Carol Turner

Hastings resident Carol (Stude) Turner, 80, of 1515 N. Highland Road, died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at her home.
There are no services or visitation. The remains were cremated. Brand-Wilson Funeral Home of Hastings is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Turner was born Jan. 1, 1919, to Carl and Mary (Bortis) Stude in North Loup. On Sept. 18, 1937, she married Gerald W. Turner. They moved to Hastings in 1943 where she worked at the Naval Ammunition Depot during World War II. She and her husband owned Home Decorating Supply. On Oct. 9, 1985, her husband died.
Survivors are one daughter, Diane Woolley of Marshall, Mich.; two sons, Kerry of Hastings and Terry of Plano, Texas; one sister, Anne Himberger of Columbia, Mo.; two brothers, Alwyn of Westminster, Calif., and Art of Phoenix; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
Memorials may be given to the Mary Lanning Hospice in Hastings.
Marie E. Olsen

Hastings resident Marie E. (Keister) Olsen, 88, of Good Samaritan Village Perkins Pavilion died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at Perkins.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday at GSV All Saints Chapel with the Rev. Bill Liddell officiating. Burial will be in the Kenesaw Cemetery. Visitation is 5-9 p.m. today, noon to 9 p.m. Sunday, 9 a.m. to noon Monday at Jackson-Wilson Funeral Home in Kenesaw and one hour prior to services Monday at the church.
Mrs. Olsen was born Sept. 30, 1911, to Claude and Nellie (Harpham) Keister in Adams County. She attended Mayflower School District No. 68 and graduated from Kenesaw High School in 1929. She then taught at Lafayette Rural School in Kearney County. On Feb. 28, 1934, she married Leslie H. Olsen near Heartwell. They farmed near Norman before moving to Adams County between Heartwell and Holstein. They farmed there until her husband retired in 1974. On April 14, 1981, her husband died. She moved to Kenesaw in 1994 and then to Good Samaritan Village in 1995. She wrote for several newspapers and history books for Kenesaw and Adams County.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church in Kenesaw and its women group. She also was a Sunday school teacher and pianist for Bethel Union Church in Heartwell. She was a volunteer for the Kenesaw Women's Club, RSVP, Adams County Historical Society and the National Shut-In Society.
Survivors are three daughters, Rosalie Anderson of Lubbock, Texas, Lois Agustin of Kenesaw and Caroline Stadler of Axtell; one son, Donald of Heartwell; eight grandchildren; and 13 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one brother and one grandchild.
Memorials may be given to the Presbyterian Church in Kenesaw or the Adams County Historical Society.
LaVerne 'Vern' Luedeke

Edgar resident LaVerne 'Vern' Luedeke, 86, died Friday, Oct. 15, 1999, at Integrated Health Services in Edgar.
Graveside services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at Edgar Cemetery with the Rev. Rick Cepris officiating. Williams Funeral Home of Edgar was in charge of arrangements.
Mr. Luedeke was born July 27, 1913, to Otto and Agnes (Mittelstaedt) Luedeke in Stanton. He graduated from high school in Stanton. He attended Wayne State College. On Sept. 7, 1936, he married Hilda Mildred Wilcox at Pierce. They celebrated 50 years of marriage in 1986. He served in the U.S. Army from 1944-46 in World War II. He earned three bronze stars while stationed in the South Pacific Theatre of Operations. He was a long-time employee of Hormel Foods Inc., where he reached a management position before retiring. He and his wife had lived in Leesburg, Fla., until coming to Edgar in 1988. His wife died Aug. 15, 1992.
He was a member of the Masons.
Survivor is one brother, Herb of Cherry Hill, N.J.
Helen K. Garrelts

Minden resident Helen K. (Bruns) Garrelts, 89, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at the Kearney County Health Services Hospital in Minden.
Services are 11 a.m. Monday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Wilcox with the Rev. Jeremy Jacoby officiating. Burial will be in the Wilcox Cemetery. Visitation is 3-5 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. Sunday at Layton Funeral Home in Minden.
Mrs. Garrelts was born Sept. 25, 1910, to Henry and Tina (Meints) Bruns in Hildreth. She attended school in the Hildreth area. On April 18, 1938, she married Falkert Garrelts. They lived in the Hildreth and Wilcox areas. Her husband died in 1962. She later moved to Axtell, where she worked for several years at the Bethphage Mission as a cook. She retired in 1987. She moved to Kearney and then to Minden in 1997.
She was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church and its Ruth Society.
Survivors are three sons, Delmar of Grand Island, Larry of Wichita, Kan., and Gene of Minden; two sisters, Emma Bartels of Wilcox and Frieda Johnson of Minden; one half sister, Rosie Nelson of Funk; two stepbrothers, Rudolph Stratman of Minden and Walter Stratman of Hildreth; four grandchildren; and 10 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one half brother and three stepbrothers.
Memorials may be given to the church.
Janita P. Schneider

Blue Hill resident Janita P. (Rogers) Schneider, 66, died Thursday, Oct. 14, 1999, at BryanLGH Medical Center West in Lincoln.
Services are 2 p.m. Monday at Merten-Butler Mortuary chapel in Blue Hill with the Rev. Baldeo Singh officiating. Burial will be in Blue Valley Cemetery near Ayr.
Mrs. Schneider was born June 4, 1933, to William and Pearl (Gilbert) Rogers in Loup City. She and her family moved to Cairo, where she graduated from high school. She then attended college and taught school for one year in rural Blue Hill. She then worked as a nurses aid. On July 15, 1956, she married Marvin E. Schneider Sr. in Cairo. They lived in Bennett where they farmed before moving to Juniata. In 1971, they moved to Blue Hill.
Survivors are her husband; three sons, Marvin Jr. and Joel, both of Blue Hill, and Raymond of Hastings; three daughters, Esther Harig of Hastings, Patricia Wald of Mandan, N.D., and Clara Marquardt of Blue Hill; three brothers, Floyd and Gary, both of Grand Island, and Franklin of Port Orchard, Wash.; and 13 grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by one sister.
Memorials have been established.
Duane Conyers

Heartwell resident Duane Conyers, 68, died Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at his home.
Services are 9 a.m. Friday at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Minden with the Rev. Donald Becker officiating. Burial will be in the Minden Cemetery. Visitation is 3-5 p.m. and 7-8 p.m. today at Layton Funeral Home in Minden.
Mr. Conyers was born April 21, 1931, to Walter and Esther (Baker) Conyers in Minden. He grew up in Kearney County and graduated from Minden High School in 1948. On Feb. 10, 1953, he married Mary Jane Gentert. They farmed near Heartwell. In 1983 his wife died.
He was a member of the Heartwell Lions Club.
Survivors are five daughters, Donna Preisendorf of Grand Island, Diane Bohl of Martell, Nancy Keup and Dottie Conyers, both of Kearney and Deb Overleese of Minden; one son, Dave of Kenesaw; his mother of Minden; one brother, Lyle of Granbury, Texas; one sister, Shirley Thaut of Minden; eight grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his father.
Joyce E. McClenahan

Kenesaw resident Joyce E. McClenahan, 90, died Tuesday, Oct. 12, 1999, at Kenesaw Haven Home.
Services are 10:30 a.m. Monday at the First Presbyterian Church in Hastings. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation is one hour prior to services Monday at the church. Brand-Wilson Funeral Home of Hastings is in charge of arrangements.
Miss McClenahan was born Jan. 15, 1909, to Henry and Cora A. (Oline) McClenahan in Madison. She moved to Hastings in 1922 where she was a bookkeeper for Lee Haggard Real Estate and Insurance.
She was a member of the First Presbyterian Church and its Fellowship Group.
Survivors are one sister, Alice L. Van Citters of Orange City, Iowa.
She was preceded in death by two brothers.
Memorials may be given to the church.
Dorothy J. Anderson

Hastings resident Dorothy J. (Jones) Anderson, 85, of 1235 Laird Ave., died Monday, Oct. 11, 1999, at Mary Lanning Memorial Hospital in Hastings.
Services and burial will be private. Butler-Volland Funeral Home of Hastings is in charge of arrangements.
Mrs. Anderson was born Sept. 28, 1914, to Charles Sanford and Caddie (Stewart) Jones in Salt Lake City. On Sept. 18, 1937, she married John Sheridan Anderson in Omaha. They lived in Gordon from 1938-47 and in Grand Island from 1947-75. After 18 years of retirement in Arizona, she and her husband moved to the Regency Retirement Center in Hastings. In 1997 her husband died.
She was active for many years in the Grand Island Community Theatre. She also helped start the Easter Seal Campaign for children in Nebraska in the 1950s.
Survivors are four sons, Sheridan T. and J. Paul, both of Grand Island, and James S. and Robert L., both of Hastings; and three grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers.

Alton A. Aufdenkamp

Kenesaw resident Alton A. Aufdenkamp, 68, died Tuesday, Oct. 5, 1999, at his home.
Services are 11 a.m. Saturday at Zion Wanda Lutheran Church in Juniata with the Rev. Harold King officiating. Burial will be in the Zion Church Cemetery in Juniata. Visitation is 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Thursday and Friday at Jackson-Wilson Funeral Home in Kenesaw and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church.
Mr. Aufdenkamp was born May 8, 1931, to Henry F. and Emma (Blessin) Aufdenkamp in Kenesaw. He attended Wanda Parochial School and graduated in 1949 from Kenesaw High School. On June 9, 1957, he married Joyce Schierner in Hastings. They lived in Hastings until 1982 when they moved to a farm near Kenesaw. He and his wife later divorced. He worked for Leon Plastic in Grand Island in 1957 until he retired in 1993. He also farmed part time until 1999.
He was a member of the Zion Wanda Lutheran Church.
Survivors are three daughters, Kathy Lomont of Salmon, Idaho, Carol Morgan and Linda Gregory, both of Hastings; one sister, Lorraine Schultz of Lincoln; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by one sister.
Memorials may be given to the Lutheran Hour or the Zion Wanda Lutheran Church.
Clara C. Klein

Hastings resident Clara C. (Hoxmeier) Klein, 90, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, at Good Samaritan Village Perkins Pavilion.
Rosary is 7:30 p.m. Tuesday at Brand-Wilson Funeral Home chapel and services are 10:30 a.m. Wednesday at St. Michael's Catholic Church in Hastings with the Rev. David Bourek officiating. Burial will be in Parkview Cemetery in Hastings. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today, 8 a.m. to 9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home and one hour prior to services Wednesday at the church.
Mrs. Klein was born Oct. 23, 1909, to Peter and Elizabeth Hoxmeier in Orleans. She attended school near Orleans. On April 6, 1961, she married Carl Klein. She managed the Old Mill Ice Cream Shop in Waterloo, Iowa, for 17 years and then a coffee shop there for five years. She and her husband farmed in the Roseland area. They retired in 1970 and moved to Hastings.
She was a member of St. Michael's Church and Altar Society.
Survivors are her husband; two stepdaughters, Mildred Billesbach of Belton, Mo., and Esther Kennedy of Yuba City, Calif.; one stepson, Donald Klein of Roseland; two brothers, Arnold of Los Angeles and George of Napa, Calif.; 16 stepgrandchildren; 27 stepgreat-grandchildren; and two stepgreat-great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by four brothers and three sisters.
Memorials may be given to the church.
Edna L. Hineline

Nelson resident Edna L. (Runge) Hineline, 88, died Saturday, Nov. 6, 1999, in Nelson.
Services are 10 a.m. Tuesday at the Church of Christ in Nelson with the Rev. Tom Reppart officiating. Burial will be in Spring Creek Cemetery in Ruskin. Visitation is until 9 p.m. today at Klawitter-Price Funeral Home in Nelson.
Mrs. Hineline was born April 5, 1911, to Fred and Mary (Jensen) Runge near Oak. She attended Kelly School near Oak and West Point High School. She graduated from Nelson High School in 1928. On Dec. 20, 1930, she married Wm. Paul Hineline. They farmed in the Ruskin and Oak area. In 1963 her husband died and she moved to Nelson. She worked at Nelson Good Samaritan Home for almost 20 years.
She was a past member of the Past Star Club in Oak and a member of the Sunshine Club in Nelson.
Survivors are three daughters, Marjorie Ward and Virginia Drohman, both of Nelson, and Mary Lou Hasselman of McPherson, Kan.; one brother, Harold of Nelson; one sister, Hilda Jensen of Belleville, Kan.; nine grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by two brothers and one grandchild.
