Armin Lewis
BURWELL -- Armin L. Lewis, 85, of Burwell died Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, at his home.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Burwell Baptist Church. The Rev. David Koeningsberg will officiate. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery in Burwell.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Monday at Eberle-Hitchcock Funeral Home in Burwell.
Memorials are suggested to the church or Camp Witness.
Mr. Lewis was born
on Sept. 16, 1913, at Burwell to Samuel and Mary (Leigh) Lewis. His father died when he was a small child. He then lived with several families while going to school and growing up in the Burwell and Omaha areas.
He moved to Boise City, Okla., to live with his sister, Essie Carrick.
He married Dorothy Johnson on Aug. 3, 1940, in Clayton, N.M.
He served in the U.S. Navy during World War II from 1940 to 1945 in the Pacific. He was a nose gunner and had to be rescued at sea twice.
After the war, he was an airplane mechanic in San Bernadino, Calif.; Phoenix; and Sunnyvale, Calif. He received many awards as a mechanic for new ideas with airplanes.
Mr. and Mrs. Lewis moved to Burwell in 1952 to take over the ranch owned by his sister, Mable Whiteside, north of town after the death of her husband. They retired in 1976 and moved into Burwell.
He taught Sunday school and gave home Bible studies. He enjoyed watching football and reading and studying Scripture.
Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Judy (Mrs. Paul) Plock of Burwell; four grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; and two brothers, Martin Gene Lewis of Burwell and Kenneth Scanlan of Bellaire, Texas.
He was preceded in death by two brothers, Clifton Lewis and Raymond Lewis; and five sisters, Mable Whiteside, Ethel Lindsey, Essie Carrick, Tressie Shaffer and an infant sister.
Mary Rolf
FULLERTON -- Mary Rolf, 95, of Fullerton died Monday, Sept. 13, 1999, at Litzenberg Long-Term Care in Central City.
Services are pending. Palmer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Agnes Stromp
SPALDING -- Agnes M. Stromp, 94, of Spalding died Monday, Sept. 13, 1999, at the Friendship Villa in Spalding.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Spalding. Burial will be in St. Michael's Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with rosaries at 4:30 and 8 p.m., Tuesday at Dolce-Scheef Mortuary in Spalding.
Florence Kastens
LINCOLN -- Florence A. Kastens, 95, of Lincoln died Friday, Sept. 10, 1999, in Lincoln.
A memorial service will be at 11 a.m. Wednesday at Roper and Sons Chapel in Lincoln with the Rev. Larry Arganbright officiating.
Graveside services will be prior to memorial services at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Lincoln Memorial Park Cemetery. Service-goers may meet at Gate No. 2.
Visitation will be until 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to Sheridan Lutheran Church.
Survivors include two sons, John C. Meyerhoff of Lincoln and Robert D. Meyerhoff of Grand Island; five grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband.
Mike Greenlee
Mike P. Greenlee, 46, of Grand Island, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999, at Columbus.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Stanislaus Catholic Church in Duncan. Father Dave Korth will officiate. Burial will be at St. Stanislaus Cemetery in Duncan.
Visitation will be after 5 p.m. Tuesday at the church. A vigil will be at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the church. Visitation will continue Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until service time at the church.
Mr. Greenlee was born
Dec. 16, 1952 at Columbus to Don and Cecelia (Mostek) Greenlee. He received his education at St. Bonaventure School and Scotus Central Catholic High School. He served in the Army from 1970 to 1976, serving in Vietnam and Germany. After returning from the service, he moved to Grand Island where he worked for Berkley Pump, Nebraska Veterans Home and Ore Ida Foods.
Survivors include his father, Don of Columbus; one brother, Paul of Columbus; and two sisters, Carol (Mrs. Terry) Petersen of Grand Island, Donna (Mrs. Jim) Boroviak of Central City.
He was preceded in death by his mother and two sisters.
Ruby Boyce
ORD -- Ruby P. Boyce, 89, of Ord, died Friday, Sept. 10, 1999, at Valley County Hospital in Ord.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at Ord United Methodist Church. Rev. Jim Miller will officiate. Burial will be in the Ord City Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8:30 p.m. Monday with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m. at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Valley County Hospital or the American Heart Association.
Mrs. Boyce was born
Nov. 10, 1909, at North Loup to Levi and Jennie (Woitaszewski) Chipps. She attended Cottonwood Rural School and Ord High School.
She married Archie Boyce on June 23, 1928, at St. Paul. They farmed in the North Loup area. They moved into North Loup in 1953 and later moved to Ord. She worked at Carsons Market and Hoppe Paint. She later worked at Boilsen Seed Co. and Ord Glass and Paint.
She was a member of the V.F.W. Auxiliary, Ord Does, Rebecca Lodge and Ord United Methodist Church. She enjoyed crocheting and embroidering.
Survivors include three daughters, Betty (Mrs. Del) Kwiatkowski of Kearney, Sharon (Mrs. Eldon) Foth of Ord, Genevieve (Mrs. Andy) Kusek of Ord; 20 grandchildren; many great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Levi Chipps of Casper, Wyo.
She was preceded in death by her husband and six brothers.
Loretta Rae Cranwell
BROKEN BOW -- Loretta Rae Cranwell, 57, of Broken Bow, died Friday, Sept. 10, 1999, at Jennie Melham Hospital in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. Vicar Bruce Freeman will officiate. Burial will be at 2 p.m. at Holyoke Cemetery in Holyoke, Colo.
Mrs. Cranwell was born
Feb. 1, 1942, at Holyoke, Colo., to Otto and Augusta Krueger. She attended school at Amherst and Holyoke and graduated from Holyoke High School in 1960.
She married Gary Cranwell on Aug. 21, 1960 at Holyoke. They lived in Grant until 1967 when they moved to Broken Bow, where they owned and operated Cranwell Plumbing and Heating. She was employed at Broken Bow School for approximately 20 years in the food service program.
She was a member of Our Savior Lutheran Church in Broken Bow, the Broken Bow Fire Department Auxiliary and Broken Bow Jaycees Auxiliary. She was an avid gardener.
Survivors include her husband; one son, Craig of Sumner; two daughters, Robyn (Mrs. Chris) Patton of Phillipsburg, Kan., and Donica (Mrs. Jeff) Williams of Gothenburg; four grandchildren; a brother, Leroy Krueger of Holyoke, Colo.
She was preceded in death by her parents and a brother.
Myrtle Hall
SARGENT -- Myrtle E. Hall, 91, of Sargent, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999, at the Sargent Rehab and Nursing Center in Sargent.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at Rhoad Funeral Chapel in Sargent. Burial will be in the Madison Square Cemetery west of Taylor.
Visitation will be from 1 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
Memorials are suggested to the Loup County Historical Society.
Mildred Jemison
AURORA -- Mildred M. Jemison, 95, of Aurora, formerly of Giltner, died Sunday, Sept. 12, 1999, at Hamilton Manor in Aurora.
Services are pending at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.

Vera Vanderheiden
AURORA -- Vera Vanderheiden, 78, of Aurora, died Saturday, Sept. 11, 1999, at Aurora.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Wednesday at St. Mary's Catholic Church in Aurora. Father John Keefe will officiate. Burial will be at the Aurora Catholic Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. and 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesday at Higby Mortuary in Aurora. Rosary will be at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at the mortuary.
Veronica "Vera" Elizabeth Vanderheiden was born
Nov. 27, 1920, at Cedar Rapids to Stanley and Mary (Jarosz) Starzec. She attended school in Cedar Rapids and worked in Chicago, Ill. and Omaha.
She married Lawrence Vanderheiden on Oct. 21, 1941 in Cedar Rapids. They lived in Cedar Rapids and later moved to Grand Island where she worked at St. Francis Medical Center.
They later moved to Aurora where she worked at Memorial Hospital.
She was a member of St. Mary's Altar Society and the Disabled American Veterans Association.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, James and Gerald of Aurora and Robert of Lincoln; three daughters, Mary Novotne of Columbus, Kathleen Kummer of Englewood, Colo., and Vivian Holtzinger of Littleton, Colo.; 11 grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; two brothers, Alphonse Starzec and Sylvester Starzec, both of Columbus; and two sisters, Josephine Sliva and Bernetta Paprocki, both of Columbus.
She was preceded in death by a brother.
