Norman H. Kiuntke
Norman H. Kiuntke, 69, of Columbus, Nebraska, died Saturday, June 1, 2002 at the Columbus Community Hospital. A Mass of Christian Burial will be on Tuesday, June 4, 2002 at 10:00 AM at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church in Columbus with Father Tom Weisbecker officiating. Interment will be at 1:30 PM Tuesday at the Fairview Cemetery in Creston, Nebraska with Military Honors by the American Legion Honor Guard, Hartman Post 84. Visitation will be on Monday, June 3, 2002 from 3:00 - 8:00 PM with a 7:00 PM vigil service, and continue on Tuesday, June 4, 2002 from 9:00 - 9:45 AM all at the Gass Haney Funeral Home.
Norman Kiuntke was born
June 3, 1932 in Columbus, Nebraska to Walter and Rose (Aerni) Kiuntke Sr. He attended District 84 school. He worked on several farms as a youth before joining the US Air Force on February 15, 1952. After he was granted a medical discharge from the Air Force on May 2, 1952, Norm worked on a produce route, garbage route and then went to work for his brother at Home Plumbing. On September 12, 1957 Norm married Veronica Huhman. After 30 years with Home Plumbing, Norm opened Norm's Plumbing for 10 years, retiring in 2001. He was a Master Plumber. He was a member of St. Bonaventure Catholic Church and the American Legion. His hobbies included collecting antiques, going to auctions and gardening.

Gerarda "Sally" Louden, 88, of Columbus, Nebraska died Sunday, June 23, 2002 at the Good Samaritan Center in Scribner, Nebraska.
Services will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Thursday, June 27, 2002 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Gary Main officiating. Interment will be at the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM and on Thursday from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM all at Gass Haney Funeral Home.
Gerarda "Sally" Louden was born
July 29, 1913 in Baker, Oregon to Raymond and Elisa (Mynsberghe) DeBaets. She attended schools in Rising City, Nebraska. She married Benjamin K. Louden on December 8, 1934 in Osceola, Nebraska. They lived in Columbus for over 60 years. Sally was employed by Swift & Co. and retired from Becton-Dickinson Co. She was a member of the First United Methodist Church and Eastern Star.

Werner F. Cattau
Werner F. Cattau, 86, of Columbus, Nebraska died Monday, June 17, 2002 at the Columbus Community Hospital.
Services are Thursday, June 20, 2002; 10:30 AM at Christ Lutheran Church rural Columbus with Rev. John E. Nelson, Jr. officiating. Interment will be at Christ Lutheran Cemetery. Visitation is on Wednesday, June 19, 2002 from 3:00 - 8:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Thursday from 9:30 - 10:30 AM at the church with a family prayer service at 10:15 A.M.
Werner F. Cattau was born
January 29, 1916 in rural Columbus, Nebraska to William and Clara (Rosche) Cattau. He received his education at school District #46 - Platte County and Christ Lutheran School rural Columbus. He was confirmed into the Lutheran faith at Christ Lutheran Church. He married Elsa L. Otte on November 16, 1941 at Christ Lutheran Church. Werner was a lifelong Platte County dairy farmer, a member of Christ Lutheran Church where he held numerous offices over the years and he had also served on the the Sherman Township Board. For the past 15 years he and Elsa made their winter home in Arizona. Memorials are suggested to Christ Lutheran Student Aid Fund or Concordia University, Irvine, CA.

Sara Elizabeth Launer, 86, of Columbus, died Sunday, March 17, 2002 at Beverly Healthcare in Columbus.
Services will be held at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Thursday, March 21, 2002 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Richard Bringewatt officiating. Interment will be at Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus. Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Wednesday, March 20, 2002 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM and at Immanuel Lutheran Church on Thursday, March 21, 2002 from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM. There will be a family prayer service at 10:15 AM Thursday at the church.
Sara E. Launer was born
April 20, 1915 to Edwin H. and Rose (Bondurant) Burr. She graduated from Lincoln High School and attended Midland Lutheran College in Fremont, Nebraska. She married Edwin H. Launer on November 1, 1943 in Lincoln, Nebraska. Sara was a civilian employee at the Lincoln Air Base during World War II. She taught school for one year in Marquette, Nebraska. Sara was a member of Immanuel Lutheran Church and had been a member of the Evening Guild and Couples Club at the church. She was a member of the Nebraska Retired Teachers Association. She was past president of the Extensionettes and Brite Lites Extension Clubs, past president of the American Legion Auxiliary and a past member of the Hospital Guild. She moved to Columbus in 1993.

Viola L. Klug, 95, of Stromsburg, Nebraska, died Sunday, March 03, 2002 at Midwest Covenant Home in Stromsburg. Services will be held at St. John's Lutheran Shell Creek, Rural Columbus, Nebraska on Wednesday, March 06, 2002 at 2:30 PM with Rev. Peter Jark-Swain officiating. Private family interment will be held at 2:00 PM Wednesday at the Calvary Cemetery in Rural Platte County. Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Tuesday, March 5, 2002 from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM.
Viola Louise Klug was born
October 23, 1906 in Colfax County near Richland, Nebraska to William F. and Caroline (Korte) Loseke. When she was very young, the family moved to a farm northwest of Platte Center, Nebraska. She attended Post View Elementary School. Viola was baptized on Nov. 18, 1906, and confirmed on April 9, 1922, and has been a life-long member of St. John's Lutheran Church, rural Platte County, Nebraska.
Viola married Werner J. Klug on October 14, 1925 at St. John's Lutheran Church. They lived and farmed north of Richland until 1981 when they moved to Columbus, Nebraska. When Werner's health began to fail, they moved to the Midwest Covenant Home, Stromsburg, Nebraska in 1988. Werner passed away in 1989.
Viola always enjoyed getting up early to work in her flower garden and keeping her lawn beautiful until her later years. Up until 9 months ago, Viola enjoyed crocheting and making baptismal napkins for church. The last one's didn't quite get finished. Viola was very interested in her family and friends activities. She enjoyed playing cards, reading and keeping up on current events.

Linda Sue Kapels, 48, of rural Columbus, Nebraska died March 8, 2002 at her home. Services will be held on Tuesday, March 12, 2002 at 10:00 A.M. at St. John's Lutheran Church ( 14 miles north of Columbus on 48th Ave. or 14 miles north on 18th Ave., 2 miles west, 1/2 mile north) with the Rev. Brad Birtell officiating. Interment will be at the parish cemetery. Visitation will be held on Monday, March 11, 2002 at Gass Haney Funeral Home from 3:00 PM to 8:00 PM and on Tuesday, March 12, 2002 from 9:00 AM until service time at the church. There will be family prayer service at 9:30 AM Tuesday at the church. Memorials are suggested to St. John's Lutheran Church or family choice.
Linda Kapels was born
September 6, 1953 in Columbus, Nebraska to Joseph and Adelia (Blohm) Hilger. She graduated from Scotus High School. She married Roger Kapels on September 1, 1973 at St. John’s Lutheran Church (LCMS) rural Columbus.
She and her family lived on their farm 13 miles north of Columbus until her death. She was a devoted wife and mother and her life centered around the Lord and her Christian family. She particularly enjoyed teaching the children at St. John's Sunday School and Vacation Bible School along with the interaction with the youth at Lakeview Sr. High School in the cafeteria, where she worked as a cook. She cherished her moments on the family farm tendering to her flowers, gardening, and working beside her husband for the past 28 years.

Clara V. Ernst, 87, was born
August 13, 1913 in rural North Bend, NE to Charles and Mattie (Zehr) Burmood. She graduated from high school in Bellwood, NE. On June 21, 1933, Clara married Lester C. Ernst in Columbus. She was a homemaker.
Clara was a life member of PTA and a former member of the Eastern Star. She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary, a member of the Leaf & Petal Garden Club, St. Luke's United Church of Christ and active in the church circles. She was a lifetime area resident. Clara worked at the Irene Shop and at Levine Brothers.
