Woody Koch
Woody R. Koch, 83, of Grand Island died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Saturday at Trinity Lutheran Church. The Rev. Robert Harms will officiate. A family prayer service will be at 1:15 p.m. in the church chapel. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 3 to 9 p.m., with the family receiving friends from 6 to 8 p.m., Friday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to Trinity Lutheran School.
Mr. Koch was born
on Nov. 24, 1915, at Cairo to Vallie and Effie (Stange) Koch. He lived for a short time in Cairo before moving to Grand Island at a young age. He grew up and was educated in Grand Island, graduating in 1935.
He served in the National Guard for nearly six years before he entered the U.S. Army on Dec. 23, 1940. He served during World War II and was discharged on Sept. 18, 1945.
He married Dora Wiese on July 21, 1944, at Little Rock, Ark. The couple lived in Grand Island after his discharge from the Army. He worked as a welder for several companies. He started a metal fabrication company in 1962. He worked as a welder until his retirement in 1982. He remained active in the business after his retirement.
He was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, served on several church boards and was a member of the Golden Years Club. He was also a member of the American Legion of Grand Island. He was a baseball coach for 20 years and an avid sports fan. He also enjoyed hunting.
Survivors include his wife; three sons, Mike and Larry of Grand Island and Gary of Steamboat Springs, Colo.; one daughter, Marylin Dale of Omaha; nine grandchildren; one great-granddaughter; and one sister, Irene Sealey of Lake City, Fla.
He was preceded in death by a granddaughter; and a brother, Alvin.
Florence Placke
DALLAS -- Florence C. Placke, 94, formerly of Grand Island, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, in Dallas.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Mary's Cathedral. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 4 to 9 p.m., with a rosary at 7:30 p.m., Sunday at Livingston-Sondermann Funeral Home.
Mrs. Placke was born
on Dec. 5, 1904, at Sauk City, Wis., to James and Elizabeth (Giegerich) McCormick. She grew up at Sauk City and Madison, Wis., and graduated from high school in 1921.
She attended secretarial school and worked at the Wisconsin State Capitol.
She married Gerhard "Garrett" Placke on April 7, 1931, at Madison, Wis. The couple moved to St. Libory. They moved to Grand Island in 1955. Mr. Placke died on Dec. 6, 1984. Mrs. Placke moved to Tulsa, Okla., to be near her daughter and later to Dallas.
She was a member of the Catholic faith and formerly a member of the Platt-Duetsche Ladies Society.
Survivors include a son, James Placke of Arlington, Va.; and a daughter, Jean Placke of Dallas.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four brothers and one sister.
Dorothy Claar
PETERSBURG -- Dorothy Claar, 75, of Petersburg died Thursday, Sept. 9, 1999, at Wolf Memorial Good Samaritan Center in Albion.
Arrangements are pending with Levander Funeral Home in Albion.
Cletus Kamler
LOUP CITY -- Cletus N. Kamler, 70, of Loup City died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, at BryanLGH Medical Center East in Lincoln.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Saturday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. The Rev. Reginald A. Urban will officiate. Burial with graveside military honors by American Legion Post 48 of Loup City will be in St. Francis Catholic Cemetery at Ashton.
Visitation will be from 3 to 5 p.m. Friday at Peters Funeral Home in Loup City and from 6 to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. vigil service, Friday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.
Mr. Kamler was born
on Feb. 14, 1929, on a farm northwest of Shickley to Joseph and Hattie (Volkmer) Kamler. He attended Fillmore County rural schools and graduated from Geneva High School in 1947.
Upon completing his education, he farmed with his father.
He married Rose M. Erdkamp on Feb. 1, 1951, at Exeter. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War from September 1951 to June 1953. The couple then farmed north of Shickley until 1987, when they moved to Loup City.
He enjoyed carpentry work.
He was a member of St. Josaphat's Catholic Church, the American Legion posts in Shickley and Loup City and the Veterans of Foreign Wars posts in Geneva and Loup City.
Survivors include his wife; four sons, Craig of Ashton, Mark of Loup City, Todd of Kearney and Bruce of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; six grandchildren; two sisters, Kathleen (Mrs. John) Aksentowitz of Omaha and Jeneane (Mrs. Marlin) Bahe of Geneva; and one brother, Linus of Shickley.
Leta Cox
LUSK, Wyo. -- Leta J. Cox, 82, of Lusk, Wyo., died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, at the Niobrara County Nursing Home.
Graveside memorial services will be at 3 p.m. Saturday at Mount Pleasant Cemetery in Cairo.
Memorials are suggested to Niobrara County Nursing Home in Lusk, Wyo.
Cicmanec-Pier Funeral Home in Lusk is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Cox was born
on Sept. 1, 1917, in Ord to Guy and Alice Strong.
She married Robert Stairs on July 3, 1936. The couple lived in Callaway and Cairo and moved to Grand Island in 1960. Mr. Stairs was killed there in 1961.
She married Ervin Cox on Feb. 14, 1970, in Loup City.
Survivors include her husband; two daughters, Pat Fowler of Lusk, Wyo., and Connie Cowles of Des Moines, Iowa; two sons, Gary Stairs of Alliance and Jim Stairs of Boise, Idaho; two adopted children, Mary Coe of Cottage Grove, Minn., and Bill Cox of Grand Island; numerous grandchildren; numerous great-grandchildren; numerous great-great-grandchildren; and one brother, Gerald Strong of Gothenburg.
In addition to her first husband, she was preceded in death by three daughters, seven grandchildren, one great-grandchildren, two brothers and one sister.
Helen Sellers
HOUSTON -- Helen A. Sellers, 93, of Houston, formerly of Nance and Merrick counties, died Wednesday, Sept. 8, 1999, at her home.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at St. Lawrence's Catholic Church in Silver Creek. The Rev. Dave Korth will officiate. Burial will be in St. Lawrence's Catholic Cemetery.
Mrs. Sellers was born
on April 9, 1906, on a farm south of Genoa in Nance County to Thomas and Julia (Iwan) Tomasiewicz. She attended schools in Krakow and Nance and Merrick counties.
She married James Sellers on June 30, 1936, in Omaha. She was a housewife. She lived the majority of her life in Texas. Mr. Sellers died in 1966.
Survivors include one sister, Kathryn Prososki of Osceola; and one brother, Louis Savage of Glendale, Calif.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two sisters and three brothers.

Vida Linton
Vida M. Linton, 89, of Grand Island died Sunday, Sept. 5, 1999, at Greeley, Colo.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Friday at the First Baptist Church. The Rev. Duane Bennett will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Visitation with the family present will be from 5 to 9 p.m. Thursday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home.
Memorials are suggested to the church.
Mrs. Linton was born
on June 3, 1910, at Ragan to Everett and Ivy (Marker) Herndon. She grew up in Ragan and Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High.
She graduated from Kearney State Teachers College and then taught at Hall County District 13 School.
She married John Linton of Aurora on Nov. 26, 1932, in Kansas. They lived in Grand Island for more than 50 years. She was a homemaker.
Mrs. Linton was an active member of the First Baptist Church and served as a Hall County election voter assistant.
Survivors include one son, John Linton of Highlands Ranch, Colo.; three daughters, Maureen Hagan of Omaha, Joanne Roggy of Greeley, Colo., and Linda Latenser of Denver; 17 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; one daughter, Marilyn; four brothers, Ralph, Clarence, Harold and Phil Herndon; and a sister, Elva Underwood.
Darrel Wachter
Darrel "Pete" Wachter, 74, of Grand Island died Tuesday, Sept. 7, 1999, at the Grand Island Veterans Home.
Services will be at 1 p.m. Thursday at Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow. The Rev. Doug Jones will officiate. Burial will be in the Broken Bow Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to noon Thursday at the mortuary.
Memorials are suggested to the veterans home.
Mr. Wachter was born
on May 3, 1925, in Custer County to Clyde and Erma (Swope) Wachter. He grew up on the family farm and graduated from Broken Bow High School in 1943.
He served in the U.S. Navy from February 1944 to May 1946 during World War II.
He was a cowboy and ranch hand. He also toured the rodeo circuit as a bull rider and helped with the rodeo livestock. He had lived at the Grand Island Veterans Home for 10 years.
Mr. Wachter was a member of the Broken Bow Elks Lodge and the American Legion. He enjoyed Nebraska football.
Survivors include one sister, Bev (Mrs. Bud) Noble of Lincoln; and one brother, Wallace "Mike" Wachter of Scottsdale, Ariz.
One sister, Shirley Sargent, died in 1988.
