Milton Ahrens
RAVENNA -- Milton Ahrens, 57, of Ravenna died Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at the First United Methodist Church in Kearney. The Revs. Karla Sheffy and Rose Bartleson will officiate. Burial will be in Highland Park Cemetery in Ravenna.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Sunday at Rasmussen Mortuary in Ravenna.
Mr. Ahrens was born
on July 12, 1942, at Kenesaw to Herman and Clara (Hinrichs) Ahrens. He graduated from Shelton High School.
He married Mary Jo Lee on Aug. 26, 1962, at Shelton. The couple lived on a farm south of Ravenna.
Mr. Ahrens was a member of Zion United Methodist Church. He had served on the Ravenna school board, 4-H board and Buffalo County Extension Board.
Survivors include his wife; five sons, Monte and Chuck, both of Ravenna, Marc of Hutchinson, Kan., Mike of Grand Island and Matt of Kearney; two daughters, MeriLynn Pehrson of Waverly and Heather Ferralez of Hutchinson, Kan.; 14 grandchildren; and one brother, Lyle of Gibbon.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
Eugene Hartman
DANNEBROG -- Eugene Hartman, 62, of Dannebrog died Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, at Methodist Hospital in Houston.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at the Dannebrog Baptist Family Center with the Revs. Rob Pearson and Norman Kirschbaum officiating. Burial will be in Oakridge Cemetery in Dannebrog.
Visitation will be from 7 to 9 p.m. Monday at Jacobsen Funeral Home in St. Paul. Memorials are suggested to the First Baptist Church of Dannebrog or the family's choice.
Mr. Hartman was born
on Jan. 10, 1937, at Creston, Iowa, to Eugene and Helen (Harkness) Hartman. He was educated at Creston and graduated in 1955. He attended Creston Junior College for one year.
He then enlisted in the U. S. Army and was stationed at Fort Houston in San Antonio.
He married Loretta McKinney on Aug. 15, 1957, in San Antonio, where the couple lived until Mr. Hartman was discharged in 1958.
The couple then moved to Fullerton, where Mr. Hartman worked as an accountant for Schweitz Equipment Co. for three years. He later owned and operated the Orange Bowl Cafe in Fullerton for three years.
In 1974, the couple moved to Grand Island, where Mr. Hartman worked as a controller at Skagway. They moved to Dannebrog in 1983. Mr. Hartman continued to work for Skagway until 1988, when he bought the DanDe Drive-in in Dannebrog. He operated the drive-in until he retired in 1998.
Mr. Hartman was a member of the First Baptist Church of Dannebrog and served two terms as mayor.
He enjoyed woodworking, wood carving and photography.
Survivors include his wife; one son, Kenneth of Overland Park, Kan.; four daughters, Linda (Mrs. Dan) Bornmann of Dannebrog, Twyla (Mrs. John) Andrus of Kearney, Lois (Mrs. James) Wies of Lincoln and Janice Hartman of Grand Island; seven grandchildren; and one brother, Carl of Fort Collins, Colo.
He was preceded in death by one son, John; and his parents.
Anton Hovorka
ORD -- Anton John Hovorka, 81, of Ord died Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, at Good Samaritan Hospital in Kearney.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at the Ord United Methodist Church with the Rev. Jim B. Miller officiating. Burial will be in Cottonwood Cemetery at Burwell. Burwell American Legion Post 298 and Burwell Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 6155 will conduct military rites.
Visitation will be from 6 to 7 p.m. Sunday at Ord Memorial Chapel.
Memorials are suggested to the Ord Volunteer Fire Department.
Mr. Hovorka was born
on Nov. 26, 1917, at Linwood to Frank and Adeline "Ida" (Viglicky) Hovorka. He grew up in Schuyler and attended Saunders County District 86 Country School. Mr. Hovorka moved to Burwell in 1938.
He joined the U.S. Army in 1942 and served in the artillery in Germany and France until 1945. He returned to Burwell after the service.
He married Mary Meuret on Jan. 3, 1968, at Burwell. The couple farmed near Burwell, and Mr. Hovorka also worked for the Burwell alfalfa mill. Mrs. Hovorka died on Dec. 21, 1971.
He married Mabel Welsh Malottke on Feb. 18, 1973, in Ord. The couple lived in Ord, where Mr. Hovorka worked for the alfalfa mill.
He was a member of the Ord Elks Lodge, the Burwell and Ord American Legion and the Platt-Duetsche in Grand Island. He enjoyed fishing, hunting, playing cards and cribbage.
Survivors include his wife; two stepdaughters, Phyllis Malottke of Ord and Karen Simpson of Corning, Calif.; one stepgranddaughter; one stepgreat-granddaughter; one sister, Rose Shonka of Schuyler; and two brothers, Joe and Stanley, both of Burwell.
In addition to his first wife, he was preceded in death by two sisters, Adeline Hovorka and an infant sister, Emma Hovorka.
Edna Rikli
ORD -- Edna Rikli, 102, of Ord, formerly of Murdock, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, at the Valley County Nursing Home in Ord.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. Monday at the Murdock Methodist Church. Burial will be in Emmanuel Cemetery at Murdock.
Visitation will be prior to service time Monday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the Murdock Methodist Church or the Ord United Methodist Church.
Ord Memorial Chapel is in charge of arrangements.
Mary Sawyer
NORTH LOUP -- Mary Sawyer, 81, of North Loup died Friday, Aug. 6, 1999, at Jennie Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Berean Fundamental Church in Broken Bow. Burial will be at 3 p.m. in Hillside Cemetery in North Loup.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow.
Memorials have been established to the Homeward Trail Bible Camp, North Loup-Scotia Rescue Unit and the donor's choice.
Mrs. Sawyer was born
on Dec. 22, 1917, near Bassett to Arthur and Agnes (Putnam) Vore. She attended country school near Bassett.
She married Ralph Sawyer on Dec. 7, 1935, near Bassett. The couple farmed in the Bassett area from 1935 to 1946. They worked as missionaries for the American Missionary Fellowship in Central Nebraska from 1947 to 1977 and were directors of Homeward Trail Bible Camp.
The couple retired in 1977, then pastored at the Horace Mission Church near Scotia until 1992.
Survivors include her husband, of Broken Bow; three sons, H. Kay Sawyer of Central City, Ken Sawyer of Gothenburg and Glenn Sawyer of Mason City; one daughter, Carol (Mrs. Garry) Squier of Anslemo; 20 grandchildren; 29 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Marvin Vore of Pierce City, Mo.
She was preceded in death by one daughter, Linda Shoemaker; two grandchildren; one brother, Lyle; and one sister, Viola.
Luella Varah
DONIPHAN -- Luella M. Varah, 74, of Doniphan died Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Monday at First St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Hastings. The Rev. Harold Stromer will officiate. Burial will be in Greenwood Cemetery in Trumbull.
Visitation will be from noon to 9 p.m. Saturday and Sunday and from 8 to 11 a.m. Monday at Brand-Wilson Chapel in Hastings.
Ollyne Wright
MERNA -- Ollyne Harriet Wright, 80, of Broken Bow, formerly of Merna, died Thursday, Aug. 5, 1999, at Jennie Melham Memorial Medical Center in Broken Bow.
Mrs. Wright was cremated. There will be no memorial service.
Govier Brothers Mortuary in Broken Bow is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Wright was born
on April 4, 1919, at Paxton to William and Anna (Wallin) Myers. She grew up at Paxton and graduated from Paxton High School. She also attended Kearney State Teachers College.
She married Marvin H. Wright on Jan. 24, 1942. They lived in Merna. Mr. Wright died on Jan. 2, 1993. Mrs. Wright was a resident of Heritage Hall Nursing Home in Broken Bow at the time of her death.
Survivors include two sons, Wayne Wright of Merna and Robert Wright of Aurora, Colo.; and two grandchildren.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by one sister, Mae; and one brother, Billy.
Joseph Webber
ELIZABETH, Colo. -- Joseph W. Webber, 82, of Elizabeth, Colo., died Wednesday, Aug. 4, 1999, at the Brookside Inn, Castle Rock, Colo.
Mr. Webber was cremated.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery. The Rev. Patrick Grindol will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to the Hospice of Metro Denver or the Brookside Inn Van Fund.

Mr. Webber was born
on Nov. 20, 1916, at Shelton to Glen and Edith (Weaver) Webber.
He served in the U.S. Army, including a stint at the Panama Canal Zone.
He married Mildred Alberta Bending on April 10, 1953, at Central City. The couple lived in Elizabeth for 22 years. He was a soils technician working in construction over the years in Wyoming, Nebraska and Colorado.
He enjoyed the outdoors and all animals.
Survivors include his wife; two daughters, Betty (Mrs. Tom) Hoeft of Grand Island and Bobbie (Mrs. Harold) Quandt of Aurora, Colo.; five grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and one brother, Rodney Webber of Shelton.
He was preceded in death by one grandchild.
Dani M. Brown
Dani M. Brown, 37, of Grand Island died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000 at St. Francis Medical Center following a brief illness.
All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island is in charge of arrangements.
Lucille E. Clark
Lucille E. Clark, 90, of Grand Island died Sunday, Aug. 6, 2000 at St. Francis Skilled Care Center.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Kleine Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Jim Keyser officiating. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery. There will be no visitation.
Memorials are suggested to the Trinity United Methodist Church or to the Grand Island B.P.O Does, Drove 147.
Mrs. Clark was born
March 10, 1911 to Floyd W. and Cecil L. (Gates) Kunselman in Fairfield. She graduated from Fairfield High School and attended the University of Nebraska before returning to Fairfield.
She married Virgil H. Clark on Dec. 24, 1933 in Webber, Kan. They lived in New York City, Omaha, Rapid City, S.D., and St. Louis before moving to Grand Island in 1942.
While living in Grand Island, she worked as a clerk at the J.C. Penney Co. In 1961 they moved to Ames, Iowa. They returned to Grand Island in 1967 to retire.
She enjoyed gardening.
She was a member of the Trinity United Methodist Church and the Grand Island B.P.O Does Drove 147.
Survivors include one daughter, Nadine (Mrs. Don) Terry of Grand Island; one granddaughter and four great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband and one grandson.
