Tony Lee Harding
MULLEN - Tony Lee Harding died March 10, 2001, at North Platte. He was 49.
He was born March 7, 1952, in Alliance to Forrest L. and Jean S. Harding. He attended Mullen Public Schools and graduated in 1970 from Mullen High School. He then attended Mid-Plains Community College in North Platte where he studied auto mechanics.
Mr. Harding enjoyed rodeos, hunting, fishing and playing cards. He won the bull riding at the Sandhills Roundup in Mullen July 4, 1971. He worked on various ranches and for several construction companies during his lifetime.
On June 20, 1981, he married Melba McKenzie at Seneca.
Surviving him are his daughters, Misty Harding of Gothenburg and Michelle Harding of Alliance; his mother of Mullen; a sister, Rita (Arnold) Fischer of Juneau, Alaska; two brothers, Mick (Midge) and Jon (Mary Lou) of Mullen; nieces and nephews; and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father.
A memorial has been established.
Services will be at 1:30 p.m. MST Saturday at St. Joseph's Episcopal Church in Mullen with the Rev. William J. Graham officiating. Burial will be in the Cedarview Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. MST Friday at the Mullen Funeral Home.
Helen M. Hueftle
EUSTIS - Helen Hueftle, 94, of Eustis died March 13, 2001, at Hilltop Estates in Gothenburg.
She was born Sept. 26, 1906, near Eustis to Fred and Elizabeth Grabenstein Keller. She graduated from Eustis High School in 1924, and taught rural school for two years.
On Sept. 22, 1926, she married Arthur Hueftle. They lived on farms south of Cozad, which is now Johnson Lake, and also north of Eustis.
Mrs. Hueftle was a member of St. John's Lutheran Church, where she taught Sunday school for many years. She was an active member of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America and a member of the Idle A While Club.
Survivors include two daughters, Lois (Kenneth) Rieker of Gothenburg and Arlene (LaVern) Ostendorf of Wayne; two sons, Marvin (Patricia) of Omaha and Alan (Delores) of Eustis; a sister, Wilma (Ted) Rowe of Cozad; a brother, Clarence Keller of Eustis; 13 grandchildren; 26 great-grandchildren; six stepgreat-grandchildren; and a great-great-granddaughter.
She was preceded in death by her husband in 1968 and two sisters, Dorothy Coder and Alice Berke Day.
A memorial has been established.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at St. John's Lutheran Church in Eustis with the Rev. Steve Berke officiating. Burial will be in the East Cemetery at Eustis.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. Friday at the Berryman Funeral Home in Cozad.
Jack Russell Newville
Jack Russell Newville, father of Mary Laurie Siebert of North Platte, died March 14, 2001, in North Platte. He was 90.
He graduated in 1931 from the University of Southern California with a degree in civil engineering. He then took a job with the Los Angeles County Metropolitan Water District.
In 1932, he married Mary Kenney.
Mr. Newville became the city engineer of Manhattan Beach, Calif., in 1934, under contract with Engineering Service Corporation. He joined the Corps of Engineers in 1940 and served in World War II and earned the Bronze Star. He was discharged as a lieutenant colonel.
After the war, he rejoined Engineering Service Corporation and became owner. Under his leadership, ESCO became the largest civil engineering firm in Los Angeles.
Surviving him are his children, Kenney (Mary Ann) of Palos Verdes Estates, Calif., Mary Laurie (Paul) Siebert of North Platte, Jo Ann (Lucio) Gambini of Nice, France, and Edward (Betty) of Placitas, N.M.; 17 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his wife.
Services and inurnment will be in Arlington (Va.) National Cemetery.
Louise Mae Wilson
OGALLALA - Louise Mae Wilson, 79, of Ogallala died March 13, 2001, at her home.
She was born May 17, 1921, at Logan, Iowa, to Lester and Evelyn Dunn McKean. She grew up and attended schools in the Logan area. She quit school after the eighth grade to help her father with his dairy route during the depression years.
On Nov. 12, 1941, she married Raymond Nelson in Omaha. They had three children, Ardis, Karen and Ronald.
In 1948, she moved to Nebraska. She worked for Clarence Mathers until 1956.
On July 1, 1961, she married Ken Wilson. The couple made their home in Ogallala for most of their married lives. He preceded her in death on March 5, 2001.
Mrs. Wilson was employed at TRW and ASC for more than 25 years until her retirement. She had been a member of the Methodist Church.
Surviving her is a daughter, Ardis (Loren) Engler of Elsie; a son, Ronald (Karen) Rogers of Omaha; a stepson, Jarold (Kathleen) Wilson of Fort Lupton, Colo.; two granddaughters, Rene (Rich) Engel of Holdrege and Debra (Jeff) Moorhous of Culbertson; three great-grandchildren, Grant Engel of Holdrege and Tiffany (Anthony) Manley and Jennifer Perlinger, both of Culbertson; and a great-great-granddaughter, Kaylee Marie Manley of Culbertson.
She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Karen Loden, in 2000.
Memorials may be made to Hospice.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Friday at the Gubser Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Mark Carlton officiating. Burial will be in the Ogallala Cemetery.
Visitation will be from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to time of services Friday at Gubser Funeral Home in Ogallala.
Helen M. Hueftle

John Deakin Keeney
HASTINGS - John Deakin Keeney, 89, of Hastings, father of Tom Keeney of Halsey and grandfather of Bob Keeney and Sherry Kennedy, both of Callaway, died March 7, 2001, at Perkins Pavillion Nursing Home in Hastings.
He was born Dec. 24, 1911, to Henry G. and Anna Deakin Keeney at Cowles. He grew up near Cowles and graduated from Cowles High School in 1929.
On May 16, 1932, he married Mable Blincow of Oxford.
Mr. Keeney is survived by his wife; a daughter, Kay James of Ottawa, Ill.; two sons, Bill (Elle Mae) of Cowles and Tom (Pat) of Halsey; eight grandchildren, Chuck (Deb) Keeney of Kearney, Kathy Sanders of Papillion, Cindy (Jim) Johnson of Hastings, Dee Ann (Mike) Dupler of Salt Lake City, Tim (Judy) James of St. Louis, Mike (Terri) James of Ottawa and Bob (Marcia) Keeney and Sherry (Tom Jr.) Kennedy, all of Callaway; 17 great-grandchildren; and many other friends and relatives.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and three sisters, Gladys Beitler, Ida Heeren and Henrietta Thompson.
Memorials are suggested to the Webster County Museum.
Services were March 10, 2001, at the First Congregational United Church of Christ in Hastings. The Rev. Barry Rempp officiated.
Burial was in the Cowles Cemetery.
Willams Funeral Home of Red Cloud was in charge.
Jennifer Renea Lowe
PLANO, Texas - Jennifer Renea Lowe of Plano, Texas, formerly of North Platte, died March 9, 2001, following a car accident near South Padre Island, Texas. She was 19.
She was born Jan. 6, 1982, in North Platte to Michael and Gail Lowe. She graduated from Plano East High School in 2000, and had planned to attend Texas Christian University in the fall. She was known for her athletic ability and had set the record in the triple jump and sprint relays.
Miss Lowe is survived by her parents; a sister, Kelsey; her grandparents, Ruth Giesehagen of North Platte and Bonnie and Wayne Bayliss of Indianola; aunts and uncles, Stephen Lowe and Susan and Merle Stillwell, all of North Platte, Stephen and Cindy Bayliss of Columbus, Marvin Bayliss of Indianola, Debra and Stephen Thalken of Des Moines, Iowa, and Roy and Lucia Bayliss of Houston.
She was preceded in death by a sister, Sara Marie.
Services were March 13, 2001, at the Christ United Methodist Church in Plano.
Eastgate Funeral Home in Plano was in charge.
Eunice S. Muirhead
Eunice S. Muirhead, 75, of North Platte died March 15, 2001, at the Great Plains Regional Medical Center in North Platte.
She was born May 12, 1925, at Fort Madison, Iowa, to LeRoy and Lena Bonta Kent. She moved to Hershey with her family and graduated from Hershey High School in 1943.
On Oct. 15, 1945, she married Lloyd H. Muirhead at Bossier City, La. They moved to North Platte after their marriage. He preceded her in death March 9, 1984.
She was a member of the American Legion Auxiliary and enjoyed geneology.
Mrs. Muirhead is survived by two daughters, Janet (Charles) Mills of Greeley, Colo., and Carol (Wes) Meyer of North Platte; a son, John (Carol) of Houston; two brothers, Harry (Phyllis) Kent of Lebanon, Ohio, and John (Linda) Kent of Donnellson, Iowa; an aunt, Janet Penwell of Fort Madison; an uncle, Frank (Joan) Bonta of North Platte; seven grandchildren; eight great-grandchildren; and a special friend, Kenny McKean of Hershey.
She was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; a stepmother, Esther Kent; and her stepfather, Charles W. Hilton.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte with the Rev. Albert Neufeld officiating. Burial will be in Fort McPherson National Cemetery at Maxwell.
Visitation will be from 1 to 9 p.m. today and from 9 a.m. to service time Saturday at Carpenter Memorial Chapel in North Platte.
