John "Jack" Sulzinsky
(Died February 15, 2011)
John S. Sulzinsky, 66, "Jack" to all who knew him, passed away surrounded by his loving family at St. Peter's University Hospital on February 15, 2011, after a two-year battle with cancer.
Born in Jersey City on May 28, 1944, Jack lived in Milltown for the last forty years.
He was a 1962 graduate of St. Peter's High School in New Brunswick, where he met his wife, JoAnn.
He earned a Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering from the Newark College of Engineering and a Master's Degree in both Civil Engineering and Construction Management from the New Jersey Institute of Technology. Starting in construction with John W. Ryan Construction Co., Inc., Mr. Sulzinsky built a long and successful career as an engineer and business executive, including more than a decade with the Devcon Development Corporation, of which he was President.
He held a Professional Engineering License, a Land Surveyors License, OSHA Certification and certification as a Municipal Engineer.
Mr. Sulzinsky served the community of Milltown as a two-term councilman, Chairman of the Utility Department, Chairman of the Ways and Means Committee, member of the Zoning Board of Adjustment, and Chairman of the Planning Board.
In addition to being a proud member of the Knights of the Columbus, his years of community involvement included membership in the Jaycees, for which he also served as Director, the Milltown 4th of July Committee, and the Library Board of Trustees.
An avid supporter of local youth programs, Mr. Sulzinsky served as Pack Chairman for Milltown Cub Scout Pack 33, coach for Milltown's recreational baseball and soccer programs, and was an active member of the Father's Club at St. Joseph's High School in Metuchen and Bishop Ahr High School in Edison.
Mr. Sulzinsky and his family are longtime parishioners of Our Lady of Lourdes church in Milltown, where he served as a lector for more than thirty years.
Mr. Sulzinsky served seven years in the United States Army Reserve.
He enjoyed scuba diving, surf casting, golf, reading, and spending time with his family at Midway Beach.
Mr. Sulzinsky was predeceased by his parents, John D. Sulzinsky and Rita Sulzinsky, as well as his sister, Michele.
He is survived by his wife of 43 years, JoAnn, school nurse at Parkview Elementary School in Milltown, and three children; son Jack, his wife Karen, and their sons Benjamin and Sam; daughter Amy Forsell, her husband Rob, and their daughters Samantha and Alison; son Dan, his wife Julie, and their sons Jonah and Luke; his sister Patricia Main and her husband Robert; and mother-in-law Eileen Kennedy.
Visitation will be held on Friday, February 18th from 2-4 pm and 7-9pm at Bronson & Guthlein Funeral Home, 152 North Main Street, Milltown.
Funeral Mass will be Saturday, February 19th, at 9:30am at Our Lady of Lourdes Church, 233 North Main Street, Milltown.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Jack's memory to the Livestrong program at the Edison YMCA, 1775 Oak Tree Rd., Edison, NJ, 08820, 732-494-3232.

Marjory Jones, 81
Marjory Jones, 81, of Lakewood, died Tuesday, August 26, 1997 in the Ocean County Medical Center in Brick.
Born in Rahway, she had lived in Scotch Plains before moving to Lakewood .
Mrs. Jones was a member of the Rahway Hospital Ladies Auxiliary and served as President for four years.
Surviving are three sons, Robert L. Jones, Jr., United States Navy Captain Stephen Jones and Jonathan W. Jones; a brother, Townsend S. Howe, and four grandchildren.
Services were offered at 10 a.m. Friday, August 29, in the Vanderhoven Chapel of Hazelwood Cemetery in Clark. Arrangements were handled by the Pettit-Davis Funeral Home in Rahway.

Stanley Vingara, 65
Stanley Vingara, 65, of Stirling, died on Tuesday, September 2, 1997 at Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Newark, Mr. Vingara had resided in Stirling for 31 years.
He had been a mail supervisor at the Somerset County Courthouse in Somerville for seven years before retiring in 1992.
Before that, he had been a truck driver for Long Transportation in Carlstadt and also with Wakefern Foods in Elizabeth.
He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict and was a member of American Legion Post No. 484 in Stirling, serving as the Bar Chairman and the originator of the Friday night dinners.
Mr. Vingara was also Chairman of the high school scholarship fund for a Long Hill Township resident.
He was a volunteer at the annual fair at St. Vincent de Paul Roman Catholic Church in Stirling, and at functions for handicapped children sponsored by Teamsters Local No. 560.
Surviving are his wife, Connie Iandoli Vingara; a daughter, Valerie Abu-Alneel of Stirling; two sons, John J. Vingara of Bridgewater and James S. Vingara of Flemington; a sister, Gayle Bourget of Carteret; three brothers, Philip Vingara of Westfield, Richard Mitterando of Berkeley Heights and Kenneth Mitterando of Carteret, and a granddaughter.
A Funeral Mass was offered at 9:30 a.m. on Saturday, September 6, at St. Vincent de Paul Church. Arrangements were under the direction of the Valley Memorial Funeral home in Gillette.
Memorial contributions in Mr. Vingara’s name may be made to the Long Hill First Aid Squad, P.O. Box 145, Gillette, 07933.

Arthur H. Metzger, 74, Employed At Sears Roebuck for 37 Years
Arthur H. Metzger, 74, of Scotch Plains, died on Tuesday, September 2, 1997 at the Westfield Center, Genesis Eldercare Network, in Westfield.
Born in Newark, Mr. Metzger had lived in Elizabeth before moving to Scotch Plains in 1978.
He had worked at Sears Roebuck in Watchung for 37 years, retiring in 1984.
Mr. Metzger was a member of St. Bartholomew the Apostle Roman Catholic Church in Scotch Plains, the Golden Agers of Scotch Plains, the Fanwood Senior Citizens and the Scotch Plains YMCA.
Surviving are his brother, Joseph M. Metzger; a sister, Marie Haley; three nieces, three nephews and 13 grandnieces and grandnephews.
A Funeral Mass was offered on Friday, September 5, at St. Bartholomew The Apostle Church.
Arrangements were handled by the Rossi Funeral Home in Scotch Plains.

Mary G. Wojcik, 77
Mary Gallent Wojcik, 77, of South Plainfield died on Monday, September 1, 1997 at the Muhlenberg Regional Medical Center in Plainfield.
Born in Mocanaqua, Pennsylvania, she had lived in Newark before moving to South Plainfield 47 years ago.
Mrs. Wojcik was a member of Our Lady Czestochowa Roman Catholic Church in South Plainfield.
Surviving are her husband, Joseph E. Wojcik; two daughters, Yvonne Sacci of South Plainfield and Debra A. Wojcik of Westfield, and a granddaughter.
Funeral services were held on Thursday, September 4, at the James W. Conroy Funeral Home in South Plainfield, followed by a Mass at Our Lady of Czestochowa Church.
Memorial contributions may be made to Feed the Children, P.O. Box 36, Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, 73101-0036.

Mary Uknuis, 78
Mary I. Uknuis, 78, of Mountainside, died on Sunday, August 31, 1997 in Overlook Hospital in Summit.
Born in Harrison, she had lived in Hillside before moving to Mountainside 44 years ago.
Surviving are her husband, John P. Uknuis; a son, John P. Uknuis; two daughters, Mary Ann Befumo and Barbara Torres; four grandchildren, and four great-grandchildren.
Private funeral services were held under the direction of the Higgins and Bonner Echo Lake Funeral Home in Westfield.

Edith A. Mattke, 89
Edith A. Mattke, 89, of Clearwater, Florida, formerly of Fanwood, died on Thursday, August 7, 1997 at Bayview Nursing Pavilion in Clearwater.
Born in Astoria, New York, she had lived in Fanwood for 30 years and in Denver for six years before moving to Clearwater in 1991.
Mrs. Mattke had been a laboratory technician in New York City for 15 years.
She was a deacon at the Fanwood Presbyterian Church and a member of the Fanwood Women’s Club.
Her husband, Charles F. Mattke, died in 1974.
Surviving are her daughter, Edith L. Renton of Clearwater, and two grandchildren.
Arrangements were handled by the National Cremation Society in Clearwater.
