Kathleen Bernice Consbruck

On October 27, 2003, Kathleen Bernice Consbruck, 62, of 221 W. 6th, joined her heavenly Father after a courageous battle with cancer.

Wake service will be Wednesday, October 29, 7:30 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, October 30, 2003; 10:30 A.M. at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church with Father Larry Gyhra officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

Kathleen Bernice Consbruck was born icon July 1, 1941 to Ralph & Irene (Bonifas) Mangers in Aurora, Illinois. She moved, as a small child, with her family to a farm southwest of Hastings, Nebraska. She attended Assumption Catholic Grade School and graduated from Holstein High School in 1959. She married Myron Consbruck on October 28, 1961 at Assumption Church. She was employed at Kansas-Nebraska National Gas Company from 1960 to 1964. She was employed part-time at Hastings Public Library from 1984 to 2003. She was a member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church and its Altar Society. She was also a member of Catholic Daughters of the Americas and of the Crosier Apostolate.

Kathleen Bernice Consbruck was preceded in death by her father, Ralph Mangers.

Doris Helen Hahn

Doris Helen Hahn, 80, of 510 South Rhode Island, died Sunday, October 26, 2003 at Blue Hill Care Center, Blue Hill, Nebraska.

Services will be Wednesday, October 29, 2003; 10:00 A.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel with Dr. W. T. Israel officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery.

Doris Helen Hahn was born icon February 26, 1923 in Hastings, Nebraska to Phillip & Margaret K. (Eckhardt) Hahn. She was a lifelong resident of Hastings and graduated from Hastings High School in 1941. She also attended Hastings Business College. She was an administrative secretary at the Hastings Regional Center. She was a member of the Second Presbyterian Church. She had been a member of the Soroptimist and Rebekah Lodge.

Doris Helen Hahn was preceded in death by her parents, two sisters, Marion Faulkner & Ann LaViolette, two brothers, Harold Hahn & Donald Hahn and a nephew, Timothy Hahn.

Mary C. Schmidt

Mary C. Schmidt, 80, of Hastings, Nebraska, died Saturday, October 25, 2003, at her home.

Rosary service will be Tuesday, October 28, 2003; 7:45 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel, Hastings, Nebraska. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, October 29, 2003; at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Hastings, Nebraska at 10:30 A.M. with Father Michael Houlihan officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

Mary C. Schmidt was born icon November 16, 1922 in Trumbull, Nebraska to Myron & Agnes C. (Frasier) Rader. She graduated from Trumbull High School in 1939. She married Raymond J. Schmidt on February 21, 1950, and he preceded her in death on January 31, 2001. She was retired from the Adams County Treasurer’s Office. She was a lifetime resident of the community, and a member of St. Michael’s Catholic Church and Altar Society.

Mary C. Schmidt was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Raymond J. Schmidt, and a sister, Janet Soucie.

Delmer F. Brandt

Delmer F. Brandt, 69, of 220 Pine, Harvard, Nebraska, died Wednesday, October 22, 2003 at his home.

There will be no services.

Delmer F. Brandt was born icon January 15, 1934 in Holyoke, Colorado to Ella Stinnette and was adopted by William F. & Edith S. (Saunders) Brandt and the age of 6 months. He attended school in Giltner, Nebraska. He served in the United States Army from May 7, 1956 to March 3, 1958. He was a farm hand in the Giltner area and also worked for Cargill Elevator in Aurora, Nebraska and later for Monforts in Grand Island, Nebraska. He married Mary Ann Fries on November 25, 1976 and she preceded him in death on October 19, 1986. He moved from Giltner, Nebraska to Harvard, Nebraska in 1987 and married Alice (Adams) Leichleiter on August 30, 1987. He was a member of Doniphan Methodist Church, Doniphan, Nebraska.

Delmer F. Brandt was preceded in death by his parents, brother and first wife, Mary Ann.

Bernice K. Edwards

Bernice K. Edwards, 82 of Perkins Pavilion, died Friday, October 17, 2003 at Perkins Pavilion.

Rosary service will be Wednesday, October 22, 2003; 10:00 A.M. at St. Michael’s Catholic Church with Mass of Christian Burial to follow at 10:30 A.M. with Father Michael Houlihan officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery, Hastings, Nebraska.

Bernice K. Edwards was born icon April 4, 1921 in Kansas to Peter & Effie (Musil) Baer. She graduated from high school and attended college. In 1941, she married Marmion Moses Lippincott and he preceded her in death in September of 1955. She did bookkeeping and office work for Lippincott Oil & Construction and ran the business after Moses death. They acquired the county farm in 1952 and also farmed near Roseland, Nebraska. She married Bruce Edwards on November 18, 1956 and they later divorced. She was a member of St. Michael’s Church, Elk’s Club and Does.

Bernice K. Edwards was preceded in death by her parents, husband, Marmion Moses, Sr. and one sister.

Survivors include,

Betty Connell
Kearney

Betty J. (Whitney) Connell, 75, of Kearney, owner of Grandpa’s Steakhouse in Kearney, died Tuesday, Oct. 14th at the Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney. Funeral services will be 2:00 P.M., Monday, Oct. 20th at St. James Catholic Church in Kearney. The Rev. Charles Torpey will officiate. Interment will be in the Kearney Cemetery. Visitation will be 4-7 P.M., Sunday at the church with a prayer vigil at 7 PM. Memorials are suggested to Kearney Catholic High School Foundation-Bud and Betty Connell Scholarship Fund or American Cancer Society or the Kearney Volunteer Fire Department. O’Brien – Straatmann – Apfel Funeral Home of Kearney is in charge of arrangements.

She was born icon on Oct. 26, 1927 in Kearney to Wert D. and Mary (Cassidy) Whitney.

She attended Kearney Public Schools and was a 1945 graduate of Longfellow High School. She was married to Howard “Bud” Connell in Grand Island on May 1, 1948. She worked for Safeway District Offices. In 1952, she and her husband opened and operated Grandpa’s Steakhouse until her death. Her husband died in 1993.

She was a member of the church, American Legion and VFW Aux., Nebraska Restaurant Association, Kearney Eagles and DOES. She was also was named in Who’s Who of Nebraska, and an honorary member of K.V.F.D.

Survivors include son; Jim of Tucson, AZ, daughter; Elizabeth “Libby” Merrifield of Kearney, 2 grandchildren; Kristen and Keyton, brothers; Carl Whitney of Kearney and Edward Jones of Carlsbad, CA, sister; Ollie Dady of Kearney.

She was preceded in death by her husband, 3 brothers, 1 sister and 2 step-sisters

Evelyn May Berg

Evelyn May Berg, 75, of 1608 Crestmoor Dr., Hastings, Nebraska, died Sunday, October 12, 2003 at her home.

Services will be Thursday, October 16, 2003; 10:30 A.M. at Christ Lutheran Church, rural Juniata, Nebraska with Rev. Greg Volzke officiating. Burial will be in Concordia Cemetery, rural Juniata, Nebraska.

Evelyn May Berg was born icon December 7, 1927 in Juniata, Nebraska to Earl & Nellie (Gish) Gangwish. She graduated from Juniata High School in 1945 and married Glenn Berg on June 1, 1947 in Juniata, Nebraska. She was a homemaker and an active member for over 50 years of Christ Lutheran Church, Ladies Guild, LWML, Extension Club with offices held in each, charter member of MLMH Auxiliary, volunteer at the American Red Cross Bloodmobile and worked the election board and canvassing board for many years. She was a life long area resident.

Evelyn May Berg was preceded in death by her parents, four brothers, one sister and one grandchild.

Ambrose Mitchell, 90, of 301 E. 4th, Hastings, Nebraska, died Sunday, October 12, 2003 at Blue Hill Care Center, Blue Hill, Nebraska.

Rosary will be Tuesday, October 14, 2003; 7:30 P.M. at Butler-Volland Chapel. Mass of Christian Burial will be Wednesday, October 15, 2003; 10:30 A.M. at St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church with Father Larry Gyhra officiating. Burial will be Wednesday, October 15, 2003; 2:30 P.M. at St. Gregory’s Cemetery, Marysville, Kansas.

Ambrose Mitchell was born icon February 12, 1913 in St. Bridget, Kansas to Thomas A. & Anna (Farrell) Mitchell. He married J. Pearl Misner on August 26, 1944 in Seneca, Kansas and she preceded him in death on October 23, 1998. He moved to Hastings, Nebraska from Marysville, Kansas in 1944. He was a conductor for the Union Pacific railroad and a member of St. Cecilia’s Catholic Church and U.T.U. He loved his job, hunting pheasants and the horse races in Grand Island, Nebraska.

Ambrose Mitchell was preceded in death by his parents, wife J. Pearl and a son James Dean Mitchell.
