Harold Kamrath
Harold Kamrath, 80 of Columbus, Nebraska died Sunday, December 10, 2000 at his home.
Services will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church Columbus, NE on Wednesday, December 13, 2000 at 10:30 AM with Rev. Douglas Zurek officiating. Interment will be at the Trinity Cemetery No. 1 in Newman Grove on Wednesday at 2:00P.M. with military honors by American Legion Post 263 of Silver Creek. Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Tuesday, from 4:00 PM - 8:00 PM and at Trinity Lutheran Church Columbus, NE on Wednesday, from 9:30 AM - 10:30 AM.
Harold Kamrath was born
August 8, 1920 in Norfolk, Nebraska to Herman and Caroline (Mauer) Kamrath. He served in the Coast Guard during World War II from October 3. 1942 to March 15, 1946. Harold married LaRue Anderson on June 20, 1948 at Trinity Lutheran Church in Newman Grove, Nebraska. They farmed north of Lindsay, Nebraska then moved into Lindsay and he drove a truck for Behlen Manufacturing Co. They moved to a farm southwest of Columbus, Nebraska where they lived for 35 years and moved to Columbus in 1988. Harold was a member or Trinity Lutheran Church, Eagles, American Veterans and American Legion Post 263 in Silver Creek, Nebraska.

Ida Ann Menke
Ida Ann Menke, 88, of Columbus, Nebraska, died December 20, 2000 at the Columbus Manor. Services will be held at Shell Creek Baptist Church on Saturday, December 23, 2000 at 10:00 AM with Rev. Will Sanborn officiating. Interment will be at the Shell Creek Baptist Cemetery in Rural Columbus.
Visitation will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Friday, December 22, 2000, from 3:00 PM - 8:00 PM and at Shell Creek Baptist Church on Saturday, December 23, 2000, from 9:00 AM - 10:00 AM. A family prayer service will be held at 9:45 AM, Saturday at the church.
Ida A. Menke, 88, was born
on a farm five miles east of Platte Center, Nebraska to William and Hulda (Albers) Menke on September 10, 1912. She was the middle of seven children. After graduating from District 35 School, she moved in with her grandparents in Columbus to attend and graduate from Kramer High School. Later she took one year of Business Administration at Luther College in Wahoo, Nebraska.
She spent the next several years on the farm looking after elderly relatives, or, in come cases, children of ailing mothers. When her grandparents needed help, she moved back into town to live and take care of them. After their death, she was approached by Dr. Neumarker to come to work and live at St. Mary's Hospital in Columbus. On March 5, 1940 she began her work at St. Mary's. In 1956 an LPN course was offered at St. Mary's and upon completion she took her State Boards. When the two Columbus hospitals merged (St. Mary's and Behlen Memorial), Ida was given a room at the hospital, now known as Columbus Community Hospital. She circulated from surgery, to central supply and emergency room care. She was on call for the hospital 24 hours a day.
In 1982, she was awarded the Sertoma Service to Mankind Award. She was a member of Shell Creek Baptist Church. She will be remembered as one who had sympathy, care and love for the sick, needy and injured.

Scott H. Mohrman, 49, of Black Canyon, Arizona (formerly of Columbus, Nebraska), died Tuesday, December 12, 2000 at the Hospice of the Valley in Glendale, Arizona. Services will be held at Shell Creek Baptist Church on Monday, December 18, 2000 at 1:30 PM with Pastor William Effa officiating. Interment will be at the Shell Creek Baptist Cemetery in Rural Columbus. Visitation will be held on Sunday, December 17, 2000 from 3:00 PM until 8:00 PM at the funeral home and one hour prior to the service on Monday.
Scott H. Mohrman, 49, was born
March 30, 1951 in Columbus, Nebraska to Melvin and Nadine (Welch) Mohrman. He graduated from Columbus High School in 1969 and worked a few years at Becton Dickinson. He later moved to Black Canyon City, Arizona where he was self employed. He enjoyed hunting and trapping.

Richard E. (Rick) Mason
Richard E. (Rick) Mason, 53 of North Platte, Nebraska, formerly of Columbus, Nebraska, died Saturday, December 23, 2000 at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, December 28, 2000 at 2:00 PM at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte and on Friday, December 29, 2000 at 1:00 PM at Gass Haney Funeral Home in Columbus with the Rev. Dr. Paul Rowoldt officiating. Inurnment will be at a later date in Andover, Illinois. Memorials are requested to the American Diabetes Association.
Richard E. (Rick) Mason, 53, was born
October 19, 1947 in Clinton, Iowa to Warren and Phyllis (Brodd) Mason. After graduating from North Platte High School and attending Kearney State College, Rick spent most of his professional career in the criminal justice and law enforcement fields; which he began as a youth counselor at the Nebraska State Boys Reformatory in Kearney.
Rick first served the Columbus Police Department from May 1971 - May 1976. He then became a road patrol deputy for the Platte County Sheriff's Department, serving in that capacity from June 1976 - March 1978. After running and being defeated for the Platte County Sheriffs position in 1978, Rick was hired by his opponent in January 1979 and continued service to the department until November 1992.
Beginning in January 1979, Rick first served as Platte County's road patrol sergeant and although he was shot and seriously wounded in November of 1979, he recovered and returned to duty, rising to the dual position of chief deputy and investigator. He also served as Platte County Sheriff from July 1982 until January 1983. For a three-month period, he held the position of Chief of Police for Columbus. During this period, the Platte County Sheriffs Office, Fraternal Order of Eagles and Columbus Optimist Club recognized Rick three times with the "Law Officer of the Year Award". His most recent work activities in North Platte were with the First National Bank and the Lincoln Connection.
Richard had been a foster parent to several male youths by not only providing direction, friendship and financial assistance; he also opened his home to them through the past 20 years.

Mary Luschen Mueller
Mary Luschen Mueller, 83, of Columbus, NE died Friday, December 29, 2000 at the Edgewood Vista Care Center in Columbus.
Memorial services will be held at Gass Haney Funeral Home on Saturday, January 06, 2001 at 11:00 AM with Rev. Don Wilson officiating. Private family interment will be at the Roselawn Memorial Cemetery in Columbus.
There will be no visitation.
Mary Luschen Mueller was born
October 30, 1917 in Columbus, Nebraska to John R. and Martha (Zollars) Luschen. She attended Third Ward School and graduated from Kramer High School in 1935. Mary was a National Honor Society Member. She graduated from Van Sant School of Business in Omaha, Nebraska. Mary worked for the State Labor Department in Lincoln, Nebraska and then the Nebraska State Employment Service in Columbus. She married Elden D. Mueller on April 6, 1941 at the Federated Church in Columbus, Nebraska. Elden and Mary lived in Omaha and Ft. Worth, Texas after their marriage, returning to Columbus in 1945 when Elden was transferred overseas. She then worked in the Contact Office of the Veterans Administration. Later she worked for many years as a legal secretary for Louis Lightner. After the death of her father she was associated with and a co-owner of Luschen Grocery Store , which he had founded in 1913, she worked at the store until it was sold in 1966.
Mary was a member of the Federated Church, where she had been a lifetime member. She sang in the church choir for over 30 years. She was a member of the CH PEO Sisterhood-Harmony Chapter #13, Order of the Eastern Star, Naphis Temple of the Daughters of the Nile, Nile Club in Columbus and the Platte County Historical Society. She was active many years with the Friends of Music Association and had served as a board member. She was a past board member of the Community Chest and a past member of the VFW Club.

John Nyffeler, 77 of Columbus, Nebraska died Sunday, December 31, 2000 at Columbus Community Hospital.
Services are Wednesday, January 3, 2001 at 2:00 P.M. at St. Luke's United Church of Christ with Rev. Nancy Peebles officiating. Burial will be in Roselawn Memorial Cemetery. Visitation will be on Tuesday, January 2, 2001 from 3:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. at Gass Haney Funeral Home and on Wednesday, January 3, 2001 from 1:00 P.M. to 2:00 P.M. at St. Luke's United Church of Christ . A family prayer service will be at 1:45 P.M. at the church.
John Nyffeler was born
November 27, 1923 in rural Platte County Nebraska to John F. and Grace (Born) Nyffeler. He attended District 8 School and graduated from Duncan High School. John married Marjorie Parry on December 27, 1946 in Columbus, Nebraska. He lived and farmed all of his life on the family farm located 3 miles west of Duncan, Nebraska and recently moved into Columbus. John enjoyed hunting ducks and pheasants, fishing, playing horseshoes, cards and watching sports on television. He was a member of St. Luke's Church, past District 8 school board member, a former member of Isaak Walton and Swiss Mannerchor.

Private family services will be held Monday, August 21, 2000 at St. Bonaventure Catholic Church, Columbus, NE, with Father Dan Keller officiating. Burial will take place at St. Bonaventure Cemetery.
