Bessie E. Carson
Bessie E. Carson, 85, of Grand Island, formerly of Olpe, Kan., died Monday, May 5, 2008, at St. Francis Medical Center. Burial of ashes will be at a later date in Pleasantridge Cemetery in Olpe. All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Mrs. Carson was born icon March 23, 1923, at Lyon County, Kan., to William and Hannah McCullough. Survivors of the immediate family include her husband, Joseph Carson; a daughter and son-in-law, Carolyn Sue and Gary Wilson of Grand Island; a brother, Frank McCullough of Columbus, Ind.; and a sister, Wilma Carson of Olpe, Kan. Other survivors are grandchildren, Michelle Crabtree, Laurie Parmenter and Becky William; and great-grandchildren, Christina, Tyler, Katie, Paul, Kurtis and Trevor. Her parents and a sister, Edith Brown preceded her in death. Bessie was raised at Olpe, where she graduated from high school. She received her teachers' certificate from Emporia State College. She married Joseph Carson on May 3, 1943, at Wichita, Kan. They made their home in Olpe where she worked in retail. They moved to Grand Island three years ago to be nearer to their daughter and son-in-law. Bessie and Joseph celebrated their 65th Wedding anniversary this past Saturday. Bessie was a member of Olpe Methodist Church. She enjoyed spending time with family and camping.

Fern M. Chase
Fern M. Chase, 100, of Grand Island, died Saturday May 24, 2008, at Bickford Cottage.

Services will be 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Abundant Life Christian Center. The Rev. Stephen Warriner will officiate. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at All Faiths Funeral Home.

Mrs. Chase was born icon Jan. 24, 1908, at Esbon, Kan., the daughter of Guy and Myrtle (Smith) Hancock.

Her husband, Lawrence, preceded her in death in 1985.

Survivors of the immediate family are her son and daughter-in-law, Lonnie and Maryetta Chase of Bennett, Colo., and a brother, Milford Hancock of Red Cloud.

Also surviving are grandchildren, DeAnn and Howard Hassett of Grand Island, David and Kathy Chase of Marquette; great grandchildren, Jason Douthit, Brooke Musick, Sara Shinkfield, Tifany Albrecht, Ashley Chase, Nathan Hassett, Seth Hassett, Jennifer Baitz; and great-great grandchildren, Jake Douthit, Kailyn Douthit, Joshua Douthit, Kaden Musick and Lane Albrecht.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Deborah Chase Douthit; a great-grandson Joshua Douthit; and nine brothers and sisters.

At the age 3, her family moved to Colorado in a covered wagon and later moved back to Esbon, Kan., where she graduated from high school.

She was united in marriage to Lawrence Lyle Chase in 1928 at Red Cloud. They lived in Esbon and western Kansas before moving to Grand Island in 1944.

Fern was a Luzirs Cosmetic Consultant for over 25 years.

She was a member of Trinity United Methodist Church and the Roberta Rice Circle. She and her husband enjoyed camping, belonging to the Happy Wonderers Camping Club. Fern enjoyed playing cards, crocheting, growing flowers, watching birds, and most of all, spending time with all of her grandchildren, praying for them faithfully.

Memorials are suggested to the food pantry.

Lydia (Glienke) Christensen
Lydia (Glienke) Christensen, 78, of Grand Island died Thursday, May 29, 2008, at her home.

Services will be at 11 a.m. Monday at Trinity Lutheran Church in Grand Island, with a family prayer service at 10:45 a.m. The Rev. Royce Rinehart will officiate.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Sunday at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island.

Worship and Interment will be at 1 p.m. Tuesday in Elk Township Cemetery at Alta, Iowa, with memorial services following at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday at St. John's Lutheran Church at Hanover, Iowa. The Revs. Herman Glienke and David Lyons will officiate.

Mrs. Christensen was born icon Dec. 7, 1929, on the family farm near Alta, Iowa, the daughter of Herman and Marie (Hinkeldey) Glienke. She was raised, receiving her education at St. John's Lutheran School. She was united in marriage to Harold Christensen on Oct. 29, 1950, at St. John's Lutheran Church. They moved to Grand Island in 1967.

She was an active member of Trinity Lutheran Church, and served on many church committees, LWML, Lutheran Layman's League and many other organizations. She was a volunteer at Grand Island Nebraska Veterans Home and St. Francis Medical Center.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children, Robert (Rhonda) Christensen of Alta, Iowa, Rebecca Christensen McLean (George) of Lincoln, Sherri Martinez (Marty) of Ames, Iowa, and Kevin Christensen of Grand Island; brothers and sisters, Albert and Marilyn Glienke of Aurelia, Iowa, Herman and Delores Glienke of Hialeah, Fla., Marie Lichtenberg of Alta, Iowa, Dorothy and Dwaine Hinkeldey of Alta, Iowa, Ernst and Beverly Glienke of Aurelia, Iowa, Martin and Jeanne Glienke of rural Alta, Iowa; sisters-in-law, Lorraine Glienke of rural Alta, Iowa, and Elma Hansen of Scottsdale, Ariz.; brothers-in-law, Harold Lussman of Storm Lake, Iowa, Willard Schmidt of Alta, Iowa and Willard and Florence Christensen of Storm Lake, Iowa; eight grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and many nephews and nieces. In addition to her husband, Harold, who died April 7, 1998, she was preceded in death by her parents; a brother, Henry; sisters, Esther, Alvina and Emma; and a brother-in-law, Lyle Lichtenberg.

In lieu of flowers, memorials are suggested to Heartland Lutheran High School or Trinity Lutheran School.

Gary W. Clark
Gary W. Clark, 59, of Grand Island died Tuesday, March 11, 2008, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Graveside services will be at 2 p.m. Thursday at Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul, with military honors.

There will be no visitation. Mr. Clark was cremated. All Faiths Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.

Mr. Clark was born icon Feb. 26, 1949, at Grand Island to Baisel W. and Roberta (Wright) Clark.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Donna.

Survivors of the immediate family include a son and daughter-in-law, Travis and Alisha Clark of Grand Island, and a sister, Glenda Tuma of Grand Island.

Also surviving is a granddaughter, Kia Clark.

His parents and a niece, Renee, also preceded him in death.

Gary graduated from St. Paul High School, class of 1966. He entered the United States Navy on July 3, 1969, serving on the USS Saratoga. He was honorably discharged on July 2, 1976. Following the military, he worked for Diabold and Silent Watchman. Due to ill health, he retired in 1995.

Memorials are suggested to the family.

Julia Campos
Julia Campos, 87, of Grand Island died Wednesday, May 14, 2008, at home with her family by her side.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at St. Mary's Cathedral in Grand Island. The Rev. Vince Parsons will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 3 to 7 p.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home, with a parish rosary at 7.

Mrs. Campos was born icon Jan. 9, 1921, at Grand Island to Jacinto and Isabelle (Ramirez) Aguilar.

Her husband, Victor Campos, preceded her in death in 1999.

Survivors of the immediate family include two sons and daughters-in-law, Benny and Joann-Janc Campos and Arthur and Jeanene Campos, all of Grand Island; two daughters and a son-in-law, Gloria and Kit Johnson of Loomis and Monica Campos of Grand Island; three sisters and a brother-in-law, Eva Vasquez, Mary Buckner and Jenny and Jerry Guardiola, all of Grand Island; four brothers and two sisters-in-law, Stanley Aguilar, T.J. and Bonnie Aguilar, Seraphine 'Bear' and Diane Aguilar and Manuel Aguilar, all of Grand Island; and two half sisters and a brother-in-law, Ginger and Alfonso Arvizo of Grand Island and Esther Perales of Rock Falls, Ill.

Those also left to cherish her memory are grandchildren, Monica Reilly, Ruddene Kanter, Tonya Baker, Todd Campos, Martie Campos, Michael Berumen, Julie Robles and Brian Campos; and 11 great-grandchildren and a great-great-granddaughter.

In addition to her husband, she is preceded in death by her parents and a sister, Jesse Trejo.

Julia was raised and received her education in Grand Island. She was united in marriage to Victor Campos on Feb. 29, 1940. They made their home in Grand Island, where Julia worked at Twin Rivers Egg Plant, the Ordnance Plant, and Union Pacific Rail Road for 19 years, Redman's Mobil Home, Bonnevilla Mobile Homes, and the Nebraska Veterans Home and for the past 12 years as a cafeteria monitor at Lincoln Elementary.

She is a member of St. Mary's Cathedral, the Catholic Daughters of America, and served as a Eucharistic Minister. Julia enjoyed spending time with family and friends and was known at Lincoln Elementary as 'Grandma Julia.'

Memorials are suggested to St. Mary's Cathedral, the American Cancer Society or to St. Francis Hospice.

Margaret Dillon
Margaret Dillon, 70, of Grand Island died Sunday May 11, 2008. Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Francis Curran will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home, with a Christian wake service at 7:30. Mrs. Dillon was born icon Dec. 19, 1937, at Chester, S.D., to Clifford and Marie (Oltmanns) Moeller. Survivors of the immediate family include her husband, Larry; two daughters and sons-in-law, Kelly and Ken Lesiak of Fullerton and Karey and Keith Killion of Grand Island; three sons and daughters-in-law, Daniel and Carol Dillon of Billerica, Mass., Wayne and Dorothy Dillon of Altamonte Springs, Fla., and Jeff and Laurie Dillon of Olathe, Kan.; and a brother and sister-in-law, Curt and Julia Moeller of Hastings. Those also left to cherish her memory are grandchildren, Maggie, Makenzie, Kyle, Danielle, Cole, Casey, Kirby, Amanda, Kylie, Jacob, Matthew and Falyn. Her parents and brothers, Ron and Len Moeller preceded her in death. Margaret was raised in South Dakota until the 6th grade, moving to Kenesaw where she graduated from Kenesaw High School in 1956. She was united in marriage to Larry Dillon on June 23, 1958, at Kenesaw. They lived in Salem and Boelus, before moving to Grand Island in 1962. She worked as a loan officer for First National Bank that later became Wells Fargo. She then worked and retired from Grand Island Abstract and Title Company. She is a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Alpha Alpha Sorority, and a sewing group and volunteered at church and St. Francis Medical Center. She loved to read, enjoyed gardening, cooking, traveling and most of all spending time with family. A memorial fund will be established in Margaret's name.

Ernest Leonard Dobesh
Ernest Leonard "Ernie" Dobesh, 86, of Grand Island died Monday, April 21, 2008, at St. Francis Medical Center.

Services will be at 9 a.m. Saturday at Grace Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The Rev. Daniel Bremer will officiate. Burial with full military honors will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.

Visitation will be from 4 to 7 p.m. Friday at All Faiths Funeral Home, with family present after 6.

Survivors of the immediate family include his wife of 61 years, Wilma; three sons and daughters-in-law, Cletis and Beth Dobesh of Omaha, Gregory Dobesh of Grand Island and Michael and Patty Dobesh of Wood River; two sisters, Lillian Johnson of Holdrege and Margaret Skalka of Doniphan; and a sister-in-law, Margie Dobesh of Kearney.

Also left to cherish his memory are grandchildren, Jon Dobesh of Lincoln, Brad and Kelly Dobesh and Jennifer Dobesh, all of Wood River and Klesha and Josh Miller of Crete; two stepgrandsons, Josh and Jake Van Pelt; five great-grandchildren and a stepgreat-grandson.

Ernie, as he wanted to be called, was born icon July 31, 1921, at Spring Ranch in Clay County, to John and Mary (Barta) Dobesh. At a young age, he went to work in Aurora at Hamilton County Hybrid Seed Company, where later he became foreman. In 1942, he took a voluntary induction in the Army, served in the Chemical Warfare Service and was honorably discharged in 1945. In 1947, he graduated from the International Detective Training School of Washington, D.C., and worked in that field at various times until his death.

After his Army service, he began work in Kearney at the Cornhusker Hybrid Seed Company as production manager. He also worked part time at the Kearney Foundry and Well Drilling Company, and was a tax assessor for Buffalo County. He was one of the first to introduce anhydrous ammonia in the state of Nebraska.

Ernie married Wilma Bangert on Sept. 15, 1946, at Zion Lutheran Church southwest of Lawrence. In early 1952, Ernie and his family moved to a farm northeast of Wood River and began farming, and were still involved until his death. During that time, they also farmed in the Atkinson area.

Ernie was a member of Grace Lutheran Church in Wood River for many years and served on the building committee, finance committee and was church treasurer. He was on the District 76 School Board and served as treasurer. He was the leader of 76 Huskers 4-H Club, and was past ASCS committee man and FmHA committee man. He was appointed to serve on the draft board during the Vietnam War. During that time, two of his sons served in the Army.

He was a forerunner in the early years of Husker Harvest Days. Later he was the farm manager and took over the farming of the site, the exhibit area and test plots for a number of years. Ernie was a past member of the Chamber of Commerce, the AIN board and the Industrial Foundation. He was a past member of the Grand Island Rotary Club, and a Paul Harris Fellow. He was a member of the American Legion Club, Platt Duetsche Society, the Saddle Club, and a board member of Crime Stoppers. He was an Admiral in the Great Navy of the State of Nebraska and a member of the Grand Island Port.

In late 1983, Ernie and his wife moved to Grand Island from the farm. They transferred to Grace Lutheran Church in Grand Island. In 1988, Ernie was elected to the City Council from Ward 2 and in 1990 he was elected Mayor. After his term he spent his time at the farm. He enjoyed ice fishing, playing cards, visiting with friends and family.Ernie's parents and sister, Julie Davidson, and brother, Justus, both of Kearney, preceded him in death.

Burel Wayne Doll
Brighton, Colo., Burel Doll, 64, of Brighton, Colo., died Friday, June 13, 2008, at the Presbyterian St. Luke's Hospital in Denver.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island. Burial will be in the North Logan Cemetery north of St. Paul.

Visitation will be from 9 a.m. until service time.

Mr. Doll was born icon on April 4, 1944, in Unionville, Iowa, to Hollie and Ruth Doll.

Survivors of the immediate family include a daughter, Deborah Doll of Brighton, Colo., and two sons and a daughter-in-law, Mark Sems of Brighton and Brian and Kimberly Sems of Thornton, Colo.

He had five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Lana, daughter of Ray and Rhoda Christensen of Grand Island.

He attended Moravia High School, where he graduated in 1962. Burel worked at Sundstrand Aviation in Denver for more than 40 years.

He enjoyed hunting and traveling and was a car and motorcycle enthusiast.

Memorial contributions may be made to the Mid-Iowa Council Boy Scouts of America at PO Box 3009, Des Moines, IA 50316-0009.

Donald L. Dory
Donald L. Dory, 45, of Winfield, Ala., formerly of Grand Island, died Thursday, April 3, 2008, at Winfield.

Services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Rev. George Wheat will officiate.

Burial will be at 3:30 p.m. Wednesday in Custer Center Cemetery west of Broken Bow with military honors by the U.S. Marine Corps.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. until service time Wednesday at the funeral home.

Mr. Dory was born icon Aug. 23, 1962, in Broken Bow to James and Sherrill Dory.

Survivors of the immediate family include one son, Tyler Dory of Winfield; one daughter, Jovanne Dory of Omaha; his father, James Dory of Grand Island; his mother and stepfather, Sherrill and Ronald Adams of Winfield; and one brother, Michael Dory of Grand Island.

His grandparents and aunt May Reed preceded him in death.

Donald served in the United States Marine Corps from 1981-83. He was honorably discharged as a lance corporal. Donald had been a resident of Winfield for the past 12 years. He attended Bevill State College at Fayette, Ala. Donald retired from Doster Construction, working in Winfield. He was a volunteer at Winfield Hospital at the reception desk and volunteered at the Salvation Army.

He was a museum coordinator for the Car Nut Club and attended Faith Fellowship Church, both in Winfield.

Memorials are suggested to the Salvation Army or to a church of the donor's choice.
