinen; two great-grandchildren, Charlie and Brooke Blowers.

He was preceded in death by his parents and three brothers, Glenn, Verlin and Cecil.

Memorials are suggested to the Svea Dal Covenant Church or Gideons International

Services will be at 3 p.m. Tuesday at Svea Dal Covenant Church in Brady with the Pastor Ken Sawyer officiating. Burial will be in the Svea Dal cemetery.
