FREDERICK EFT GARTON
Frederick Eft Garton, 70, of McIntosh passed away Nov. 13, 2006 in Ixtapa, Guerrero, Mexico.
Frederick was born May 3, 1936, in Elmer, N.J., to Harold and Katherine (Tierney) Garton. He was a member of the AQHA and has been a resident of McIntosh since 1986.
Frederick is survived by his wife, Ann Garton of their home in McIntosh; sons, John and wife Kyra Garton of Edgewood, Robert and wife Amy Garton of Moriarty, Daniel and wife Rachael Garton of Moriarty, and Bryan and wife Young Garton of Lakenheath, England; sisters, Katherine Crotty and Mary Wharton; and five grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
A memorial service was held Monday at Harris-Hanlon Mortuary Chapel in Moriarty with David Wester officiating.

STEVE ELOY GUTIERREZ
Steve Eloy Gutierrez, 49, of Moriarty passed away Nov. 15, 2006 in Moriarty.
Steve was born July 29, 1957, in Las Vegas, N.M., to Eloy and Rita (Crespin) Gutierrez. He married Beverly Ann Martinez on June 27, 1975, in Albuquerque. Eloy was a resident of Moriarty for 21 years and was preceded in death by his parents.
Eloy is survived by his wife, Beverly Gutierrez of Moriarty; sons, Steven Eloy Gutierrez and Eric Patrick Gutierrez, both of Moriarty; brother, Gilbert Gutierrez; sisters, Consuelo Gutierrez and Laure Chavez.
A memorial service will follow at a later date.
Arrangements for cremation entrusted to Harris-Hanlon Mortuary, Moriarty.

ANNIE PERLE SUMNER
Annie "Budgie" Perle Sumner, 90, of Mountainair passed away Nov. 16, 2006 in Albuquerque with her loving family beside her.
Annie was born Feb. 29, 1916, in Pebble, Texas, to Cleveland and Willie (Taylor) Griffin. She was a member of the Mountainair Baptist Church and Order of the Eastern Star.
Annie is survived by her loving son, Michael and wife Vickie; granddaughter, Michelle; and countless nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her husband, B.F. Sumner; mother, Willie Ann (Taylor) Griffin; father, Cleveland Griffin; brothers, Clarence Griffin and B.E, Griffin; sister, Edna Robinson.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Mountainair with Paul Gerritson officiating. A graveside service was held Monday at Japonica Cemetery in Hunt, Texas.

WILLA L. COTTON
Willa L. "Willie" Cotton, 74, of Clovis died Nov. 15, 2006 at Plains Regional Medical Center in Clovis.
She was born Dec. 11, 1931, to Leo W. and Helen F. Baer Widdifield in Enid, Okla. She married William G. Cotton on Sept. 20, 1952, in Las Cruces. She was a teller at Sunwest Bank. She was a member of the Methodist Faith, United Methodist Women in Estancia, Eastern Star - Job's Daughter and the board of directors for the Food Bank of Eastern New Mexico. Her hobbies were sewing— she was an excellent seamstress, knitting over 150 sweaters— and her main hobby was her children.
She is survived by her husband, William G. Cotton of Clovis; a son, William Douglas (Leah) Cotton of Clovis; two daughters, Terri Lynn Cotton of Alto, N.M., and Pamela Jeanne (William "Buddy") Dunn of Moriarty; one sister, Myrna W. (Bill) Floyd of Horseshoe Bay, Texas; five grandchidren, Justin M. Cotton, Brandon G. Cotton, Kelsi J. Dunlap, Kayla Jo Dunn and Cassandra F. Cotton.
She was preceded in death by her parents.
A memorial service was held at The Chapel on Saturday with Cecil Bunch officiating. Burial follow at Mission Garden of Memories Cemetery in Clovis.
Memorial contributions are being accepted by Boys Ranch of New Mexico, c/o The Ranches, 6209 Hendrix NE, 2nd floor, Albuquerque, NM 87110-1334.

JENNIFER K. WARD-GIBBS
Jennifer K. Ward-Gibbs of La Madera passed away peacefully at home on Nov. 11, 2006.
She is survived by her husband, Richard Gibbs; children, Stevie Corey and husband John, Patrick Ward and wife Deb Detorie, Michael Ward and wife Trish Roger; six grandchildren, AnMarie Dvorak, John Corey, Liz Lopez, Peter Ward, Nathanial Ward, Amelia Ward; four great-grandchildren, Adam, Matthew and Amanda Corey and Azalea Ward.
A celebration of Jennifer's life was held at Jennifer's home on Saturday. Contributions may be made to the American Diabetes Association, P.O. Box 1132, Fairfax VA 22038.

RALPH RUSTIN "PETE" PORTER
Ralph Rustin "Pete" Porter, 77, of Corona passed away Nov. 29, 2006 in Albuquerque.
Pete was born July 9, 1929, to Charlie and Lucille Porter. He was raised in Corona and graduated high school in 1947. He served in the U.S. Army from 1950 to 1952 in Korea, where he was wounded in action. Pete returned to the U.S. in 1952 and married the love of his life, Helen Minor Porter, in 1953. They raised four children in Los Lunas. He was employed with the BNSF Railroad for 27 years and retired in 1984. Pete loved the outdoors and loved to hunt. He had 12 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren who were the light of his life.
Pete is survived by his wife of 53 years, Helen Porter of their home in Corona; sons, Bobby and wife Vicki Porter of Los Lunas, Dean and wife Diane Porter of Corona; daughters, Nancy Villella of Belen, Sherry and husband Walter Gensler of Hagerman, N.M.; 12 grandchildren, Tiffini Porter of Albuquerque, Rustin and wife Jennifer Porter of Los Lunas, Misty and husband Eric Taylor of Roswell, Michael Villella and friend Laura of Albuquerque, Miranda and husband Juan Santillan of Roswell, Monica Villella and fiance Jonathan Ake of Belen, Bonnie and husband Stephen Comer of Belen, Phillip Wayne Porter of Los Lunas, Walter Gensler III, Kristi Gensler, Kelly Gensler and Shelly Gensler, all of Hagerman; nine great-grandchildren; sisters, Vivan Buxton of Roswell and Charlene Scrimshire of Oklahoma; brothers, Johnny Porter of Tularosa, Luther Porter of Corona; and numerous nieces and nephews.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the First Baptist Church in Corona with Cal West officiating.

SAMMY WILSON SHAW
Sammy Wilson Shaw, 78, of Mountainair passed away Nov. 30, 2006 in Albuquerque.
Sammy was born Feb. 11, 1928, in Mountainair to Mike and Modena (Chisum) Shaw.
Sam attended Mountainair public schools and graduated in 1947. He served in the U.S. Army as a medic. One of Sam's loves was sports, where he excelled in baseball and basketball. During his sophomore year the Albuquerque Journal considered him the best high school basketball center in the state. After high school he played professional baseball in the minor league division. Sports remained important to him throughout his life and he was active coaching Little League baseball and helping scores of local youths develop their talents. Before his health failed Sam was active in the community as a Mountainair school board member and a member of the Mountainair volunteer fire department, where he served as chief for a period of time. He was a longtime member of the Mountainair Church of Christ.
Sammy is survived by his wife of 59 years, Joyce; sons, Keith and wife Diane Shaw of Sylvester, Ga., Kenneth and wife Venita Shaw of Mountainair; three grandsons and one granddaughter-in-law, Heath and Jamie Shaw of Dawsonville, Ga., Justin Shaw of Griffin, Ga., and Chad Shaw of San Antonio, Texas; one brother and three sisters-in-law, Jerry and Marion Shaw of Mountainair, Ruby Shaw of Mountainair, Helen Shaw of Fort Sumner; along with numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by both of his parents and two brothers, J.W. Shaw of Mountainair and Carroll Shaw of Fort Sumner.
Funeral services were held Saturday at the Assembly of God Campgrounds in Mountainair with Clifford Chisum and Nathan White officiating. Burial followed at the Mountainair Cemetery in Mountainair.
