Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, April 29, 2002; 10:00 A.M. at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church with Father Andrew Menke officiating. Burial will be in Hanover Presbyterian Churchyard Cemetery, rural Adams County, Nebraska. No viewing or visitation.

February 1, 1950 in Grand Island, Nebraska to Maynard & Lauretta (Krull) Dill. She graduated from Hastings Senior High School and attended Baker University in Kansas. She was an accountant for Sprint Audit and attended St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church. She moved to Hastings, Nebraska from Kansas City, Kansas 2 years ago.

Louis J. Hohlfeld, 92, of #15 Kingston Dr., died Monday, July 1, 2002 at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital.
Mass of Christian Burial will be Friday, July 5, 2002; 10:00 A.M. at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church with Father Larry Gyhra officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.
Louis J. Hohlfeld was born
July 9, 1909 in Hastings, Nebraska to Oscar L. & Agnes J. (Kealy) Hohlfeld. On September 19, 1929, he married Lois Pringle. He owned and operated Hohlfeld paint company. Later he did decorative consulting. He was a life long area resident and a member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus #1123.
Louis J. Hohlfeld was preceded in death by his parents, 2 sisters and 1 brother.

Susan A. Schmidbauer, 94, of Perkins Pavilion, died Wednesday, July 3, 2002 at Perkins Pavilion.
Rosary service will be Sunday, July 7, 2002; 7:30 P.M. at Butler-Volland Funeral Home. Mass of Christian Burial will be Monday, July 8, 2002; 10:30 A.M. at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church with Father Larry Gyhra officiating. Burial will be in Roseland Cemetery, Roseland, Nebraska.
Susan A. Schmidbauer was born
June 10, 1908 in Adams County, near Juniata, Nebraska to Matt & Anna (Schneider) Weber. She married Joseph ‘Joe’ Schmidbauer on February 10, 1943 and he preceded her in death on February 16, 1987. They farmed in the Holstein, Nebraska area, retiring in 1965 and moving to Hastings, Nebraska. She was a homemaker and a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and Crosier Apostolate.
Susan A. Schmidbauer was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Joseph ‘Joe’, 4 brothers, Andrew, Francis, Anthony and Ambrose, 2 sisters, Rosella & Genevieve.

Kenneth D. Krull was born
January 20, 1922 in Glenvil, Nebraska to Frank & Lena (Schmidt) Krull. He married Ruth Snarr on October 20, 1944. He farmed in the Inland and Pauline Nebraska area and was a lifetime member of Hanover Presbyterian Church where he was a former officer of the board. He was a life long area resident.

May 23, 1912 in Hamilton County, Nebraska to Gustav & Ernestina (Brandt) Arndt. On September 13, 1936, she married Oswald Schaffert and he preceded her in death in 1994. They moved from Aurora, Nebraska to Hastings, Nebraska in 1956. She was sales clerk at Jarold’s Clothing Store for 6 years. She was a member of Redeemer Lutheran Church and Ladies Aid. She was a resident of Hamilton Manor for the past 2 years.

Carl E. Hemberger, 77, of 835 N. Saunders, died Tuesday, July 9, 2002 at BryanLGH Medical Center West, Lincoln, Nebraska.
Services will be Friday, July 12, 2002; 2:00 P.M. at Zion Lutheran Church, Hastings, Nebraska with Rev. Donald E. Boeschen officiating. Burial with military rites by Hastings veterans organizations will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.
Carl E. Hemberger was born
February 22, 1925 in Holstein, Nebraska to John & Anna (Kaiser) Hemberger. He served twice in the United States Army from December 28, 1948 to December 28, 1949 in the 2nd Division Corp of Engineers and again during the Korean War from October 28, 1950 to November 26, 1951 as a staff sergeant. On August 9, 1953, he married Marlys Kort at Zion Lutheran Church, Hastings, Nebraska. He was a mechanic for 38 years for Hastings Motor Truck, retiring in 1990. He was a life long area resident and a member of Zion Lutheran Church. He served on the church Board of Trustee’s and Board of Education. He was also a member of V.F.W.

Former Hastings resident, Joseph H. Hittner, 78, of Blue Hill Care Center, Blue Hill, Nebraska, died Thursday, July 11, 2002 at Blue Hill Care Center.
Services will be Monday, July 15, 2002; 10:00 A.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Rev. Dr. Sam Rathod officiating. Interment will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska at a later date.
Joseph H. Hittner was born
October 2, 1923 in Greeley, Nebraska to Jake & Meta (Anderson) Hittner. He graduated from Greeley High School and on October 5, 1942, he married Elizabeth Anne Tarr in Greeley, Nebraska. She preceded him in death in 1995. He served in the United States Army Air Force during WWII from April 13,1943 to April 20, 1946. He worked for the water department for the City of Hastings until 1966 and then owned and operated Joe’s 16th St. Service station until 1979. He then worked for the Hastings Daily Tribune until his retirement in 1989. He was a member of First United Methodist Church, lifetime member of V.F.W. #1346 and a past member of Eagles #592.
Joseph H. Hittner was preceded in death by his parents, wife, Elizabeth Anne and a son, Donald in 1993.

Hastings resident, Virginia E. Daugherty, 69, of 524 Lane J., Good Samaritan Village, died Sunday, July 14, 2002 at her home.
Memorial services will be Thursday, July 18, 2002; 10:00 A.M. at All Saints Chapel, Good Samaritan Village with Pastor Neil Vik officiating. Burial will be in Blue Hill Cemetery, Blue Hill, Nebraska. Luncheon at Senior Center, Good Samaritan Village, Thursday, July 18, 2002; 12:30 P.M. following graveside service.
Virginia E. Daugherty was born
May 4, 1933 in Hastings, Nebraska to Ray & Hilda (Krug) Lyon. She married Jewell Tomjack on May 11, 1951 and in 1972, she married Roger Daugherty in Hastings, Nebraska. He preceded her in death in 1988. She was a homemaker and a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, Blue Hill, Nebraska. She moved from Blue Hill, Nebraska to Good Samaritan Village in 1997.

Francis L. Sprenkle was born
February 27, 1929 in Spencer, Nebraska to Benjamin F. & Ruth (Pond) Sprenkle. He graduated from high school and attended college for 2 years. He served in the United States Air Force from 1948-1968. He married Betty Roeder on January 1, 1953 and she preceded him in death on December 16,1994. He moved to Hastings, Nebraska in 1968. He was a custodian at the Veterans Hospital in Grand Island, Nebraska, retiring in 1984. He was a member of the Berean Bible Church.
