Sandie Schultz
SARGENT -- Sandie G. Schultz, 77, of Sargent died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000 at the Sterling House in Grand Island.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at the Govier Brothers Chapel in Broken Bow with the Rev. Charles Spence officiating. Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday at the funeral home. Burial will be in the Somerford Cemetery.
Memorials are suggested to the Sargent Alumni Scholarship Fund.
Mr. Schultz was born
Oct. 5, 1922 to Alexander and Agnes (Daugherty) Schultz in Sargent. He graduated from Sargent High School in 1941.
On July 2, 1948 he married Bessie Jezbera. The couple lived in the Broken Bow and Sargent area, where they farmed and ranched.
He was a member of the Sargent and Somerford school boards and was a school bus driver for many years for the Sargent schools.
Survivors include his wife of Sargent; four sons, LeRoy of Central City, Harvey of Cottonwood, Ariz., Marvin of Sargent and Marlyn of Gering; three daughters, Marlene (Mrs. Frank) Amos of Doniphan, Karen (Mrs. John) Glidden of Mullen, and Carolyn (Mrs. Mike) Criss of Sargent; two sisters, Violia of Corvales, Ore., and Wilhemina Johnston of Salem, Ore.; one brother, Norris of Littleton, Colo.; 12 grandchildren; and one great-granddaughter.
He was preceded in death by two sisters and one brother.
Vera Webster
CENTRAL CITY -- Vera Irene Webster, 99, of Central City died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000 at Central City Care Center.
Services are pending with Solt Funeral Home in Central City.
Doreene F. Sands
KEARNEY -- Doreene F. Sands, 49, of Kearney died Saturday, Aug. 5, 2000 at her home.
Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at the Holy Cross Lutheran Church in Kearney with the Rev. Daniel Heuer officiating. Burial will be in the Minden Cemetery. Visitation will be from 3 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at the O'Brien-Straatmann-Apfel Funeral Home in Kearney.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Mrs. Sands was born
Nov. 26, 1950 to Arby and Arlene (Edgehill) Ellison in Tilden. She attended school in Grand Island and graduated from Grand Island Senior High School in 1969.
She married Michael Pollock on May 31, 1969.
She married Scott R. Sands on June 15, 1991 in Kearney where they lived.
She worked in the finance department at the University of Nebraska at Kearney.
She was a member of Holy Cross Lutheran Church and was in the choir.
Survivors include her husband of Kearney; one son, Michael Sands of Bellevue; three daughters, Heather Pollock-Rogers of Minden and Jennifer Pollock and Haley Klingler, both of Kearney; her mother, Arlene of Fort Collins, Colo.; one brother, Bill Davenport of Maddalena, Italy; two sisters, Su Armbruster and Deb Velarde, both of Fort Collins, Colo.; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Michael Pollock, her father, Arby Ellison; and stepfather, Bud Davenport.
Joseph Smolik
MT. VERNON, Mo. -- Joseph W. Smolik, 90, of Mt. Vernon, Mo., formerly of Nebraska, died Wednesday, Aug. 2, 2000 at the Missouri Veterans Home in Mt. Vernon.
Graveside services will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday in the Ord City Cemetery in Ord with the Rev. Bob Rooney officiating.
Herman Lohmeyer Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements.
Dale Lyons Dale J. Lyons, 69, of Grand Island died suddenly Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at his home.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Monday at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church. The Rev. Frank Hoelck will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 2 to 4 with a 4 p.m. rosary and from 5 to 6:30 p.m. Sunday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family's choice.

Mr. Lyons was born
on June 27, 1930, in Hayes County to James and Julia (Anderjaski) Lyons. At the age of 6, after the death of his father, he moved with his mother to McCook. He graduated from McCook High School.
He worked as a general contractor in construction his entire life.
He married Mary Sughroue on Oct. 4, 1952, at Indianola. They lived in McCook. In 1971, they moved to Grand Island, where he continued to work as a general contractor building Wheeler Farm Stores in the central United States. He was also general contractor for Riverside Lodge, Lebensraum Retirement Home and many other projects.
He semi-retired about three years ago and liked to work on Farmall tractors.
He was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and was a Fourth Degree member of the Knights of Columbus. He served in the National Guard at McCook for 20 years. He enjoyed going to farm and livestock auctions and raising cattle as a hobby.
Survivors include his wife; six sons, Dennis, Jerry, Michael and Terry, all of Grand Island, Jeffry of St. Joseph, Mo., and Timothy of Olathe, Kan.; one daughter, Anne (Ms. Larry) Ostermeyer of Shelton; 19 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and one brother, LaVerne of Lincoln.
He was preceded in death by one son, Patrick; and two brothers, Harold and Don.
Norma Kuszak
LOUP CITY -- Norma J. Kuszak, 65, of Loup City died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center in Grand Island.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Monday at St. Josaphat's Catholic Church in Loup City. Burial will be in Evergreen Cemetery at Loup City.
Visitation will be from 2 to 5 p.m., with a sodality rosary at 4 p.m., Sunday at Higgins Funeral Home in Loup City. Visitation will continue from 6 to 8 p.m., with a 7:30 p.m. vigil, Sunday at the church.
Memorials are suggested to the family or the donor's choice.
Mrs. Kuszak was born
on March 29, 1934, at Loup City to Mike and Theresa (Swanek) Michalski. She grew up and attended school in the rural Loup City area.
She married Harry Kuszak on Oct. 23, 1951, in Loup City. They lived on a farm northeast of Loup City near Sherman Dam until 1983. They then moved to town, and Mrs. Kuszak began work at the Rose Lane Nursing Home in Loup City. She worked there until 1996, when she retired due to her illness.
She enjoyed playing cards, fishing, reading and playing the slots at the gambling casinos.
Survivors include her husband; three sons, Ken of Lincoln, Alan of Grand Island and Randy of Loup City; a daughter, Debbie Mason of Grand Island; seven grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Regina Rease
GREELEY -- Regina Rease, 89, of Greeley died Tuesday, Nov. 16, 1999, at Clarkson Hospital in Omaha.
Services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday at Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Greeley. The Rev. Gerald Carlson will officiate. Burial will be in Sacred Heart Cemetery at Greeley.
T.J. Finn and Sons Funeral Home in Greeley is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Rease was born
on Jan. 3, 1910, in Spalding to Michael and Margaret (Burke) Walsh. She grew up on a farm near Spalding and graduated from Spalding Academy in 1927. She later attended Kearney State Teachers College.
She married Harry Rease on June 8, 1936. They lived on a farm near Spalding until they moved to a farm near Greeley in 1947. She taught in country schools most of her adult life. Mr. Rease died in 1991, and Mrs. Rease then moved to Greeley.
She was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church and Catholic Daughters. She enjoyed playing cards.
Survivors include one son, Jerry Rease of Omaha; two daughters, Jean Pritchard of Portland, Ore., and Mary (Mrs. Bob) Warner of Ravenna; eight grandchildren; four great-grandchildren; a twin sister, Angela Reilly of Spalding; and a brother, Pat Walsh of Chardon, Ohio.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by one brother and two sisters.
"Sis" Shriner
ALDA - Hazel B. "Sis" Shriner, 87, of Alda, died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at the Good Samaritan Home in Wood River.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Monday at the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Island with the Rev. Rose Bartleson officiating. Burial will be in the Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery in Grand Island.
Visitation will be prior to the graveside service from 9 to 10:30 a.m. Monday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. Memorials may be made to the Alda United Methodist Church.
Mrs. Shriner was born
Feb. 24, 1912, to Thomas and Lydia (Walters) Snyder at Palmer. She grew up in Palmer. She received her education in Palmer and Grand Island schools before graduating from Palmer High School.
She married David Shriner on Sept. 23, 1933. The couple farmed and lived in Alda all of their married life. Mrs. Shriner also was employed by the Cornhusker Army Ammunition Plant and by several local dress shops. Mr. Shriner died on Feb. 23, 1966.
Mrs. Shriner was a member of the United Methodist Church for many years and also a member of the Eagles Auxiliary.
Survivors include a son, Don Shriner of Alda; a granddaughter; and two great-grandchildren.
Other than her husband, she was preceded in death by five brothers, Albert, Carl, Norton, Bill and Thomas Jr.; and by five sisters, Eunice Helzer, Ruth Walters, Pat Fleshman, Alice Wegner and Amy Hughes.
Jean Potts
NEW YORK -- Jean C. Potts, 88, of New York, formerly of St. Paul, died Nov. 10, 1999, at her home.
Graveside memorial services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday at Elmwood Cemetery in St. Paul. The Rev. G. Hyde will officiate. There will be no visitation. Miss Potts was cremated.
Peters Funeral Home of St. Paul is in charge of arrangements.
Memorials are suggested to the Howard County Historical Society.
Miss Potts was born
on Nov. 17, 1910, at St. Paul to William and Lola (Law) Potts. She attended St. Paul public schools and graduated from St. Paul High School in 1927. She then attended Denver Women's College and graduated from Nebraska Wesleyan University in Lincoln.
She worked briefly for the Phonograph newspaper in St. Paul. Since then, she had lived and worked in New York.
She had 15 mystery novels and nearly 40 short stories published. They appeared in such publications as McCalls, Collier's, Ellery Queen, Alfred Hitchcock, Woman's Day, Redbook and Liberty.
Her novel "Go Lovely Rose" received the Edgar Award in 1954. In 1963, she received the runner-up Edgar Award for "The Evil Wish," which was later made into a motion picture starring Barbara Stanwick and Sir Ralph Richardson. Her mystery novels were published in more than seven languages.
In 1998, the Howard County Historical Society dedicated the Jean Potts exhibit in the Gruber House at the historical village.
She is survived by several cousins.
She was preceded in death by one sister, Edith Potts.
Violet Horn
Violet Joy Horn, 79, of Grand Island died Thursday, Nov. 18, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Services will be at 2:30 p.m. Monday at Apfel-Butler-Geddes Funeral Home. The Rev. Vernon Rice will officiate. Burial will be in Westlawn Memorial Park Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 8 a.m. until service time Monday. The family will receive friends beginning at 10 a.m.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Lupe Romero-Lopez
Lupe Romero-Lopez, infant daughter of Fredy Lopez and Griselda Romero of 316 E. 12th, died shortly after birth on Nov. 2, 1999, at St. Francis Medical Center.
Graveside services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at the Grand Island City Cemetery. The Rev. Jorge Santamaria will officiate.
Memorials are suggested to the family.
Survivors include her parents and grandparents.
