Janice Rawlings
ST. PAUL -- Janice Rawlings, 46, of St. Paul died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.
Private family burial services will be on Wednesday morning at the Wallace Cemetery. Public memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at the Wallace Methodist Church with Perry Edwards officiating.
There will be no visitation.
A memorial has been established.
Bullock-Long Funeral Home in Grant is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Rawlings was born
on Nov. 22, 1953, at Sutherland to Don and Donna (Trusty) Lundvall. She attended school at Wallace until the seventh grade, when her family moved to Grand Island. She graduated from high school in Grand Island.
She married Roy Dent in 1972 at Albuquerque, N.M. They lived in several places before she returned to Grand Island.
She married Leslie Rawlings on July 24, 1993, in Grand Island. They lived in St. Paul. She graduated from the University of Nebraska at Kearney in 1998 with a degree in social services. She moved in August 1999 to her parents' home in Grant, where they helped as she battled cancer.
She is survived by her husband, Les; two daughters, Jennifer (Mrs. Eric) Adler of Basalt, Colo., and Kimberly Dent of St. Paul; a grandson; her parents; two sisters, Karen (Mrs. Dean) Franklin of Wallace and Kelli (Mrs. Scott) Holechek of Lincoln; and one brother, Tim Lundvall of Wallace.
Helen Spencer
BROKEN BOW -- Helen M. Spencer, 81, of Broken Bow, died Sunday, April 16, 2000, at Jennie Melham Hospital in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. Luther Casey will officiate. Burial will be in the Lone Tree Cemetery at Weissert.
Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Church of God at Weissert or the Custer County Hospice.
Mrs. Spencer was born
Feb. 7, 1919, on the family farm near Sargent to Charles and Mabel (Grint) Roe. She attended country school near Sargent and was a graduate of Sargent High School. She attended the Grand Island Business School.
She married Howard M. Spencer on Feb. 18, 1943 at Dayton, Ohio, while Mr. Spencer was in the service during World War II. After his discharge, they returned to their home near Weissert. They lived on a farm until moving to their home in Broken Bow in 1962. Mrs. Spencer worked at the Custer County Treasurer's office for many years.
She was a member of the Church of God at Weissert and attended Christian Women's Club.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Roe of Broken Bow; four grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; one sister, Allona Pirnie of Weissert.
She was preceded in death by one brother and one daughter, Rita Stunkel.
Ruby Petzoldt
Ruby M. Petzoldt, 79, of Grand Island died Tuesday, April 11, 2000, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Friday at St. Pauls Lutheran Church. The Rev. Joel Schroeder will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the church or the American Cancer Society.
Mrs. Petzoldt was born
on May 14, 1920, on a farm between Doniphan and Giltner to Giat and Emma (Kroeger) Spiehs. She attended District 38 School. She worked for a time doing domestic house work and then for J.C. Penney.
She married Elmer Petzoldt on March 15, 1944, at St. Pauls Lutheran Church in Grand Island. The couple farmed near St. Libory for two years and then moved to the Spiehs farm between Doniphan and Giltner, where they farmed until their retirement in 1991. The couple then moved to Grand Island. Mr. Petzoldt died on April 7, 2000.
Mrs. Petzoldt was a member of St. Pauls Lutheran Church and the Deepwell Extension Club.
Survivors include a daughter, Carol (Mrs. Wayne) Schroeder of Grand Island; a son, Lavern Petzoldt of Doniphan; eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; one great-great-grandson; and one brother, Raymond Spiehs of Cairo.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Rudolph, Alfred and infant brothers George and twins Leonard and Giat Jr.
James Rejda
BURWELL -- James Vaclav Rejda, 97, of Burwell died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, at the Sargent Nursing Center.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the United Methodist Church in Burwell. The Rev. Michael Laing will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday at Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mr. Rejda was born
to Josef and Marie (Jambor) Rejda. He attended school through the eighth grade, then farmed and ranched.
He married Anna Henrietta Raburck on March 5, 1935, at Omaha. In 1969, he wrote a history of the Jungman Hall Lodge and the community surrounding it. It was printed in the Ord Quiz on Oct. 16, 1969, and again on June 28, 1973. After retiring, he wrote his family's history in the late 1970s.
He enjoyed hunting, fishing and traveling.
He was president of the Jungman Hall Lodge for 48 years until the hall dissolved in the 1970s.
Survivors include a son, Don of Burwell; a daughter, Dahli Rejda of Carmel, Calif.; six grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife, five sisters and five brothers.
Adrian Remington
ORD -- Adrian A. Remington, 74, of Ord died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, at the Veterans Affairs Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at the Ord United Methodist Church. The Rev. James B. Miller will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery with military rites by the Ord Veterans of Foreign Wars and the American Legion.
Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the church or Ord Township Library.
Mr. Remington was born
on Feb. 28, 1926, at Danbury to Walter and Mary (Abbott) Remington. He graduated from Danbury Public Schools in 1944.
He entered the U.S. Army in September 1944 and served in World War II. He was wounded at Okinawa, received a Purple Heart and was discharged in December 1945.
He attended McCook Junior College and graduated from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln in 1951.
He married Norma Long on July 8, 1951, at Ord. They lived at Beaver City. Mr. Remington taught young farmers in the Arapahoe and Beaver City areas for two years. The couple moved to Ord, where they farmed. He retired from farming in 1980.
The Environmental Protection Agency recognized Mr. Remington for an underground greenhouse he designed and built in 1981. For the past 20 years, the couple had operated the greenhouse, selling wholesale and retail goods. Mr. Remington also represented Saxton Fruit of Idaho for the past 20 years.
He was a lifetime VFW and Disabled American Veterans member. He served as past president of the Production Credit Association and the Ord Co-op Elevator. He was a member of the Ord Township Library board, Valley County Farm Bureau, Ord United Methodist Church and a charter member of the Toastmasters since 1953. He was instrumental in the restoration of Fort Hartsuff. He edited a local Valley County newsletter.
His hobbies include history, reading, ecology, fishing and the outdoors.
Survivors include his wife; three daughters, Jolea Kriewald of Ord, Jeanne Eitzmann of Auburn and Jill Gill of Grand Island; six grandchildren; two stepgrandchildren; and one brother, Richard Remington of McCook.
He was preceded in death by one daughter, Janet Pettis.
Jonathan Wagner
FULLERTON -- Jonathan J. Wagner, 15 months, of Fullerton died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, at Litzenberg Memorial County Hospital in Central City due to drowning.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at Mount Calvary Lutheran Church in Fullerton. The Revs. Brad Rick and Matthew Graminske will officiate. Burial will be at 10 a.m. MDT Tuesday in Mount Hope Cemetery at Imperial.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday at the church.
Palmer Funeral Home of Fullerton is in charge of arrangements.
Jonathan was born
on Dec. 10, 1998, at Central City to the Rev. Timothy and Cynthia (Johnson) Wagner.
He was a member of Mount Calvary Lutheran Church.
Survivors include his parents; four brothers, Timothy Jr. of Imperial, Benjamin, Joshua and Jacob of Fullerton; three sisters, Elisabeth of Norfolk and Leah and Lydia of Fullerton; and his grandparents, Art and Eleanor Wagner of Imperial and Doris Johnson of Grant.
He was preceded in death by a grandfather, Charles Johnson.
Donald Obermeyer
LINCOLN -- Donald Lee Obermeyer, 78, of Lincoln died Wednesday, April 12, 2000, in Lincoln.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Monday at Lincoln Memorial Funeral Home. Burial will be in Lincoln Memorial Park.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.
Mr. Obermeyer was born
on Jan. 2, 1922, in Martell. He was a farmer.
He was a member of the Martell Methodist Church and American Legion Post 3.
Survivors include his wife, Violet; two daughters, Joyce (Mrs. Gene) Keller of Sprague and Charlene (Mrs. Allen) Sieck of Martell; four grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a brother, Oakley Obermeyer of Milford; and a sister, LaMoyne Winters of Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by two sons, Dwight and Russell Obermeyer; and two sisters, Edna Mae Kuster and Beulah Bamsey.
Lorraine Seifert
SUN VALLEY, Calif. -- Lorraine Seifert, 80, of Sun Valley, Calif., died March 28, 2000.
Memorial services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna. The Rev. Rod Pruss will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery in Ravenna.
Herman Penner
Herman Pete Penner, 81, of Grand Island, formerly of York, died Sunday, April 9, 2000, at Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Friday at the Metz Chapel in York. The Rev. Denton Jantzi will officiate. Burial will be in the Mennonite Brethren Cemetery at Henderson.
Memorials are suggested to the Grand Island Veterans Home.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
Mr. Penner was born
Dec. 15, 1918, at Henderson to John K. and Agatha (Ediger) Penner. He served in the U.S. Army from 1941 to 1945.
He married Ruth Nelson in 1942 at York and later married Sara Siebert. He worked at McAllister Trucking and then for York Foundry for many years. He spent many years in California and Columbus.
Survivors include his son, Larry Penner of Lone Tree, Colo.; four grandchildren; and a former wife, Ruth Lloyd of York.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Sara; one son, Dennis; six brothers; and eight sisters.
